Cano’s bothered by mild hip injury
When he reached toward that game-winning single in the eighth inning, Robinson Cano felt his left hip grab. He iced it after the game and will get additional medical treatment this evening. Both Joe Girardi and Cano seem to think it’s probably a minor injury, but Cano acknowledged that he’s a little bit worried about whether he’ll be able to play tomorrow.
“Well, yeah,” he said. “It’s just tight a little bit, and it (is an injury) to one part of your body you most use for the game. Let’s see what the trainer is going to say and see how it feels tomorrow.”
Cano said he believes he would have kept that ball in the infield, but as he reached down to field it, his left foot came up awkwardly and he felt his left hip grab. He stayed in the game and was planning to remain in if the game went beyond the ninth. Cano said he never felt anything pop, and described the injury only as tightness.
“Right when I tried to bend, my left foot just came straight up and I felt my hip,” he said. “It will be hopefully just nothing bad.”

The wheels are coming off…
poor judgment on the bases, at the plate and in the field all day and it is trending…
The best part was Granderson. The 2nd and 3rd pitches were eminently hittable and what did the ole Grandyman do? He swung at the final pitch low, in the dirt, and outside. Well, done Oh Grandyman. I salute thee on your lack of brains and effort.
Put your life vest on and head for the life boats!
Call up Adams or CoJo
And people need to realize, blaming the front office is shortsighted because todays problems were 2009?s world series. We robbed peter to pay paul, fortunately we won a title , many teams don’t
–
Not really. Granderson was not on that team. Nor Martin. Nor Jones. Nor Ibanez. What are the long lasting impacts of securing that world series that are hampering the team? The only players are really CC & Tex. CC is still an effective pitcher and Tex is still an above average batter, simply overpaid.
Its 2012. A sports team can’t look back 3 years and go ‘oops!’, they had 3 seasons to improve and bring in players!
Cindy Brunson ?@ESPNCindyB
#Mariners adding to #RedSox 6 straight loss pain. M’s up 4-1 top 5 w/ Boston ownership at Safeco on *fact finding* mission.
Wait till next year – except next year they’ll be lucky to be at .500.
Maybe if he dove or tried to stop the ball instead of looking like a old man bending for ball he would not be hurt. He never dives or hustles. This team is a joke. Can’t hit can’t field. Can’t bunt or move runners over anytime in a game. And now they don’t hit HR. and I blame cashman. And I’m tired of all the excuses. No arod. No tex. no Gardner. Come on get real. I love arod but he is hitting .275 with 15 HR. tex is barely hitting .260. Your starting C is hitting .190. Ibanez is hitting .225 our starting CF is hitting .230. Jones is here to hit LH and he can barely hit .150 against them. I can go on and on. And where is our great minor league system helping us? Rays call up guys and they contribute. Orioles call up guys and they contribute. Where’s our youth?
Please call up David Adams!!!
The prospects CANNOT be worse than what we are watching now…
Granderson has played himself right out of an extension (if not, Cash should be fired on the spot). Even Cano’s should be in question right now.
They are beginning to resemble the 2011 Red Sox. Bad offense, weak starting pitching, bad bullpen, injuries, etc.
Does anyone here have any experience with the afterlife? Id like to off myself, but still have knowledge of what goes on in sports. Id really like to test the theory that my existence is what causes most of my teams’ organizations to be so poorly managed in spite of the vast resources available to them.
Kevin long has something to blame about how bad hitting gone all or nothing aproach without the steroids arod its not going work small.ball gives the yankees hell
I’m sorry, is the hip located in the left side of the chest or between one’s ears.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what the Yanks do with Granderson this offseason. I really think they need to trade him and get some value for him but that just doesn’t seem very Yankee like these days.
Kevin Long gets praised…. for his team’s failure.
Tiz71 has hit it ont he head.

They will try to resign him to a reasonable contract and if he doesn’t take it they will let him walk
Where’s our youth?
————————
Ask the GM
Mild hip injury? Even his injuries are lazy!
(Just kidding! Not sinister racist confirmation bias!)
whoa. michael clark duncan died?
Looking at the Dodgers this season. If we can make Cano our Adrian Gonzales, we may be on to something. I love Granderson but the strikeouts this year are just much to much.
Against-
To be brutally honest, I don’t want Granderson even at a reasonable contract at this point. This team doesn’t need another .230 hitter who only hits homeruns. I really do like Granderson but he’s evolved into a guy I don’t want. If he goes back to being that .270 guy with speed and power then sign me up. This current version is too redundant on this team.
You see what the Rays have done without a strong offense, as niblick pointed out before? You see it? The Yankees could do the same thing if they had strong SP.
==========================================
Which again is why they went after Pineda.
Ther not going bring up any 3rd basemans or 2nd basemans adams will be sent packin like pena an laird an giving up on nunez u have a steroidless adud for 5 more years an lazy ass cano back to being what he originally was

