David Price P
TV/Radio: YES/WCBS 880
Umpires: Scott Barry HP, Gary Darling 1B, Paul Emmel 2B, Jerry Meals 3B
Weather: Mostly cloudy
Vs. the East: The Yankees are 7-9 so far in this stretch of 22 straight games against the AL East.
Slow starters: The Yankees have dropped five straight series openers and six of the last seven.
Price vs. Sabathia: The Rays have won six of seven games when these two have started against each other. Price is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in those games. Sabathia has won just three of his 17 starts vs. Tampa Bay since joining the Yankees, going 3-7 with a 3.57 ERA.
Update, 7:22: Sabathia gets out of a first-and-third, two-out jam. It didn’t look like he had his good velocity again.
Update, 7:36: Cano ends a threat with a double-play ball, now 10 for his last 43.
Update, 7:47: Sabathia 1-2-3 second, and now Martin has the Yankees’ first hit off Price.
Update, 7:54: Yankees up 1-0 on Steve Pearce RBI single with two outs in the second. Yankees had been 2 for their last 35 with runners in scoring position.
Update, 8:00: Another 1-2-3 inning for Sabathia, looks like he has good off-speed stuff tonight.
Update, 8:17: Sabathia hits Longoria in the foot, then retires three straight. So he’s allowed one hit through four.
Update, 8:24: Andruw Jones pops out to end a 1-2-3 fourth. Now 0 for 2 tonight and 4 for his last 25. Price has allowed just two hits through four, both in the second.
Update, 8:34: Velocity can be negated by bad location: leadoff double by Gimenez on a 94 mph Sabathia fastball up over the plate, wild pitch, walk, RBI single by Johnson on a 93 mph fastball, RBI single by Jennings on a 93 mph fastball, 2-1 Rays in the fifth. Eppley warming.
Update, 8:43: Sabathia gets a big bases-loaded, no-out double-play ball out of Longoria, but it’s 3-1, heading for the last of the fifth. Could’ve been much worse.
Update, 8:48: Granderson hits one off the top of the fence and out into the Yankees’ pen, HR No. 38, 3-2.
Update, 8:59: Jeter passes Willie Mays, now sole possession of 10th on the all-time hits list with 3,284. First and second, two outs.
Update, 9:01: Johnson robs A-Rod of an RBI single with a diving stop, side retired.
Update, 9:08: 1-2-3 for Sabathia in the sixth.
Update, 9:15: Price was looking tough again in the sixth, 1-2-3 inning. If he holds on, he will be 18-5 in his Cy Young bid. He missed his previous start with a shoulder issue.
Update, 9:22: Sabathia is done after an RBI single by Zobrist, four runs, six hits so far, two outs in the seventh, Eppley gets the ball. It’s 4-2.
Update, 9:33: Price 1-2-3 seventh, but I believe he’s at 105 pitches.
Update, 9:37: Homer No. 23 for Upton, 5-2.
Update, 9:48: Price is done. Joel Peralta will come on for the eighth.
Update, 9:57: Long two-run HR to left for A-Rod, 5-4.
Update, 10:10: Granderson strands runners at first and second with two outs against Rodney. Chamberlain on for the ninth.
Update, 10:24: Will Jeter return to short tomorrow? Nunez error on two-out grounder makes it 6-4. Can’t hide his glove anywhere.
Update, 10:33: Yankees lose 6-4.

Let’S Go Yankees!!!!!
No wins in mi casa. Let’s go.
CC is going to come up BIG!!!!
Rays scored 6 total runs in their past 3 games against the O’s. No excuse for our pitchers.
Hey guys!
GO CC!!!
GO YANKS!!!
GO A’S!!!
GO JAYS!!!
Be back in a few.
Go, Yanks. Whoever is out there has to do his job, especially C.C. Have to for out for a while, back by the fifth, and I hope the score is 5-1 Yanks.
See ya later.
jacksquat -
As goes our pitching…
Lets go Yankees!!!
Lets go CC !!!
Man up and take charge!!!!
See you soon Tom and Trish.
Time to bury the Tampa Bay Thick Glasses.
Damn where was that
Nice play Alex.
Good D is going to be very important down the stretch.
CC wasn’t fooling Zobrist.
Nice breaking ball
My new all time consecutive post record of 5
Kay & Flaherty—-UghhhhLy
Move him off the plate!!!
Won’t get to watch or be here for long. G-son’s game to go to.
I don’t care who pitches well, and who doesn’t…..
I don’t care who hits well and who doesn’t…..
I don’t care who makes an error and who doesn’t….
I don’t care if G-man manages well or not….
I don’t care if a coach screws up a runner or doesn’t…..
ALL I WANT IS A “W” at the end of the game !
“Kay & Flaherty—-UghhhhLy”
I know as much as I like Cone and Leiter—- I dislike these two.
jackamir September 14th, 2012 at 7:15 pm
Kay & Flaherty—-UghhhhLy
——————–
Flash is the worst
I’m probably one of the few ppl that doesn’t mind Kay.
Damn it.
And he was out!!!
Damn, he was out. Very close though.
The umping in MLB is getting to be a joke. It’s embarrassing.
And Girardi just stays in the dugout. Nice.
Sigh. Need CC to pick up the team here. Ace’s burden.
Hey theres Cone. Didn’t realize he was working
Nice job by CC getting tough there & good solid play by Nunez.
Kind of messy; lots of pitches; but at least CC didn’t give up any runs.
OK a lot of pitches but he can make that up.
I really think CC needs to have an attitude and establish the inner half as belonging to him tonight.
“The umping in MLB is getting to be a joke. It’s embarrassing. ”
Getting to be a joke? Don’t start me on one of my “favorites” topics. GRRR!!!
****************
Didn’t catch CC’s inning. Anyone want to give me the cliff note version of what you saw?
I can deal with Kay, Flash is very annoying to me. Cone makes everyone else listenable. Come on Jeet.!!!
Trisha,
Haha! Sorry about that. It’s a sore spot for me also.
To answer your question, CC looked alright. Made a couple mistakes to Upton but other than that he looked OK. Still not CC-esque as far his sharpness and velocity, but not too bad.
Price is tough. We have to take advantage of any opportunity with RISP & CC has to hold them down. Brilliant trite cliche statement but it is true.
Thanks kev!
Trish
Zobrist lined a single and was on everything CC threw. Nobody else was though. He struck out Upton but Martin had a pass ball that the ump missed a close call at 1b. It cost CC a few more pitches but no damage.
Actually Trish, Upton had a loud long foul ball. Hit it a mile but foul
Good chance here to get to Price, who looks uncomfortable.
The O’s killed the Rays the first night but the next two games were 3-2 games. I agree we need to make hay with any scoring opportunities because they might be like hen’s teeth, especially with Price.
Time to do damag
Thanks Tar!!!
Oh dear.
Ugh.
There’s the great Robinson doing his thing.
Cano swinging defensively against Price.
Having said oh dear, we are all sharp baseball fans and as such know we don’t despair in the first inning, right? Right?
Hit it hard, oh well. I’m expecting a great game from CC
cano coming up small already
‘Hit it hard, oh well. I’m expecting a great game from CC”
Hear hear!
Once again, real good hitting with RISP
It seems like 90% of the time when they have guys on base and less than 2 outs it’s a DP.
What a SHOCKER….we have 1 out, with 2 on….and one of our “best” hitters ends the inning by hitting into a DP ? Really ? Like that is SO FRICKING RARE !
Hurry back Teix—We need you!!!!!
4 NYY September 14th, 2012 at 7:17 pm
Best post I’ve seen so far, including my own of course!
unable to watch; did Cano hit it hard?
whereas Cano’s 908 OPS & stats (other than RBI) are fine, it is not a coincidence that his season high OPS of 969 came during the Toronto series immediately prior to the sweep in Oakland (and subsequent FUNK which we’re trying to shake still)
as he goes, the offense goes; he is maddening at times
The least we could do is work this guy’s pitch count and try to have him outta the game by the 6th
“What a SHOCKER….we have 1 out, with 2 on….and one of our “best” hitters ends the inning by hitting into a DP ? Really ? Like that is SO FRICKING RARE !”
I know it’s ben frustrating, but Price is a tough pitcher especially against a LH bat. Cano hit it hard, but right at the SS. Take the victory of making Price throw a lot of pitches.
We’re lucky CC is a workhorse because longer counts aren’t as detrimental to him as they would be to less of a workhorse-type pitcher.
Is it just me, or does CC’s delivery look a bit off/weird tonight?
Eh, Cano didn’t really hit it very hard. But they got base runners which is a plus- just keep getting guys on and eventually, maybe they’ll be able to bring a few in.
Price threw 24 pitches in the first, ill take that.
Good job CC!!!
Good job CC
I cant wait to see Jonesy and Pearcy hit.
Sure would be nice to win the first game of a series since Cleveland, 28 days ago!
That was Russell Martin. No need to ask why he’s batting 5th!
Martin could be a better hitter….he has the tools.
Good job by “Much Maligned Martin.”
“I cant wait to see Jonesy and Pearcy hit.”
Jones’ sac fly brought in one or the two runs from yesterday’s game. He also walked.
“Eh, Cano didn’t really hit it very hard.”
Just went back and looked, solid contact, b ut not real hard.
One thing I noticed is Price doesn’t always come to a complete stop. If I was Giradi i would complain to the ump. That is very close to a balk.
Too bad Jones doesn’t have more speed or he beats that out.
Bonus!! Pierce!!!
Pearcey!!
Note to Grandy: Russell is only 23 points behind and is closing fast.
“I cant wait to see Jonesy and Pearcy hit.”
Guess your excitement was rewarded…
Pierce gets a hit. Amazing….
steve pearce = true yankee
A hit with RISP! I knew Pearcy could do it!
Granderson is just overmatched against the Rays pitchers.
Nice job by Pearce to go the other way
Pearce comes through.
blake, either I wasn’t paying close enough attention in the past, or you have turned into a neophyte b*tcher! The * does not stand for the letter “u” by the way.
pierce is fierce.. LOL
“Granderson is just overmatched against the Rays pitchers.”
Trader
At least he didn’t K.
Actually I thought he had a decent AB. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets to Price tonight.
Trisha,
Youre right….you haven’t been paying close enough attention.
Pearce is a real Yankee now.
Let’s see how long Fat Boy can hold it this time.
Pearce I can tolerate at this point. I think he was over trying at first, he’s looking better recently. Jones, I am less optimistic about and think he is pretty close to being washed up.
Price 40 pitches, CC 38 thru 2
Shut them down, CC. Please
GORGEOUS play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Let’s see how long Fat Boy can hold it this time.”
Niblick
Unnecessary. Come on man try positive for once.
Nunez has looked good on D since his call up. I like it.
NUNIE–Hang a star on that one…
zobrist was on CC in the first, have to to do better this time.
Wow, great throw by Nuney!
“Niblick
Unnecessary. Come on man try positive for once.”
QFT!
Nunez!
FANTASTIC!!!!
Nice!!! Nunie
NUNEY..unleashed!
Nunez has learned his craft well.
x2!!!
I like Eduardo Nunez much better than Eduardo Scissorhands
Good inning CC.
Would it be completely impossible to get Nunez to play 3B acceptably?
