Big night upcoming for our 4/5/6 hitters lol.

Might as well just have Dickerson LF instead of Jones to improve the defense.

    Whoops, meant 5/6/7

  3. MoRings42 September 5th, 2012 at 4:46 pm

All Kuroda has to do is pitch a shutout and we’ll be fine.

  4. tiz71 September 5th, 2012 at 4:47 pm

just goes to show you they are clueless and girardi can throw his binder in the trash. this is a joke. jones has proved for 2 months he is done in field and at plate hitting like .120 against LH. might as well play dickerson in OF. must game and thats the lineup he puts out there. what a joke

  5. slayr36 September 5th, 2012 at 4:47 pm

Ehh… You know Girardi has to put in Jones against lefties even though he’s batting absolutely terrible since the all-star break… How bout ol russ batting 5… Wtff

  6. Madrugador September 5th, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Continuing to play Jones and just hoping he is going to hit is not going to get it done.

Hope is always a bad plan.

  7. fantasygame101 September 5th, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Our pitcher (andruw jones) is batting 7th. In the NL, the pitcher bats 9th.

  8. ButtSmacker September 5th, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Andruw’s post ASB slash: .134/.217/.244/.461…. Absolutely abysmal.

He can’t hit, he can’t run, and he can’t field.

I knew he Joe would put him in there tonight but just seeing it still pisses me off.

Including tonight the Yanks will likely face lefty starters in 6 of the next 8 games… Is Joe really planning on playing him in all 6 of those games?

  9. mick September 5th, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Martin 5th like Swisher 3rd last night is a loser move.
What is wrong with Pearce, where is McGeHee, have they given up on them already?
Ichiro is now a platoon player?

  10. LGY September 5th, 2012 at 4:54 pm

Russell Martin vs LHP post ASB

    .133/.278/.333

  11. Tackelberry September 5th, 2012 at 4:54 pm

Would much rather see Nunez in there than Jones. At least Nunez can hit

  12. mick September 5th, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Nunez has evidently been banned from playing the field.

  13. UnKnown September 5th, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I figured when I saw that the live hitters Andy P. was facing included McGehee, Nunez, and Dickerson that meant they wouldn’t be in the starting lineup.

Looking for 3 runs from the 9 above. Get Kuroda 3 runs and we avoid an absolutely crushing sweep.

  14. Madrugador September 5th, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Nunez may not be a tremendously competent fielder but his speed and offense adds enough to make up for it.

  15. bruceb September 5th, 2012 at 5:01 pm

Hope is always a bad plan.

Hope is all we Yankee fans have at the moment and looking at this awful lineup, even hope is disappearing fast.

  16. LGY September 5th, 2012 at 5:01 pm

    Nix LF
    Nunez 2B
    Cervelli C

  17. mick September 5th, 2012 at 5:01 pm

So everything hinges on Tex’ return in Balt?
Assuming Cano gets back to 2B and Ichiro is now a platoon player, we should be seeing a lot of Jones in LF?
Pearce, if he can impress Girardi tonight at 1B for Balts 3 leftys?
Why not the OF instead of Jones for Pearce?
Is it that much disarray or am I overreacting?

  18. Benny Blanco September 5th, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Martin Batting 5th? What is the world coming to.

  19. Wave Your Hat September 5th, 2012 at 5:02 pm

    “Nix LF
    Nunez 2B
    Cervelli C”

Tampa would run Cervelli ragged. There just aren’t any good options. It just sucks.

  20. JM September 5th, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Ichiro batting .176 in the past week….Abysmal, but he has had plenty of company

  21. Yank1 September 5th, 2012 at 5:05 pm

We’re facing a lefty, Jones is on the team to hit lefties and he hits them well.

  22. mick September 5th, 2012 at 5:06 pm

You want to say it’s the injuries and what team would have done better if they faced this adversity ?
Montero alone wouldn’t have been the answer.
This could have happened even without injuries as we are old and they could just be burnt by now.

