Romero vs. Yankees
TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., MY9
WEATHER: Still a nice day here at the stadium. Still a slight breeze blowing from left to right.
UMPIRES: HP Adrian Johnson, 1B Lance Barrett, 2B Gary Cederstrom, 3B Toby Basner
UPDATE, 7:21 p.m.: Jeter gets hit No. 200, but Rodriguez hits into a double play and first inning ends with no score.
UPDATE, 8:02 p.m.: Nix thrown out at the plate, but Chris Stewart comes through with a two-out RBI double to tie the game at 1. Would have been a go-ahead double except the ball bounced into the stands and Ichiro had to stop at third.
UPDATE, 8:03 p.m.: Good grief, Stewart just threw out Rajai Davis by about four feet. That’s pretty impressive.

Let’s go, boys. Sweep tonight, Phelps into the 7th, please, and about 7 Yankee runs, too.
Go Phelpsy, Go Yankees!!
No Jones, finally!!!
A what time is the game?
Swish is having some fun out there. Man that guy loves playing in the Bronx.
Luis it’s on right now. Jeter lead off single. The guy is a machine.
Jeter singles on 1st pitch!
Damn! they have it announced in extra-innings, but they have YES network. I just tune it in on MLB tv so no harm done. Thanks Unknown
Good at bat from Swish there….by the way, I think it was Jete’s 200th hit
Come on Alex, go Boom here.
RISP FAIL. Again.
The O’s called up Dylan Bundy…. he only has 16 innings at AA this year and 103 total in his minor league career. Really aggressive call-up.
Would have been nice to get another early lead but they are going to get to Romero. Just a matter of Phelps throwing well.
4 flyball outs for Phelps so far. Hopefully he can mix in some K’s and a few ground balls.
Phelps is throwing awfully high in the zone.
The yankees hitters are so bad in RISP Rickey Romero is going look like nolan Ryan against yankees
Now it’s on the TV…I guess they realized this was my9 game and not a YES game
Good two seamer there, liked the first one too
No YES?
I have the Jays broadcast only.
GO PHELPSY!
GO YANKS!
GO M’S!
Gutsy pitch
3-2 breaking ball. Wowza!
Here we go.
phelps looks awesome *sarcasm*
i don’t want to hear anymore how Phelps is a strike thrower….
this has the feel of the kind of game where a guy like Freddy Garcia will pitch some good ball and the Yankees will score some runs late to win and sweep the DH
Phelps has 33 walks in 87 big league innings. Yeah, he’s not a strike thrower lol.
He is a strike thrower…He has been squeezed a little and probably got tired after throwing so many pitches..We need a nice and long inning from the O and a very economical inning from Phelps
Hard to believe that Romero has a 5.83 ERA this year. Talk about a regression….
An oppo shot from McGehe
You don’t get to see that kind of play very often
The ump does have a tight zone
Yeah that 3-2 pitch was close. Lets go Ichiro!
Ricky has been showing up Adrian Johnson a lot tonight. I wonder how much more of that HP ump will take.
It’s Ichiro’s world right now, too bad Nix didn’t get in there safe.
Not watching…. was it the right move to send him there?
And Ichiro should be batting 2nd with Swisher 8th.
Rasmus looks like one of the baseball Fury gang members from the Warriors
What a crappy slide by Nix (if you could call it that)
Yup Tyler…The throw from rasmus was right on the money, Nix scores on that play 8 times out of 10
Way to go, Stewie!
Tough break on the ground rule double. Ichi scores easy on that ball.
Nice job by the BUC
YES!!!
Thanks Luis! At least they got the run anyway!!
Not watching…. was it the right move to send him there?
——
Definitely.
Man, that Rasmus is an ugly dude.
C’mon, Cap’n. Ducks on the pond.
Walks this inning hurting Romero this time.
Haha, when he played in St. Louis, there was actually a pretty high percentage of pretty attractive women who loved Rasmus. That was when I realized for certain being a big league ball player was the greatest gig in the world.
C’mon Phelps
Could very well be 3 to 1 right now. Nix out on a bang bang play at the plate and that double by Stewart going in the stands cost Ichiro scoring.
BUC!!!
Much better, Phelpsie. Hang in there. Nice catch, Swish!
One eye on game, one eye on online game I’m playing with my niece.
Hoping the good King Felix shows up later tonight.
Hey that O’s fan was right. O’s alone in first place!
Oh, wait a minute…
Time for the heart of the Yankees lineup to produce this inning
Purely a side note, but I am pretty sure I just saw Jeff Kent on the new Survivor Season that starts tonight.
Looks just like him and his name is Jeff.
Unknown-
It is him.
Wow. That’s weird. Didn’t expect to see him as a player on there.
Unknown-
It is kind of weird that he’s doing it…. I don’t know if he’s doing it for the money or just the challenge of it. Hopefully it’s the latter….
For giidness sake Aroid please do sime steroid this team is si bad at hitting
Nats already at 90 wins and on verge of clinching a playoff spot. Really amazing.
Kent was always a wise ass. He’s probably a good match for the game.
The yankees make every picture look good

