TV/Radio: YES/WCBS 880
Umpires: Fieldin Culbreth HP, Mike Estabrook 1B, Larry Vanover 2B, Dan Bellino 3B
Weather: 75 degrees, cloudy
Best record race: The Yankees trail the Rangers by two games for the top mark in the league, 89-61 to 87-63.
Captain streaking: Derek Jeter is riding the 13th single-season hitting streak of at least 15 games in his career. He’s at exactly 15 now, having batted .388 in this span, at 26 for 67.
Update, 1:11: Nova throws five pitches, gives up back-to-back doubles to Drew and Smith, 1-0 A’s.
Update, 1:13: So much for a carryover from Nova’s last start, 10 pitches, three doubles, 2-0. Let’s see if he can settle down.
Update, 1:17: He settled downand got the next three guys.
Update, 1:22: How hot is Ichiro? He’s 12-for-16 hot after his solo shot, 2-1.
Update, 1:29: Nicely done by A-Rod to get his hand down on the plate and score on Cano’s single, 2-2. Walk and balk by Blackley set that up.
Update, 1:38: Bases loaded, two outs for ice-cold Andruw Jones, batting .197.
Update, 1:41: RBI walk on four pitches, 3-2.
Update, 1:44: Blackley got Stewart on a weak grounder for the final out, but he threw 40 pitches in the first. I think 23 were balls.
Update, 1:49: Much better for Nova, 1-2-3 second, three grounders.
Update, 1:55: Ichiro now 13 for last 17 after single. But he’s out trying to go to third on A-Rod’s single, although A-Rod moved up on the throw.
Update, 2:01: A’s just gave away a run, easy grounder booted by Pennington at second to extend the inning and Blackley wild pitches the run home, 4-2.
Update, 2:08: Nova gives up leadoff HR to Drew, shot over the CF fence, 4-3 in the third.
Update, 2:13: One-out four-pitch walk and then bloop single. Warmup action in the Yankees pen. Looks like Rapada.
Update, 2:15: Another walk. Nova is all over the place and now he’s done.
Update, 2:20: Excellent work by Rapada, 1-2-3 double play to get out of the bases-loaded mess that Nova left him. Josh Reddick had stepped in with 29 homers. The A’s are pulling Blackley, too. Jim Miller will take the ball. Not much good to say about either starter today.
Update, 2:36: Pennington RBI single, 4-4.
Update, 2:41: Two outs, first and third, Lowe comes on.
Update, 4:35: 1-2-3 inning for Joba.
Update, 2:44: Diving stop by Jeter and the Yankees hold it there.
Update, 3:00: Lowe gives up a leadoff single and then gets three straight. I saw Lowe was lamenting the other day that he might be left off the postseason roster, but he only blames himself for not pitching well enough this season. He had wanted to come here for a chance to pitch in October after the Indians let him go and after he went to Florida to tweak his mechanics.
Update, 3:06: Ibanez first pinch HR of the season, also snaps 0-for-18 slide, solo shot to right. So it’s 5-4 Yankees in the fifth.
Update, 3:08: Orioles leading at Boston 5-3, bottom six.
Update, 3:12: Ibanez stays on in right, Swisher moves to first. Ibanez hit for McGehee.
Update, 3:17: Lowe looking good, 1-2-3 sixth. Maybe they should consider him for the postseason roster, lot of October experience, although he can be erratic, too.
Update, 3:21: Derek Jeter singles to start the sixth, now has a season-high 16-game hitting streak. Lefty Jerry Blevins comes in to pitch.
Update, 3:24: Ichiro bunts Jeter to second. Relentless Orioles up 6-3 in the seventh, not that they’re playing a good team up in Boston.
Update, 3:37: 6-5 Baltimore, bottom seven. Relentess Red Sox? Logan coming in to replace Lowe after a one-out walk in the seventh, nice job by Lowe over 2 2/3.
Update, 3:34: Logan gives up a single and a sac fly to Carter, 5-5.
Update, 3:48: Just want to offer my condolences to Brian Cashman and family on the death of his dad earlier today in Florida. John Cashman Jr. was 72. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer. He had been a leading figure in the harness racing industry and was a member of the Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
Update, 3:55: Ryan Cook comes on after Nick Swisher bloops a leadoff single and Ibanez gets hit by a pitch.