“So how about we all show up for tomorrow’s gamethread and do nothing but act positive? Maybe our good vibes will outweight the bad vibes that like to show up here!”
actually if you’d STFU up about all the “negative people” and just focus on the baseball, the blog would be a lot more enjoyable.
——–
She’s just trying to lay the ground work for her guy Freddy’s start tomorrow night. Don’t worry when Phelps pitches again she will be the most negative person in the thread again.
Her comments about Phelps on Saturday where beyond distasteful. Whatever, her act is fooling anyone.
Tyler has got it right.
I really do like Granderson but he’s evolved into a guy I don’t want. If he goes back to being that .270 guy with speed and power then sign me up. This current version is too redundant on this team.
=================
What happened to this guy?
Rebuilt his approach with Long and now all is forgotten?
What is wrong with today’s players? So many are so fragile from year to year?

I understand where you’re coming from. When players perform badly it makes everyone stop and think about bringing them back. Last week it was bring Swish back now it’s let Swish go.
The other mistake the front office made was thinking an injury prone Gardner was the young hope of the outfield instead of trying to retain AJax or sign a younger OF. Let’s hope they do not make the same mistakes with Mason Williams.
randy l. September 3rd, 2012 at 5:42 pm
i do not expect a yankee team with derek jeter on it to go into free fall.
i think it’ll take time for this team to battle out of this funk , but i think he’ll lead them into the playoffs by keeping everyone on an even keel.
leadership isn’t always base hits. sometimes it’s just playing the game the right way and not pressing. jeter is as good as anyone at this.
bottom line, i expect to see jeter leading off in a playoff series this fall.

If you saw the post game show you will know why Randy says what he does.
Jeter laughed at a reporter who used the word “panic.”
His retort he asked the reporter if he/she has panicked…once again Respect Jeter’s Gangster.
Jeter doesn’t panic…
It’s time to drop Swish in the lineup and bat Arod 2nd.
Let Cano protect him til he starts driving the ball again.
The yankees would have starting pitching screwing with chamberland and hughes they were pitching good then sat them down as rookies they never been the same hughes the next dead arm chamberland tommy john surgrery an now the whole farm system is injured top pitures
Why am I afraid this minor injury will blossom into something major? Tex was only supposed to be out a week. Here it is, 7 days later, and he might be back for the BAL series? Might as well have just placed him on DL-15.
Cano, we all know he didn’t hurt in busting out of the box, where is Charlie Manual when you need him, good old boy Girardi wasn’t even asked why Cano doesn’t bust it to first with the no balls reporters in the post game–typical bs
Girardi covered for Cano by saying he thought the ball was caught.
That’s a lie and everyone knows it including Girardi.
For an honest guy , it must be killing him to keep covering for these guys.
I thought Meredith asked him about Cano.
I don’t think they ever expected Tex to be out for only a week, but the gamble is/was that it might be less than the 15 days a DL stint would require. We’ll see.
Against-
I’m usually not that reactionary…. this has been the whole season from Granderson and really the better part of his 3 seasons. Last season was very good but I have a lot of questions whether he can be that guy. Look, a 40 homerun center fielder who can field still has a ton of value regardless of batting average. But I just don’t think the Yanks are a team who need that guy.
ac1 – man, that is tough. He was too young! Loved him in the Green Mile and other films he did. RIP Michael Clark Duncan.
(Just kidding! Not sinister racist confirmation bias!)
=====================
be careful, you might be accused of being passive-aggressive.
Girardi is a company man, not really an honest man, he is not necessarily covering for these guys, he is just covering his own ass to keep his job
I think it was a woman who asked the “panic” question.
And I also think someone followed up with another “panic” question.
Love when he asked if they had panicked…he’s the best, had to laugh.
Girardi’s job is secure.
mick September 3rd, 2012 at 6:05 pm
Girardi’s job is secure.
You are probably right but nice to dream about Donnie baseball someday taking over!
See if the cash can pull off a blockbuster and see if anyone would take Cano AND Grandy. LAD? Probably can’t pry Kershaw from them, but worth a shot. Re-sign Swish, Nunez at 2B, Gardy CF, and perhaps J Hamil for LF?