The yankees make every picture look good
—–
They really do. Romero hasn’t won a game in ages.. you’d think we’d not make him look like an ACE, then again, we make all SP look like ACE so it’s not unexpected with this lineup.
That was a very good CU
The O is putting an ugly number next inning
Talk about generality.
Go FB high and in
Excellent sequence from Phelps….Now we are scoring big
PHELPSY!!!!!!!
Jeff Kent on Survivor? That must be where everybody went. Nice inning for Phelps, pitch count already too high.
Phelps is changing speeds and eye level beautifully. That last at bat was a perfect example, went high and in, and then came back with the CB on a 3-2 count. Both very intelligent and gutsy.
This Lawrie kid has some arm
I wish Ichiro and Jeter could just use Ghost Runners all night long.
An Ichi hit!!
Girardi needs to move Ichiro up to 2nd.
Well….We’ll get him next inning
Can we say they scored all their runs in the first game its painfull two games of bat hitters
What the pitch limit for Phelps?…It shouldn’t be low since it wasn’t that long ago that he was starting
*What’s* should say
MG,
If you are still around…I see what you mean about the way he misses on the outside of the plate to RHB…He sometimes overthrows the Fb and yanks it toward that part, like he just did with Hecheverria
Another big 3-2 CB
Another nice on for Phelps. A couple more would be beautiful.
can stewart be the everyday catcher as they break in austin romine?
he’ll hit better than martin next season
This is our inning to score a crooked number!!!!!
I think Phelps is gassing a bit. Gotta get someone up.
When will someone get big hit an not waste good outing

LOL! agreed
Aroid. Again with Risp its smells like adud
Arod guessed wrong on that one
Come on Curtis….Nice and compact
A=Rod is such a guess hitter. Pretty pathetic.
Curtis is going yard here.

I know you are probably 10 years old but you are aware enough to know the Yankees are 2nd in MLB in OPS and in the top 3 in runs scored, aren’t you?
If they are horrible what does that make the other 30 or so teams that have lesser statistics?
Snoopy bobble head night and boo Arod night at the Stadium, I see.
Arod looked bat that at bat.
Some random thoughts:
It’s good to see Andy come back, and pitch as well as he did today. Just his presence makes me feel like the Yanks have a run in them this year.
Phelps looks like he is the real deal. Nothing seems to phase him. Phelps kind of reminds me of Nova–not to mention Andy– in this regard. He seems utterly unflappable. Once Phelps has been given the ball, he knows exactly what to do with it.
It’s amazing what a little 3-game winning streak can do for one’s otlook
When will the yankees buy AROIdS contract out
This team goes as Arod goes, plain and simple.
Look at his performances in the PS since he became a Yankee. That bat in the middle of the order HAS to produce.
There was alot of magic to 2009 – alot of heroics. I’ll settle for just one or two.
Take us there, Arod.
Or not.
SOS, can’t buy a hit with RISP, making Romero look like King Felix, this team needs guys who can put the ball in play
Having these two idiots bad one on top of another against a slow pitcher like Romero is pretty ugly to watch. Yanks, I hate to say it, need a homer or two.
Curtis with a K…..his K’s are alarming
Would be nice to put this game out of the range where Girardi is tempted to use Joba or Soriano, who I don’t think should be pitching in this game (Robertson is a given to not pitch).
Who do we keep next year, Arod or Ichiro?
Can’t buy a hit.
3rd time through the lineup here for Phelps.
Alex guessing twice, Grandy non compete. Risphits rare. Oy.
Romero is a good pitcher having a very bad half season but he’s always given the Yankees fits, other than Ichiro and Nix none of them have good numbers against him.
I see the Yanks have brought their choking shoes out tonight… Lol
Enjoy paying Arod $100+M to strike out with guys on base for the next 5 years.
I’ll tell you one guy who once crushed Romero….Brett Gardner. Grand Slam in 2010. Ugh.

