Moore vs. Yankees
TIME/TV: 7:10 p.m., YES Network and MLB Network
WEATHER: Pretty warm down here. Not a bad night to have the roof. And the AC.
UMPIRES: HP Bob Davidson, 1B Brian Gorman, 2B Todd Tichenor, 3B Tony Randazzo
IN CLOSING: The Yankees are 26-17 in series finales and have won 11 of their last 14 finales on the road. They are 3-4 in games when trying to avoid a sweep in 2012.
AVOID THE BROOM: The Yankees are looking to avoid being swept for the fifth time this season, which would surpass their total from last year. All four of their previous sweeps have come on the road. They?are looking to avoid being swept by the Rays for the second time this season and third time in their last four series in St. Petersburg.
UNLUCKY SEVEN: The Yankees have failed to score more than seven runs in any of their past 20 games. Earlier this season — from June 9 through July 4 — they went 24 consecutive games without scoring at least seven runs. Those are two of the franchise’s three longest such stretches since 1997. They also went 26 games without scoring more than seven runs in 2001.
UPDATE, 7:33 p.m.: Predictably, the Rays use a sac bunt to manufacture a first-inning run. It’s now 1-0 Rays.
UPDATE, 8:17 p.m.: Guess Alex didn’t get any balls in the dirt during his rehab assignment. His knowing-when-to-send-runners instinct is off, but he’s just doubled in a run to tie the game at 1.
UPDATE, 8:18 p.m.: Now Russell Martin with a two-run double.
UPDATE, 8:37 p.m.: Jeter’s third hit of the game is a two-out double in the fifth.
UPDATE, 8:58 p.m.: Two-out rally in the fifth has the game tied at 3 on Zobrist’s two-run triple. Seems fitting that the Yankees offense is going to have to get this thing done. Can’t lean on Kuroda for this one.
UPDATE, 9:06 p.m.: Go-ahead homer for Martin who has three RBI tonight and has twice put the Yankees in front.
UPDATE, 9:30 p.m.: Terrible throw by Johnson and the Yankees get two runs out of it for a 6-4 lead in the seventh. Jeter wound up at second and stole third, putting the Yankees in position to score another run in this inning.
UPDATE, 9:48 p.m.: Huge play by Jeter to end the seventh. Huge.

Yikes, sorry about that. Had some things going wrong on my end and the game post was a half inning late. That’s my bad. Now feel free to discuss the Cano double play ball.
Hey, it’s a no bunting, no stealing, double play hitting team.
Just win, baby-San!
Kuroda should handle this lineup with just his regular stuff.
Unless Kuroda throws 7 shutout innings it will be very tough to win tonight
asinine decision to rest Upton with a day off tomorrow. Madden taking a book out of Girardi’s
I believe in bunting, and at this point I think any player who knows how to do it should employ it to move a runner along, especially if the player is slumping badly.
Oh well.
1st inning blues, 3 straight times?
so the Rays bunt but bunting is too good for us
Shocking turn of events in the top of the 1st
ARod is known as a great bunter. He no longer seems to be a high AVG, OBP, or SLG % batter, he should definitely employ the bunt if the situation hands itself. The issue is that a 2 run go ahead homer seems more enticing than a tie game.
Maddon loves trolling the Yanks. Laying down that bunt there.
The Trop is a Ghost Town tonight. Where are all the fans. Camden Yards who is also struggling with attendance is sold out for tomorrow’s game.
Tired of hearing “Taps” played all afternoon. How about “To the Colors”, if anybody understands what that is.
arod would have been up 2nd tonite if i were managing..
I would rather have Martin batting 2nd so he can bunt every time jeter gets on base. Swisher is killing them in that spot. Swisher is either hot or extremely cold no inbetweens for him. Now he is getting all off speed pitches and has no idea what to do.
1st inning blues for hiro
Game set and match.
GAME OVER!
Madden bunts and gets the lead and we wait for the 3 run homer
So annoying.
I was just going to say I would pitch around longoria here. It makes absolutely no sense to pitch to their only major leaguer with 1st base open. Really really stupid.
and that is why Tampa is winning and the Yanks are losing.
Wow, look at that, a run because of a bunt.
Maddon is mocking Girardi.
hahaha. The sad thing is that it probably really is. I love Girardi’s arrogance and the way he enables this team to continue w/ their swing for the fences approach.
yanks losing and o’s & rays winning. shocking development
That didn’t take long. Baltimore’s winning; the Yanks are losing. By the weekend, hope for a wild card will be but a distant memory.
awesome managing job by Joe
Maddon is a much better manager than Girardi. That’s no secret.
Even if the yanks bunted cano or arod would never get a a big hit. The Yankees don’t hit with risp or get big 2 out hits.
Wouldn’t it be great if Girardi just said that about bunting for public consumption and actually called for a bunt once in a while? I doubt he did that because he wouldn’t want to look like a liar or look like his guys were defying him.
girardi has lost his mind…why did he have to say anything?
The difference is their hitter went the other way with a RISP. I wish Piniella was the hitting coach.
no moving of the runners. 1-0 deficit. Fundamental is lacking
girardi doesn’t comment on anything but has to throw klong under the bus?
sweet lou just about told girardi to loosen up….he would at a time like this.
can’t be. just too much talent not to win the division. c’mon, the o’s and rays are scrubs compared to all-stars on this yankee roster
Lou: “That’s what I would do if I were the Mgr.”
A good manager like maddon or Washington would NEVER let the opposing teams best hitter beat them in that spot. Girardi really is a bad manager and continues to let this crap happen. He used to let Cabrera beat them on every game.
They’re all swinging for the fences.
Oh dear.
Martin almost to the Martin Line.
a part of me wants to see this blow up just to see what Hal will do.
This aint softball.
nice 3-1 swing there russ
Martin swings at a pitch basically in the dirt on a 1-0 count, and then can’t do anything with a 3-1 count later in the AB.
Against a pitcher like Matt Moore, I think any more than 3 runs tonight would be a miracle.
I almost never complain about anything but Girardi has gone off the deep end about moving runners over.
First he throws his hitting coach under a bus…
Then he tells Maddon the Yankees won’t bunt to move a runner over…
Then Jeter leads off with a hit and Swish, who is in a bad slump, not only doesn’t bunt but K’s looking really bad…
Then, of course, Robby hits a 2 hopper for a DP…
He could have easily used that opportunity to create some doubt in Maddon’s head, moved Jeter over and given Cano and Arod opportunities to knock in a run…
Instead, he makes himself look like an even more stubborn, petulant idiot…
Same old approach.
So far so good this line up in getting the job done, lol
real confidence inspiring there
Joe G is being exposed.
The honeymoon is over.
Granderson strikes out!! SHOCKER!!
The yanks will be happy to just score 1 run tonight and not get shut out. Girardi knows how bad the offense has been how can you let longoria beat you?? The offense is brutal.
They’re all swinging for the fences.
Oh dear.

