With these R\Sox Lefties, that probably means more of Jones in LF.

  2. RadioKev August 17th, 2012 at 12:44 pm

The Yankees should sweep this series, anything less is below expectations.

  3. Nick in SF August 17th, 2012 at 12:45 pm

I’m really looking forward to Kuroda vs. Beckett.

    Class vs. Crass.

  4. 98NYY August 17th, 2012 at 12:48 pm

If Tex is hurting it may be good to put him on 15 day and bring Laird up. We need more bench for lefties.

  5. Hassey August 17th, 2012 at 12:50 pm

I wonder who Beckett hits first

Having Ortiz out of the lineup should really help Hughes.

Laird had to leave the game against Pawtucket last night after Dan Bard drilled him in the collarbone.

If you’d listed those pitching match-ups before the start of the year you might have expected the Sox to sweep.

“Laird had to leave the game against Pawtucket last night after Dan Bard drilled him in the collarbone.”

We should have Joba plunk Pedroia as pay back!

    Probably means a lineup of:

    Jeter
    Granderson
    Swisher
    Cano
    Jones – DH
    McGehee – 1b
    Martin – C
    Nix – 3b
    Ichiro – LF

    Ha.

According to the guy who covers Scranton Bard had absolutely no clue where the ball was going. After he hit Laird he nearly decapitated Austin Romine.

  14. Chip August 17th, 2012 at 12:58 pm

going back to the last thread:

David Robertson and Brett Gardner for Anthony Rendon and Mike Morse?

  15. bruceb August 17th, 2012 at 1:03 pm

When did Tex get injured? Must have missed that one.

    He’s not injured, just hurting.

  17. Chip August 17th, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Keith Law brought this up on his chat yesterday – Michel Ynoa is Rule V eligible after this season. He’s only in SS ball right now so there’s a pretty good chance that the A’s won’t put him on their 40 man. If he is available, if he gets to the Yankees, I absolutely pick him, stash him in the pen all year and hope to control his rights going forward.

Of course, they’re already going to have to decide what to do with Cabral.

  18. UnKnown August 17th, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Tough to sweep any team. Win 2 out of 3 and keep the line moving.

I doubt the Rays/O’s are going to win all 3 games this weekend themselves. So we either gain on both of them by winning 2 out of 3 against the Sux, or at worst remain as many games ahead as we are now.

Meanwhile 3 games get knocked off the schedule. 2 out of 3 is plenty fine.

  19. bruceb August 17th, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Winning the series will be just fine. Sox aren’t going to lay down for us, that’s for sure, and their bats finally showed a bit of life in Baltimore last night. I’m a lot more concerned with Hughes tonight than I am with Phelps tomorrow. Least he has Lowe riding shotgun and, in any case, he seems to deal with adversity better than either Nova or Hughes.

  20. blake August 17th, 2012 at 1:20 pm

“David Robertson and Brett Gardner for Anthony Rendon and Mike Morse?”

Id do that….not sure the Nats would.

Id hit Jeter 3rd vs lefties if Tex is out.

  21. blake August 17th, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Chip, you and I both want Anthony Rendon …..with our fake GM powers combined…..nah…..

    ———————-

I think Rendon is a great fit for the Yankees. He fills so many needs and he’s completely superfluous for the Nationals. There has to be a fit there.

Though I’m sure there are a few teams that would like a RH 3b prospect.

  23. blake August 17th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

    Chip,

Yea but my guess is they plan to move Zimm to 1B if Rendon looks like the real deal…..the Yanks do have some stuff that Washington needs though…..Id call them amd see anyway.

  26. kd August 17th, 2012 at 1:40 pm

we are so lucky to have had derek jeter. he could be hitting .200 and i’d still want him to be the starting ss. he’s kept the yankees winning with leadership and hard work. just look at boston, a leaderless team and a bunch of selfish players.

  27. blake August 17th, 2012 at 1:41 pm

you can’t have too many position players…..I doubt they see Rendon as expendable just as the Rangers don’t see Profar as expendable just because they have Andrus….that said there does seem to be a match of needs between the Yanks and Nats and they should at least call them,

  28. blake August 17th, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Having a guy that can lock down SS for nearly 2 decades is so valuable you really can’t even measure it.

Not expendable in that you just give him away – but expendable in that by dealing from a position of strength and depth you can address an area of need.

    Class vs. Crass

  34. Chip August 17th, 2012 at 2:08 pm

So, I know we’re all biased, but in that Pete Abe article he sums up by saying how you can’t fire 25 players but when push came to shove the Red Sox did dump Nomar and Manny because their attitudes were making them “obstacles to success” and that it’s time to do that again.