=======================
That may have been true at one point, but this tam doesn’t seem all that reliant on ARod. This team did just fine when ARod went on the DL. The team didn’t struggle until Granderson slumped for an extended period.
Phelps has done his job. I think he should go one more inning too.
Phelpsie looking good….
Phelps doing his part, let’s see if offense can come alive
I think phelps is going out for the 7th….Let’s give him a lead, he has pitched very well
I hope you guys enjoyed 2009.
Yanks won’t win another for at least a decade.
They are one of the worst teams in risp an loaded bases they scored mostly on homers an rbi in first half of the year after allstar break the can’t hit homers they can’t score if they are doing that great hitting they wouldn’t have Orios come from 10 games back same age u called me
You need to play Nunez to spark and run this team. Jeter, Nunez and Ichiro can make things happen.
Boy, Phelps has done his job and then some. Paging Yankee Offense, pick up on line two. Two runs in thirteen innings?
Some games we can buy a lot of hits, some games we can’t buy a hit, some games we’re in between. Romero has had a down season but it doesn’t mean he forgot how to pitch. Players get up for Yankee games. If he’s doing a decent job, we’ll deal with it. He won’t be in the game forever.
Now every game is going to go the way we want it to go. But as long as something happens to hep the Ys win, a win is a win.
I totally believe we’re going to win this game.
Nice job by Phelps tonight, very nice…
“Now every game is going to go the way we want it to go.” = not every game is going to go the way we want it to go.
Well, Nix hit the ball hard twice with nothing to show for it.
Wow.
“They are one of the worst teams in risp an loaded bases they scored mostly on homers an rbi in first half of the year after allstar break the can’t hit homers they can’t score if they are doing that great hitting they wouldn’t have Orios come from 10 games back same age u called me”
I don’t know whether to respond to the amazingly bad grammar, awful sentence structure, or bad baseball analysis in this post.
I can’t say this enough. What a pickup Ichiro was for us. Still can’t believe we have him.

They’re twelfth in the league with RISP, which ain’t great, but it doesn’t make them one of the worst team.
Straw –
No offense Andymelillo.
Each Ichiro hit is another nail in Jonesie’s coffin.

