The Yankees had plenty of chances to score and an opportunity to increase their lead in the division, but they failed to take advantage in a 3-1 loss to the Indians. Cleveland snapped a nine-game losing streak by holding the Yankees to 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, leading to eight runners stranded in a span of three innings. Mark Teixeira’s sixth-inning sacrifice fly drove in the Yankees only run, while the Indians won because of a first-inning, three-run homer by Michael Brantley. Hiroki Kuroda took the loss despite pitching a complete game, allowing just four hits.