Update, 3:58: Sacrifice by Nix. Second and third, one out for Granderson.
Update, 4:00: Granderson fouls out. Up to Chavez, pinch hitting for Stewart.
Update, 4:03: Chavez goes down looking, now just 4 for 32 as a pinch hitter. He stays in at third. Martin on to catch.
Update, 4:05: Ibanez can’t hold a ball at the wall in right-center, leadoff double.
Update, 4:09: One out now. And Boston-Baltimore 6-6 bottom nine.
Update, 4:13: Two outs, second and third, Jonny Gomez will pinch hit.
Update, 4:16: Logan hits Gomes with an 0-2 pitch. Bases loaded. Logan is out. Eppley is in.
Update, 4:19: Boston-Baltimore going to the 10th.
Update, 4:24: Eppley gets it done, fly to center by Cespedes.
Update, 4:25: Girardi resisting temptation so far, Joba is warming. We know he wants to avoid using Soriano and Robertson today if possible.
Update, 4:28: 1-2-3 eighth for Yankees. Joba coming in. Bottom 10 at Fenway, 6-6.
Update, 4:35: Joba strikes out the first two. Freddy Garcia throwing in pen. Grant Balfour takes over for A’s.
Update, 4:43: Top 11 at Fenway. Yankees have Chris Dickerson pinch running at first after Swisher’s one-out single in the ninth.
Update, 4:48: Two outs, Dickerson at second. Another walkoff hit for Martin?
Update, 4:51: Martin pops to second. Extra innings. Garcia takes over. Pearce will play first.
Update, 4:58: Garcia gets them 1-2-3, albeit with one fly to the left field wall. Top 12 now, Orioles 6, Red Sox 6.
Update, 5:05: Jim Thome delivers RBI ground-rule double, 7-6 Orioles, top 12.
Update, 5:07: On to the 11th here. 8-6 Orioles.
Update, 5:12: Red Sox are caving in, 9-6 Orioles.
Update, 5:18: Bases loaded, two outs for Reddick.
Update, 5:21: Garcia gets out of it thanks to a diving catch by Pearce at first. Looked like Teixeira there.
Update, 5:28: 1-2-3 11th for Yankees. Orioles now a half game back after 9-6 win in 12.
Update, 5:33: Three scoreless innings now for Garcia. On to the home 12th.
Update, 5:39: Ibanez takes a chance and makes second, a one-out double. Another walkoff hit for Martin?
Update, 5:44: After a wild pitch, Martin grounds to second. The throw goes home, Ibanez tries to knock over Norris, but Norris holds the ball. Ibanez is out.
Update, 5:48: Granderson walks, first and second, two outs. Chavez up. Norris looks like he got crossed up, passed ball, second and third.
Update, 5:51: Chavez draws an unintentional intentional walk, I think. Bases loaded. Jeter up. Just about everybody on their feet here.
Update, 5:54: Jeter flies out. On to the 13th. Nunez takes third, Chavez moves to first.
Update, 6:01: Well, this got out of hand in a hurry. Two-runHR by Gomes off Garcia, then Cespedes made it back-to-back blasts; this was a tremendous one to the second deck in left, 8-5 A’s. If the Yankees lose, they can blame themselves because they had golden chances for more runs in this game.
Update, 6:05: Batting practice for the A’s. Chris Carter reaches the second deck in left off Justin Thomas, 9-5.
Update, 6:14: Singles by Ichiro and A-Rod to start the inning.
Update, 6:17: Single by Cano, bases loaded. Pedro Figueroa is done after three batters. Righty Pat Neshek is coming on.
Update, 6:21: Wild pitch 9-6. Sac fly by Nunez 9-7.
Update, 6:24: Ibanez two-run shot, we’re tied again, 9-9.
Update, 6:30: Cory Wade on for the 14th.
Update, 6:36: Wade retires three straight. Tyson Ross on for the A’s.
Update, 6:42: Leadoff single for Chavez. Melky Mesa pinch runs for him, Mesa’s MLB debut.
Update, 6:43: Captain bunts him over. Ichiro up. Intentional walk. A-Rod up.
Update, 6:46: A-Rod singles to center, but Mesa misses third and has to go back. Bases loaded for Cano.
Update, 6:48: Cano hits into a 1-2 force. Nunez up.