========
That was a brilliant move by Cashman–no question about it.
He’s wasted batting 8th, unfortunately.
Ichiro really needs to be playing every game, there is no reason for Jones to be in the lineup again.
Come on Captain.
We are scoring….Jeter brings Ichi home
How about knocking the illegitimate love child of Ricky Ricardo and Cesar Romero out of this game.
Oops…Maybe next time
Well, at least we got his pitch count up.
Maybe next inning. Babaloooooooo!
Romero has walked a village and the yankees have 1 run to show…
Still can’t hit with RISP.
Another wasted opportunity.
Too little too late. We all knew it, but Giradi and his binder refuse to choose. This year’s Yankee theme.
You got some ‘splainin to do…
I don’t think that they’re wasting Ichiro, batting him eighth. Ichiro needs to prove that he should bat in the top part of the order. I would love to bat him lead off, and hit Jeter behind him. However, Ichiro needs to demonstrate that he can produce at a high enough level. The number-2 hole is wide open forsomebody to grab it–Granderson, Swisher, or Ichiro all could claim it by getting hot over the next couple weeks.
MG September 19th, 2012 at 9:05 pm
Ichiro really needs to be playing every game, there is no reason for Jones to be in the lineup again.
——-
Seconded.
Isnt this a spot for Phelps?
Well for a team that. Number one in homers four in scoreing Rickey Romero looks like second comeing of cy young
Go get him, Joe.
Don’t know how much Phelps has left. The error hurts.
I guess once we get through the lineup the first time, I don’t see how Ichiro is being wasted in tonight’s game. It isn’t like the hitters around him never hit. In addition, that’s tonight’s game. In today’s game he lead off and he has in some other games. He’s valuable wherever he is.
I didn’t look at Romero v. our lineup but I would bet there is some method to the madness if you do take a look at the stats.
Wow. Ichiro showing off the arm there.
Jeter should probably stay at DH for a couple of more games. He couldn’t push off of his ankle at all to make that throw to 1st base. Really bad time to make an error.
Is this a squeezy home plate ump?
This should be phelps last batter
I really like that Joe is giving Phelps a chance to win the game.
Joe the binder, go get the kid he links gassed
I would go to the bullpen here. Phelps is losing it and the small zone from the ump isn’t helping at all. Bad decision by Girardi to leave Pehlps out there for another batter.
I’m HOPING that if he loses this guy Joe comes and gets him, for him and for the game.
If this were the National League, maybe Phelps could have hit a 3-run homer. Other than that, is there anything more anybody could ask of him? Nice job.
Romero is a good pitcher. I really don’t understand the complaints here….
It’s too bad Phelps couldn’t get that last out. I wanted him to get the win.
Two batters too late…hope Wade gets out of it.
AWESOME job by Phelps. Happy for him, happy for us.
GET EM BOONE!
“Romero is a good pitcher. I really don’t understand the complaints here….”
Agree
Excellent outing from the kid….Let’s hope the reliever picks him up…And later the offense puts a pretty number ( per JS
)
Girardi really left Phelps out there to dry. I don’t know why I am surrpised because Girardi is terrible at having a feel for when a pitcher is done. Logan’s arm is going to fall off one of these days.
Sorry, meant that I hope Boone gets out of it. But this makes me very nervous.
I’d wager that Jeter is also moving up on another all-time list- “highest percentage of errors that come around to score”. Not kidding – he has a knack for that forever
Romero with the 5.8 ERA, seven hits and 5 BBs in six innings. That good pitcher? Okay.
Going to close my eyes
Wow, Girardi is absolutely incompetent. Phelps has been spot starting most of the year and Girardi leaves him out there with a 100+ plus pitches. After the error by Jeter he should have been pulled.
Logan has been so good for us. He’s been used a lot. I hope he still has bullets in the gun for the psotseason.
Hi, there!
That was an IBB to get to Logan vs the lefty
Phew.
Boooooooooooooooooooone!

Good job by Logan and good thing that his arm is still attached. Now maybe the offense can actually wake up.

My comment was that he is a good pitcher having a very bad half a season-he was an All Star last year with an ERA below 3
Well, that did work. Scary. Good work, Logan!
It won’t happen in PS, because Phelps will be in the pen, no need for one-side specialist! Great outing

I’m sure that you can find your way to his stats for the previous two seasons. He’s a good pitcher that has always been tough on the Yanks.
Absolutely atrocious ABs with Risp.
Yes! It’s the Latino version of the Ronan Tynan freeze!
Yeah I mean Romero is having a bad year, but he’s a tough pitcher. Although in his last start he did give up 8 runs in 1.1 innings as part of a 0-16 loss to the A’s. The Yanks always make struggling pitchers look great. It’s their DNA.
Would be cool if it turned out that Jose feliciano was actually our Luis
“Romero with the 5.8 ERA, seven hits and 5 BBs in six innings. That good pitcher? Okay.”
Romero has had an off season but he is a very good pitcher. We’ve also had pitchers who have allowed a lot of hits and walks at times and have Houdini’d their way out of situations. I don’t remember anyone deciding they’re not good pitchers (well except for the usual suspects who say that about all of our pitchers who are less than perfect). In fact, if they end up getting out of it and winning the game, we’re onto the next game, feeling fine about the pitcher.
I’m sure that you can find your way to his stats for the previous two seasons. He’s a good pitcher that has always been tough on the Yanks.
—————
I’m sure I could. But one run on 12 men on base in six innings is not performance. A little sense of urgency is missing.