mick and i agree about as often as haley’s comet comes around.
jeter will get the yankees to the playoffs.
how they get there may be on the ugly side, but they should get there.
and then anything could happen.
I thought Meredith asked him about Cano.
====================
Oh I thought you were referring to the “panic” question.
Hey, where is k long and his midas touch?
Amazing, we played another game and YET ANOTHER starter got injured ! Anything the Yankees do when/if they get to the playoffs will be well earned. They have a moron for a manager and the injuries to key starters are starting to take their toll. Over the next 15 games, they will really show what they can do with these limited resources. A tough 3 games against the A’s (likley, right?), then the last 10 games of the season against teams that have completely packed it in, will be helpful. Ready for a couple of Ws back to back and that will push us (hopefully) back on track.
On the not running out of the box, he thought it was going to be caught.
On the ground ball, he thought he was going to make the play. A play BTW which he makes all the time.I. Know I thought he was going to make it.
So It has nothing to do with lazy. Stupid for not running first and looking where the ball is second, ok.
Bad judgement for not realizing that it’s more important to keep the ball in the infield than making the out-ok… but not lazy.
Bret
The SJ comment was hilarious.
I wouldn’t trade Cano. A .900 OPS 2nd baseman is irreplaceable. It’s not as straightforward as trading a 1B.
I am thinking along with avirex34. We could also get a thrid team involved in something like that. Cano would look great in a Dodger unifrom, grinning, relaxing, loafing, more grinning……
If I were Nix or Dickerson I would come in wearing a “We Don’t Panic” tee shirt tomorrow.
I don’t think Balt or TB believes we are out of this thing and it’s only a matter of time before we are back at full strength and run off 10 straight again.
Tyler, why agree with your observation, “the lazy one” is not getting any smaller. He may be a thrid baseman in the near future.
This team needs a good laugh and I think we will come alive in Balt this weekend with Tex and Arod in the lineup…

Tyler, why agree with your observation, “the lazy one” is not getting any smaller. He may be a thrid baseman in the near future.
——————————————————–
This isn’t even true but even if he was a 3rd baseman he’s a plus bat and plus fielder.
Lazy can make one look stupid.
No real reason to believe tex will be back in baltimore.
Mykyl1 take it easy tiger !
CC kept us in the game for the most part.. Cant help it if his teams offense is so inept. You cant blame him.
Also, How the heck can you rip Jeter? He is awesome a truest of true Yankee. Does he get frustrating to watch with his GIDP and lack of plate patience sometimes, sure but he is hitting over .300 and on top for most hits on the league! I can understand ripping on Martin and a few others but you are taking it way to far. Its a little scary actually, you dont sound like a fan! You sound like a violent extremist looking for a target. Chillax buddy.
Randy – jeter cannot will this team to the playoffs. When has an athlete ever said “we’re panicked”. It never happens. Behind closed doors, he and everyone else knows they are in trouble.
Or maybe even a josh willingham who’s having a quiet, but really good season out in Minny. Someone that doesn’t give away AB’s. Did u see Cano’s AB vs Balt yesterday? Argued with the ump on a first pitch strike, then flailed like a pouting kid on a high outside fastball…, boy I miss knoblauch, Pat Kelly
Jeter should give up his titlle unless he gets in these lazy ass players face its on him if he wants to be called captain be like justin tuck
Ive never seen a yankee game when Jeter wasnt on the team
i hope he plays for another 5 years ! I’ll always support DJ no matter what! Hes earned that silly head!
28 games left.
If we play .500 ball the rest of the way that’s 90 wins and a .555 win %.
With the current setup that would put us in the 1 game sudden death playoff.
Play a little better and you get the 1st WC.
Play better still you keep the division.
Jeter is captain of the team and he deserves to be. Hes not a captain to be a disciplinarian .. What the hell you think this is kindergarten ?? Its the managers job to do what you suggest, not a teamates, capt or no capt!
Agreed Andy, Cano is like Reyes’ long lost brother
Jeter should give up his titlle unless he these lazy ass players face its on him if hewants to be called captain be like thurman munson make the players accountable jeter needs to give tough love because giradi to afraid to step on toes
Now the trolling here is getting ridiculous. Sure, get on the guy hitting .320 with the most clutch hits on the team who has delivered five World Series titles. Serious criticisms make for good discussions. Posts like those of Mykyl are simply hateful.
This season hasn’t even begun yet and people are panicking.
Wait til Balt. has a week or 2 to go and let’s see what they do.
TB is tested, I fear them more…
If Jeter got on Cano’s case, he would go into a deeper shell than he appears to be in now.
Can’t take criticism, another great attribute
MTU – the problem is that they’ve been well under .500 for 47 days.
19-24 to be exact. And now they’re playing real teams – like the O’s and the Rays.
Maybe they should name Alex the GM and straighten this out.
I thought I read that somewhere….must be mistaken.

I was referring to someone that said the reporters were too gutless to ask Joe g about Cano not running.

My question would be: Why wasn’t he hustling out of the box like he always doesn’t?

