Let’s not fall in like with Ichiro. In baseball, hitters cannot be rejuvenated when their game depends quickness and a half extra step. Doesn’t mean he can’t play well from time to time. But instead of criticizing Girardi, praise him for handling an older player well.

Cano is in the lineup. Phew! ;)

I can’t help but worry about the possibility he will have a setback and continue to watch

  11. fantasygame101 September 20th, 2012 at 3:54 pm

arod needs to dh again so nunez sit. this scenario will continue so in the offseason, they should find a player who can hit and play 3b and make arod as the dh by default.

Why? I don’t mind telling that reporter a few choice words for the original tweet(that was obviously misleading) and his follow up tweets that clearly shows him backing off his original stance and then pleading for followers/Yankee fans to take a deep breathe and calm down.

    I don’t think so Willis.

No one is useless. Besides I enjoy the trolls because 9 times out of 10 they have to eat crow. I trust that the Yanks will win the division & I even appreciate what the O’s are doing with a former Yankee trained manager in Bucky!

Last year it was the RSux trolls. I don’t see them anywhere this year! LOL!

Lastly, someone can really only be a troll against a team that is very good to great or no one would care! LOL!

    O’s own whatever,

Bragging when you are in second place is dumb… Bragging if you make it to the top spot classless… Pick your poison… What I would suggest is enjoy the resurgence of your team without being obnoxious, you’ve got a great group of players, some very good young pitchers, a very good coaching staff.

BTW, A’s exploded for 12 runs today.

  32. Irreverent Discourse September 20th, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Let me know when the future gets here.

  33. Chip September 20th, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Not sure if it was mentioned on an earlier thread – Eric Duncan has retired from baseball to coach Seton Hall Prep…he’s 27 and spent this past season in AA for the Royals. Good guy – just couldn’t hit to save his life.

  34. luis September 20th, 2012 at 4:18 pm

I certainly hope that you do. Baltimore is a very nice place. Just don’t do what you don’t like other people doing it to you. About our future, we may be heading for a downward period. But it won’t last long. And we will still be in the hunt even on our down years.

  35. bruceb September 20th, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Francesa saying more or less what we said earlier. An unsubstantiated rumor that is “unfair” on both Cano and the Yankees. Plus Twitter has done nothing to further accurate reporting. He wasn’t even going to mention it until it went mainstream and was being discussed on other shows.

  36. Chip September 20th, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Also, it was mentioned today that the White Sox will decline Jake Peavy’s $22M option – I wonder what he’s going to get in Free Agency? Dodgers make a ton of sense for him, he’s 31 and him, Billingsley, Kershaw and Beckett could be really really good.

  42. Irreverent Discourse September 20th, 2012 at 4:24 pm

The rumor started yesterday on Reddit, a post by “a friend of Cano’s agent”.

Then idiot reporters and twitter took care of the rest.

  43. mick September 20th, 2012 at 4:24 pm

Some reporter in NC tweeted that he heard a rumor about Cano failing a test. He also said he couldnt confirm it. But the rumor spread online and it became a story.

I think the fact that Cano denied it puts it to rest. He didnt say “I dont know what you’re talking about” or talk in circles.

I can’t see him breaking his father’s heart that way. He has far too much love and respect for both his father and the game to do something like that. I think what’s honestly giving this legs is Peter Gammons’s comment when he was asked about it “yeah I’ve heard that stuff” and that he doesn’t think Cano didn’t do it, but that he would be surprised because “Boras guys are very careful.”

  73. Warning Track Power September 20th, 2012 at 5:11 pm

    Tom
How should this have been better?
The guy has nothing more to prove on the field.
His body won’t allow him to be anywhere near the player he once was & his body won’t allow him to be a productive player for a full season.
Most fans should not be surprised his body and skills have deteriorated in this manner. The guy used to dive all over the field, play played 153 games or more while with the Braves.
Over the course of 3 seasons he only missed 2 games. As a CF, that’s a lot of physical work for anybody.

I think it was this Tweet that made me the angriest. He makes an irresponsible and reckless statement under the guise of “reporting”, and then has the nerve to act indignant when people react to it. It’s called bad journalism, plain and simple. Twitter is turning journalists into TMZ reporters. I responded to it and asked him what he expected. No response as of yet ;)

  75. tomingeorgia September 20th, 2012 at 5:20 pm

    WTP,
You’re right, Jones has nothing to prove. As JAP mentioned the other day, he seemed to play 30 feet behind second base, then go catch a liner at the wall in right-center. Phenomenal. What makes me sad is that he fell off the cliff so young. He owes nobody anything. I’m simply mourning what might have been a sure-fire HOF career had it lasted a couple of more years when he was still in his twenties and early thirties. He certainly was useful to us for a year and a half. That’s all Im saying.