That’s a little unfair. The Yanks have a very good, but very inconsistent offense–they can score 13 runs one night, and 0 the next. Nevertheless, it can be frustrating as heck to watch them.
Every team in the league do seem to have their own WS against the Yankees

“I’m sure that you can find your way to his stats for the previous two seasons. He’s a good pitcher that has always been tough on the Yanks.”
True enough.
Romero was part of a Jays team that was supposed to have been very competitive until about 60% of the team went down. So the pressure on him and what’s left of the rotation has been inordinate. Talk about trying to haul the water. I’m not surprised his numbers are down this season.
Still, he hasn’t forgotten how to pitch, I don’t believe. He’s been awesome in the past.
Hey, Tom! Maybe Phelps could pinch-hit!
Next, we’ll get “Tip your hat”. Won’t wash. Romero was pedestrian at the very best. A runner in scoring position in all six innings. Give me a break.
Anyway, Go Yanks!

you guys are underestimating Phelps.
he will shut them down on 2 hits over 7.
Romero has lost his last 13 consecutive decisions. A Blue Jay record.
Just throwing that out there.
Romero should be a good pitcher and has been a good pitcher in the past. This year though he’s been terrible and it’s been consistent all year.

Imagine if that were a Yankee pitcher who had a runner in scoring position in all six innings and give up one ER. We’d be amazed at his ability to Houdini his way out.
I guess it all depends whose dugout you’re sitting over.
In any event, if you feel he was pedestrian, that’s fine too.
Not a big deal either way IMO
In all fairness, we’ve had our chances to score…Some didn’t because of great defensive plays ( Lawrie and Rasmus come to mind)or tough breaks (Stewie ground rule double)…Still, the heart of the order has been silent

Wow. Arod is freaking useless tonight.
Really bad game to be tied going into the 8th…
Arod should be worse in next season.
He is done.
I’d be the first to acknowledge good pitching.
I don’t know why the fans are booing Arod. It’s not like anyone else besides Ichiro is doing anything. The Yanks don’t have the bullpen to win this game. It stinks to see Phelps pitch so well and the offense do absolutely nothing.

They won Trisha, but he didn’t get the W.
I guess I don’t really care about Romero. If you think he’s good, that’s good. If you think he’s bad, that’s good too!
GO YANKS!
Play tonight, win tonight.
Sherman is making a point by cherry picking stats.
Romero started against the Yankees 11 starts ago and gave up 6 runs and 12 hits in 6 innings.
He’s been tough on them in his career, that’s the way it goes sometimes in baseball.
They need to win this game, if they do then no one can have a complaint, particularly since Aaron Laffey starts tomorrow and the Yankees hit him really hard the last time he face them.
Talk about abuse, Logan is the posture child. How many appearances can one pitcher have in one season before their arm falls off.
why isn’t ichiro up before “rbi” guys cano and arod, tisk tisk….

Here goes Joe with the Lefty-Righty crap again.
Well so now Romero is out of the game. In fact he was out of the game last inning too.
Nothing to worry about now, hopefully. Runs a plenty.
The Yanks have had trouble hitting leftys. Despite his overall numbers this year, Romero does have pretty good stuff especially if he can locate.
Don’t know why they are booing a 30 million a year player down in the stretch?
It seems any pitcher that has some good soft stuff going is tough on the Yanks.
someone saw WP-Romero and thought it was winning pitcher when it was wild pitch.

Poor Boone. Geeze he’s been an incredible workhorse for the Yanks. Nobody’s fault that things sifted out the way they did. But I’d hate to see him rendered ineffective in the post because of overuse. I’m not predicting it, just concerned about how much he’s had to pitch.
I would say bad abuse. Isn’t that what happened to Scott Procter? Overused one year and useless the next?
how can he pull Logan after he got two quick outs like that plus the last out of the 7th?
I briefly had the Nats-Dodgers game on before this one started-the Dodgers were down 2 with a runner on 2nd and 1 out with Ethier batting-Davy Johnson brought in a lefty, he got Ethier and then got to face Kemp (walked him on 3-2), then he struck out Gonzalez. Girardi would have made two pitching changes for sure.
Before today Arod had ~.900 OPS since returning, so the boos are a little unwarranted.
Logan has 51 innings in 74 games. He can get into a lot of games because he doesn’t throw a lot of pitches in his actual appearance.
Clap it up for Boone. I guess Joe didn’t burn him out from his whole 3 pitches early today like some people were worried about.
I really wish that Girardi would give Wade a chance to see what he can do. Girardi is like Torre in that you are his boy or you aren’t. Eppley in a play off game would be a disaster and Joba isn’t consistent enough. Wade could be there best option in the 7th inning.
There is a common recurrence when this pitchers that aren’t supposed to beat us do so….They ALL have a very good CU, or very good off speed offerings…Incredibly, we have more chance against power pitchers
The Yanks have had trouble hitting leftys. Despite his overall numbers this year, Romero does have pretty good stuff especially if he can locate.
———
That’s just it , he didn’t locate, twelve baserunners in six innings
Runs now please.
Scott Proctor made 83 appearances and pitched 103 innings. Logan has made 74 and pitched 51. They are not comparable.
Before today Arod had ~.900 OPS