“I like Eduardo Nunez much better than Eduardo Scissorhands”
jackamir September 14th, 2012 at 7:59 pm
NUNIE–Hang a star on that one
—————————————————-
Ditto
Don’t overlook the two good scoops by Pearce…
Nunez is a major leaguer. End of story. He should not be in the minors again for the next few seasons for whatever organization he’s with. I don’t know if he is an every day guy or not, but he’s a pro.
Those both would have more than likely have been hits if jeter were at short. Nunez obviously with much more ranger… and how about that arm? Very nice to see.
Looks like Eddie got the memo about working on his footwork……Real nice Eddie
CC!!!
So far, so glorious!
Pitching and defense. Gotta love it.
Nunie 2x!
Pat M and YF
We have a good crew here tonight.
Tar-
Maybe Granderson will break out vs the Rays this weekend. However look at his stats vs the Rays overall and at Tropicana this year:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/.....granderson
Take another one
At least Jete has been so good this season no one complains when he grounds to short on the first pitch anymore lol
too late.
“Don’t overlook the two good scoops by Pearce…”
Very good point. As much as Swisher does an adequate job at first, I’d much rather see him in right.
Trader
I will take your word for it
All I know is he had a good cut against Price, and that’s a start.
I know we’re supposed to talk baseball but I feel like this needs to be asked: You can put mac and cheese on a burger at Dennys???
I don’t think the first throw hit the dirt, not sure about the second.
Man even Paul Simon can’t get a front row seat at the Stadium lol…
The team is going to face a number of lefties this weekend thru next weekend. Hopefully we’ll see more of Nunez and a quick return to health of Tex.
I bet the guys in the truck loved Kay pointing out their mistake lol!
Good crew here this evening… It’s relaxing when there is no backstabbing….
Sax, Mattingly, Bernie, Jeter, Alex ( ? ) ,Boggs ……200 hit club
Crazy as it sounds, nunie is sorta untouchable right now…we just don’t have anyone else like him yet
Tar…….Watch out for UCLA when hoops season rolls around …..Not so far off
Good.
Upton there are little kids at the game!!
Roberto Kelly 200 hits……GB, we need you buddy !!!!!!
Can you imagine if this game ended up 1-0 and CC got the win?
While that may not happen, imagine if we got two amazing SP performances in a row? I’d rather have the SP get things straight and count on the offense to pull it together in a few more games – not that I don’t want any runs. But I want the SP to realize it can keep the other side from scoring and not feel they can rely on offense bailing them out!
Pat M. September 14th, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Tar…….Watch out for UCLA when hoops season rolls around …..Not so far off
——————————————————————————————
Watch UNLV…. They are solid
“Watch out for UCLA when hoops season rolls around …..Not so far off”
Will do Pat. I have paid no attention to hoops yet. Actually there has been more Duke chatter around here than anything else. But you are right, it’s right around the corner.
C!!!!
Hey Tar!
CC…….The Big Dog barks…….jackamir, I agree about the Running Rebels….That program is back
Good inning, CC.
We’re going to score this inning
Tar……Duke will be investigated by the NCAA real soon
Hi YF.
It’s great to watch a game with you.
man Robbie is just missing these pitches
Robbie has such amazing power.
Bats breakin’ all over this mo’ fo..

“Duke will be investigated by the NCAA real soon”
Pat M
I heard that too.
UNC has been through the wringer lately, so I can’t say i am to upset about that.
Are we reliving the missed call at first from the O’s series??? I honest to god think the YES production team has been intentionally trying to get the fan base irate for the last two weeks.
get in to one Jonesy
C’mon Andruw…
“Duke will be investigated by the NCAA real soon”
recruiting too many floppers?
You can still see where Madonna’s stage effed up the OF lol.
Maddon not wearing very stylish glasses tonight.
Price is really good…he’s a guy I’m ok tipping my hat to
Price is a PITCH-UH!
But then so is CC!!!
Ugly. Very ugly.
Shame Spencer September 14th, 2012 at 8:23 pm
C’mon Andruw…
———————-
Sigh.. this is why I don’t post these things on the blog lol, I have a deep fear of jinxes and whenever I post that I think a guy is going to get a hit, it’s inevitable I’ve caused the jinx to take effect. I keep my positive thoughts to myself for the betterment of this team.
“Price is really good…he’s a guy I’m ok tipping my hat to”
Ayeuh!
“recruiting too many floppers?”
Haha. You’re on your game tonight Blake.
Lance Thomas and Jewelry of all, things.
“Ugly. Very ugly.”
Usually is when top-notch pitchers pitch.
thanks for jinxing us Flash….
Bear down CC!!!
Late arrival.
Let it be noted, there is a run – JIS.
Tar,
what did Thomas do?
2-2 pitch was the where he should have went after him.
And what was that stupid gesture at second?
“thanks for jinxing us Flash….”
Have had the sound off for a while because I’m on the phone but am watching…
Come on Martin…
blake September 14th, 2012 at 8:28 pm
thanks for jinxing us Flash….
————-
Not everyone respects the jinx… #Fail
Some magic needed here.
GO TEAM!
that’s a pretty good pitch.
Come on CC, bare down on this guy, punch him out and we’ll get the duece
can’t walk Pena because you’re afraid he might hit a homer on a fastball…..
Inning is starting to unravel…
They were afraid to throw Pena a fastball just because he hit a homer earlier in the year? come on…..he can’t hit lefties at all….
1 run in 4 innings isn’t bad. But here’s where it has to stop.
CC held it for two whole innings. Somebody hand him a Twinkie and tell him to take the rest of the night off.
ahhh here is our ace we’ve come to depend on
where was Nunez playing there?
Here come the trolls….
Okay CC – STOP ‘EM HERE!
This has the makings of an ugly inning all started by the bottom of their lineup
Hand him another Twinkie. Heck, give him the whole box at this point.
Well low scoring Rays doing it to “our” ACE….
Crap. Come on CC!!
Blake
He purchased almost 100K worth of jewelry with a 30k down payment. The company is suing for the remainder. The question is where did he get 30k, and why did they give a college student that kind of credit. It’s out there on google and big news down here.
Epply to relieve our Ace in the 5th inning? This is rediculous. He needs to bare down and shut them down for another 2 innings.
This game is over.
thanks ace. not to be outdone by the dead sox yankees have their own version of josh beckett in this year’s collapse
Not trolls – just Yankee fans disgusted with the overweight, overpaid Ace.
CC hasn’t melted yet, we need more runs. Period. Same old story.
Boooooooooooooooooo
“Here come the trolls….”
It’s amazing isn’t it. One sign of trouble and they scurry in.
“He purchased almost 100K worth of jewelry with a 30k down payment. The company is suing for the remainder. The question is where did he get 30k, and why did they give a college student that kind of credit.”
overpayment to the referees
Where is this professional opposite field hitting by the Rays against anyone else??? If they desired to do so all the time, they might not be such an awful offensive team.
good grief Martin….that’s 3 tonight.
Cmon Russell!
Martin is terrible, what is Cervalli on the bench for
Somebody wake up the Binder.
there is no way Sabathia isn’t hurt.
That’s the way to put the game out of reach.
You do not take out CC here.
CC just can’t command anything….can’t put pitches where he wants them.
This inning is entirely on 2 catchers. Loser Crhis Gimenez with a double and Russ allowing 2 wild pitches.
what the hell is going on???
Boooooooooooooo
Straw – you had it right.
BS Ace, take him out
CC is a disgrace to his too big even for him uniform.
COme on turn two 1-2-3
one of the best pitches he’s thrown tonight right there….he needs that CU
Nice play Alex.
Alex probably could have got the out at home there but I think that’s a good decision….he may have saved a big inning hopefully.
Could’ve been far worse.
“This inning is entirely on 2 catchers. Loser Crhis Gimenez with a double and Russ allowing 2 wild pitches.”
“BS Ace, take him out”
If Martin allowed 2 WP, hard to put that on CC.
All things considered, it could have been a lot worse.
Okay offense, time to bail him out. Wish it could have been otherwise, but it is what it is.
Ok. Time for the offense to get busy
Look at this. Upton going to the opposite field. Are our hitters taking note?
Cc is not a real ace
Madden loves out coaching Girardi
Why does a two run deficit feel like ten?
That inning could have been worse. Time for the offense to do their own damage.
limited the damage at least….good play by Alex….could argue he should have come home but then you have 1 out and the bases loaded and they still likely score at least 1 run….what he did gave them a better chance at limiting the damage…..Alex is a really smart player.
The sleeping giant finally woke up, but a little too late.
I didnt call CC a BS ace, you wicket witch of the East, trisha!
Arod made the right play under usual circumstances 5 th inning 2-1 down. Getting 2 runs shouldnt be insurmountable but it feels that way.
CC looked a lot better than he had the past several games.
I don’t think he ever completely healed, but I can’t know for sure.
Lets see a crooked number…..Plenty of game left….
Got back just now, and didn’t find what I wanted. The blog is now infested, again. But then, it was last night, too.
Let’s go Yankees!
You might turn 2 going home, with Longoria running but it’s two tough throws
That’s one….
Told ya Trader.
Bail fake ace out
HARDEE HAR HAR HAR!!!
GRANDY!!!!!
Wish I had said it, but when someone said a two-run deficit felt like 10, my first thought was that it didn’t feel that way to me at all.
This offense is going to come through.
Tar-
That is what might get Granderson going. Tip in by Lofton
CC didnt get any calls last inning.
That 1-0 pitch to Steve was a ball.
Tom
It’s been great. A little bit of trouble from CC that last inning and they scurried in here.
CC has to be hurt. No excuse for walking Pena who can’t hit lefties and giving up hits to a bunch of .200 hitters. His command is awful and his stuff is really average. I knew that all of his innings pitched would catch up to him eventually. If he gets into trouble in the 6th Joey binder has to pull him.
CC didnt walk Pena. The HP umpire walked Pena.
“I didnt call CC a BS ace, you wicket witch of the East, trisha!
”
I didn’t say you did. I quoted your post to disprove the 2nd post!
And by the way, are you implying that I play croquet in my spare time?
Jerry Meals thats payback for last week!!!
Meals….Pay back for the bs call on Texeria the other night
Meals again! You suck!
Trader
I saw in his first AB that he had a good read and swing against Price. lately he’s been real hot or cold. Last night cold. But I see a little more hot lately, so thats encouraging.
Tricia…..Glinda
“Lets see a crooked number…..Plenty of game left….”
QFT jackamir!!!
You can always feel when this offense is going to break through.
Next time they need to hit Meals in the head.
Steal something!!! (preferably a base, but I’m not picky..)
Payback? Nunez would be in scoring position if meals didnt stop it.
Well that gets Meals back for that call in Baltimore.
Yeah Girardi keep playing Jones over Nunez. How stupid.
Pat M – you are a sweetheart.
I think Boss was funning though.
He doesn’t stop completely. Balk!!
This little rally makes CC’s crappy pitching hurt even more.
I was joking. Hence the
Grandy!
man Jerry Meals is killin us….
Cone is right on top of all that’s going on. He is really an asset in the booth. Game within a game….
YES!!
STANDING OVATION.
JUST AMAZING AND SOME HAPPY TEARS FOR OUR CAPTAIN!