Update, 6:51: Mesa can exhale, Yankees win 10-9 in 14 on error at first on Nunez’s grounder. Yankees still up by a game.

Line up 6-9 is not exactly murderer’s row. Hope for the best!
Both those hits were elevated. Keep the ball down!
Wow just a terrible start, and how is that a double!
This team cannot fall too far behind. Each run is a mountain these days.
The second double is probably caught by a good left fielder…
That was a double because it took Jones ten minutes to get to the ball.
All his pitches are elevated right now.
“The second double is probably caught by a good left fielder”
And the third one he’s thrown out at second base.
I love that Girardi finally moved Ichiro up to 2nd but of course he has to balance that move by playing Andruw.
Good job stranding that runner at third.
That’s a nice bounce back from Nova. No reason that the Yanks can’t put up a big number today against Blackley.
Lets get to work Yanks!!
Score early & often!!!!
Ok then. There’s the 2 for Oakland. Nova settles down, Yanks score 7, all is well.
How much more does Girardi need to see? Stop sticking with players who suck for so long just because they are veterans. I’d rather see Gardner play and bunt every at bat!
FB command has to be better, but good bounceback.
This guy has been watching Andy pitch.
ON FIRE!!!
Ichi en fuego y encencido y volcanito!
IchiBomb======
Ichiro is on some type of streak!
Gotta give credit to Girardi for finally realizing that the guy should be near the top of the order for now.
Good afternoon,
An Ichi-bomb!!
YF…Yup, it was good that they called some breaking balls…That should help him later on with the FB hopefully…He is having the same problems with opening up too soon and lowering the arm slot as a result the ball stays up.
That was a bullet. I’m impressed.

Ichi en fuego y encencido y volcanito!
=======================
Ichiro loves playing for a contender.. He has come up huge when the pressure games were here!!!!
That was a bad send. But a great result
jack-
I think Ichiro is in heaven right now playing for the Yankees. They have had their struggles but playing meaningful baseball means the world to the guy… great competitor!
Beautiful hitting and great slide.
YF,
Got an e-mail from our mutual friend
I will write him later on.
That was a crazy sent home…We were lucky there….Excellent at bat by Cano
2-2! That’s how you get back in a game quickly! Nice pick me up to Nova.
Alex saved that play. I can’t say enough about how much he leads by example.
Nice to see the top of the order coming through…. I’ll admit McGehee-Nix-Jones-Stewart doesn’t fill me with confidence but hopefully they’ll prove me wrong!
I would realease Swish here
Man, Arod is dead if that throw is even halfway decent. The really need a different 3B coach next year.
Luis
Tell him to come back for us!
Dumb Ichiro should be batting 8th and bunting. Small ball amarite…
Lohud gets another one right. Bat Ichiro higher in the order.
Tar September 22nd, 2012 at 1:31 pm
Luis
Tell him to come back for us!
=========================
Will do Tar
Good CU
McGehee or Pearce? What a choice. Come back Tex.
Jones up, oh well.
Please….Make up for the whole second half of the season
Here is your moment, Andruw.
(it’s ok to take a walk)
Don’t swing
Smiley has figured it out…leave the bat on your shoulder. Attaboy!
This Blakely guy has pitched a whole game on one inning
Got the lead back…Nova keep the ball down
Shutdown inning, PLEASE IVAN!!!!!!
Just your typical 40 minute 1st inning….
Ivan will be inspired by Andruw’s failure to fail!
I was riding home when I heard the three straight doubles….nice to see the Yanks bounce back
Nice inning by Nova!!!
Good bounce back inning…Still, that arm angle seems a little low, hence the horizontal movement on the ball. Especially on those pitches he threw toward the outside corner to lefties.
I don’t think Blackley even caught his breath. And here we come again.
let’s get another 3 runs
Ichiban
Nice wedge.
Ichiro!
Cespedes has a cannon of an arm
Ichiro didn’t learn his lesson last night.
Cespedes would have looked good in pinstripes
The ball must be a hot potato

Cespedes would have looked good in pinstripes
==============================
Not pretty…but I’ll take it
Run hard to first Robbie!
Swishey
When will the binder address Cano’s lack of hustle? Natural ability only takes you so far.
What was that? a CU? or a flat slider?
The homer was on a CB hanger
The Amount of homeruns the Yankee pitchers have given up this year is absolutely disgusting!!!!
