Minor injury (and non-injury) updates: Nova, Cano and Granderson

Real quickly, a few updates from the clubhouse, all of them positive for the Yankees…

Ivan Nova
After an awkward play to end the fourth inning, Nova seemed concerned that he might have hurt himself. He ultimately stayed in the game and had no such problems the rest of the time.

“He said it felt funny, but then it went away,” Joe Girardi said. “I’m assuming he’ll be OK for his next start. He went down in the tunnel, but he goes down in the tunnel every time. We were thinking about what we were going to do, and then next thing you know, Steve comes up and says he’s fine.”

Nova said the pain was in his groin, but he’s not concerned about this being an issue. He’s fine.

Robinson Cano
If the Yankees second baseman wasn’t healthy enough to be in the lineup, then why was he healthy enough to pinch hit in the eighth inning?

“As the day went on, he had a ton of treatment and just felt he could give us an at-bat,” Girardi said. “So I took advantage of it.”

Sounds like Cano is feeling significantly better.

Curtis Granderson
Girardi didn’t address the lineup pregame. He said there’s nothing wrong with Granderson, he just elected to keep him out of the lineup today. Granderson pinch hit in the ninth.

“I just gave him a day off, that’s all.”