Hitting doesn’t matter remember
I’ve been a huge supporter of Girardi but I wouldn’t mind seeing Sweet Lou at the helm. I just believe he’d get so much more out of his players.
joeman September 3rd, 2012 at 9:13 am
I’m calling it 1-2 and if CC can’t get a W it could be a sweep
“Hitting doesn’t matter remember”
You don’t matter. Remember.
trisha-
After watching Pinella in his last season as a Cub, I think he’s done as a manager. He was a good one though that’s for sure.
Kuroda knows how important these games are. Nice play.
Tyler, I think he left managing more because he had losing teams in the Rays and the Cubs. I wonder if he’d consider managing again. Maybe he wouldn’t.
What happened to the delusional Pollyanna Yankees do everything right Trisha?
You know its getting bad when even she is panicking
Russell Martin’s hitting 5th? Is that some type of cruel joke?
This one has 4 – 0 written all over it.
We don’t know what Hal will do if they implode he’s got to have some of his old man in him, right?
Lou would take this job if offered.
You know things are bad when you would rather watch Mariah Carrey sing a dumb pregame song for the Giants game then watch Granderson K for the millionth time.
Was it last year when the Yanks passed on Keppinger? He seems to be hitting the ball well this series.
Flores just hit a two run homer.
Holy crap the Blue Jays scored a run off the immortal Gonazlez
trisha-
I’d be shocked if he did but I guess you never know… he actually had a good year or two with the Cubs but I just don’t think he wants to put the time and effort into managing at his age. Plus, he really wasn’t doing that great of a job toward the end of his Cubs tenure.
Keppinger has over 300 ABs and 20 Ks. Pretty old school.
Buck Showalter and Lou would definitely have a thriving team if managing the Yankees. Lou would be an incredibly interesting manager to watch though. I would LOVE to have him as a manager. Not to say I dislike Girardi, but I would definitely prefer Lou. He is hard nosed, and he isn’t afraid to hurt anyone’s feelings. Whatever it takes to win.
At least the Giants play tonight, it’s a good way to avert the eyes…
And then there’s a hit & run by Maddon. He’s definitely needling Girardi.
nobody cares…
A-Rod can’t reach the outfield at the plate. What an albatross for the next X years.
Why is Pearce in this lineup? An indictment on CASH man to have a 200 mill payroll and having to play a steve pearce.
TheStraw September 5th, 2012 at 7:42 pm
Was it last year when the Yanks passed on Keppinger? He seems to be hitting the ball well this series.

Keppinger is the type of player this team needs right now. He can play everywhere and is a contact hitter who fights every at bat.

Agreed, I need a mental break from the Yanks if just for 1 night
Would Piniella think coming to the Yankees the next couple years is a good opportunity with the huge salary reduction coming?
Granderson. Sigh.
Sweet defense Grandy….
Well the bright side is at least we will get a better draft pick for the organization to damage
He can play everywhere and is a contact hitter who fights every at bat.
===========
and he can bunt…
wow UNCLE TOM GRANDERSON is really playing his way out of town.
Another botched flyball over his head. What a joke he is. Tigers were right to trade him.
Sorry guys, I meant 8 – 0. This is the worst Yankee team since the early 90′s. I miss Kevin Maas right about now.
Jose Lobaton…. if he can do it why can’t some of these Yankees do it?
Granderson should probably listen to what Jones told him. DO NOT FOLLOW THE BALL. Estimate where it will go, then look, then make adjustments, THEN make the catch.
I thought he was an excellent defender for a while, but he is really showing that he is not very adequate out there.
Granderson is dreadful in reading balls. Catch the freakin ball and stop freezing as soon as it is hit. Any good CFer catches that ball. Unreal.
Our pitching has certainly showed up this last week
Don’t know what is going to happen in this game but seems like the same old stuff. Kind of sorry I bought those tickets to the Baltimore series this weekend.
Hate to say it, but Dickerson would have had that, because he doesn’t play too shallow.
are we sure the 1991 or 1992 Yankees haven’t been somehow morphed into this team?
I can’t remember a talented Yankees team playing such bad baseball for so long, they are as tight as any team, in any sport, that I can ever remember.
mick-
I know that the Yanks haven’t spent as much these past couple offseasons but it really is amazing how bad this team is for 200 million dollars. I know injuries take a toll but you’d think there would be some sort of depth at that price.
And now Kuroda can’t get Keppinger or Lobaton out. Just when you think it can’t get worse.
Always chuckled when people would say that Granderson was an above average CF. Those defensive metrics aren’t always right, but they were about Grandy. To make matters worse he also has a mediocre arm out there.
This is like the garbage late-80s teams, a long slow fade. Except parking has gone up from $10 to $35 and a seat down low will set you back $65 instead of $10.
Hopefully Kuroda can get out of this otherwise it’s probably game over.
Arrogance and sheer Girardi’s donkey-ness will do this team in this year.
Good job by Kuroda to do his job. He kept him at third.
Also a good job by Keppinger to not jump the gun and get caught in a run down.
Atta boy Hiro!
tyler-
200m doesn’t buy you what it used to…
Good job by Kuroda to do his job. He kept him at third.
—————————-
It was a bad bunt. A decent bunt and its 2-0. Had nothing to do with Kuroda
mick-
Not when that 200m is tied up in only a few players.
Does anyone see us scratching out a run against Moore?

————————————————
there are like three or four players making up half of that $200 Mil
therealkevin,
What I like is how shallow he plays. Not too many dunkers fall in front of him. He can also make up ground. He is just terrible at reading the ball, jumps, and tracking the ball. He has a terrible eye out there.
Jays get a run back. 2-1.
Anyone know our projected pitching rotation in Bmore?
I think the Yankees should hire Phil Linz as the 3rd base coach and send him on the team bus with a harmonica after this series, maybe it will snap Girardi the way it snapped Yogi in ’64 and they will wake up…
a seat down low will set you back $65 instead of $10.
==============
maybe for a spring training game.
Alright Giants fans (I’m a Rams fan so I need help on this), I’m starting Bradshaw tonight at my flex position for fantasy football…. good move or should I start Reggie Wayne at Chicago instead?
I’d rather Granderson play a little deeper. It’s usually not the singles that beat you, it’s the doubles and triples over your head.
“Does anyone see us scratching out a run against Moore?”
I can see scratching out at least a few.
if Fuld gets a 2 out, 2 run hit here I will not watch another Yankees game for the next week…
trisha-
Unless I’m mistaken it would be everybody except Kuroda since it’s a 4 gamer?….
Oh how I miss the days when the Yankees didn’t have to bring the infield in in the 2nd inning
Good job Kuroda.
Let’s go offense!
Girardi is history after they finish 86 – 76.
CC up first?

joeman,
You’re absolutely right. I would love to know the offensive averages of those players this season. I would image it’s something like .275 BA,under .500 SLG,with around a .350 OBP for an average of $23 million.
That’s my gripe with ARod. I feel as if for his pay we could get a very good position player, reliever, and starting pitcher for that money. He is worth less than 1/3 of his pay right now.
Thatta boy. Good job!
I really can’t beat that they pitched to Longoria with 1st base open. The Rays lineup is absolutely dreadful if you hit your spots. The Yanks probably don’t even need a manger. He just lets the guys play and never has a feel for the game or even uses any strategy.
CC will pitch Saturday, which leaves Freddy for Sunday. I do see the Yankees taking one of four in Baltimore. There will be another freaky game like last Saturday.
They’ll get 1 run. Someone will homer when it’s 5-0.
I agree with the Kaat principle. If they fall in front of the OFs, it’s their fault, but if they go over their head it’s the pitcher’s fault.
maybe Jeter will hit one out.
Smiley is playing. How exciting.
Winning,
Yeah you’re right about his reads. Which is why I think he’d be much better suited for a corner outfield spot. If you make a bad read in CF, there’s so much ground, the runners can run all day. You put Grandy in right or left I think he becomes a plus defender. I wish Gardner was around to at least have a debate as to who should play CF, but no such luck.