CU
“Not to defend a longtime hardcore offender, but it was just as likely — actually more likely — a debt crisis reference rather than anti-Mediterraneanism.”
Thanks for spelling it out. libs always lead with their emotions lolol so typical.
CB
Someone go out and talk to Nova
Thanks nova
Liked the quick hook in this case
Shut the front door!!!!!
Liked the quick hook in this case
We’ll see after Rapada has finished this inning. Not confident.
Great job Clay. Every confidence in you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you rapada
Good job Rapady.
1-2-3 Rapadainski—( the magician)
to leave an established reliever like eppley or even lowe off the PS for Nova, who has been erratic and enigmatic would be a mistake.
Bruceb
Nova had so much trouble with his mechanics and his command that it was the right call. We can’t afford to lose many games, especially if you have a lead. It worked out, but if it didn’t it owuld have been the right call regardless.
I’m thrilled by Ichiro’s torrid run but he has to be smarter on the basepaths and realize he’s not 30 years old anymore.
No more baserunning mistakes by any Yankee from hereonin.
Nova is a #4 starter, nothing more, nothing less, until he proves otherwise.
He’ll probably be no better than a #3 starter but that’s ok as most pitchers can only be that.
Good job by Rapada who should be re-signed.
3-3 Red Sox-O’s
I like the aggressive baserunning by Ichiro. It took a very good throw to get him.
jacksquat September 22nd, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Me too…Even though, there is a basic baseball rule that you never surrender the second out on third.
I like Granderson in and Mr Jones out

It’s actually don’t make the first or third out at third base.
True JS
my bad
I thought the rule was not to make the first or third out at third base.
nova’s era is 6.79 in the second half, he should be pitching in the Dutch League…
great work supa Nova
El Vatos is sucking it up, no more no less.
I guess Freddy has fallen behind Lowe in the pecking order.
Hi guys! Is there a reson I have to keep doing the password every once in a while on this blackberry to comment? What does it mean to run out of, ” cookies?”
On better notes – my Canadian boy did good!!! Not to toot my horn, but I did say to get posterior to Martin
Lets explode for a crooked number!!!! Top of the order….
What a contrast to last night’s game. Terrible pitching all round. Going to be a very long afternoon.
Ichi, Ichi ya yah!!
Snuck home to check out the score. What?????
GO YANKS!
DON’T GO O’S!
Can’t wait to find out background on this one. Looks like Nova didn’t have a repeat performance.
Praying that Girardi doesn’t burn the entire pen and let’s Lowe get a few innings in anyway.
Tied in beantown.
Later y’all.
Lowe pitching for his Yankee life!!
there is a basic baseball rule that you never surrender the second out on third.
================
you mean 3rd out.
Surprised we haven’t seen Freddy yet. Red Sox sucking big time again I see.
would rather have lowe for middle relief than nova, sorry…
” Is there a reson I have to keep doing the password every once in a while on this blackberry to comment?”
It happens every once in a while on my android too. It’s probably worse on a blackberry because everything is worse on a blackberry.
Raul- Raul–Teed that one up!!!
That’s fine as long as it doesn’t mean more playing time for Ibanez.
Surprised we haven’t seen Freddy yet.
=======================
he hasn’t pitched in 2 weeks, safe to say he is done.
D Lowe working quick, growing strikes. Looks good.
Nice inning, Lowe. Glad I just got home, can imagine the comments about everything that has gone before.
Let’s go, boys. Tack a few on this inning. This will be a sweep!
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it is a bit alarming that scrap heap Lowe is now our most reliable long/middle relief option
R.I.P. to John Cashman
Cap’n starts us off. Love me some runs here.
It would be just like Girardi to take out Lowe for the next lefty, which would be a bad move. Ride Lowe as far as he takes them in this game.
Atta boy Jete
tucker,
Right on, and I actually rode in one of your cars.
If Lowe gets a ws ring with the yanks this year, has he already done more for the team than Mendoza did for the Sox ws winning team?
Tom, wish I had some Intellectual Property claim on that vehicle. Alas, no such luck.
Mmm… disrespecting Cano… smack that ball Robbie!
Make them pay, Robi!
It’s not a stretch to think Nova won’t be in the PS rotation come Oct.. but looking at the lights of eppley, wade and other arms with marginal stuff, I still take him over that crew… mid inning and long man duty perhaps. And that’s long fall from grace for Nova.