Congrats Jete!
Mays is a class act.
Go Jeet!!!! My Hero!!!!
Nice. Too bad Swisher is up because they really need to take advantage of this situation.
Der-ek Jet-ah!
jackamir September 14th, 2012 at 8:57 pm
Cone is right on top of all that’s going on. He is really an asset in the booth. Game within a game….
——————-
I find myself constantly wondering if Cone and Leiter get paid the same amount as O’neill lol
Game should be tied right now. Thanks for nothing, Meals.
Game should be tied, if not for Meals.
Tar, a belated right back at ya!
Swisher is killing them again. I don’t know why he is swinging at the 1st damn pitch. Jeter is on base all of the time and Swish is leaving 1 million guys on base.
man I thought Swisher got that off the bat..
Swish did just miss it
Come on Alex!!!
Great moment for Jeter. He’s the player of this generation.
Swish is the antithesis.
Alex — worth every penny
Grrrrr
Of course AAA Johnson makes the play. Look a .200 hitter dives for the ball.
I didn’t think he was gonna get that…..ugh
ARRGH. Two good defensive plays and freaking MEALS!
That was an opposite field base hit, and of all people, Eliot Johnson saves a run. Cano doesnt save that run, but Eliot Johnson does. What kind of world do we live in??
Meals cost us a run!
Should have been a double from Nunez. I hate Jerry Meals more than ever.
“Cano doesnt save that run, but Eliot Johnson does. ”
You don’t watch many Yankee games do you? Are you a Padre’s fan?
Hopefully Cano took notes.
Swished just missed it
sadly its the same story again and again!
Ive never seen Cano dive like that.. Not saying he doesnt do it just saying ive never seen him.
Stupid Meals
Alex still has a cannon for an arm.
Swisher’s fly out is a sac fly if Meals gets his ugly butt out of the way
Pearce has played some good 1B tonight.
Tar, I watch every game. I could possibly be Teary Francona. And I just saw recently Cano fail to dive for a ball (which allowed the winning run to score) similar to the Eliot Johnson play last half inning.
Here’s a hint. Cano doesn’t dive for that because he gets to it standing up then fires across his body.
It’s a given that CC will allow at least 3 runs every outing. Anyone thinking otherwise hasn’t watched him the past few months.
“This little rally makes CC’s crappy pitching hurt even more.”
Questions to any of the well-equilibrated posters here (you know who you are, don’t be modest!)
1. Were those passed balls or wild pitches? (unfortunately I was distracted with a phone call and was watching but didn’t have the sound on)
2. If they were passed balls, did they end up making a difference in the ultimate scoring?
Cano doesnt get to that ball. You’re dreaming. His route-taking to balls is awful, as is his UZR
James Shields: Amish, Out of Order
Why Fartardi keeps Swisher behind Jetes i have no idea. I wonder how many times as a kid Joe had to put his hand on a burning stove before he realized it was hot! Im gonna guess 47 times.
Nunie! his feet look much better….much softer….he’s fielding more in rhythm
Excuse me, his UZR is awful every year except this year.
Everytime the ball is hit to Nunez I get nervous. But he has done a good job and his feet are planted better. Their best lineup is him DHing.
Fartardi? Thats a reach, I think my little nephew can do better than that.
CR
Ignore the 800 plays he does make and focus on the one fluke that he doesn’t? You are a smarter fan than that.
CC is a workhorse. He doesn’t give up. I admire that in him. He goes right back out and digs in.
I think there was one of each, but Martin really should have stopped them both. And they cost the Yanks.
And the ump jerry mearls may have just cost us a run.. If he was on 2b .. Jetes gets him to 3rd and Swish brings him home. Twice he screwed up preventing us to tie.
Alex is having some night with the glove.
Atta boy, C!
Arod is great. Period. Pearce is doing a great job at first. I agree Shame. I really like Pearce at first. Not so much Swisher. But I do like Swisher in right. As long as that’s working out, I’m hoping Joe won’t put Swisher back at first. He has other options too.
I’m a bit surprised Meals hasn’t tackled Arod yet on one of those ground balls.
Mays surely would have had a few hundred more hits but was called into the army & missed most of 52 & all of 53.
I like the way the team is playing. Involved and competing.
Ctyankeefan, if i had to guess it probably took you just as many times with the stove lesson.. Do you have fingerprints?
You don’t pay the Fat Man to eat innings, so the workhorse comment is meaningless. He’s paid to be an ace . . . which he isn’t.
Tar, Cano makes some great plays. But having watched all of his games, he takes awful routes to the ball, and looking at UZR thru the years, he’s not as good defensively as every Yankees fan makes him out to be.
Martin got charged with one passed ball, his 7th of the year. However, I don’t know which one it was.
“Fartardi? Thats a reach, I think my little nephew can do better than that.”
Yeah that was really a reach. Doesn’t even seem “Penny” like.
6 innings, 3 runs= quality start
Does CC come out for the 7th?
Lets do some damage. Now is the time for some Yankee Stadium Magic!!!!
Nice to see him jog down the line.
Need to get Price out of the game get a lead and avoid Fernando Rodney.
Cano is really struggling against lefties. It seems like he is just pulling off and hoping to make contact.
blake….good call on Nuenz….Maybe a ballet class in the offseason or at least Zumba….I know guys who have winter Zumba’d this offseason
Meals is bidding his time for a crucial check swing call.
Jones- DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!
“You don’t pay the Fat Man to eat innings, so the workhorse comment is meaningless. He’s paid to be an ace . . . which he isn’t.”
One fan’s “meaningless” is another fan’s reason for admiration.
If CC struggles during a game and still comes back out and gets outs and saves the pen, then he’s helping this team in the next-best way that he can. He’s already registered a quality start.
Not that.
Pat M,
yup…..your feet have to be good before your hands can be good.
Way to mash against lefties Smiley!
BBTI
I disagree with your take on routes, and I do not pay any attention to UZR. I also believe Cano is an outstanding defensive 2b. So I guess we just disagree.
“Does CC come out for the 7th?”
I say yes. He looked good last inning.
Andruw is toast.. He has to be a pinch hitter off the bench.
I’LL ASK THIS AGAIN
If anyone knows, were the two pitches that got by Russell WPs, PBs, or one of each
If PBs, did they have a direct effect on the scoring?
three or four runs would keep me here. Otherwise, the bad element has taken over again. Maybe there will be more fans here in the morning, and to those who are still here, Let’s Go Yanks!
Quality Start is a overrated Stat. 6 innings of 3 run ball is not something worth making a stat out of. If anything, 7 innings of 3 run ball… but I think 7 innings of 2 run ball should be a ” quality start”. Overall i think its a very stupid stat. Because you cant reality determine the quality of a start just off the runs and innings alone.
Loser Pena who can’t hit lefties with a lucky hit
Good job CC!
Go ahead and admire mediocrity. All he does is give up leads.
Nyy’s i dont wanna see back next year.
Girardi,jones,martin,swish,tex,pearce,ibanez,that other guy
Nyy’s im 50/50 on
Grandy,Cano,arod
Nyy’s i wouldnt mind coming back if they did lock up the payroll
Arod,cano
Why not just move Nunez to 2B and save money?
“Ctyankeefan, if i had to guess it probably took you just as many times with the stove lesson.. Do you have fingerprints?”
Never got burned on a stove, and look here. Lesson learned here after only 1 attempt, no more responses to you after my first!
Look at Eliot with one L Johnson play the game the way Cano should play the game
Now AAA Johnson is running wild on the bases
3 pitches got by Martin tonight and I’d say PB on all three….but 2 were called wild pitches.
what a cheapie
So nice to continue seeing Jones get playing time against LHP, even though he cant hit them.
got that off the end just a little thankfully..
“three or four runs would keep me here. Otherwise, the bad element has taken over again. Maybe there will be more fans here in the morning, and to those who are still here, Let’s Go Yanks!”
ignore them. There’s a positive vibe here tom, and we need yours to add to it! Good energy to the universe. That and the baseball gods helping out because of Meals’s inadvertent run stopper!
********
Yeah Jones is good for nothing because catching the ball doesn’t count.
I think Nunez can turn into at worst an average shortstop with some time. It’s going to take patience through some mistakes but if he stays at shortstop he could be fine.
Im watching the game at a club on Dale Maybury, ive never heard the rays broadcasters before and wow are they brutal. One sounds like a muppet the other sounds very angry.
This is a crazy Yankee world…
Some want to get rid of Cano and others want him playing like Eliot Johnson, a .200 hitter
That run will make it tough..
Bad.
This Rays team cant hit against any other team. Maybe the Angels. What a bunch of losers they are.
faux-ace coughing it right back
Look how they ray manufacture runs.. They got a howto book we can borrow?
crap
Yep, what an ace. What a joke this team is. Baltimore sweeps TB and now watch what happens this weekend.
“3 pitches got by Martin tonight and I’d say PB on all three….but 2 were called wild pitches.”
Thanks blake and that’s what I wanted to know. You can’t always trust that the official call is what really happened.
That’s a tough run to give up.
This world we live in is a joke. When losers like Eliot Johnson can succeed, but that sac of crap Andruw can fail miserably and continue to play, you know things just arent right in the world.
Another bad start from CC. It seems like all he does is give up tack on runs and extra runs. Right now he is a guy that hopes to keep the Yanks in the game and only give up 4-5 runs. Terrible job giving up that extra run. Once again a stolen base scores a run.
CC is not a lockdown ACE. He basically held up the Yanks in the offseason for that extension. Since the 2009 ALCS, he comes up VERY small in big games. Look at the Post season in 2010, 2011.
During this pennant race, all he does is give up leads and get hit around by VERY subpar lineups.
Now the Yanks are not only stuck with A-roid on the decline, they have to deal with Sabbathia on a Decline.
What a joke.
CC was ok but he just hasn’t been able to come through with a truly dominant performance in a while.
Whats up with all the “ima take my ball and go home if you dont pick me first” attitudes here.. Oh my i hope some of you are in jr high.
That one hurts. Just makes it a little harder, but certainly not impossible.
well.. so much for that ” quality start”. Great outing by our ” ACE”. He gave up the lead.. then he managed to give up another run after we cut the lead in half. It’s pretty sad when you cant rely on your ” Ace” to win games for you. Jesus… Slot Kuroda and pettitte ahead of him in the playoff rotation.
Trisha-
Martin was charged with 1 passed ball, his 7th of the year and I have no clue which one it was and therefore no idea if it lead to a run!
And that run is a big 2 out run.
Have to knock out Price next inning and get into their bullpen before Rodney is called in.
Lack of speed is hurting us this game. Jones should have been able to beat that slow roller out.
Ace.
Maybe if we had a lineup with Ichiro batting 8th and Nunez batting 9th and sit Jones the remainder of the season would be competative.
I thought we’d need a full 7 from CC and 4 runs to win this game lol… Miss Cleo I am not, but we can still get this W
Does Martin know he’s allowed to block the plate instead of standing two feet in front of it?
This sac of crap Johnson is responsible for this lead. His opposite field a couple innings ago, his stolen base and score this inning, his defensive save of a run last inning. That’s at least 3 runs he’s responsible for.
In essence, we lost to Eliot Johnson. The guy is so worthless, his own parents want nothing to do with him.