stuck with him no way around it unless he retires
i heard K call Jones ,Andy, on his radio show, was he kidding?
Love how fast this team goes 0-2
Jones could have taken that one in the foot.
the way Jones is flailing at the plate they would be better off with the batboy up there, at least there would be a chance for a walk…
Ahmad Bradshaw good fantasy start tonight? Help me out Giants fans!
Jones with the K? NO WAY
will Girardi ever stop playing Jonesy?
MG,
Can’t get out of this torture that easily.
Let’s see, down 1-0 in the third. Hara kiri time.
Can Kuroda hit?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is such a sad commentary on the current state of affairs.
Is Jones even trying? Nice to even swing the bat. It’s disgusting that the Yanks still play this guy.
Jones is dead wood
why is Pearce on this team?
I like Andruw’s strategy there…. probably not going to get a hit if he swings so why bother?
Blake-
Just tuned in to see Jones not even take the bat off his shoulder!
If I remember right, Lou said a couple years ago, that he didn’t think he would manage again.
If you read what Hal said, it sounds like what G-man and all the rest are saying. “We’ll come around……..”
They’re not gonna spend a bunch of $$$ for sure.
There is a time for little ball and we better start using it. We not hitting anything.
Looks like the Angels are starting a little run. They still could be the team to beat.
Robbie621 September 5th, 2012 at 7:54 pm
They’ll get 1 run. Someone will homer when it’s 5-0.
my $$$ is on Swisher and then him and A Jones will be all smiles in the dugout
Scoring, realistically, is looking pretty iffy.
Cant wait until we get Tex back, he’ll right this ship.
What was that 2 outs in 2 seconds?
NYY girl — it’s like picking cherries for Moore. He is dominating them.
jacksquat,
I’m not disagreeing, but those dunkers are just as bad if the runner can steal second. I specifically mentioned he can make up ground at an above average rate (in my opinion.) So compared to other players, he is making up that ground. Where I absolutely agree with you, is that based on his personal defensive abilities, he is better at playing back more than he does. If we had Trout in CF, he would definitely be an asset playing closer to the infield. We all know he can run his ass back to the wall as fast as anybody if need be. Playing more shallow also allows for a much greater chance of getting the runner out on the bases, specifically at home.
will Girardi ever stop playing Jonesy?
No he is one of the manager’s pets just like Martin Munson
theREALkevin September 5th, 2012 at 7:55 pm
Jones with the K? NO WAY
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Girardi’s trying to prove he’s right, of course. So instead of just not bunting, he’s going to throw the one guy in the line up who can ONLY hit HRs just to show everyone.
the way Moore is throwing tonight the Yankees have no chance, period.
I hate to say that but he is just overpowering them, the only decent swing so far has been Jeter’s single to right and he just flicked the bat out there for that one.
Lol and cries at 0-2
Jays tie the score. 2-2
I like Andruw’s strategy there…. probably not going to get a hit if he swings so why bother?
========================
sort of like jeter and his low uzr.
I can’t watch Andrew Jones play anymore….
How can you play Jones of Nunez?!
these guys are just waaaay overmatched (so far).
Jones, Pierce and Nix. Hmm what’s wrong with that picture.
Anyway it stops tonight. Yankees are taking this game!
I said 86 – 76. Any other prognostications?
Maybe if the offense scoreboard watches it will get head of steam seeing that the Jays tied their game and have some adrenaline at bats.
I like Andruw’s strategy there…. probably not going to get a hit if he swings so why bother?

LOL
“the way Moore is throwing tonight the Yankees have no chance, period”
zip….he is throwing the ball great ….a good offense would have trouble with him if he keeps this up….this one has little chance unless Jeter goes yard if he keeps throwing this way.
Apparently Girardi has decided that they are going to do this his way for better or worse it appears. If the ship sinks so be it. They will play the veterans over Nunez & resist bringing up any other hitters from the minors. It’s a shame really, but it is what it is. There is no justification for continuing to play guys like Jones yet they still get ABs. I guess he is operating under the “well he can’t be this bad forever” theory. Probably not great to manage like that.

We are stuck with him for a LONG while longer. Sometimes I wish the MLB players union was like the NFL.
what time is Bubba on?
Got to love the professional AB’s the yankees are putting up tonight.
I’m not saying Granderson should play deep, just move him back a little bit. That ball needs to be caught.
Tyler – I don’t watch football or I would try to help out.
This is embarrassing they are totally overmatched. Moore has good stuff but this more about them being totally lost and not even taking confident swing.
6k’s DOMINATING
Keppinger has over 300 ABs and 20 Ks. Pretty old school.

He is a guy I advocated acquiring for the utility role in 2010 and 2011…then of course the Rays get him and he is great

I like Lou doing the games. Informative and not afraid to call it like he sees it. His life is probably way too pleasant to consider managing again.
Apparently Girardi has decided that they are going to do this his way for better or worse it appears.
==================
been saying it all along, maybe he can be humiliated by the media into quitting, doubt it.
Wang,
Yes you’re right. And that is been one of Girardi’s biggest flaws. He’s stubborn to the point of absurdity. To the point where it even hurts the team and just to prove a point. Selfish.

it’s a good thing I have thick skin, I live in the Tampa market and the fair weather, only acknowledge the Rays when they win fanbase, are starting to give me a tough time…

they are going to have a tough time putting up 1-2 runs against this kid tonight
Rays have number one ERA in the majors. It shows.
trisha-
Haha not a problem. Don’t play fantasy football, it will consume your life lol.
Kuroda now gets 3.63 runs support on average
If or when Kuroda gives up another run this game is over. I am not saying that they aren’t trying but they have no life to them and just look overmatched. Cashman can’t be happy with the effort. Super stars that don’t have any confidence isn’t a good thing at all.
Moore gave up 2 runs in 6 innings in his last start and 3 before that. You people are making him out to be Pedro
Yeah Kenny, all will be cured at Camden Yards.
Mick,
Unfortunately I think the only chance we have of seeing Girardi gone is if they completely tank and miss the playoffs altogether. Even Hal couldn’t allow that to happen without any heads rolling I don’t think. ALthough maybe they would go the pansy route and just ax Kevin Long or something.

every once in awhile a team runs into a guy just throwing the heck out of the ball, it should only be one game but they have made mediocre pitchers look great in the past few weeks and made this one really painful.
27 minutes to the Giants…
Trader – with the Rays number one in ERA, you probably don’t even look at run support numbers.
Against great pitching you just try to find a way to scratch out runs.
Rays have number one ERA in the majors. It shows.

Yet they are in third place
This game against Moore (although it’s not over ) and the game they faced Sale, I don’t blame the Yankees for. Sometimes the guy just throws unbelievable and these are great pitchers. The games that kill me are when they lose to the Blue Jays or are shut down by freakin’ Miguel Gonzalez and Randy Wolff.
Against great pitching you just try to find a way to scratch out runs.