Good job cano. Nice piece of situational hitting there.
Cano looks like he sleep walking, no way is this guy worth 20 mill a yr or a contract more than 5 yrs
As long as Lowe keeps that sinker down, he’ll be alright.
6-5 o’s—7th
Longtimefan, the guys wirth about 5yrz and 60mil tops!
Would have left Lowe in there. His command is a bit off, but his sinker is still diving and he’s missing low.
Nyy girl penny. Sounds right to me
As I said …
Do we have any dependable relievers anymore? This is pitiful.
Girardi thinks way too much of Logan–average pitcher at best
Logan wasn’t horrible. The IF should have gotten that hit. Although if Cano got to it, Logan forgot to cover 1st again. Still that prevents the runner from getting to 3rd and scoring.
What a surprise Girardi’s obsession with bringing in a lefty hurts them again. Logan is so over used and isn’t even that good to begin with. Lowe was missing low there was no reason to take him out. Girardi needs a better feel for the game instead of always thinking he needs a lefty because a lefty is batting. Tex’s injury really hurts because any decent 1st basemen makes that play at 1st base. That’s a ball that Swish has to field.
Lowe could have induced a double-play ball. Reddick is usually a threat, but look at his swings today. Reddick is beyond frustrated. A manager needs to read the body language and swings of the opposition … Not a smart move to pull Lowe.
lowe was rolling…joe g thinks too much or not enough….not sure
If Tex hit that pop up, he’d be on second. Tex always runs out pop ups.
Veteran move by Ibanez.
lay it down nixie
a hit and HBP. if the yankees cant score, i give up
6-6 8th
another reason ichi up 2nd pays, nice bunt he laid d own with jeter on
6-6 8th
=====
didnt adam jones just homer?
Grandy against a lefty 2nd and 3rd one out isn’t the best scenario, so unless the a’s have someone up don’t get the change. he might walk Grandy if the bunt is successful, but then you get Dickerson for Stewart.
Do you pinch run Gardner for Ibanez at second?
they will pay for this
Contact Curtis PLEASE!
if they give him anything to hit
he fell for it
great ab grandy.. just awesome!!!!
c’mon he’s in foul territory someones gotta reach over and grab the ball push him…
Need a little help for the Sox today…
yanks cant even score with 1out man on 1st and 2nd? thats hideous!
this clown drops the ball…unreal
That ball has to be caught. You can’t have Ibanez and Jones in the outfield and not expect it to cost you. Just pathetic.
oakland will score this run… bet on it.
terrible
6-6 bot 9th
I hate when Logan faces righties. He either walks them or gives up a hit. Where is Wade, Joba or Eppley? Girardi’s obsession with Logan is really hard to figure out.
Where the hell is Dickerson, should be in right, ans Logan should be out
Grandy man continues to be all or nothing…kills this lineup
Can a righty get up in the bullpen please? Girardi is a totally different manger once September hits. Then he craps his pants and makes some weird moves.
You could have put Martin in Ibanez’ slot and moved swisher to RF and Chavez to first.
Drew can hit. This makes me nervous.
Good job having Ibanez in the field in a game where the Yanks risk falling back into a tie with Baltimore for the division lead, Girardi. Idiot.
Now Boston has tied the game so the Yanks could blow a chance to gain a game on Baltimore if Boston wins.
Cano is not worth a contract of five or more years or $20M per year.
He will turn 30 years old never having a season where he hit 30 or more homeruns AND driven in 100 or more runs (at this rate, 90 or more runs with his pathetic 79 RBI.)
He is a very good hitter but not as good a hitter (or OBP man) as Jeter.
He hits for power but not even close to as much as prime A-Rod hit for power.
Cano is Mr. Almost. Almost a 30-100 man. Almost having a breakout season. Almost a batting champion. Almost this, almost that, and almost isn’t good enough, or at least not good enough to ask for more money than Jeter got after 2000.
How could the Yanks possibly give a 31-year old (what Cano will be on 10/22/13) who has never had a breakout season (to me at least .300 BA, 30 HR, and 100 RBI which are not impossible) five years or more?
