Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger reported last night that Joe Girardi called a brief team meeting after Friday’s 6-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. When asked after that game if he had considered addressing the team, Girardi said, “If I did, do you think I would tell you?” I guess we know the answer now.
According to Carig, the meeting only last a few minutes, with Girardi taking on a “reassuring tone.” The Yankees responded on Saturday with a 4-3 comeback win, extending their lead over the O’s in the division back to three games. For the most part, Girardi isn’t thought of as the type of manager who gives many pep talks. A veteran group like this doesn’t need many of them. But this goes to show you that it’s not unheard of.