Yea that Alex Cobb is some great pitcher

=====================
don’t count on it…they would blame the injuries.
Captain — Jeter is the only legitimate superstar on this team. A-Rod is done. No one else qualifies.
Whether the Yankees win the World Series, or don’t make the playoffs. I don’t believe for a second that the Yankees will be under the luxury tax in a couple years. I think that is their legitimate intention, but it just won’t happen. The Yankees have too many long and bad contracts to be successful without spending some more money over the next few years.
Hal can have a $500million payroll, and he will still be god awful rich for the remainder of his life. A $25million luxury tax does nothing for him financially. He is a business man, and eventually he will realize he will lose more than $25million if he doesn’t put a competitive team on the field.
if everything stayed the same next year with this pitching staff ( SP ) Moore would be a #2 SP next year if he were a Yankee
Kuroda giving his all, 95mph.
Matt Moore has a 3.60 ERA this year and he has a 1.33 whip. Far from great numbers
the steinbrenner family is pocketing more bucks despite $200M payroll. look at the owners of the dodgers, they just paid $2.15B for the team, they don’t have the luxury suites or the sweetheart deal from facist guiliani that raped the city, don’t have their own network like YES (which you figure probably rolls in at least $500M annually if fox is willing to pay $200M/yr for the dodgers tv rights) and they’re spending like no tomorrow. that’s not including merchandising or the 3M fans from gate receipts and concession. and they are scrimping on guys like mcghee, pearce, qualls & lowe? WTF? is it surprising the team is tanking like this? my cable bill is at least $10 more each month because of the YES network and i can’t exclude it from the cable package even if i don’t watch it because the team sucks. that’s probably close to $1B in annual revenue and they have guys on the cheap like ibanez, jones, rapada & eppedly?
I think they would just blame it on injuries and Girardi will be back next year no matter what. Hal was already talking about all the injuries to the Post.
FIGHT!
Oh never mind. We need something to get us going.
“Super stars that don’t have any confidence isn’t a good thing at all.”
Yeah, and teams that are just pretty good but on a hot streak suddenly have all the confidence in the world. Teams like that play loose. Teams in a major-league slump are tight as a drum.
That’s why you need your pitching to keep it incredibly low-scoring until the bats start to warm up.
I cant believe im scoreboard watching the Orioles… smh
Obviously Jeter is a superstar. He has a legitimate shot to have the 2nd most career hits in the history of MLB. He could have the most hits in HOF history.
You can’t take Cano out of the question either. Yes, he is struggling, but he is a monster that will benefit every single team that he is on.
ZMANINSJ September 5th, 2012 at 8:04 pm
Captain — Jeter is the only legitimate superstar on this team. A-Rod is done. No one else qualifies.

Cano?
Nice job Hiroki.
Win your own games and quit making dumb excuses for the offense struggling. It’s not the Yankees starting pitchers fault and its not the fault of the team playing the O’s.

Kuroda is good, but you can’t ask the guy to throw a shut-out.
I Am Winning September 5th, 2012 at 8:05 pm
Whether the Yankees win the World Series, or don’t make the playoffs. I don’t believe for a second that the Yankees will be under the luxury tax in a couple years. I think that is their legitimate intention, but it just won’t happen. The Yankees have too many long and bad contracts to be successful without spending some more money over the next few years.
Hal can have a $500million payroll, and he will still be god awful rich for the remainder of his life. A $25million luxury tax does nothing for him financially. He is a business man, and eventually he will realize he will lose more than $25million if he doesn’t put a competitive team on the field.
==========================
I don’t think that’s their intention at all. ( to spend ) We’ll have to wait & see.
Kuroda is pitching really well as usual…….

But 2.08 ERA post All-Star.
“I cant believe im scoreboard watching the Orioles… smh”
That’s as much an out-of-body experience as watching the Yankees go through this nightmare.
Fair enough, Tyler. Cano deserves that status despite his casualness.
there are very few pitcher’s futures I would take over Matt Moore’s…..like less that 5….he’s going to be that good.
Why couldn’t Nunez play LF tonight? He can’t be worse then smiley out there. He can hit and gives effort the 2 things that Jones doesn’t do. I hate the fact that Girardi doesn’t play him because he has to go with the veteran even though he is finished.