  23. ButtSmacker September 5th, 2012 at 5:06 pm

    Yank1 September 5th, 2012 at 5:05 pm

We’re facing a lefty, Jones is on the team to hit lefties and he hits them well.

This has to be sarcastic, right?

  26. J. Alfred Prufrock September 5th, 2012 at 5:11 pm

No Nunez* (iPhone) I’ll try to smuggle Adamsback with me

  27. LGY September 5th, 2012 at 5:12 pm

Looking at this lineup vs LHP, DOUBLE SPLIT fun time :D

Jesus Montero vs LHP away from SafeCo: .418/.452/.597

  28. Rob in Vt. September 5th, 2012 at 5:13 pm

    Martin,Granderson,Jones hitting 5,6,7. I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it
    with my own eyes.

  29. Wave Your Hat September 5th, 2012 at 5:13 pm

LGY, where are you getting those micro splits?

  30. yankeefeminista September 5th, 2012 at 5:13 pm

Um you watch on your phone (At Bat) as good as watching on Tv in NY. Why you in Tampa,, Mick

  31. Niblick September 5th, 2012 at 5:14 pm

This is a lineup that is guaranteed to lose.

Russell hitting 5th? He shouldn’t be hitting higher than 10th.

Jonesie? Pearcie? They shouldn’t even be in the majors.

I suppose we’re stuck with Nix if Robby is still hurt, but this is one ugly lineup.

  32. yankeefeminista September 5th, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Yeah having no Nunez in lineup does suck…

  33. Warning Track Power September 5th, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Great idea to have a team meeting. I obviously have to wonder who called the meeting or which members of the team led the meeting.

    ——————————————————————————
    Mick,
For the rest of this month, Nunez is no longer a player that can be inserted
into different defensive positions. He lost that role and clearly was not ready for
    that sort of role.

  36. PRDENTIST September 5th, 2012 at 5:18 pm

LGY….. Who the hell cares? He is not on the yankees anymore.

  38. LGY September 5th, 2012 at 5:20 pm

    Wave

I had no idea you could find these complex/double splits until SG from rlyw linked that website over the winter.

  39. Wave Your Hat September 5th, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Well if Pineda hadn’t gotten hurt he would have won three games Freddie lost and the Yanks would be home free, practically.

  40. blake September 5th, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Bowden says that the Yankees may have to sign Hamilton and trade for Joe Mauer to fix the offense this winter….clearly he hasnt heard that George passed away.

  41. Wave Your Hat September 5th, 2012 at 5:23 pm

LGY, those micro splits are cool. Probably meaningless, but cool.

  42. disco stu September 5th, 2012 at 5:24 pm

    nice lineup … ugh …

maybe when we least expect it something great will happen … we’ll find out soon enough.

  43. tomingeorgia September 5th, 2012 at 5:26 pm

    mick,
Find out who’s the best bugler here, or it could be ensemble. After all, “Taps” isn’t that difficult to play, but it has to be played well.

  44. theREALkevin September 5th, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Sigh, no Nunez. Pretty funny they are caring about defense when they can’t score to save their lives currently. Offense should be the priority right now.

  45. Warning Track Power September 5th, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Offense should be the #1 priority, therefore this is the line-up the team has to go with
    for now.
If Tex were available, the middle of the order would be slightly deeper.

  46. JM September 5th, 2012 at 5:30 pm

DanBarbarisi Girardi says he doesnt want his guys trying to play Smallball – fears that theyll never get swings back if they change approach

  47. yankeefeminista September 5th, 2012 at 5:30 pm

No Austin in Reading tonight. :(

    Thundering lineup: Garcia 8, Flores 7, Adams 5, Almonte 9, Maruszak 6, Murphy 2, Mahoney 3, Segedin 0, Ibarra 4, Marshall 1

  48. JM September 5th, 2012 at 5:31 pm

DanBarbarisi Girardi acknowledges calling team meeting, says he usually holds 3-5 team meetings per year. Seems happy with results

IT’S OFFICIAL! Hal Steinbrenner is the new James Dolan:

Another team owner who doesn’t care how unacceptable and embarrassing his team is playing as long as the money rolls in and the fannies are in the seats.

