Garcia puts Yankees on the verge of a sweep

Continuing this pitching staff’s three-day dominance against the Rangers, Freddy Garcia pitched the Yankees to a 3-2 win tonight, putting them one win away from a four-game sweep against the team that came into this series with the best record in the American League. The Yankees now have the best league’s record by two and a half games, and they’ve gotten there by holding Texas to a total of four runs in three nights. Tonight’s Rangers runs came on a pair of home runs by Josh Hamilton, otherwise Garcia was terrific, delivering another quietly effective win, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six. The Yankees did their scoring with a three-run third inning, with an RBI apiece from red-hot Nick Swisher and Eric Chavez.