Unknown-
Some games the other guy is just better than you which is happening right now. In my opinion, the Yanks problem is when they face a guy like Randy Wolff who should never be better than them and go on to lose those games. Same thing with the Blue Jays series and Miguel Gonzalez.
There is no justification for continuing to play guys like Jones yet they still get ABs. I guess he is operating under the “well he can’t be this bad forever” theory. Probably not great to manage like that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not when the player is older and not in his prime.
Trisha-
Kuroda is the Ace of the staff, gets less run support than every Ray starter except Hellickson, and even less than King Felix.
Kuroda gets 2 runs less than Sabathia gets. If the Yankees fail in the postseason and offer him another one year contract, he’ll probably see if the Dodgers want him back or return to Japan.
4 NYY,
I’m saying they have every intention to be under the luxury tax; but when push comes to shove, it won’t happen.
this is probably the best Moore has thrown the ball all year, every pitch is in the glove and on the corner so far…
“That’s why you need your pitching to keep it incredibly low-scoring until the bats start to warm up.”
A base runner!!!
when you put the ball in play good things can happen.
Jeter deserves breaks like that because he’s actually got some energy and life to his game.
I love Moore and his potential and what he has done since the break. My point was not that he isn’t a good pitcher but that he gave up a total of 5 runs in the last 2 games. Why can’t the yankees score 2 runs off of him. That is my point.
Jeter is the only person who can reach base. Let me guess Swisher strikes out and Cano hits into a DP? Or Swish hits into a DP. One or the other. Swish please bunt!!!
Atta boy, Jeet. Let’s tie this game up.
Matt Moore is going to be awesome one day soon, but the Yankees probably couldn’t hit anyone right now. It just makes it tougher that they’re up against a quality pitcher tonight.
not bunting again. Joe Girardi strikes again
And so goes this inning . . .
Every year this teams numbers are declining. We get another year older and our supposed allstars stats decline further each year yet expectations are the same as if they have skills like in their prime.
I mean am i the only one seeing the consistent drop in stats each year ?
Oh look swish went for a homer!
Can’t wait for the praise given to Saunders this weekend when the Yanks get 1 or 2 runs off of him.
Come on Robby!
No bunt let’s just swing at the 1st pitch. This team is soooo hard to watch. Swisher was probably scared to strike out on an off speed pitch so he swung at the fastball. Terrible at bats.
It’s crazy how similar David Price and Matt Moore are. Their repertoires are really similar and they’re both lefty. Unfair that they have both of those guys
Yea once they get Tex back they will be back to scoring 10 runs again
I didn’t like the fact that Cano took a strike right down the middle when the Yankees have been baffled by him. He was obviously going to throw a strike, and he just took it. I’m a proponent of taking the 4th pitch most of the time, but just here it didn’t make sense. It didn’t hurt us, he obviously walked, but I would have loved to see him swing.
“they are having a hard time scoring runs of of anyone SP’s or RP’s”
Ah MG. Astute posting as opposed to trashing the Yankees or crying over every pitch.
We’ll leave that to the resident lemon sucker.
ARod missing meatballs too. -__-
Alex had his pitch there, he just can’t square up a good fastball on command anymore
I’ll take as many walks as we can get.
Key at bat here.
That was a good swing. Moore is probably too much for Arod right now. His timing isn’t locked in yet.
you don’t need 10 runs, 6 would do it
they scored 20 runs in the last 7 games and 12 of them came in two games
OMG
mick, why bother. Malcontents are malcontents. They don’t change their stripes whether the Yankees are winning or losing.
He hit it to the outfield!!!!
The only hard hit ball by ARod since coming back. Wow was that a relief. Very nice swing.
A-ROD!!
SOONER THAN I THOUGHT….TAKE THAT DOOMERS
Allright
Go Arod!!! That’s a big hit especially since his timing isn’t 100% yet.
Yes!!
For the record, I was wrong about Arod never finding his swing once he was back. He’s done fine so far.
Granderson used to make that play close
Russell’s highest BA since June 20.
so arod and jeter have a laughing moment on the ball that got away from molina. that’s a GREAT sign. we are not pressing. we are still having fun out there.
Coltrane!
Where is Tex? How much longer.
if Jones gets a hit here does that blow up the blog?
This crooked number looks like the gnarled hands of a 90-year-woman right now.
I think Russell will end up higher than Grandy.
Can’t help but wonder if laughing at his mistake with Jeter loosened them all up. Hope so. It certainly did the trick for ARod.
Martin @ .201
A-Rod guessed right that AB. Won’t happen every time, but when it does it can get you a bit hit like that.
Now it’s up to Kuroda to throw up some zeros.
Any chance Kuroda wakes up from a dream?
Jones
please just find a hole
If Jones can get hit now, that will make my night
Smiley with a giant homerun swing……What a surprise. I am so tired of him already.
lucky hit here andy
Kuroda better throw a 123 inning now
Jones living on the Mendoza line and now below it?
Thank goodness for some runs.
take andy out for defensive puposes…NOW!
Must feel like a 10 run lead to Kuroda.
you could see the difference in Moore this inning, maybe it was having to pitch from the stretch, maybe he just lost his concentration.
that’s what happens with young pitchers, fortunately the Yankees took advantage of it because if he sustained what he was throwing the 1st 3 innings they weren’t scoring much if anything.
Glad that they finally scored a few runs, but I’m not sold yet that they’re out of their slump. A-Rod guessed right on that FB, won’t happen every time. And Martin’s hit was sort of lucky- he was way late and it kind of found a nice spot down the line. We’ll see if they can build on this.
Girardi has to seriously stop playing Jones. He can’t drive the ball and looks terrible. Let Nunez play LF for a day. The Yanks are stupid Nunez should have been playing the outfield the whole time he was in AAA.
If they can just
eek out a win and just split four in Baltimore. Maybe that’s asking too much, but I think they have to take 2 against the O’s.
Gee – they are going to need a better excuse to sit Austin – - – -seniority in AA?
It appears the bats have started to warm up. And pitching kept it incredibly low.
If Joe G would have done what Maddon did (safety squeeze) and it didnt work, a lot of you will be pissed right now.
Key inning. Have to shut them down now.
“Key inning”
The next 6 innings are key.
Now Kuroda has to pitch a 1,2,3 inning. It would be awful if he gives back the runs right away. It really has to mess with the guys heads.
Ok. Say we make the playoffs. Does Girardi have the guts to start Kuroda over CC? I would and I like CC.
can hirok NOT have a 1-2-3 inning!!!
“Key inning. Have to shut them down now.”
Yes
Damn a lucky hit
phelps tomorrow, i smell 2 game winning streak…
This inning is huge. CC gives them right back. Let’s hope Kuroda doesn’t.
I agree with that. They obviously need to win now — their guys are OLD.
Ads popping up on the screen MID-GAME now? Come on…
Nice inning!
I got that same message in my fortune cookie today.
Phil Simms, my favorite all time Giant, carrying out the Super Bowl trophy 1st tonight followed by Otis Anderson…
Wow. A pitcher that didn’t cough up the lead right away! It feels like ages since that has happened.
“Super stars that don’t have any confidence isn’t a good thing at all.”
Super stars with renewed confidence is a real sweet thing to watch.
And Kuroda throws up a huge zero.
“I got that same message in my fortune cookie today.”
Have we not seen enough of Steve Pearce yet. What exactly does he offer?
Hopefully Tex comes back really really soon. Pierce is a AAA guy he shouldn’t be in the lineup.
kuroda has been such a great acquisition. who would’ve thought an NL west pitcher would pitch well in the AL east.
Trisha — It’s still just one inning. Let’s keep things in perspective.
Funniest thing I heard all week
This is all just a start to getting things going in the right direction again. A win tonight is huge but it doesn’t mean a thing if we get swept in B-More.
Hopefully winning tonight gives everyone that good feeling back again and we do the sweeping in B-More, but a win tonight alone doesn’t raise any flags.
One day at a time right now and that’s just fine with me.
Gonzalez (the good one) throwing a no no through 5
Anybody watching the Giants game?
jeter 3-3…GAMER.