I think we’ll have to wait until next season to know if CC had an injury or if he’s just in an adjustment period with a change in his stuff.
Comeback time!
“Have to knock out Price next inning and get into their bullpen before Rodney is called in.”
Getting Price is out important. But wow, I am not sure there is anybodyIi would rather beat right now then Rodney
CC should be embarrassed about his season. A joke
“Have to knock out Price next inning and get into their bullpen before Rodney is called in.”
Definitely would prefer not to face Rodney.
“Lack of speed is hurting us this game. Jones should have been able to beat that slow roller out.”
He came close, but no cigar.
Always fun when people you’ve never seen before (brand new screennames) show up to trash the Yankees! Hmmm.
something isn’t right with CC….stuff is down and he’s not locating anywhere close to the way he usually does…..he looks like he’s dropping his shoulder a little bit to me….not staying on top
FYI when was the last comeback this team had? 2011? They aren’t a gritty team
CC didn’t have his command today, but he battled and kept us in the game.
Yankee writers and bloggers should be embarrassed too for trying to defend him as an ace.
listen CC pitched better tonight, but hes no longer the same ACE. He will have to transition to a more groundball type pitcher but I can see him being effective in the long run. Girardi should have taken him out after the 6th. His stuff was up in the 7th
Tar, funny I was thinking the same thing. Imagine if they got to Rodney. I’ll take the W any way I can get it.
Shame-
I think CC’s arm is still bothering him. He came back because of the AL East race but I don’t think he’s 100%. I’m not so much worried about him this year but I hope this isn’t a recurring thing down the stretch because of how long the Yanks have him signed for.
4 runs against the Rays lineup is absolutely awful for CC. Find as many positives as you want but you can only sugar coat it so much. The Rays lineup is all .200 hitters and AAA players that no one wants. He hasn’t had the command, velocity or stuff recently to be the real CC. The yanks are stuck with this version for the rest of the season because I am sure his arm isn’t 100%.
CC shouldn’t have to battle against this pathetic lineup. He will go down as the highest paid #3 starter in the history of the game.
The thought of Josh Hamilton in pinstripes makes me salivate. Too bad it will never happen.
Johnson atoning to Maddon for giving the yanx that last game in Tampa
This is like the opposite of Sabathia’s stretch where he willed the Brewers to the playoffs a few years back. =|
This has been an epic choke job.
Cc has not been a real ace for a long time, not just recent games.
I am not surprised at all.
Next season they will begin to worry about his long term contract because he will be worse.
Im not against Cano on this team because of lack of production.. The readers digest version of why is :
- i dont like his showboating
- dont think he has a yankees mentality
- hes super impatient and has HRHS
- i fear the lack of flexibility in $ and IF
- really wanna see this team rebuilt
HRHS – homerun hero syndrome
“CC didn’t have his command today, but he battled and kept us in the game.”
This is the type of bullsh!t that continues to allow the sh!t we see.
4th and 5th starters battle to keep you in the game. Not your $23m+ supposed “Ace”.
“something isn’t right with CC….stuff is down and he’s not locating anywhere close to the way he usually does…..he looks like he’s dropping his shoulder a little bit to me….not staying on top”
I’ve noticed that in his last starts. I think we’re going to find out at some point that he has some injury going on.
************
“Yankee writers and bloggers should be embarrassed too for trying to defend him as an ace.”
GO YANKS!
At least the Yankee commentators are calling CC out for his poor pitching, unlike the excuse brigade here.
Swisher has packed his bags after these last 3 weeks. Hamilton is the perfect fit
blake…….think elbow, he might be dealing with tendonitis…..We’ll be hearing more come November
FYI. He did not keep us in the game. He blew a lead in his 5 straight start.
Pat M,
it’s something….he’s not right…you can tell.
Oh well, we have Nova against Shields tomorrow, so let’s keep those chins up.
Girardi abused CC the last couple of years so it’s really not a surprise. Every year when they get to October he never has anything yet. He never tried to watch his workload or take him out when they had a big lead. Every start it’s leave him out there until he throws 120 pitches.
They don’t have the ability to win the game.
Chokers
“CC shouldn’t have to battle against this pathetic lineup. He will go down as the highest paid #3 starter in the history of the game.”
Hahaha
blake……he’s gutting it out whatever it is…….Sad that the natives here have turned on him …….
JonS – I was just predicting Binder Joe’s comment after the game. I agree that CC stinks to high heaven. And he’s fat, too.
Yeesh- the O is still not helping battle the nightmares of sagebrush blowing across the Stadium infield in mid-October
While I think the quality of CC’s pitches tonight were not as awful as they have been recently, the fact that he could not match Price’s effort in such an important game makes it a bad start.
Swisher is killing this team. He had two nice games in Boston coming off that 0-28 he had and now he’s tanking again. Couldn’t come through again with 1st and 2nd one out when we had Price on the ropes. Would like to see him moved down in the order if this second slump continues.
I seriously doubt that CC is hiding an arm injury, especially involving the elbow.
“The yanks are stuck with this version for the rest of the season because I am sure his arm isn’t 100%.”
And herein lies the difficulty. We’re going to know a lot more by the end of the season. If he can’t find his good stuff without really having to work, does Joe even consider any other rotation possibilities?
Can the postseason rotation be Kuroda, Andy, Nova, Hughes and not CC? Will Joe consider that an insult to CC and continue to insert him in the rotation no matter how he’s pitching?
All things to be determined.
would some of you rather Derek Lowe start these games? Something is clearly bothering CC and he’s trying to pitch through whatever it is…..yea he’s struggling a little bit but his struggling is 4 runs is almost 7 innings….it’s a concern but what are you gonna do…it’s not like they have anybody else any good.
That was unfortunate.
That’ll do it. Why was Eppley still out theere, anyhow?
I think uptown corks his bat
Good night, Irene.
I wish Eppley didn’t have to be on this team.
Might as well advertise free wins at this rate.
Niblick – haha I can see Girardi saying exactly that.
Captain Clutch September 14th, 2012 at 9:34 pm

~~~~~~~~~~~~
How many of us here have said “take him out” when the game’s totally won and he still has him in there? BAD managing.
CC might be dealing with a minor injury, but I’m not giving him a total pass just because of that. Guys play hurt. If it’s something really serious he wouldn’t be out there. He needs to do better than this, whether something is bothering him or not.
Good job Eppley. I know he is the manager’s pet but I never trust him in the game no matter what the score is.
Now we get to ROOT (what a joke!) for the O’s to lose to the A’s…..pathetic!
“At least the Yankee commentators are calling CC out for his poor pitching, unlike the excuse brigade here.”
Some of us don’t feel the need to kick someone in the face in order to feel good about ourselves. But you have a ball.
4 runs in 6 2/3 is a 5.40 ERA. Last year, AJ was crucified for that kind of performance. But Fat Boy gets away with it.
excuse brigade? hes clearly hurt. the guy went on the DL already with an elbow issue, is struggling with command, and has reduced velocity. you can choose to ignore common sense if you like but some people won’t do the same.
i liked it a lot better when people stuck by players instead of trying to bury them (especially guys who want to be here and love the team).
Yankees are not coming back… No Rally in the bones..
At least these games vs the AL east take away any mystery as to how we lost a ten ge lead. Saves us from head scratching all Winter
If he’s too hurt to pitch then he shouldn’t be out there. Period.
No, CC ha
And now he pulls him. Like I said before, this lefty-right crap is going to be the death of our season.
“excuse brigade? hes clearly hurt. the guy went on the DL already with an elbow issue, is struggling with command, and has reduced velocity. you can choose to ignore common sense if you like but some people won’t do the same.
This
I wish Eppley didn’t have to be on this team.
—————————–
Blake-
If the blog had it’s way with who they wish wasn’t on this team, the Yankees would have trouble fielding a 25 man squad!!
“If he’s too hurt to pitch then he shouldn’t be out there. Period.”
Totally agree.
“excuse brigade? hes clearly hurt. the guy went on the DL already with an elbow issue, is struggling with command, and has reduced velocity. you can choose to ignore common sense if you like but some people won’t do the same.
+1. and Co-signed
“If he’s too hurt to pitch then he shouldn’t be out there. Period.”
he’s not too hurt to pitch….but it’s possible he’s been bothered by something that isn’t allowing him to be as good as he can be…..they don’t have many other options here.
Try again. CC has not been good. His stuff has been down all year. But, could they score some runs? Two runs a game doesn’t win.
Trish et all, just a tyre problem, onwards and upwards!
“he’s not too hurt to pitch….but it’s possible he’s been bothered by something that isn’t allowing him to be as good as he can be…..they don’t have many other options here.”
boom.
If CC’s out on the mound, he should under the same scrutiny as any other player out there. That’s all there is to it. If something were extremely serious, they wouldn’t be risking it by starting him. They’ve done their tests. They know what the deal is if there is anything wrong.
austinmac September 14th, 2012 at 9:42 pm
Try again. CC has not been good. His stuff has been down all year. But, could they score some runs? Two runs a game doesn’t win.
Really? The guy they faced tonight has the lowest ERA in the league and is a favorite for the Cy Young award.
If he’s hurt or “bothered by something”, he shouldn’t be out there losing games. Get him a shrink and a case of hot dogs.
“Clown Car” Sabathia
“Copious Corpulence” Sabathia
“Choke City” Sabathia
People can say *whatever* they want, but we’re stuck with this guy for a bunch more years, and he hasn’t been great in a big game since we won the World Series.
He is a massive disappointment.
And mlbnextdef sucks, too. Just destroyed my browser.
And Bud Selig sucks beyond belief. Having Jerry Meals within 1000 miles of this game was the height of irresponsibility.
People used to complain about Wang being a fake number 1 starter. Now CC is the fake number 1 starter. My question is who exactly is a number 1 starter? Sandy Koufax?
To any rational posters left on this forum, I have to say that if any of the passed balls led to runs, it’s pretty hard to put that on CC. I’m not saying his pitching was great, but if runs would have been saved without the passed balls, then his pitching isn’t as bad as his line looks.
Just sayin’. No idea if they made a difference.
Ccs arm is fine.
Now a balk? Get ready for the infield hit
Tyler-
David Price.
I’m off to watch the 1-1- game between the Nats and Braves.
When I tune back into the Yankee game I fully expect a comeback.
JobaTipsHisCap September 14th, 2012 at 9:45 pm
Ccs arm is fine.
——————————-
He tell you that over dinner last night?
“If CC’s out on the mound, he should under the same scrutiny as any other player out there. That’s all there is to it. If something were extremely serious, they wouldn’t be risking it by starting him. They’ve done their tests. They know what the deal is if there is anything wrong.”
Yeah, just like they knew with Pineda.
“If CC’s out on the mound, he should under the same scrutiny as any other player out there. That’s all there is to it. If something were extremely serious, they wouldn’t be risking it by starting him.”
it doesn’t have to be career threatening to bother him….and he may not be hurt at all….it may just be that he’s struggling….it’s not an easy game and he’s been on the DL twice this year already….maybe he’s just fighting his mechanics. Good pitchers can struggle…..look at Dan Haren this year….look at Jon Lester…..look at Lincecum etc…..
The team is what it is. Stringing a bunch of epithets reflects on the “so called Yankee fan” posting them.
