For the third time this week, the Yankees have lost sole possession of first place in the American League East. CC Sabathia blew an early lead and coughed up three home runs in a 5-4 loss to the Orioles, setting up an all-important showdown in tomorrow’s series finale. Sabathia has now blown a lead in three straight starts. He’s also reached a single-season career high with 21 home runs allowed. All three of tonight’s Baltimore home runs were solo shots, including Mark Reynolds’ ninth home run in his past nine games. Seven of those home runs have come against the Yankees. The Yankees scored a run in the first inning and another in the second, but the Orioles scored five unanswered before Alex Rodriguez homered in the eighth. Curtis Granderson left four runners on base in his only two at-bats of the night, two of them in the sixth and two more in the eighth. The Yankees loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but the Orioles improved to 62-0 when leading after seven innings this season. Mark Teixeira ended the game with a double play.