Went to go eat dinner and I come back and the Yanks have scored 3…. maybe I should just stay away lol.
how great is Derek Jeter…
Jeter talking with his bat tonight.
Jeter has been unreal recently. They need someone batting 2nd who can actually hit and score him.
Good evening,
El capitan!
What a year for Jeter. Wish he could teach Tex, Granderson, etc to hit the other way.
Jeet!!!!
This is how Jeter leads, by being a beast during the games. He is going to do all he can to carry this team to another Eastern Division Championship.
ZMANINSJ, I was only responding to the fact that you asked this question – “Does anyone see us scratching out a run against Moore?” and I said yes, I saw us scratching out at least a few!
swish with a line single…
Swisher needs to bat 7th or 8th. Let Tex bat 2nd. He has a good eye.
That was ball 3. Swisher is really killing them.
Give Ichiro a shot in the 2 hole.
I’m fine with a total of 3 runs tonight. That should be good enough to get a win with Kuroda on the mound.
Actually I’m not fine with 3 runs but I think a win can be managed with only 3 runs. I said earlier I would’ve signed up for 3 runs in a heartbeat tonight.
Ichiro is toast and he doesn’t take enough pitches.
Triple – let me guess. You were a bed wetter until the age of 21 – if you’re even that old.
Positive people to you are like garlic to a vampire.
I have a great idea. Pretend that you had faith in the Yankees all long. Especially Alex.
let ichiro bunt jete to 2nd…
That was strike 3
We need to take a lead into the 9th. I’d like it to be at least two runs.
Pitchers pitching in their old ball parks always give me at least a little pause.
Okay, we’ll take strike 4 too
the #2 spot in the lineup is gold.
granderson in #2 – good.
granderson out of #2 – bad.
swisher in #2 – good.
4 NYY – it’s kind of a strange thing but I clearly remember no hitters being broken up by members of the pitcher’s former team – not all the time of course because there aren’t always members of the pitcher’s former team as opponents. But when there are, it just seems that they are the ones to break it up. So it always makes me think it’s because they are thoroughly familar with what their former pitchers throw.
You know I totally trust Sori. I just want him to have a little breathing room “in case”.
LOL
Jones SUCKS. That was infinitely catchable.
Let’s get out of this with a tie.
Cap’n Obvious says “This is not looking good….AGAIN!”
How the heck can you go from good to total stink in such a short time?
another pathetic Yankees pitcher learning how to blow games from the Fat Man CC
Okay, here we go.
We’ll get more runs.
Absolutely unreal. 2 strikes and he was so concerned about the runner at 1st instead of throwing 1 more good pitch. He completely fell apart with 2 outs. Say what you want about the offense but the starting pitching has been terrible.
Well back to the bat rack we go.
I didn’t see it maybe, but did Jones give a good effort on that hit ?
“That dunker by Jennings hurt.”
Yep. Have to wonder about that one.
Kuroda got hosed on the ball three call to Fuld.
That was disappointing on so many levels.
Moore is tough and this offense scoring 3 runs is a lot for them right now. Asking them to score 1 or 2 more runs is probably impossible. Sad but probably true.
Cano will get on base
I don’t think Jones had any chance, was just saying it sucked.
Cano is swinging at garbage.
Then maybe not
“Maybe they should remove Kuroda to spark the offense.
I think the hitters have more confidence with a new pitcher in.”
A quote machine that is a gift that keeps on giving. LOL
That really was pathetic. Two outs, nobody on, two strikes on the hitter, and then all heck breaks loose.
Somebody has to teach these darn pitchers to focus just a bit.
Cano swings at more garbo then Vlad Guererro
luis, where the heck have you been ?
If we’re not going to score it would be nice to at least make Moore work a lot this inning and hopefully have him chased by the 7th.
Martin is one of the few guys that has been hitting this week. Strange but true.
The great Matt Moore with 4 runs given up
Is Curtis a FA after this season or next?
Martin should only play against lefties. I hate to say it but now Kuroda will probably give it right back.
Hey, martin has the same homeruns as montero.
“I don’t think Jones had any chance,”
Not sure, dont feel like going back to look.
But he certainly didn’t get a great jump, and he certainly gave up on it real quick. But it still may have been the best play. It also made me miss GGBG just a wee bit.
We score so that means that the Jays must have scored too because looking at the scoreboard and seeing the O’s losing really helps out the offense. LOL
Who is the guy – and what did he do with Russell Martin?
Way to go Russell! Keep it up and you’ll surely pass Grandy soon.
Have to give credit for at least this game, 4 runs against Moore is pretty good.
Now can Girardi please bring in Ichiro for defense??? Jones can’t hit so why are they willing to give up runs on his no effort defense? It really doesn’t make any sense. Just let Ichiro play LF against lefties until Jones shows a pulse.
True Yankee? or we are gettin g out of this funk?
“We score so that means that the Jays must have scored too because looking at the scoreboard and seeing the O’s losing really helps out the offense. LOL”
I know you couldn’t have thought that one up yourself because you show signs of ultra-low intelligence generally – not that there’s anything wrong with that of course! (The “LOL” is always a sure-fire sign of a peabrain.)
But yes you’re right. The Jays have taken the lead!!!
3-2!!!
That was quick.
Unbelievable.
WE SUCK!!!!!!
SOB !
its so annoying.
F*&^! when it rains it poors
Yankee pitchers just love giving runs back immediately. I hate to get on Kuroda but terrible job by him tonight.
I think the Yanks got inspired by watching Bubba’s speech
You never see the yanks comeback like the rays are tonight.
Man what a battle. I guess it’s going to take a hard fought game in which we come out ahead of at the end to turn the momentum our way again.
Wow — is Nova pitching tonight?
WHAT A JOKE
The TB Lineup is PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF, so much for Kuroda being a stopper
As goes your pitching, so goes your team.
We’ll see whose pitching outlasts the other.
Unbelievable knack the Yankee pitchers have for pissing away a lead as soon as they get it.
Come on Toronto
“Who let the dogs out” ?
He walks Lobotomy with two outs.
That walk is a sign of being tired.
trisha – true pinstriped blue September 5th, 2012 at 9:11 pm
Actually the Yankees scored to take the lead before the Jays scored but don’t let facts get in the way of making a fool of yourself.
BTW posting smiley faces takes so much more intelligence. LOL
“Unbelievable knack the Yankee pitchers have for pissing away a lead as soon as they get it.”
Always puts more pressure on the offense.
Go Jays!
I would give Kuroda 1 more batter. Unfortunately he isn’t getting the same strike zone as Moore. I hate brining in Logan because Maddon will pinch hit and bring in a righty.
Well, Martin’s HR was the Yanks 6th hit of the game, their quota in the last week or so, so don’t expect any more hits.
we have more problems getting the 8 and 9 hitters out than any team i have ever watched.
Kuroda’s pixie dust has started waring off. Get a lead, give it right back. Sucks the life outta your sails.
ROSCO P COLTRANE
Ow many 2 out runs does that give Tampa in this series?
he is throwing hard, but he has lost some command…I think this should be kuroda’s last batter
Toronto with a 4 spot
Well back to the bat rack. Yet again.
Okay, once again, we at least get out with a tie.
Jays up by 4
Yanks have to pull this win off somehow, someway. Get that 1 game lead back. Maybe it will put a little swagger back in them if they can get the lead back (in the standings)
“Toronto with a 4 spot”
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eli gets sacked for significant loss and Rays tie it up – things are coming in 2s tonight – - – - -
Anybody watch the 1st qtr want to give a quick recap?
Good thing Moore is at 97 pitches. I doubt they will let him go that much over 100 pitches.
Anybody watch the 1st qtr want to give a quick recap?
—————————-
Wilson had a pop Warner fumble while Giants were driving deep into Cowboy territory. Giants with a 4th and 1 stop in their own territory. Other then that both offenses look a bit out of sorts.
Giant O line looks absolutely putrid
Contact !
Good sign…If Jones had a hit, we are scoring
Wow. That makes Andruw 10 for his last 77. He’s on fire.
Thanks Triple
Pearce better be bunting here. Otherwise Girardi should be fired on the spot.
wow jones’ 1st hit in about 2 months
Glad the O’s are losing but if the Rays win they’re only half a game out…..Let’s win this game!
Bunt?
I still say we take this game!