Straw, I just drive past most trolling here, otherwise all you do is get embroiled with low vibration types and spend your energies on them rather than what you came for, some Yankee talk. But I couldn’t agree more. Hateful is the word. Picking on a guy’s weight over and over again is something that we all don’t need to have to listen to. I’m tired of emailing Chad, though, since I don’t really spend much time in GTs any more. You need to quote the posts and put them in the email. He has shut down two commenters here after being emailed. They came back – one after a month (his ban time, I guess) and the other under one of his multiple handles.
You guys can have Pedroia, whose talent I respect. I’ll take Cano eight days a week over him and anyone else at 2B in the game.

Me neither. Kind of unthinkable, I would say.
I wouldn’t trade he either…he does need to get on track though. Something has to be up.
Nobody getting on jeter but he needs grow some an get in those players faces that aren’t hustleing cano jeter is the captain I hope he isn’t waiting giradi to do that
Alright fine, I don’t care what his OPS, stats are. That type of personality is not a winning formula. Would the dynasty teams put up with Cano’s BS?
Thank god we still have those untouchable killer b’s. Bumbling, Botched, and Booted
U can’t trade the lone impact bat u have that is still relatively young. Cano has to be part of the solution.
Carlo September 3rd, 2012 at 6:44 pm
U can’t trade the lone impact bat u have that is still relatively young. Cano has to be part of the solution.

Exactly you build around him not trade him off. You would basically have no player at or under 30 going forward that is a force on the team.
O’s and Rays must be salivating right now.
Carlo September 3rd, 2012 at 6:42 pm
Thank god we still have those untouchable killer b’s. Bumbling, Botched, and Booted
————————-
I’m guessing you mean Dellin, Manny, and Brackman in that order.
If I was Brian Cashman, I would have three names on my immovable list.
Jeter, Rivera, Cano. Everyone else is 100% in play.
Cano an granderson are free agents u can’t trade them I would keep cano still young but try to get austin jackson an montero back an nobody talking martin wants a big contract
Against – haha, yes, that’s the right order.
Do they think we are not going to snap out of this when our guys return?
They will have to beat us out, we are not giving this away.
And then we will be hot for the Post.
Carlo September 3rd, 2012 at 6:50 pm
Against – haha, yes, that’s the right order.
———————
What’s the next question on guess which farm hand this is? Might as well have some fun with a tough loss today.
Right, we can def move A-Rod, Tex with the small contracts
I think we can all agree this team can’t handle pressure they are 0 an 48 loseing after 8 that’s unheard of what is their average in risp 236
Get one game in this series at least. Continue to play keep away with the division lead as long as possible. If NYY can win one of the next two and win Thurs. they will hold a 3 game lead over the Rays.
That will conclude a 16 game stretch where the Yankees only won 6 games but only lost 2 games off the division lead against the Rays.
That would hopefully be weathering the storm and the team can finish strong from Friday to the end of the season.
Again the Yankees last 13 out of 16 games are against bottom feeders. They might just have to win 10 of those last 13 games depending on how bad these next two weeks are.
In that case the playoffs will just be starting 2 weeks early for the Yankees this year. No coasting into October this year it seems.
Sure, because Detroit and Seattle are just going to return AJax and Montero, respectively. All we have to do is ask nicely.
The million dollar question what can joe do motivate multi millionairs that make more than him an he is afraid step on toes this job has gotten to big giradi maybe we could trade joe for mattingly or paul oneil
Wow are fans talking crazy with trades. I’m just not happy with the whole attitude of this team. No sense of urgency. Like I said earlier on here this is not a well built team and I blame cashman. And as far as the minors. You trade your best player since cano and after 2 years of Montero talk that’s the trade you make? I like Pineda but if pitching was what cashman said was our strength then why make that kind of trade? And where is the youth helping now? Dickerson? He is 30. Nunez? Really? And the best minor leaguer right now is Montgomery and he is a closer in AA. This franchise has turned into a mess. And it will get better over then next 2 years as we become the royals and not spend money. And when they do it’s one year contracts for crap like ibanez and castoffs like the ghost of ichiro and Lowe. Man am I pissed at this franchise right now.
How about we give back the lemons they sent us the drunk pinneda an campus out for the year an we give them garcia back an ichiro we sound more like seattle team they nailed us big time they ar laughing in seattle
We need paul oneil as coach see if these low esteem lazy asses get motivated he would put a fire under their ass
I think we need some guys that have fire to win. Most of these guys have won. We need some guys that can hit higher than .250. It’s not all about the HR. and about over managing the bullpen. Girardi is at fault a little here too. And how about our captain stepping up and having a players only meeting? I can go on and on here. I can talk on here all night. And it would be nice for the bloggers like in paper and on twitter to start calling out team instead of fans like us saying we don’t know anything about baseball and the yanks.
Tiz the truth.