He’s basically saying Cashman and Girardi won’t be fired if the 2012 Yanks miss the postseason. If the Yanks miss the postseason and neither Cashman nor Girardi is fired, I am boycotting this team until there is accountability. Enough is enough!!!

If I was the owner of the Yankees, I’d call Cashman and Girardi into my office and tell them straight up: We miss the postseason, you two are fired, and if we lose the wildcard game, you two are on notice for next year. If either or both don’t like it, they can quit right then and there or whenever they want, good, they save me money. They are replaceable and let’s see either or both of them win a World Series without the Yankees, something neither has ever done.

I don’t want to hear about injuries and that’s why the Yanks are where they are and why Cashman and Girardi should not lose their jobs. Rivera fell to injury but Soriano stepped in his role to do a fine job overall. A-Rod fell to injury but Chavez/Nix/McGehee stepped in his position and produced numbers I doubt a healthy A-Rod would’ve equalled or topped. Pettitte fell to injury but Garcia stepped in his slot to do a solid job overall, last start notwithstanding. I’m amazed he’s still a Yankee on 9/4 considering I didn’t think he’d last all of last season. Gardner fell to injury but Jones/Ibanez/Dickerson/Wise/Suzuki on days he starts in LF stepped in to do an overall capable job with power to boot.

No, it’s not the injuries, it’s the leadership in two parts complacency (Steinbrenner Idiots oops Brothers) and my job is safe arrogance (Cashman and Girardi.) All three parties though they had it wrapped up on July 18 and that mentality trickled into the minds of too many Yankee players to count.

Leadership from ownership on down is using injuries as an excuse for this season being reduced to 27 games / one sixth of a season and possibly 28 games with the new wildcard game Sabathia MUST start, too bad if he can start only Game 3 of the ALDS (good, we’ll have him to complete the sweep, snap the 1-1 tie, or keep us alive, if it comes to that.)

Bottom line is if the Yanks don’t win the World Series this year, it will be the third straight year they haven’t even been to one, they will have only one WS title in the last dozen years, after Torre, and under Girardi who could be the first Yankee manager since Buck Showalter to manage two or more Yankee teams who didn’t make it to the postseason if the Yanks keep playing how they’ve played.

Jeter can only do so much and he is hands down the 2012 ALMVP if the Yanks make the postseason cuz they’d have been at least three games behind Tampa Bay never mind Baltimore without him.

  50. jacksquat September 5th, 2012 at 5:33 pm

As I suspected, Girardi completely ignored Moore’s backward splits.

    vs rhh: .226 .308 .370

    vs lhh: .278 .374 .391

  52. WMD September 5th, 2012 at 5:39 pm

things discussed during 20-minute players meeting: no urgency needed since they are still in 1st place & division is a lock since they have more talent than anyone else in the east & most importantly, even if they lose tonight they’ll just “get them” the next day. and don’t forget to tip your cap a lot to the opponent. and no, nobody is panicking. they’ll eventually get out of their slump. just let them play thru it. just too much talent on this roster to be in a slump for too long. oh but, make sure everyone is well rested. have a mild itch in the armpit, take 3 days off. indigestion, take rest of the week off. going to need them in the playoffs, you know. no big deal. vegas had them at 99.99% to win division. just going to coast the rest of the way and the division is theirs.

Russell Martin vs LHP post ASB

    .133/.278/.333

    Our #5 hitter!

lol, you think Maddon doesn’t know these numbers? He sure does.

Important point in the game, hmmm, Arod or Martin…

  54. jacksquat September 5th, 2012 at 5:41 pm

I bet Maddon snickered and laughed when he saw this lineup.