Giants at the 1 after an interception!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay, Ichiro finally.
Now i would bunt
Now it’s an obvious bunt. Move 2 in scoring position for our hottest hitter.
Girardi is lucky that Pierce got a hit. Otherwise what in the world was he thinking….
What a lovely night this will be with the Yanks winning and the O’s losing.
Best way to go into Baltimore!
Keep up the good work, Yanks!
Just read the article where Hal said, “i was in the Bronx where I belong” funny how it was just mentioned here recently that he doesnt go to games and then coincidently he shows up.
“I still say we take this game!”
Been saying that all week. Got to be right sometime. LOL
Hopefully Nix can bunt here. It seems like whenever the Yanks try it they mess up.
Atta boy Nix, wait for your pitch
according to gameday that was clearly a strike. how’d it look live?
fantastic bunt
And THAT’S what I’m talking about!
Nicely done.
giants taking a page out of the yankees = suck ass
Bunt equals IBB to Jeter and Pop-up for Swish (or Grand Slam)
Wow Moore just got him at 1st base. Here comes Krazy Kyle.
Inning is lined up perfectly now. Farnsworthless in the game and the top of the order due up.
cowgirls got away with holding Cruz at the endzone
Good bunt…i think he was safe, they took ages for them to throw to first
Think they have to walk Jeter here.
“Inning is lined up perfectly now. Farnsworthless in the game and the top of the order due up.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if they pitch to Jeter here. Maddon does weird stuff and everyone knows that the Yanks struggle with guys on base.
Hammer this farmer !
Not IBB for Jeter is going to cost them. bad baseball
Maddon rolling the dice by pitching to Jeter.
No offense to farmers anywhere !
“Maddon rolling the dice by pitching to Jeter.”
YEAH PEARCE!!!!
Ha Ha !
PRESSURE!
Nice base running by both Ichiro and Pearce.
YES YES YES.
I love that call to run on contact. Make the action happen.
And Maddon looks stunned. Absolutely Priceless.
Hot damn, I loves me some small ball!
Yes!!! That’s why you have to send guys on contact. I hate when Girardi doesn’t send guys home on that and the next guy makes out anyway.
YES!!!!!!!! it isn’t pretty but i’ll take it!!
And it cost them!!
YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Told ya!
I repeat, nobody makes an announcement to tell you when a slumping offense is going to heat up. But in the meantime, you need your starting pitching to keep it low-scoring.
In this case, the offense heated up quickly enough that 4 runs wasn’t enough to hold the bats back.
what is this aggressive baserunning i see?!?!?!
Jeter is showing everyone who the captain of the team is…..
The Yanks are playing with some fire tonight!
Make ‘em make a play !
“YES YES YES.
I love that call to run on contact. Make the action happen.
And Maddon looks stunned. Absolutely Priceless.”
PRESSURE! AGAIN
Keeping the pressure on. Rays are melting down late here.
I would run on contact as well here
Indeed Maddon does weird stuff, LOL
Maddon’s defense is coming unhinged, this is what can turn a club around and get back on a roll
What are the chances that Swisher strikes out here? Very likely.
UnKnown September 5th, 2012 at 9:30 pm
YES YES YES.
I love that call to run on contact. Make the action happen.
And Maddon looks stunned. Absolutely Priceless.
====================
Price is gone ? Good ! LOL
Swish is bringing this run home!
Eh, not really Maddon’s fault, Ichiro is dead if their 2nd baseman can throw 40 feet accurately. I’ll take it though.
I can’t believe what I’m seeing….I go out for a few minutes and 6 runs! 6 runs!
come on swish…ugghhhh
But in the meantime, you need your starting pitching to keep it low-scoring.
—————————-
4 runs is low scoring????
If they win tonight it is because of the offense. Who knew you could win a game by scoring runs
Awful Swish.
Got to go…But this team is due for a hot streak…Good night
Make em pay Alex.
Big time performance by the offense tonight. They have just continued to come at the Rays no matter what the score has been.
Scored in all different sorts of ways tonight too.
big day for Jeter today…..big hit for Alex to get the O jump started…..big day for Russell Martin!
Swisher is really killing them now batting 2nd. Jeter has been on fire and Swish strikes out in every at bat. Every pitcher just throws an off speed pitch and it’s an easy out.
When the pressure is on you can’t find swisher.
Well, at least he hit it hard.
Benny Blanco September 5th, 2012 at 9:34 pm
When the pressure is on you can’t find swisher.
================================
Unfortunately very true
Alex is finding it a little bit….that’s really good news if its for real.
and the Jays are up 6-2!
Missed a good opportunity to get another run.
I don’t see sWishers. CLutch ness changing come playoff time.
Wow, sock puppet pulled out a good post of mine.
“Cashman pulled himself together a multidimensional team. Kudos to him. The players finally realized that runs have to be scored in a variety of ways. And they apparently have the horses to do it. Kudos to them on every level”
Little did he know that the post would come back to bite him!
wow toronto actually winning a game against a team not named yankees
The big question is who pitches the 7th inning? Definitely not Kuroda he looked finished and I hope Girardi doesn’t bring in Logan because Maddon will pinch hit for all of his scrubs.
The Yanks HAVE to make this lead stick….HAVE to
Another strong start by Morrow – suicide squeeze by Hech – reliable Oliver on with Jansen unfortunately well rested hopefully to close – holding 4 run margin – double play started by Hech – onto the ninth
Yes very disappointing AB by Swisher….little fly ball there gives you a 3 run lead.
Great move by Joe to pinch run Ichiro there…..if he doesn’t do that they may not score that inning.
Maddon is going to out smart Girardi here with his pinch hitters. Girardi never ever learns. You don’t pinch hit for all stars but Maddon will pinch hit for anyone not named Longoria.
Jeter is my MVP. He’s the main reason we are in first place. The most game-changing single player in the game this year
Please not Boonie. He’s been just dreadful for ages. 5.60 ERA since July 1. Stupid, stupid move from the Binder.
Lol @ the illusory superiority. I just dont see how a few runs means the bats are out of a slump and theres nothing to be concerned about. Its one game jeez, how many times has this team had a blowout game and then bothing for weeks? Or am i missing something?
“And Maddon looks stunned. Absolutely Priceless.
====================
Price is gone ? Good ! LOL”
4 NYY – I like that play on words. Very smart comment but, (The “LOL” is always a sure-fire sign of a peabrain.)
Says the smartest person on the board. LOL LOL LOL
“4 runs is low scoring????”
Drac, it appears you missed this part of the post.
“In this case, the offense heated up quickly enough that 4 runs wasn’t enough to hold the bats back”
In your efforts to jump out of your coffin too quickly, you tripped yourself up.
Now go lie down please!
the giants offense is actually crappier than the yankees. unbelievable
“Price is gone ? Good ! LOL”
4 NYY – I like that play on words. Very smart comment but, (The “LOL” is always a sure-fire sign of a peabrain.)
nice 4-pitch walk there to bring up the tying run
Boonie stinks. He’s gonna blow this game unless the Binder gets him out of there soon.
how do you walk a guy on 4 pitches after being so good the hitter before Boonie?
Trisha,
On what planet does 4 runs constitute a low scoring game?
Martin almost as productive as A-Rod with less AB’s and barely over .200 avg.
This is where the Joba from last night would come in handy….you just don’t know if that’s who you’d get…..
Did Girardi really think that Maddon wasn’t going to pinch hit for his scrub lefties? I am really tired of Girardi continuing to make the same stupid mistakes time after time. You can’t have Logan facing righties in the 7th inning of a game that you have to win.
Come on Boone!!!
Nice K, Boonie.
Robertson now. Good move Joe. Well played.
gas!
The class wants to know : WHY R U HERE ?
Hi jmills! How are you? Good to see you around and winning, LOL
“Trisha,
On what planet does 4 runs constitute a low scoring game?”
It doesn’t. My point was that until a cold offense heats up, you need your pitching to keep the score low. Luckily, the offense heated up quickly tonight. Before tonight, and for a while, 4 runs felt pretty insurmountable.
I was talking to scouts before the game and they really like the Nationals talent…./ Lou Piniella…Adding to the insight one can gleam only from a fortune cookie in Alabama..
She is still believing that Darnell McDonald is going to hit a HR for us next inning. Because boy oh boy he is really an impact player that everyone is going to love. LOL