Everyone is looking for some excuse for CC’s pitching, all you have to look at is his returning girth and there’s your answer
Rays might just sweep them.
Trisha, at a certain point, come on.
Letting the 4th run score is classic CC.
The guy comes up small constantly.
You can quibble about the details, but the basic truth remains that the fat fella is just not getting it done.
Straw-
He was the number one overall pick in the draft. If these “fans” put up with being the worst team in the league for a year they can have him then.
CC has not been bad! He has been good, just not great
Unless you are comparing him to CC of previous years, saying that CC has been bad is just not accurate.
Top of the order, time to get busy!
Trisha-
Those passed balls certainly didn’t help him. But, he had to know that any slight mistake might cost him when dueling against Price. He needed to bear down and get it done. It just didn’t happen. I agree with those who suspect that he’s not 100%, but they needed him to overcome that tonight.
No he didn’t tell me.
Did he tell anyone in here his arm is not 100%? I guess he did.
Offense still blows.
“Yeah, just like they knew with Pineda.”
Hmmm. Not a pad point at all.
*************
“Rays might just sweep them.”
While I find that doubtful, I was wondering if anyone here expected the Yanks to sweep the Rays. Will taking the series be good enough for you? I seriously wasn’t predicting a sweep.
And is there a player in the major leagues more useless than Andruw Jones?
I guess he takes a walk every now and then.
Rays might just sweep them.
——-
And you might self destruct. Just saying.
Sorry, but all I see is a bunch of excuses for CC. Maybe something minor is bothering him (still not even 100% confirmed even) but to me if you well enough to be out there on the mound there are no excuses. Your stuff might be affected somewhat, but if he is playing, it is fair to criticize his performance if it’s not been up to par.
David Price has had 4 full seasons as a big league starter.
In two of them, he has had ERA’s of 2.72 and 2.54
In the other two, his ERA has been 4.42 and 3.49
So in those two seasons, he hasn’t been a “real ace” by some people’s standards.
“Those passed balls certainly didn’t help him. But, he had to know that any slight mistake might cost him when dueling against Price. He needed to bear down and get it done. It just didn’t happen. I agree with those who suspect that he’s not 100%, but they needed him to overcome that tonight.”
Tar – the alpha and the omega. I cannot disagree with anything you’ve said.
they also need guys to hit. that hasn’t been happening and hasn’t really been happening for quite some time now. you can’t march a lineup that constantly has guys like Nix, Pearce, Martin, and whatever platoon outfielder they decide to throw in and think you’re going to strike fear into the opposition.
hopefully Soriano opts out and they use that money to get an every day left fielder.
Giro should check his glove
Tar-
The Yanks could win the World Series but postgame talk here would be about Martin going 0-4 that game. It’s very close to being completely unbearable.
YS – ” Time to get busy.” – agreed,…what’s the use to contemplate otherwise?
“I seriously wasn’t predicting a sweep.”
Where you predicting the $23m+ man to pitch like a #4?
“Sorry, but all I see is a bunch of excuses for CC.”
when you’re top 4 in the Cy Young voting 3 years in a row you get the benefit of the doubt
Good job fan
Fan with a cast on right arm breaks it up
If CC didn’t make his next start he’d be a fat overpaid pansy. If he makes his next start he’s a fat overpaid “fake ace.”
Piss and Moan Central is what the LoHud has become
How much luck do the rays have with that effin carom
Jete!
Derek Jeter , the perfect baseball player
Jeter is clearly hurt, but he needs no support from the excuse brigade.
Jeter is true grit.
Why cant our .250 hitting AAAA players get hits like the Rays’ do? Because ours are swinging for the fences and striking out.
Here we go! Way to get it started cap’n!
Imagine what Jeter could do with 2 good ankles.
I don’t think that there’s any Yankee fan here who isn’t disappointed with CC’s performance tonight, along with his body of work for the season.
But the difference is that some of us aren’t hating on him personally for it. We realize that he isn’t out there trying to lose games. And so calling him all kinds of demeaning names because we’re disappointed with his performance is not part of who we are. I personally find that kind of behavior a lot more repugnant than CC’s performance, especially from those who call themselves fans.
I mean look at Jeter -he’s obviously dealing with some minor injuries but he’s still performing. You have to go out there and gut it out.
Cmon swisher!!!
Let me guess here comes an off speed pitch and a Swisher DP.
I’m happy to hear Kay telling the truth about the team.
Yes! Jeet
Tyler I guess we should be used to. Let’s just converse with those who are not like that.
Wow that pitch was right there to hit
Amen to Kay
And it ain’t over until the Ys 27th out. Remember that.
” Pat M. September 14th, 2012 at 9:53 pm
Piss and Moan Central is what the LoHud has become”
Yes…its almost toxic in here when these kind of games happen. Tonight Sabathia’s one awful inning was the cause of death.
Jeter lines his 2nd hit, and no one else has multiple hits. 2-3-4 are all 0 fors. Unreal
just meet the ball Swisher….no hero swings
LGY if your out there, Wells could have beaten Swish had he not came up lame in May……Dingers , rbi’s and slugging were for the taking
Remember who delivered in 2009, Matsui and Damon. Guys who had pop, but were good average hitters.
Good job, Swish
Trisha,
The personal insults regarding CC’s weight are disgusting, vile, & immature. There is no place for it and I wish someone would moderate the comments more, but I’m too lazy to contact Chad about it. It’s pretty easy for me to just ignore it. But those people have to deal with who they are on a daily basis & honestly that might be punishment enough.
Swisher is killing them batting 2nd. They don’t have anyone else but he can’t hit at all now. I would rather see Nunez batting 2nd.
Let Jeter hit and blake can do his super duper Belanger thing
YES!!!!
A-BOMB!!!! He crushed that ball.
And if Swisher hadn’t just sucked up the joint….
“I mean look at Jeter -he’s obviously dealing with some minor injuries but he’s still performing. You have to go out there and gut it out.”
I think CC kinda did that….he went almost 7 innings and would have given them a chance to win if they could score any runs…….which they just did!!!
Go Arod!!! Too bad AAA Eppley gave up that homerun.
Alex!!!!
Bring out the tape measure , wow what a blow by Alex
Looks like the Yanks are still in it.
That’s for those of you who appreciate Kay “telling it like it is.”
Pretty good for a “singles hitter”.
Crushed.
Game on! Donte stop there!
Win or lose tonight Alex is not letting this team go down. He is on a mission.
Tyler, you’re talking about winning a World Series, while the Yanks are busy falling completely out of the playoffs.
They blew a ten game lead, and they are far from a lock to even be in the postseason. To pretend like this is complaining about a WS-winning team is really disingenuous.
And too many people here don’t understand the game. “Meals got paid back” – are you kidding? I don’t care if the guy got drilled between the eyes. The guy got us again and cost us a double and very possibly a run.
boy he crunched that…..a come back win tonight would really be a spirit lifter.
crushed!!!!!!
Alex has really played a good game tonight overall….great defense and then that blast…..
trisha – DIAF
Your overly optimistic outlook doesn’t change the last 3 months.
Blake,
I think Jeter is doing it a little better than CC (this is still assuming that CC is hurt), but you’re right that CC didn’t let the game get out of hand. Which is important.
When you see alex hit balls like that—-this idea that he has no power or lost it is ludicrous.
“The personal insults regarding CC’s weight are disgusting, vile, & immature. There is no place for it and I wish someone would moderate the comments more, but I’m too lazy to contact Chad about it. kev -great insight. I can’t imagine how sad it must be.
One blast away from getting even. Nice job A-Rod.
It might be time to move Swisher out of the 2 hole again. I don’t know who else to put there but he’s in a terrible slump.
Cmon robbie!
theREALkevin September 14th, 2012 at 9:57 pm
It’s pretty easy for me to just ignore it. But those people have to deal with who they are on a daily basis & honestly that might be punishment enough.
————————–
One person and so many personalities.. I hope he has to deal with all of them!
That Eppley homer looms large…..they have to stop pitching him….he’s not good.
“trisha – DIAF”
Die in a fire?
Your latest screenname is a dead giveaway, WCYF.
jmir-
I know this isn’t a World Series winning team at this point. My whole post was about that people here would still complain. Nothing makes some of these “fans” happy but to troll on a Friday night.
And look back at the posts… I didn’t say that Meals was paid back. I was angry because it took away an extra base, just like most in here said. You’re dead wrong.
lets get Rodney….he’s not used to going more than one
Placing items in print before the world reveals true sole
Turn his hat around
Arod and Jeter, if they are both hot, can win us playoff series.
Some here complain about Cano being impatient, which is true when he is slumping. However he does have the highest OBP on the Yanks this year
Do you let Russ hit here or PH Chavy?
There wouldn’t be a better for Martin to run into a homer than right now.
“One person and so many personalities.. I hope he has to deal with all of them!”
Yeah, just wish we didn’t have to!
This is not a new screen name. I have no idea who WCYF is.
They need to work rodney for a bunch of pitches this inning & tie it up!
Let’s Go Yankees!!!
this blog is like this because the operators don’t really give a crap about the trolls. if you write them an e-mail they will tell you that people get mad when the Yankees lose and thats that.
Jerry Meals is the difference in the game yet again
We don’t have a come back win all yr. Be a nice time
The one thing I’ll say for Cano during this malaise is that he is walking a decent amount. I think that’s already 10 this month.
It is really nice to see the flashes of the old A-Rod. With his age, the consistency isn’t there like it used to be, but that power stroke is still in there at times. No doubter.
Good AB by Cano. Gotta keep the rally going here. When’s the last time they had a walkoff???
I would love to beat Rodney here…
A sub 1 ERA. insane.
Hey coney – why don choo have a dance?
blake-
Not many options for Girardi other than Eppley unless he throws a guy like Warren or Wade.
Eppley has killed them since july
Trisha
Can we go 1-53? Please…Please?
Rodney has been garbage for a few years now and this year miraculously has a 0.68 ERA. How?
now would be a good time for Rodney to go back to what he’s been most of his career…..terrible.
Got to make Rodney work.
“Some here complain about Cano being impatient, which is true when he is slumping. However he does have the highest OBP on the Yanks this year”
And some of us just don’t complain.
Some of us sit patiently and keep the faith. Many times we’re rewarded by the end of the game. That’s more than I can say for those who start mouthing off from the first inning on and end up eating crow by the end of the game.
Tyler September 14th, 2012 at 9:29 pm
Shame-
I think CC’s arm is still bothering him.
———-
Meant to respond to this before, I agree Tyler.. I lean towards thinking its injury related but I also wanna leave the door open to the fact that he might just be adjusting to different capabilities and stuff. It could be that he’s trying to overcompensate for something he isn’t feeling on the ball and it’s throwing him off.
How did he stop there? That was like a quick pitch
“Not many options for Girardi other than Eppley unless he throws a guy like Warren or Wade.”
Wade….get Montgomery up…..anything
“Trisha
We’re making him work at least!
blake-
Totally agree on Montgomery. Wade looks better for sure but I don’t trust him any more than Eppley. I guess it would be nice to at least have hope of something good happening though over the same result every time.
Yeah I’m also pretty surprised Eppley has still been around and… pitching and stuff.