  55. blake September 5th, 2012 at 5:41 pm

Meh…our lefty options suck too…..it doesnt matter.

  56. Warning Track Power September 5th, 2012 at 5:44 pm

the game is SO HUGE tonight because kicking off
the 4 games series at the O’s is Phelps.
he did not pitch very well in his last “big start”, so what can the team expect
from him when given a 2nd chance?

“As I suspected, Girardi completely ignored Moore’s backward splits.”

I’d rather have Dickerson and Ichiro in there than Jones and Pearce (Swisher to 1B).

  58. Warning Track Power September 5th, 2012 at 5:49 pm

    Jack-
Both Dickerson and Ichiro could enter the game around the 7th as defensive
    replacements.
    Anything is possible.

  59. jacksquat September 5th, 2012 at 6:03 pm

I’d rather have their defense in there from the beginning, but moreso because at this point Jones and Pearce are not better hitters than Dickerson and Ichiro, and with Moore’s splits it makes more sense to play the lefties.

Oh well hopefully Jones can get lucky and connect for once.

  60. randy l. September 5th, 2012 at 6:11 pm

you get the feeling maddon enjoys playing the yankees and girardi.

  61. Villa Nova-Ya September 5th, 2012 at 6:11 pm

Everyone is batting under .200 for the past 10-14 days.

  62. charlestonchew September 5th, 2012 at 6:14 pm

Is it a bad sign that I’d rather see Pena over Nix and Cervelli over Martin? That I’d rather see Dickerson in LF than Jones, and Swisher @ 1st and Ichiro in RF?

Sometimes, I wonder what Girardi has in mind and if he’s really seeing the same games we are. I know it’s different at the managerial level, but there has to be some concern about Granderson (needs to work again with Kevin Long, probably, on staying back against lefty breaking balls in the dirty away). There should be more concern that we’re starting Steve Pearce at 1B.

  63. Warning Track Power September 5th, 2012 at 6:19 pm

    ———————————————————
I agree with Dickerson over Jones, might as well improve the defense.

Nix, while obviously unspectacular, has been solid offensively, especially considering he is a UT man… Nix post ASB: .295/.353/.423/.776

  65. ButtSmacker September 5th, 2012 at 6:22 pm

As much as I can’t stand Martin it seems him and Kuroda have a report from their days in LA… I wouldn’t mind seeing Cervelli get a start but it would not be during a game where Kuroda is the starter.

  66. blake September 5th, 2012 at 6:22 pm

Maybe the Yanks need some chicken and beer?

  67. ButtSmacker September 5th, 2012 at 6:23 pm

Didn’t Girardi just hold a team meeting after the loss to the O’s on Friday night? Holding team meetings and getting thrown out of games is fine. Hopefully the wins follow.

  69. mick September 5th, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Girardi does not gamble or play hunches.
Nunez should have been in a few games after his 1st game big hit.

    ——————————————————————————————————————-
I can’t imagine how anybody would want Pena in the game over Nix and
Cervelli behind the plate over Martin
Pena is a weak hitter. What can he do that Nix has not already done for the team?
Cervelli is a weak hitter and so is Martin, but on D, Martin is clearly the better catcher.

    No upgrade with either choice.

  71. Andymelillo September 5th, 2012 at 6:28 pm

  74. blake September 5th, 2012 at 6:31 pm

If popeyes and bud light were the Sox chicken and beer of choice…..what would be the Yankees?

  75. Ken Phelps September 5th, 2012 at 6:39 pm

When you look at hitters 5-9 in this line-up you begin to understand why this team can’t score runs

  76. Ken Phelps September 5th, 2012 at 6:41 pm

Giradi got to find at- bats for Nunez

  77. longtimefan September 5th, 2012 at 7:08 pm

    Cervelli AAA .246 OBP .341 Martin .199 OBP .304

Between Jones, Martin and Pearce you give up 3 outs before you start–Girardi must have played pen the tail on the player