That pitch was right down the middle. Robertson has to start locating his pitches. He didn’t locate at all on Monday.
Soriano hasn’t pitched since Saturday? If it gets to him, it could be a long 9th.
JMV – fine, thanks – hope the Yanks win so that MTU will feel like bringing more pics to the table
Whew…gotta love the Captain!
THE CAPTAIN!!!!
Please to come up lame
Jeter again….he’s kinda good.
And there is Superman to save the day once again. Jeter best player of all time.
Get a life please. Socialize some its good for you deary.
El Capitan. Shows Robbie how to stretch for a ball.
Wow, nice save there by Jeter. I didn’t think he was going to get to that.
Nice catch by Jeter. The Rays are getting a lot of bloop hits tonight.
“She is still believing that Darnell McDonald is going to hit a HR for us next inning. Because boy oh boy he is really an impact player that everyone is going to love. LOL”
I really wonder why Robertson has seemed to abandon his curve lately. It used to be such a great pitch for him.
LOL !
Robertson is now a liability. And the Captain is hurt. Ugh.
this the crap fans got to deal with when your number 3 guy in the bullpen is Doomed Logan! owners too freaking cheap to get a real lefty after rivera went down
From Elias: Since 1994, the first year of the six-division format, only two other teams relinquished sole possession of first place in their division at any time during a season in which they led their division by at least 10 games. The 1995 Angels led the A.L. West by as many as 11 games as late as August 9 only to see their lead vanish by September 20. The Angels lost a one-game playoff to the Mariners for the A.L. West title. The 2006 Tigers led the A.L. Central by 10 games through games of August 7, but by September 28 they were tied for first place with the Twins and settled for the Wild Card and an eventual World Series loss to the Cardinals.
Ball game!!!
Maybe Granderson should get his eyes checked. All he does is swing and miss now.
wow the crappy jays actually beat baltimore
Orioles lose!
6 more outs Boys, Girls, and Things. Just 6 more outs and I feel a lot better about the season. Back alone in first place and everything.
“That Idiot Girardi is batting Martin fifth”.
Any of you want to retract all your viperous comments. Martin did pretty good so maybe Girardi knows baseball? You know “man up”.
Just saying
Why did Martin yell HA!
Orioles are going to go on a 5 game losing streak but just don’t know it yet.
“6 more outs Boys, Girls, and Things. Just 6 more outs and I feel a lot better about the season. Back alone in first place and everything.”
Because it’s all about you of course!
WMD,….yup, we did
perfect little cutter there…..Mariano style
“Because it’s all about you of course!”
LOL!! Yes, how I feel is all about me. Of course it is.
Troll harder next time. Don’t worry you can do it little buddy just keep trying I know you got it in you.
we’re still in 1st
Come on Robertson!!
Excellent job by DRob!
BOOM. And that inning makes me, myself, and I feel GREAT!!
backbench September 5th, 2012 at 9:50 pm
Robertson is now a liability. And the Captain is hurt. Ugh.
Wrong on both counts.
It’s not that I don’t have faith in Sori (because I do), but some insurance runs sure would reduce my stress level for the bottom of the 9th.
Good job by Robertson. Hopefully Soriano has command in the 9th. He hasn’t pitched in a couple of days and that usually isn’t good news for him.
That’s the DRob we love
“Troll harder next time. Don’t worry you can do it little buddy just keep trying I know you got it in you.”
I don’t troll those with limited intelligence. But I will respond in-kind to your trolling and stupidity, PB.
4 NYY – shoot me an email when you get a shot!
Thanks.
why don’t the Rays trade this guy somewhere where he can start? They are wasting him….
Chavez was thinking nothing but homerun there. Almost as obvious as Gary Sheffield.
“It’s not that I don’t have faith in Sori (because I do), but some insurance runs sure would reduce my stress level for the bottom of the 9th.”
If we can hold it right here, I feel good about Sori coming in. Just because I have a pitcher-in-former-park bugaboo, I prefer two runs to one!
Why should it be surprising to Kay that the team with the most Ks in the majors would strike out a lot of Yanks?
That was dumb by Maddon to burn Upton in that spot last inning. Now all he has left on the bench is Pena to try come up with a clutch bomb.
Some of the Rays pitchers are making it look easy. Let’s go Soriano!!!
Wade Davis is unreal out of the pen….but they should trade him for a bat if they aren’t going to start him.
The Rays are just knee deeper in pitching, both McGee and Davis from each side, mid nineties plus breaking pitches. Davis just threw a ninety mph slider. Amazing.
it’s on Soriano now…..2 run lead….gotta lock this one down….
Rays have a great bullpen every year it seems with different guys.
And that’s setup pitchers, repeat, Amazing.
GO SORI!!!!!
Pena makes me nervous because it seems like he saves all of his homeruns for the Yanks. But strikes outs against everyone else.
“The Rays are just knee deeper in pitching, ”
they just churn them out….Cobb wasn’t even supposed to be that good I didn’t think and here he is sinking and change uping his way through lineups ……
There’s one.
Girardi managed brilliantly..and if you can’t ait that or don’t understand that I suggest a vegan lunch with Chris Carlin…
It’s funny watching Arod catch pop ups. He is always laughing right after he catches the ball.
even if yanks win tonight they’ll only be 2-7 in the trop this year. nice way to take control of your division
Arod always has a sheepish grin on his face when he catches one of those crazy-type pop-ups. He always seems to look over at Jete and grin!
Admit that…..(ooops)
Matthew Leach ?@MatthewHLeach
Jeter: 182 hits. Most for a SS in his age-38 (or later) season in history. (min: 70% of games at SS) (apologies if someone beat me to that)
Two!
Arod really showed some positive signs tonight offensively….now they have to figure out what the heck is up with Granderson…..Grandy is seriously missing pitches by feet not inches.
This is a game you just have to have fighting for your life in the month of September. No way that you can let this one slip away now.
No shooting arrows tonight. Just untucking of jerserys.
Yes!!! That is a big win.
It starts tonight!!!!
A win! 1 game lead!
untuck!!!! finally
HOW SWEET IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY HERO, SORI!!!!
Good on ya Yanks!!!!!
GOT IT. YES BABY!
Back in first all by ourselves.
Why are they blaming the economy for no one coming to the Rays games? It’s been like that for years.
It was a matter of time, right kids?
We just didn’t know the exact time.
Team Optimism – 1; Team Pessimism – 0
they just churn them out….Cobb wasn’t even supposed to be that good I didn’t think and here he is sinking and change uping his way through lineups ……
People were kvetching that Cashman was copying Tampa. I would say “Smart man”.
Tampa is a pitching factory.
When someone tells you that intangibles don’t matter, you show then Jeter’s performance in this game.
“People were kvetching that Cashman was copying Tampa. I would say “Smart man”.
Tampa is a pitching factory.”
Absolutely I also. Why would they want to trade it away? Look where it’s gotten them!
trisha-
it cracks me up how you try to co-opt every yankee victory to be your very own.
“trisha-
it cracks me up how you try to co-opt every yankee victory to be your very own.”
exactly how do I do that randy? And were you here before as “shook ones”? It definitely had your hand-print.
As someone who doesn’t have the energy to hold grudges, I have to ask you sincerely what in you motivates you to continue with your nastiness day in and day out, once you’ve decided that someone hits you the wrong way? Is it something inside you that automatically causes it to happen? Because I would think it would be work to hold onto that kind of negativity. Maybe it energizes you to take shots all the time? What exactly is it?
By the way, I’ve never found this team “uninteresting” so maybe you mistake myt exuberance at their wins as co-opting every victory to be my own.
A few nights ago, someone posted something about pessimists/realists 1 – optimists 0. That’s the reason I posted about optimists and pessimists tonight. It was a takeoff on that, nothing else.
I don’t understand people who hate. And I don’t understand people who can carry on juvenile nastiness toward people they’ve never met, over something like baseball differences. That’s why I don’t bother trolling anybody’s posts. Even if I disagree with them, there’s nothing that motivates me to stalk everything they post.
With you and one or two others, I find myself in a position to always having to be fending off constant juvenile shots. I truly don’t understand people like you.