Dickerson or Ibanez?
Shame Spencer – If CC’s truly dealing with an injury, it’s not helping him to keep saying he’s fine. He’d be looked at in a totally different light if people knew (thought) that he was dealing with something.
start early and guess right Raul
Shame-
That could be a good explanation too. I really didn’t like the quote from Girardi pregame about all the innings he’s logged in his life. That’s always scared me about CC and I hope that it’s not catching up to him.
Lil single here!
Martin vs. Rodney is such a bad matchup.
Individuals who rip the Yanks will feel,…left out if they win. The supporters will retain a heart even in defeat.
Trisha – You want a kid with 80 pro innings and like 10 above High A to come in a crazy pressure packed game? ok….
Rodney is a grown up man embracing the hip hop image of a 20 year old…..Time to nail this chump
get Grandy up there Raul….
Ibanez for jones is like turning off the original king long movie on old channel 11 in order to watch mothra on old channel 9
come on Grandy!….time one here
First pitch. Damn
Why is Curtis swinging at the first pitch?
ugh
I dont come here a lot but i cant tell if its the pissing and moaning about this team tankin thats more prevelant or people pissing and moaning about people pissing and moaning.
I can say this for sure, theres a lot of entitlement and very stuck up brats who constantly rip people apart if they criticize the team .
Okay, only down one run.
Don’t say there’s no comeback in this team.
You want offense. You got offense.
Man, Grandy has taken some awful hacks tonight. We’re within one though, gotta have a shut down inning here and get back out there to make Rodney pitch.
Come on Grandy, he just walked the previous guy on 4 pitches.
I was hoping for at least a little more drama there….
Another heart breaking loss is happening.
nothing drives me crazier than a pitcher clearly losing the zone and a guy goes up there and hacks at the first pitch he sees.
Too many one dimensional hitters in the lineup…
He must have had his reasons to swing at first pitch but from my couch it looked like a strange choice
why swing at the first pitch?? why? why? why??
I would have liked swinging at the first pitch there a lot better if he had hit it out
Penny – actually you do come here a lot. Karma is not a nice thing. So you might want to cool your jets.
I think you know what I mean.
Enough said.
What a terrible at bat from Granderson. This team swings at the 1st pitch more than any team I have ever seen and besides Jeter they never get hits. Just terrible.
Terrible! This is what makes this team so painful to watch.. Guy cant find the strike zone , 5 good AB worthless Marting swings at a pitch practically in the dugout then bases loaded and grandy swings first pitch… PAINFUL SUFFERING!
Really need to redo this team.
Curtis is still wrestling with whether he should pre-order the iPhone 5.
Joe should change pitchers 3 x to make rodney sit a long time
“why swing at the first pitch?? why? why? why??”
Cause he wanted to save the drama for a walk-off in the 9th? We still have 3 outs!!!
Come on Jobber.
Uncle Tom Granderson has a 15 million dollar option for next year… would not TOUCH it.
He has become a joke.
“Another heart breaking loss is happening.”
What’s heart-breaking about it, not that I am convinced a loss is on its way. A loss is a loss.
Penny — you’ve been warned lol
The Yankees seem to almost come back and win a lot.
Tyler – yes, yes, yes. Kepner is wrong. Power is fine. Exclusively featuring low BA power hitters is not.
Penny,
So your critizicing ppl who critize your critizism?
Did I get that right?
The sin wasn’t swinging on the first pitch, it was the rollover. No at bat plan.
this is the best his slider has been this year….
Joba should have been in in the last inning, Rays fifth run may have been prevented.
How many Yankees is this lineup give consistent “good at-bats”
maybe if you use Joba in the 8th then they don’t hit a homer and it’s 4-4 now?
Im so excited that Granderson didnt understand the situation and go up there and try to take a couple pitches…
Trisha ehhh? What are you talking about abd no i do not know what you mean.
Are you the admin/moderator? Whenever i do come here you are always here so was just wondering.
Joba is throwing too many sliders and then batters just sit on it. I really don’t unerstand why he never throws his fastball.
Phelps is available?
Zmannis? She works for lohud?
Imagine if Girardi as half as good a manager as Maddon. :/
Penny – you don’t want me to take this any further. So just forget it. Okay NYY Girl?
On this date in baseball history, Bob Brenly committed a record 4 errors in one inning and later hit a walk-off homer for the SF Giants.
umbrella, Moreso than most, Derek, Alex and Russell. Even though Derek swings at the 1st pitch a lot, and Russell has some bad ABs here and there.
GRANDY!!!
Change up?
blake – Not until Sunday supposedly.
Trisha .. You totally lost me.
No, Penny, she just thinks she does.
Atta boy, Grandy.
One more, Joba.
Curtis is top 5 in HRs. The contract is fine. You just cant have Grandy and Swisher and the LF platoon and the DH platoon all be low average hitters.
What is with these change ups? First Robertson gets beat on one, and now Joba nearly does also. Just scrap them, all those guys need is their FBs & slider
They got lucky on that pitch. I didn’t think Granderson had any chance to catch that. Joba has to throw some fastballs.
Josh Norris ?@jnorris427
Another whiff for Montgomery seals this one. 11-7, and good night
it gets old reading these tweets every night about how awesome Montgomery is and then watching the Yankee bullpen that needs help.
Bo knows, actually, swinging at the first pitch showed a lack of understanding of the situation. You’ve got a closer in there for a 5 out save. Make him work some more, maybe he has less in the 9th inning. Dont just go up there hacking.
Agreed, a loss is a loss minus one, or plus a billion in another light
( the players go away, lick their wounds, and learn to kick butt bettah’ )
“Penny — you’ve been warned lol”
That wasn’t warning. I am trying to telegraph something to Penny. If he or she chooses to pretend he or she doesn’t know what I’m talking about, that’s on her or him. K?
Did Cone just mention a 70% sex rate or success rate?
Still trying to understand the point of expanding rosters but yet you let Martin hit there with Chavez a .302 against righties sitting on the bench in a key spot in the game?
Im still steaming hot from grandy first pitch swinging! Grr!
“Did Cone just mention a 70% sex rate or success rate?”
that pitch had him tied up like 50 shades of Gray Michael.
Crap.
nUNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
wow just wow
Mother……………….
That was bound to happen, wasn’t it?
oh I knew it was too good to be true
It was just a matter of time
Wow. And he looked so good before that. Horrible timing.
Crap
This team plays just well enough to lose
Yanks tie this up as a tired arm Rodney will struggle in the 9th…..This is predicated on Jobs not serving up a run or 2….
So now we have to tag Rodney for more.
flat footed….the old Nunie came back there….didn’t move his feet….just stood there and the ball played him.
Good job Nunez.
Lazy play.
Didnt bother to keep the ball in front of him.
With Longoria running, who couldnt limp to 1st base.
Excellent lack of effort. Well done Nunez.
Ballgame.
You have to be kidding me!!! Nunez is the worst defense ive ever seen!!!
And trisha you have me completely confused. I have no idea what you trying to tell me.
that is totally unacceptable. the first thing you teach people about fielding is to get your body in front of the ball. for Nunez to not field that ball is completely ridiculous.
NuniEEEEEEE strikes again. What a jackass.
Get in frnt of the ball Eddie, damn
For a week it was one post after another about how joe HAD TO started nunez.
I’m a huge Nunez defender, but that was INEXCUSABLE!
There’s Rich Thompson just stealing a base immediately.
While Brett Gardner and Ichiro stand at 1B with cement in their cleats.
Girardi with a little smirk after the Nunez error. Probably the kiss of death for Nunez. You have an excuse now Joe.
Just really awkward by Nunez. Tried to stab at it almost instead just calmly getting in front of it.
It’s OK to make an error every now & then- you just HAVE to knock the ball down if you do. You cannot let it get past you and allow a run to score.
Tampa Bay track meet
Ys Guy September 14th, 2012 at 10:24 pm
For a week it was one post after another about how joe HAD TO started nunez.
—
90% of that was for him to hit instead of Jones.
I dont come here much at all, id say a total of 10 games at the most, you have me confused with someone else.
Montero could do what Martin has done behind the plate tonight….pass balls….Rays running at will….
Oh come on. Nunez has done a lot of good since he came up. Some hits, energy, and he had looked good on D before that play. It was just horrible timing & he still needs work. He should still play despite that.
TELL ME AGAIN why Nunez is still in the Yankee organization. Holy crap, he is the living embodiment of the word “disappointment”.
Nunez should have been the DH.
Nunez made two fantastic plays earlier. So he made an error. He’s human. No I’m not thrilled he did. I’m sure he’s horrified by it.
I know you’re frustrated.
And Ys Guy is right. This forum didn’t stop complaining about Nunez not being in games.
SMH
Joba did a pretty nice job…..so theres that.
Then again i do live in a dorm so maybe soneone else uses my account we are all yankke fans.
You have to be kidding me. I would be surprised if Nunez sees the field again this season. He is just brutal. A 24 year old DH. Just terrible.
Chavy pinch hits for Pearce?
Nunez will likely be bailed out by a zero thrown up by Rodney
I have a lot of time for Nunez and thought maybe the defense was behind him. How you get no leather on that is beyond me as a pro baseball player. He brings so much offensively, has speed, you can see range at short and a good arm, but not making easy plays, easy throws, just don’t understand it nor how to fix it?
“Joba did a pretty nice job…..so theres that.”
Absolutely. And the offense did make a comeback. So there’s that too.
Nunez should mostly be the DH vs LHP….he’s looked better at times defensively but there is still too much potential for stuff like that to play him much at SS.
Just get someone on for a shot
Error whatever, we wouldn’t have scored this inning anyway
also go figure, Trisha being a total threatening annoyance yet again in this thread.
No interest in getting on base to bring the tying to the plate for Ichi-blow
It is a shame with Nunez. The guy can hit, but there is no way they are going to let him start regularly on this team with his penchant for errors.
“YOUVE BEEN WARNED”. Tough talk.
Im sure Nunez is hurting right now very mad at himself.
Whos the pitchin coach for the rays?
P.S., they were still losing before that error. Let’s not act like it was a lock they would come back at 5-4. The error really hurt but it’s not even close to the only reason why they lost, assuming they don’t come back.
I don’t think anyone has used my acount,….who would want to ?
Is this really happening? You simply can’t keep Nunez, he’s a defensive liability!
Might wanna make sure you at least threaten the right person before you go all Internet Tough Guy on someone.
Why even have Ichiro and Chavez pinch hit? Girardi is obviously going down with his old veterans who are old and shot. Pinch hitting for Nunez???!! Girardi is absolutely out of his mind.
No managing. No desire. No nothing.
5 pitches, 2 outs. And neither guys were the tying run
So frustrating …!!!!!!!!
Phranchise
It’s mental. Not sure how you fix it.
Weak.
Rodney looks like the homeless guy that sits in front of the starbucks near my office…
I’m so sick of the rays finding relievers that have career years with them.
“also go figure, Trisha being a total threatening annoyance yet again in this thread.”
I guess it depends on what side of the fence you sit on, beedogs. And since you are hardly ever here and only show up when things are bad, I really don’t think you have much standing to make comment on what I do.
When we look back on this season, it will be like kids knowing they’re getting to the end of their sparklers
Man, this is tough. I honestly thought that this was going to be their turnaround game.