Who do you dump if you’re Boston – they moved Youk, Ortiz is a FA so he can be allowed to walk…who else?

Beckett makes the most sense, but who is trading for him?

Here are trades I would make (other parts would be involved in some of these – but I’m only listing the principles):

Ellsbury – who is a man without a country in that clubhouse to the Mets for Duda and Pelfrey

Jon Lester to Colorado for Dexter Fowler and Drew Pomeranz

Beckett to whomever will take him and the $32M left on his contract.

Sign Torii Hunter – veteran, winning player – very much what that clubhouse needs right now

  35. ctyankeefan. August 17th, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Here’s another pretty funny comment from Pete Abe, since were talking about him:
    • Attention Red Sox: An easy way to improve your public image would be to ask Josh Beckett to take down the novelty bottle opener that says “First Class White Trash” hanging from his locker. It shows up in every TV interview he does.

Of course, somebody in the organization would have to come up with the moxie to ask Josh to do something first.

Well given how infrequently Beckett makes himself available to the press it probably doesn’t show up all that much.

So Austin Jackson – breakthrough year or career year?

  38. blake August 17th, 2012 at 2:18 pm

    Chip,

I posted that article from Pete yesterday and I think he’s dead on in it….the first order of business should be to make Beckett disappear….then go from there.

    Breakout IMO.

    Lotsa luck makin’ Beckett disappear.

    ——————–

I agree – but I don’t see how you can. He’s poison in the clubhouse with a lot of money owed him. Who wants that on their team?

I think, in the end, they’re going to have to just grind it out with him and keep his toxic attitude away from Bucholtz.

Dealing Ellsbury makes sense since from all indications he can’t wait for free agency so he can get the hell out of there and Lester can bring back some quality young players.

You have to let Ortiz walk – he’s just a big pain in the butt with his constant chirping about how disrespected he is in Boston.

And then you bring in a veteran who is a good guy with a strong positive attitude and a winning mentality – a guy like Hunter.

He’s still hitting a redonculous near .400 on balls in play. Gotta wait and see.

  43. Brian August 17th, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Other than for $$, which he might get somewhere else based on the nice year he’s having, why would Hunter want to go to Boston? Between the clubhouse problems, the team’s performance over the past year (dating back to last season’s collapse) and the stuff Crawford and others have reported experiencing there, he might well have a much better choice.

  44. Don Vito A. Bellamo August 17th, 2012 at 2:37 pm

The final nails in the BoSux season will come EACH day for the next 3 days. These Bums will be outclassed in each game and it’ll be fun to watch ! :-)

    —————

Well Doc I only made two there and not sure where your problem is with either of them.

Mets get a talented but oft injured CF a year away from free agency for a good hitter/bad fielder and solid pitcher coming off injury – not sure that either team could really ask for better than that.

Colorado gets a very good, young, cost controlled, LHSP something they desperately need and have been unable to develop for a supremely talented OF and pitching prospect…also sounds fairly reasonable.

joe buck is the ultimate yankee hater and cowboy lover…therefore, he is the ultimate loser

  55. kd August 17th, 2012 at 3:07 pm

the red sox real issue is that they may still believe that their farm system is the best in the league. cb used to talk about this a lot. that igelseas kid can’t hit .220 in aaa, he’s not going to hit as a mler. they don’t have upper level pitching. they’re stuck.

for as much as people complain about yankee development, nova, phelps, robertson have been great additions.

anyone know if cb has been around at all this year? haven’t heard from him since the pineda trade

    5:1 The Snitch

  59. Doc Iac August 17th, 2012 at 3:18 pm

he seems to be happy everytime we are losing, of course im sure other teams fans say the same thing so u could be right,

and as much as i hate him and tim mccaver, they remind me of playoff baseball so i dont mind the games on fox that much,

  60. RadioKev August 17th, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Joe Buck is just a very negative baseball announcer. He’s always cheering for the other team.

  61. Against All Odds August 17th, 2012 at 3:25 pm

That is something that doesn’t get brought up enough a lot of the guys they banked on to be the next wave of red sox mainstays didn’t pan out from Bard to Bowden to Laptop to Hunter Jones, etc. They traded away Masterson

I don’t get all this “final nails in the coffin” stuff concerning the Sox that ESPN and everybody keeps hyping up for this weekend…. is 12.5 games back on August 17th not enough nails or something?

  64. pat August 17th, 2012 at 3:36 pm

    Jeter DH, Swisher 3, Cano 4, Jones 9, McGehee 5, Granderson 8, Martin 2, Nix 6, Suzuki 7