how did you type that tilda?
So the move worked there, but we need to win the game now before we get to extras.
Nice job keeping the ball down. Now lets score some runs.
Eppley kept us in the game. Good going, son.
“stop making exuses they don’t know how to win if they don’t homer.”
That’s not entirely true. In fact with the callups in, they’ve played a lot more effective small ball and have definitely hit with RISP.
“stop makeing exuses about Aroid he is done”
He sure doesn’t look done to me. I don’t worry about singular games. He’s looked really good since he’s come back.
BUT – you don’t have to see it the same way, and if you don’t that’s fine too. Not everyone agrees on how to view these things anyway.

The discussion wasn’t about performance. Nice try though.

should be first key on your keyboard, top right.
Offense wake up!!!
the Yankees need to scratch out a run, get 3 outs and go home with a sweep.
It wouldn’t be pretty but all wins count the same…

With my tilda key…
C’mon, Grandy. Get us started.
–Scott Proctor made 83 appearances and pitched 103 innings. Logan has made 74 and pitched 51. They are not comparable.–
Are you sure it’s the innings that are concerning or is it the appearances because they warm up the same way whether they pitch to one batter or ten.
I agree we need to see what Wade has. Maybe Joe’s waiting for a comfortable enough lead before he does it.
I’d be for a bunt here.
Or at least a PH.
Bunt?
nix will bunt
I am really surprised that Girardi is willing to use Soriano again tonight. It’s really not smart with a guy that has his injury history.
Steal then bunt?
no tilda on mine
Why did they do that? Now there’s a risp!
Love to see how the team that was not going to bunt has been bunting! Small ball has been part of the game, or an attempted part of the game, recently.
That’s how teams win games.
To back Bo Knows a little here….Phelps gave a clinic of pitching…Romero just got either lucky, great defensive plays and some of our hitters are vulnerable to the CU. But in most cases a competent offense would have scored a few runs.
my tilda is shift + `
(left of my 1 key, but it’s a non-standard keyboard)
Girardi thinks that he is outsmarting the opposing manager. Now here comes a lefty to face ice cold Ibanez. Girardi really makes some weird decisions.
Bunt and Chavez?
Let Nunez PH here….
Nunez please….At least you have a fighting chance and he can run….
uh oh, it could be Jones time if a lefty is coming in.
It’s either that or Pearce…
No mick? What’s your very first key, over the Tab key on the right hand side?
If you really want to use it, you can always do the old copy and paste I guess.
~
these bats hit fastballs only.. so glad swisher is batting second. I’d love to tell Joe personally that he is an idiot. there’s 10 games left for us to W 90 games and we need 6 W’s.
Does Girardi really think that Farrell is afraid of Pearce? Insane.
i like pearce here.
Pearce over Jones. Jones might finally be in the dog house.
“The discussion wasn’t about performance. Nice try though.”
OK. Seemed like a bunch of whining and complaining more than a discussion anyways.
But whatever you say.
Hey everyone!
Let’s Go Yankees!!!!!
“(left of my 1 key, but it’s a non-standard keyboard)”
That’s where mine is also.
mick, I apologize. Absolute DUH. It’s the left-hand side.
Why is Pierce pinch hitting and not Nunez?
Hey Y’s Guy!
Lost my Direct TV right now….It’s pooring down here
….I would have liked Nunez
Grandy great job.
Sac fly now is all we need.
Grandy! Huge SB!
OK, Grandy!
It’s the little things that mean a lot. Well I guess stealing bases isn’t reallly a little thing!
Hey, Grandy can still steal a base.
Huge steal there!
Curtis!!!
Ugh.
~
thanks trish
Sac fly here could mean the game.
Our Yanks have been on fire trying to make things happen.
Guess not this time.
Damn, c’Mon Ichiro!
mick –
Pierce was bad in that spot because he swings for the fences a lot. A nothing hitter with a big swing.
Yeah, Nunez was a much better choice than Pearce.
Joe an idiot….These Yankee scrubs swinging in Jello using chops sticks.
Ichi-RBI?
Can Curtis steal home? Damn
Ichi needs a 2 out hit.
Crowd trying to start an ICHIRO chant. I love that.
Nunez would have been a much better choice than Pearce, he usually makes contact.
ICHI ICHI A YA YA YA
ICHIRO MAN ON FIRE!!!!
Arigato!
Ichiro!!!!
Resign Ichiro or the 30 million dud….????
Six hits in the double header. WOW! Where has this guy been?
Ichi does his job. Nice.
Ichirooooooooo
ICHI-NIGHT!!! Sake is free tonight!!
Luis, you are not blind after all, LOL
All Ichiro All the time.
Game.
So see, it doesn’t matter that he batted 8th. And it doesn’t matter that it’s one run. Sometimes the Yanks are going to have to win one-run games too.
Of course, if the Yanks get more runs, that’s not bad either.
Where has he been? Hiding in Joe’s binder….
Who closes?
Does Joe ride the hot hand or does his undying loyalty to A. Jones persevere?
Tune in tomorrow…