Good night.
This team doesn’t have the special something to overcome these things. You want them to be that team, but they just aren’t. As much talent as they may have they have none of the magic a championship team has.
I guess three in a row would be too much to ask at this point.
I’m tired of rodney too.
Crappy.
See everybody tomorrow.
Yay. Welcome to second place.
Come back & win tomorrow!
Have fun, buzzards!
remember the time Nunez was the reason the Yankees didn’t acquire Cliff Lee from Seattle? unreal.
I can comment on whatever I want. Funny how this works. You constantly overstep your boundaries on here and I am calling you out on your BS. Deal with it.
Hassey — the sparklers are starting to make the fingertips burn. No ninth inning comebacks all year. Amazing. No other team can claim that.
Wasn’t it Nunez and Nova?
How many warnings do you get before Trisha banishes you to the Phantom Zone? Just asking…
I say the A’s win tonight against Saunders.
Although maybe at this point we should pull for the A’s to lose.
This offense still blows.
Trish,…let ‘em say what they want, and then,….have some fun!!!
Pinch hitting Chavez for Nunez shows that Girardi has lost his mind. He is following the Torre way of doing things. No young player is given a chance and instead you have to go with the older player no matter how bad the veteran looks. Terrible job by Girardi. Ichiro is a shell of himself and Chavez hasn’t hit in a long time but of course pinch hit them because of what they did 10 years ago. Just brilliant.
The Yankees would be utterly embarrassed in the playoffs, so maybe an A’s loss would be a good idea.
Go back to AAA Nunez. Trade him for an Oreo cookie.
I’d trade Nunez’s error for Martin’s.. and the context of discussing putting Nunez in the line up is largely based on many other factors. Context.
so why does Rodney all the sudden throw harder than he ever has?
Bee dogs-
I was talking about the wild card, troll.
How far has a team gone without having a single ninth inning come from behind win? It just doesn’t feel hopeful. It was very similar last year with a terrible extra inning record.
If the team doesn’t win enough games from here out, they simply don’t deserve the playoffs. Win or go home.
Cc stinks
They should be swept.
Trenton won tonight. There’s that.
austinmac September 14th, 2012 at 10:37 pm
How far has a team gone without having a single ninth inning come from behind win?
————–
They said this season they were 0-53 (before tonight) when losing in the 8th. (correct me if I’m wrong, guys)
““YOUVE BEEN WARNED”. Tough talk.”
Sure is! Want to point out the post?
Or do you once again not have a clue what you’re talking about.
Big man.
Missing the playoffs might be the thing this team needs to take a serious look at its coaching staff and management, as well as a half dozen useless players. There are a lot of reasons to shop guys like Granderson and let “fan favorite” Nick Swisher walk.
What a load of nonsense acting like it’s a moral failing to criticize CC’s weight. The people saying that are a JOKE.
How much money is he making? Yeah, I think it’s not unreasonable to expect him to be physically fit enough to perform through the balance of his contract.
Some people around here need to take a step off of their high horses.
Did every AB score tonite? Except Thomson? Again no one needs 747s if you put the ball in play and have a knack for well placed balls and hits
He pitched better when he was heavier. What’s your point?
Joel Sherman ?@Joelsherman1
Many reasons #Yankees r sinking, but losing 4 straight CC starts — in all of which he had lead — near top.
Me or does Giro seem more down tonite, almost capitulating
He pitched better when he was heavier. What’s your point?
——
Are you really that dumb? Or do you just know nothing about sports?
He was YOUNGER.
You can get away with that when you’re in your twenties.
Everyone knows that catches up with you as you get older, and that was always the concern with signing the guy. And he’s done very little to allay that concern.
Otherwise, I mean, really, great point.
Canada ” looked ” like crap against the Russians in’72 ( out of shape and all. )
Henderson avec concussion, had to ” score ” the winning goals in the final 3 games in Moscow.
And,…he isn’t even in the hall of fame like Thurman!
Idiots!!!
yankees are 3-40 with risp last 4 games. you can’t win games hitting like this.
And the Red Sox are beating Toronto!
Shame,
Poorly worded question. Has a team ever won a championship with no such wins? It seems a predictor of failure or the sign of something missing.
“He pitched better when he was heavier. What’s your point?”
Maybe he should put on another 50 lbs. Then he’d win the Cy Young, no doubt.
On that Nunez error, looked to me like the ball caught the lip of the grass. Did a flat bounce.
And might I add, this is not just conjecture – that was universally acknowledged as a concern when they signed and resigned him.
Really? So you’re a bio mechanics expert now? It’s not his weight. It’s his elbow and his delivery.
Boy- being a fan of the Yankee franchise sure doesn’t suck, but this year’s incarnation sure is limited and difficult to watch
Ccs excuse would be yankees cut the buffet menu.
I am glad medias begin to expose him.
Why would anyone care what is happening in the Red Sox game? I care as much what is happening in a tiddlywinks game somewhere in Cork.
“On that Nunez error, looked to me like the ball caught the lip of the grass. Did a flat bounce.”
looked like he flat out little leagued it to me….didn’t move his feet….didn’t stay down….just botched it….turns out it didn’t matter cause they didn’t score anyway.
Did nunez cause the yankees to lose or cc not comeing up big or girardi not bringing in chamberlain an pinch hitting nunez or wad it the pass ball martin the defence let go by
Nick, my team is learning from losing to Boston tonite, and plan to make them pay in future years forth.
Hassey
He just has no sense of urgency. He thinks they have all the time in the world to make this up. Cause ya know, they’ve been through it before.
Really? So you’re a bio mechanics expert now? It’s not his weight. It’s his elbow and his delivery.
———
Because carrying that much weight around every day and carrying that much weight through the zone as you pitch couldn’t possibly have anything to do with that. You’re kind of not very bright.
Win or lose this year or next or even the next, when we finally have a prime mix of players that hits, it will feel like coming up from underwater to gulp huge air
looked like he flat out little leagued it to me….didn’t move his feet….didn’t stay down….just botched it….turns out it didn’t matter cause they didn’t score anyway.
——–
Agreed on him not moving. It was just a weird bounce.
I mean really, I find that unfathomable. Someone needs to be an expert in bio-mechanics to know that carrying around that much weight could have an effect on your delivery?
Unreal.
Nunez played the ball off to the side. He didn’t move his feet. But, I agree it didn’t matter.
It’s amazing all the names that always only pop up when the Yankees are doing badly at the moment or they just have something negative to say. Pathetic.
Anyway, Nunez could be a hell of shortstop if he could stop making errors on easy plays. I’m not sure Jeter makes one or two of the outs he made tonight.
Baltimore is winning 1-0. Of course they are.
“Why would anyone care what is happening in the Red Sox game? I care as much what is happening in a tiddlywinks game somewhere in Cork.”
Why would anyone care about whether you care about what’s happening in the Red Sox game?
You’ve uncorked a vicious non-caring spiral.
Bo, what kind of car do you drive presently?
“They said this season they were 0-53 (before tonight) when losing in the 8th. (correct me if I’m wrong, guys)”
Shame, that’s really the most disturbing stat of all to me. And they are the only team in the majors with an 0-fer record. Wow.
The biggest disappointment for me this season has been Cano. His stats look solid, but he is the one superstar in his prime that they need to be able to rely on. He hasn’t gotten the hits in key spots, he can’t hit lefties all of a sudden, RISP .233. His struggles have nothing to do with age or anything else. And to a lesser extent Granderson, but Cano is a far more accomplished hitter, Grandy is what he is so you have to live with his ks and droughts.
You’re kind of negative. And you obviously didn’t pay attention when he was losing 32 lbs in the offseason. In fact, you’re an idiot.
BTW, O’s up 1-0 after 2 1/2.
Rooting for oakland to lose is absurd. Winning the wild card is a joke. In a one game playoff, I don’t care who we play, we are underdogs. We play oakland again so we can control our own destiny as far as they are concerned. If baltimore wins tonight, our fate is out of our hands as it pertains to the division. Simplistic, but true. You root for oakland to sweep baltimore, plain and simple.
Least we didn’t lose by two runs thanks to Nunie! Hard enough to score one run off Rodney but at least you have a chance of hitting one out. Two is near impossible. Guess the sky is falling in Yankeeland once again tonight.
I just don’t see how what’s happening in a game between the 4th and 5th place teams is relevant to anything. Especially when more pressing things are happening. Like this team ending its season very early.
I mean, one run, of course!
trisha – Yeah, to be honest I didn’t think it was actually that bad.. I thought surely we had gotten some late wins that I just didn’t recall. When they showed that number I was floored.
Granted, its more than likely many of those games were not realistically within reach by the 8th, but still… sort of a depressing number.
I’m superstitious, so I don’t post when the team is winning. I have vague hopes that momentum will change when I come over here to vent. That, and mlb.tv ate my browser, so I couldn’t watch, anyway.
Will you guys look the other way for just one second so I can whisper this without being pounced:
Past…this year’s team stinks…
Ok you can turn around now, nothing to see here
“I just don’t see how what’s happening in a game between the 4th and 5th place teams is relevant to anything.”
You don’t have to see. Not everyone is going to get everything.
You’re kind of negative. And you obviously didn’t pay attention when he was losing 32 lbs in the offseason. In fact, you’re an idiot.
——
I also noticed him putting it back on during the season last season, and he looks fat as ever, yet again.
And Mr. Einstein, I hate to break this to you, but shaving 32 pounds off of that bulk is not exactly going to get it done. He’s still terrifically overweight, and anyone who says different either has a funnyhouse mirror for a tv or doesn’t have two working eyes.
austin – Not sure, but I hear ya on that… I think it comes down to knowing that you can win verses being afraid to lose. Winning in those situations breeds the former, losing the latter.
Jmirjmir – post when your team wins. You are not bad luck!
Poor Nuney. Good to see Joba & Cano give him a tap.
Be very careful, Hassey. Baghdad Bob – I mean Trisha – is sure to set you straight.
Everything is fantastic! Please ignore the rolling tanks in the background of this shot!
“You’re kind of negative. And you obviously didn’t pay attention when he was losing 32 lbs in the offseason. In fact, you’re an idiot.”
Principal Trisha needs to summon this kid to her office for his mean-spirited talk.
I’m so sick of girardi I wish he would quit the team isn’t respondinding they need tom coughlin put some fire under their guttles asses
Jmirjmir – post when your team wins. You are not bad luck!
—–
Somehow, I’m convinced that it is. I’m ok with posting *after* a win, of course, unless they’re on a real streak, in which case, I don’t want to alter anything!
David Wells won almost 240 avec pizza and beer.
You guys realize that when CC was heavier… he was better. Maybe he needs to gain weight, not lose more.
This kid is 45 years old and agrees with Trisha on a majority of things.
Alfred, where art tho? Aid is needed indeed
“David Wells won almost 240 avec pizza and beer.”
And Doc Ellis pitched a no-hitter on LSD…spike the Gatorade!
I’m rooting for the As to beat the Os but right now, I feel as though Baltimore deserve to win the division. Of course, things can change before the end of the season but the Yankees are so flawed that they don’t deserve to make the play-offs. How many players are actually having a good year? Jeter, Kuroda, Soriano. That’s three out of 25, or put another way, 12% of the entire roster.