Four years at $18M per year for $72M taking Cano through age 35 would be the third highest contract by a homegrown Yankee player (position player or pitcher) in club history as it should be as Cano is not as great as Jeter or Bernie Williams and spare me “Cano plays 2B”. Get back to me when he is the best all-around player on a World Champion Yankee team like Bernie was in 1996, Jeter in 1998-2000 and 2009.
History shows Hall Of Fame secondbasemen are not great from age 32 on even though they have nice to MVP age 32 seasons.
Ryne Sandberg had a nice age 32 season hitting .309 but he had no power that year, missed his age 35 season, and was a shell of his through age 31 self from age 32 on.
Joe Morgan had an NLMVP age 32 season – the second of back to back NLMVP seasons – but was a shadow of his through 32 self from age 33 on (although he did have a nice age 33 season.)
Chase Utley is not a Hall Of Famer but look at him since age 31 – not the player he was before that.
There is no excuse for having a 40 year old play the outfield in a tied game in the 8th inning. No excuse. Girardi always goes for offense over defense and it might cost them the game if Gomes gets a hit. Why is Logan facing another righty? Girardi makes no sense sometimes.
this is very surprising as Girardi loves the match ups….
0-2 and he HITS HIM?????????? Come on!!!!!
Eppley vs Cespedes…
A hit, walk and hit batter to righties from a lefty pitcher. Now Joey binder finally brings in a righty. He might not like the righty options but you can’t leave Logan in there for a whole inning against rigthies. It doesn’t make any sense.
Girardi is keepin Ibanez in because the game is tied (for now). He’s hoping there is another HR in that bat today… My biggest beef with Girardi was pulling Lowe … Sox and O’s go extras.
Captain Clutch this is the same manager who had his ace intentionally walk Sean @#$%ing Rodiguez to load the bases to face Carlos Pena, the biggest homerun threat on the Rays and one of the biggest homerun threats in MLB in the season opener, and set up Pena’s grandslam the reason why the Yanks aren’t two games up on Baltimore with a chance to go up three games and only one game behind Texas for homefield advantage throughout the AL postseason as I type.
Where are all you “It’s only the season opener” morons now? (Not you Captain Clutch.)
Game 1 is just as important as any game after that.
hasn’t Baltimore played to extra’s like the last three games in a row
You have to give Eppley some breathing room. You can’t bring him in with the bases loaded.
Throw strikes dammitttt
Lucky that pitch hit Gomes or a run scores on a wild pitch.
The Yankees are trying hard to not take advantage of any breaks and lose this game
***EXHALE***

—————
Yeah cuz a guy who was 2 for 45 before his solo shot is gonna hit another homerun – are you serious?
LOL @ you wanting the worst defensive outfielder in the field.
Ibanez served his purpose (then go-ahead run), time for him to be replaced in the field.
Lucky.
Now get a run and pray Chamberlain can close it out.
disaster averted
Eppley saves Girardi’s bacon. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that he was once a major league manager. He really lacks the feel for certain spots and when to pull guys. He had a really quick hook on Nova and Lowe and then leaves Logan out there forever. They have to bring in Dickerson for defense in RF.
once a major league manager=once a major league catcher
1-2-3 inning.
Need a walk-off to win
YT,
Then another walkoff. Works for me.
glad to see that yankees gave a valiant effort that inning!!
Hopefully Joba can keep the ball in the ballpark. I still can’t figure out why he throws so many sliders.
Almost time to go back to your lairs, fellas. We win this game in the 9th.
96 mph fast balls where he’s throwing them will do the job, then the breaking pitch away will finish it.
Why was Eppley only used for 1 batter in a tied game? Very weird. Garcia???? please no.
thank you joba!
Atta boy, Jobs!!
Podsednik up 1st and 2nd 2 outs for bosox
Walkoff CANO, DON’T CHA KNOW!!!!!
If Garcia is really coming in for the 10th the Yanks better win it in the 9th. I would go with Wade before Garcia.
Ok Joba, now thru the heart of their order.
OK Offense-time to call this game a wrap and put the A’s away.
Red Sox threatening
Balfour reminds me of Farnsworth. Throws hard but very straight.
Swisher not looking for a simple hit
YT,
but he got one. I’ll miss him if they let him go.
But a simple hit it is!
Lets end it here so we don’t have to see Garcia give it up in the 10th.
SB-A hit down RF line and we can go home.