7!
what a great piece of hitting by Ichiro there, he is ‘en fuego’…
Nice hitting by Ichiro. I hope Joey binder will just let him play everyday now and forget about Jones. He looks like the old Ichiro today just putting the ball where he wants it to go.
At least we won’t see Pearce ever again in a few weeks!
Nice job byIchiro still don’t understand Pearce over Nunez?..
it does matter he batted 8th
you are relying on luck
chances are greater if he bats 2nd
why not bat arod 9th and jeter 4th?
Wait! Ichiro is 7-8 against lefthanders? Did I hear that right? I thought Girardi basically proclaimed Ichiro useless against lefthanders?
jmv September 19th, 2012 at 9:55 pm
Luis, you are not blind after all, LOL
========================
Finally with Ichiro 4 for 4 vs lefties today maybe, just maybe Andruw Jones will now occupy a seat at the end of the bench.
I’m guessing Joe will push Soriano to close again.
Possible he might go with Joba since he didn’t throw many pitches (I don’t like that idea because of him just coming off TJ surgery).
Garcia will close out the game….:)
I wonder what happened to Jones. He was so good during the first half, and he completely disappeared in the second.
Soriano is probably going to pitch the 9th. I don’t think it’s a good idea after getting 4 outs in the first game. But Joey binder is going for it.
you still have nunez , if you batted him pearce plays 1st and you lose nuney
Jones is a waste.
Joey Binder doesn’t seem to understand he has a bench full of players or he would have used Nunez instead of Pearce, he can play Dickerson in the outfield no matter what.
Steal here Ichiro. You can do no wrong right now.
In his prime, there was no one that I feared more in a big spot than Ichiro.
Ichiro better be in the 2 spot tomorrow over Swish..
i’m liking this rejuvanted Ichiro. Really adds another dimension to this team. Now if Gardner comes back healthy next year. Keep Ichiro IMO.
ichiro cant hit leftys, ~ 4000 hits and he cant hit a lefty
Quick trade Ichiro while his value is high.
BOOM. Nice steal.
i knew that tilda would come in handy
Ichiro, “He’s done everything but sell the hot dogs!”
Ichiro better slow down on the bases so he has some energy for tomorrow.

——————————————-
He was alright in the first half… he had a couple huge 1st half games which padded the stats. His splits have been weird all year though. He hasn’t been good against leftys which really was his one “job”.
ICHIRO REBORN
Haha. Ichiro….
Wow!
GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!! WE HAVE ICHIRO!!!!
Someone pinch me.
Love this running game.
Ichiro > Swisher for next year. Book it Cashman.

