TIME/TV: 8:10 p.m., MY9 and MLB Network

WEATHER: It just feels really nice out. Nothing too crazy, just a slight breeze and a clear sky. It’s a nice night here in Chicago.

UMPIRES: HP Jeff Nelson, 1B Mike Muchlinski, 2B Bill Welke, 3B Tim Tschida

GOING RIGHT AGAINST LEFTIES: The Yankees are 26-17 (.6047) against left-handed starters this season, the second-best such winning percentage in the American League fractionally behind Boston (.6053, 23-15), and the fifth-best in the Majors.

LETTING IT GET AWAY (TWICE): The Yankees lost two leads in Monday’s loss, the first time that has happened in a game since the first week of July when they did so in back-to-back losses at Tampa Bay on July 2 and July 3 and again in their July 6 win at Boston.

CC PITCHES IN: For the fourth consecutive year, Amber and CC Sabathia and their PitCCh In Foundation have helped kids start the new school year. Today, Margie Sabathia-Lanier, CC’s mother, is delivering nearly 3,000 backpacks filled with items such as a three-ring binder, pencils, a ruler, crayons, washable jumbo markers, a spiral notebook and pocket folders to all first and second graders in the Vallejo City Unified School District.?Sabathia’s foundation will also provide back-to-school backpacks to youngsters in the Bronx in early September.

UPDATE, 8:35 p.m.: Nova gets through his half of the first inning with a runner stranded at third. Liriano didn’t do the same in the top of the inning, letting the Yankees get two runs on two hits and two walks. It’s a 2-0 Yankees lead after one. One of those hits, by the way, was Jeter’s 12th homer of the year.

UPDATE, 9:21 p.m.: Well, now it’s tied. Nova allowed one run in the second inning, and now Konerko has tied it with a solo homer in the fourth.

UPDATE, 9:43 p.m.: Youkilis grand slam has the White Sox ahead 6-2 here in the fifth. Has much the same feeling as last night’s fifth inning, just a punch to the gut for the Yankees.

UPDATE, 10:10 p.m.: Martin’s home run has cut the lead to 6-3, but the Yankees are still in a significant hole heading into the bottom of the seventh. Derek Lowe coming in to pitch.