Shame, as I said, that’s easier to deal with when you’re younger. It’s much easier to handle that bulk when you’re a young man and the springs are all still in perfect working order.
My father was a doctor. Fat people break down as they get older. It’s a law of the universe.
And pointing out an outlier here or there does not undermine the maxim.
And yes, believe it or not, it is simple physics.
Shame, careful, you’ll be called not very bright now by some college kid living in his mother’s basement.
Anyway, I need to go workout. I’m older than CC, and I’m in danger of breaking down, the same as he is.
jmills September 14th, 2012 at 10:58 pm
David Wells won almost 240 avec pizza and beer.
////
jmills is a man of both poetry & perspective!
If I understand this right, someone here is tyred of Cano and wishes to donate him to the dear J birds.
Bo, what kind of car do you drive presently?
————-
Just a regular Accord. The Alfa is resting, my mechanic retired. I take it out for a run once in a while, a little touring. As I said “When you own an Alfa, you’re in partnership with your mechanic.
Alfred,….I hold my moments like a lady steetcar driver over your head
Bruce – simply put, u aren’t a yankee fan. Did u root for baltimore to win the 96 ALCS because the yankees didn’t deserve to win the jeffrey maeir game or san diego to win the world series because tino should have been called out on strikes before his grand slam?
Not so steamed about CC as the Giambification of the Yankee offense.
jmills, would you be interested in taking on CC’s contract? That might be something we’d be willing to look into.
CC is a big strong dude.. I’m not saying he’s the most healthy dude, but I don’t think his weight is the issue. It looks more mechanical which leads you to believe is overcompensating for an injury or maybe a tick off his velocity and a lack of sharpness with his command.
Every time I think Brennan boesch would look great in pinstripes, I look down and he’s still hitting south of .250
Cespedes 2-run homer!
Cespedes two run homer.
Cespides HR. 2-1 A’s.
Thes effin team s that we made look awful months ago now have a better record than us.
Shame, let me ask you this, though – were you honestly not worried about his weight when they signed him? I know that I was. There may be other things that could be the more *prominent* issues, but it’s not a shot in the dark to suggest that weight could be connected to any of those problems. It just puts so much strain on the body to be carrying around that kind of excess baggage.
Carlo, I think you misread my email. Of course, I’m rooting against the Orioles but I’d much rather see the Yanks win the division through their own stellar play rather than hoping for another team to hand it to them.
Cespedes……….I hate watching him play. I mean, yay that he’s helping beat the O’s but I would have preferred to see him helping us beat the O’s.
Alfred, where art tho? Aid is needed indeed
///
jmills, had a rough day, spent in ER at local hospital. Everything’s stable, thank heaven, but some others & their loved ones coming through the place may never be the same. Don’t take your loved ones for granted folks, and we could all try, and use, a little tenderness.
Hope you’re enjoying Bulgakov!
Harold Reynolds best in the biz
Bo, I know , I had a recent experience like Alfred’s cap in the backseat. I was reading about Senna’s death by failed steering this week. The Prelude was in for service and on another note, my mechanic caught the fact the rack and pinnion steering was about to fail which would spell disaster when I’m given to 140 km/hr plus more on the HWY.
Must be a silly angel upon $my shoulder.
TY Cespedes
Cespedes……….I hate watching him play. I mean, yay that he’s helping beat the O’s but I would have preferred to see him helping us beat the O’s.
It is brutal that he’s not in Pinstripes.
Particularly considering that playing for the Yankees is a dream for most Cubans.
jmir – Honestly no.
I’d think being overweight would put the most strain on the legs/knees, since that’s where he’s actually carrying the majority of the weight. CC’s hasn’t had any lower body issues that I know of, which leads me to think it’s a different type of issue. The number of innings CC has pitched was always far more of a concern than his weight, IMO.
Jmirjmir – CC is welcome here anytime. Have a great workout! I have to keep moving too.
Remember the day when we were disappointed if we didn’t go 14-4 against the Rays during the season? Oh how the worm has turned.
Nova vs. Shields tomorrow doesn’t exactly fill you full of confidence either.
Here’s the problem, though, Shame. Strain on the lower body can absolutely manifest as problems in the upper body, by affecting balance, drive, and overall mechanics – and can certainly impact the overall structure if there is overcompensation to make up for any trouble pushing that much bulk through the pitching zone.
But if you didn’t worry, you didn’t worry – I know that I did.
I also think he’s carrying more of his weight around his midsection than anywhere else, even accounting for his enormous lower body size.
My hope, when he was signed, was that he’d see what was coming down the road and try to shave off 15-20 pounds every year.
Missed the boat on signing The Cuban Outfielders
Yeah, I gotta go and deal with the excess bulk I’m pushing around.
Bruce – my bad. Quite simply, I agree with you, they do deserve it. We simply aren’t doing anything to merit winning this division, but I still want to see it happen. I’ll take it even if we back into it. I’m not blind to the fact that we are going nowhere in october and maybe, for the future, its best if we don’t make the playoffs. They are struggling like crazy with 2013 season ticket sales the way it is so if missing the playoffs lights the fire that u can’t run this same product out there again next year then its a plus. I’m hoping the front office isn’t that pathetic, but I’m not sure. So, I’m willing to take my chances that they know this team stinks and they won’t be misled by an october appearance. And heck, before alds game 1, I know I’ll be psyched and optimistic no matter how we get there.
Alfred, my thoughts to you and yours!!!!!
And, yes, some do not make it here; on to better things!
Shame,
how you doing tonight. Definitely miles on the arm. One reason I didn’t want to cough up the farm for the King. He’s young, but has thrown mucho innings. C didn’t opt out, and he didi have that scare where he couldn’t feel his arm. The problem is, there isn’t much margin for error, here. When something stalls or goes south, it swallows us alive. Redemption rarely arrives.
jimills, thanks my friend. ur a wise man.
@SBethiaumeESPN Elias says CC Sabathia is first #Yankees pitcher to blow a lead in 5 straight starts since Kei Igawa in 2007.
But you guys keep defending him as if being unrealistically optimistic will change anything.
Me too, Carlo. The play-offs without the Yankees will be unbearable to watch for me. But if they don’t get there, it will be because they don’t deserve it. Since going 5-1 straight after the All Star Break, they have been wretched. Injuries have played a part but that’s not a complete excuse for a club with their resources. Too many players under-performing on a daily basis. Stars like CC, Tex and Cano not living up to their billing. Cashman not foreseeing trouble ahead and shopping at Walmart when we needed to buy from Bergdorf Goodman.
Alfred, thanks for the book, thanks for being my friend. Such things help push wise.
JAP – Doin well, but would be better if I had a Yankee win to sleep on lol..
I just think there are too many other factors that could contribute to CC’s un-CC like season, but I don’t think his weight is one of the bigger factors. If it is though, we’ll know next season. By then we’ll be able to tell if its physical and a lingering issue.
Cashman is a joke. He has no foresight whatsoever. Sure, foreseeing injuries is difficult, but when ur team can’t produce runs, u go get a contact bat to help that process. When u lose ur closer, u go get an arm to help ur pen since its a huge man down. When u lose a starter in march, u don’t sit there motionless when ur ace and #2 guys are both hurt at the asb. When ur 3rd baseman breaks his hand and ur offense already stinks, u don’t pickup steve pearce. Literally, he could work 3 hours a week to get done what he got done this season.
CC has been very pedestrian, and that’s a serious problem for the Yankees if they intend to play deep into October.
However, blaming his recent mediocre performance on his weight is pure conjecture and nothing more.
jmills, likewise, and i await a rec from you, sir!
shame, I cannot speak ill of C. Too much respect for him, even in a down year. Fair comments though are always welcome. The “fat pig” variety, however, are not. Yes, we’ll see. He had that knee last year…this year, two DL visits… bears watching.
Gary Sanchez was named 1st team all minor league by Baseball America today. That’s good news at least.
Tyler, and Trenton came roaring back to win on brink of elimination in EL championship. Flores big night, Almonte 3-run homer. just wish they were a little closer to the Bronx.
Alfred, ” rec,” what does that mean ? Sorry. Don’t know if you have been trying to send to my e mail. Hate technological concerns
,…..so limting.
JAP……Watch video of CC and notice his shoulder and then the location of his elbow….It’s as though he’s trying to take the load off of the elbow and shouldering the ball …..
” Limiting ” – miss Spell
JAP-
Great news about Trenton. The system definitely has some talent, it’s just about 2 years away which is kind of frustrating since Cashman has been at this for a pretty decent amount of time now. Is Betances pitching at all or is he on the DL?
c.c is one of the biggest problem and not the solution. There is no other way to sugarcoat this. When the team needs him the most, he failed them. He is pitching like an acceptable no. 3 sp. There is so much baggage on this team that it is hard for the few to carry them.
Pat M, will take a gander on MLB archives tomorrow.Thanks. Didn’t get to watch closely tonight.
I’m down to one arm for now, so will call it a night.
Have a good one, folks.
Alfred, you have a thousand Fu@#king arms!
Tyler, think he’s supposed to pitch in AFL.
Good night, all.
jmills-
Less than 24 hours until the lockout
Night JAP. Thanks for the info!
jmills, that’s what I keep tellin’ Cashman
night, pal.
Gosh, I wish this season would just end and the PS would start so I can watch the Orioles get a clutch hit, or the Nationals pitch a great game, or the Athletics have a walk-off win…. *sob*
Ugh, I was at the games tonight, Martin was just pathetic,
i’ve been remiss. Haven’t checked box or emailed Chad. will do tomorrow. See you then I hope.
Tyler, dream about Red Barenson’s 6 goals
Alfred,… I’ll see you, then.
Hard to wrap my mind around – Yankees have not won ONE game when trailing in the 8th.
Harder still to wrap my mind around – I’m watching the Orioles and Oakland on September 15th, and the game has meaning.
Wonder if CC was rushed back. Maybe skip him a start or push back his start an extra day?
igotid, I think most of us are wondering the same thing.
Trish, send your team on a mission.
Thanks for being my friend !
jmills – I couldn’t ask for a nicer friend!!! Thanks for being mine in return
I’m really excited to see what Nova is going to bring. And also Andy. While it would be nice for both to come out and throw no hitters I think it’s at least a tad unrealistic to think we’ll find them in postseason form. But we’ll learn something from the outings, hopefully good!
More and more they are looking like key components to the SP. So I wait with excitement and anticipation.
Though it’s a one-run game, I think the A’s have schooled the O’s a bit.
GO A’S!
Who’s this Red Barenson you speak of?
Tricia…….Equally difficult to digest is that both The A’s and The O’s have better records than our Bronx Bombers
Pat M – try impossible to digest!
New thread >>>>>>>>>>>
A’s win by one. When A’s swept the Yanks in Oakland, they won all of the games by one run.
Perhaps this is the beginning of a Yankee-esque deja vu west coast swing for the O’s!
Bo, Red Barenson scored six four the effing Blues!
Red BERENSON – head coach of my beloved and often equally snakebit Wolverines.
RSM – I just don’t see how it is “pure conjecture” when a guy is markedly obese and has left 30 back in the rearview mirror to think that those things, in combination, could be of concern and could have something to do with poor performance.