But of course that move would require some common sense.
How many energy drinks did Ichiro have today? Wow
And why are the fans being A-HOLES to A-Rod again? I know he’s having a bad day. But did they forget how bad they were without him?
Great games from Ichiro. Talk about spark. Would be so nice to have him with Nunez in the lineup
pearce is going to 1B for Mcgeeeheeheeheee
nuney would have been burned if this game goes long and jeter needs a blow
And for the posters who have proclaimed Ichiro as useless and said the trade was not any kind of upgrade for the Yanks – and there were some who have said this – I give you my (in)famous line -
Good waiters get good tips.
This is like Damon & matsui. Older guys can produce when you can keep them rested & Girardi is a master at getting the max out of aging vets by keeping them rested
I hope JOe doesan’t burn out Soriano trying to lock up the AL East. Soriano is going to need the day off tomorrow, come what may.
And why are the fans being A-HOLES to A-Rod again?
===========
dont feel sorry for arod he’s a big boy
Wow the Jays can’t believe it. LOL
Wow, that was so strike 3!
Swish with bases loaded: K, BB or Grand Slam. I pick GS
I really hope that the Yanks bring Ichiro back next year. It should be an easy decision since he is definitely going to get a big pay cut and a 1 year deal is perfect for the Yanks.
I would love to see Swisher drive one to the opposite field.
If Ichiro was right handed, he’d be more like to be back. Cant see an all lefty OF. Would love to see it somehow.
Blue Jays manager just cursed on tv
Real close…
8 hits, 7 walks, 7 stolen bases.
Time to break the game open.
Jeter just got a HOF call on ball 4
Inconsistent zone by the Ump, that pitch Jeter walked, was called a strike earlier…He never called that one to Phelps though…What I like is that the Jays are probably on the bad side of the ump now

That CB is nasty.
Here comes another offspeed pitch….
SWISH….No hero swings please

Nasty pitches but that was pretty predictable. Throw Swish breaking stuff in big spots and it’s automatic.

A-Rod might be one of those guys that ppl miss when he’s gone. We’ll see how much they don’t like Alex 2-3 yrs from now when they have someone playing third that isn’t on his level during his prime yrs.
“Jeter just got a HOF call on ball 4″
No harm no foul
Swish is cold as the Poles. A couple of bench days worked with Grandy, maybe is time…
It stinks to see Swisher go down so easy against off speed pitches every single time. As long as Ichiro is hitting I would bat him lead off and Jeter 2nd. Swisher isn’t good enough to bat 2nd. Everyone knows not to throw him a fastball and it’s an easy out.
Soriano has definitely earned his salary this year.

Depends a lot on Ichiro. If he thinks he’s still an everyday guy, he won’t sign with the yankees.
I’d be surprised of he agrees to a lesser role with the Yankees

I think the jury is still out on Swisher. He’s been terrible in September thus far. I think it really comes down to his postseason. He’s been terrible the past 3 postseasons (even in ’09 when they won it all)… if he stinks it up again, I’d be more than happy to let him walk and get creative.
Tar September 19th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
That CB is nasty.
=========================
It was…But still, Swisher tried to hammer those two pitches… What a player he would be if he could contain himself and keep the swing compact and not try to hit it out and be the hero every time the game is on the line.
God bless Sori.
Knew Dickerson would be in. Good move.
I don’t want Swisher back…but a definite YES to Ichiro.
I don’t think Swisher will be back. He’s going to want a multi year deal. Angel Pagan or Torii Hunter will be cheaper options.
I do not believe any Yankee was going to put wood on that CB. Not excusing Swish’s slump, but they were just nasty.
Lord, I hope they don’t sign Whiffer again. Any manager who throws him a fastball is an idiot. Throw him a low breaking ball and he is sure to screw himself into the ground. I’ll take Ichiro in RF next season, along with many of my fellow posters.
Smart by Joe. Good decisions defensively in Right and at first
Worried about Sori in this spot….
Swish has 2 hits in the day game, including a 2 out RBI single in the 8th inning to knock in an insurance run.
I guess in the LoHud world you need to get that hit every time to be accepted…
Soriano’s hat says, “Mo Millions”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Soriano has nothing in this inning. It’s a lot to ask him to pitch again today.
I’d like to salute Ichiro for a great day/DH.
And then comes Swisher. “Oh my God, a breaking ball. Defensive swing, I don’t do no stinking defensive swings. I swing hard, not my fault it’s not a FB.
Uno mas.
1 more Soriano!! No 2 out walks and hits.

I wouldn’t be surpised to see Cashman pull off a surprise trade for an outfielder in the offseason. Look for him to try to land somebody coming off a down season the way that he did to get Swisher and Granderson.
Sori has been gold. You want to know the MVP on this team – take a look on the mound.
One more out. And we hold serve.
Pressure back on the O’s tonight against the King.
No wori, no sori…