That pitch was low. Stupid ump…
Now the question is how many runs does Garcia give up in this inning. Just one or does he put this game out of reach?! I would definitely pitch Wade over him but he is in Girardi’s dog house.
Balfour is a good pitcher pitching good, so nothing to be embarrassed about there, but Ibanez took the only pitch he could handle (1st) and the RISP stuff is just, well, insane at this point
Jeezus Christ Garcia. Please don’t suck.
Let’s go, Freddy, hold these guys down. You know what you’re doing, just do it for one inning.
lost freddy G vulturing a win here?
That was amazing. But now let’s not press our luck by needing him to pitch another shut out inning.
Aceves coming into the Sox game. Yikes. I hope he’s not still mad at Valentine.
WOW!
GO YANKS!!!
As I said, Freddy, you know what you are doing. Thanks.
Now, let’s go boys! If it’s a vulture win for Freddy, I’ll rejoice.
Absolutely expected to come in to find out the score of the game, not to see the game still going on.
I’m thinking these are good signs for the Yanks. Another extra inning win?
Freddy’s in? YAY FREDDY!!!!!
Damn. Thome just hit one out.
It looks like the Yanks are going to have to win this game on a homerun. They have so many dead spots in the lineup now and they will never get back to back hits.
This is AGONY.
OK Balfour at 27 pitches. Time to win the game.
Guess I got that wrong. Igt looked like a homer but maybe it was a GRD. Anyway, the O’s went ahead by a run.
Great job Aceves.
Did anyone seriously expect the Os to lose an extra-inning game? Team of destiny.
Expected? Probably not. Hoped? Big time.
There you go, trisha, another great call.
These umps are terrible. You could tell right away that he wasn’t on the bag.
8-6 now. Aceves is probably pitching the role of vengeful devil.
16 in a row extra-innings wins at odds of around 16,000-1. Unreal.
tom, I am convinced Selig will burn in hell for his cold indifference and lack of morality. But in the meantime, we have to put up with the byproducts of his ignorance.
Sox will walk off
but in our game here in Metropolis, never did 5 runs suddenly seem so much like a shutout
Now we have to follow suit. Two in a row would be nice enough for me.
Okay Freddy – your team needs another shutout inning . . .
If the Yankees can get thru this inning unscathed, then maybe we’ll see another Ichiro ignited comeback.
Don’t think of the O’s as a team of destiny. Think of them as a team that will well understand that they can now compete with the big guys. But I’m thinking they are going to get put away in the post, maybe by the Yankees.
That ball has to be caught. I know the sun is bad but Granderson always misplays balls. His all around play is really hurting them.
Ichiro, Swisher, Gardner, S. Hairston 2013 OF
9-6.
Too bad Chucky isn’t pitching this series.
I would walk Cespedes here. He is the only major threat in their lineup.
Aceves should never be allowed to take the mound again – well, until our series with the Sux. Then put him in every game.
Who’s Chucky- and don’t tell me it’s that puppet that hides in the closet to scare you at night?
It’s funny how Girardi always finds one random guy that he wants to walk
Chucky is Bucholz.
Notice the similarity.
http://newtotheorleans.files.w.....chucky.jpg
Crap.
He walked the guy with 3 hits today and the game-tying homer last night.
Not especially random.
COME ON FREDDY!!! GIVE IT YOUR BEST!
C’mon Freddy. I’m getting too sweaty.
Don’t walk people intentionally in extra innings unless they are named
Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, or Miguel Cabrera.
That’s why I hate walking someone with a pitcher like Garcia on the mound. You can’t put extra guys on base when you never know if Garcia is going to throw strikes. Girardi tried to be too cute and it might cost them.
OMG!!!
OH MY GOD!!!!!
Let all the Pearce detractors choke on their coke!!!!
So knowledgable about players and their abilities.
Nice play by Pierce!!! Now let’s win this game!!!
Whew. Tightrope still intact.
We got away with it. Let’s capitalize.
The Yanks need to win it this inning… pitching might not hold much longer
is Reddick better with his stats than Swisher is with his stats, or just younger?
Pearce saved Christmas.
A’s radio announcer: “Height of frustration for the A’s!”
OK, Freddy. We won’t need another pitcher, even if we should happen to have one. Get’em now, guys.
“Girardi tried to be too cute and it might cost them.”
I always know when you go fatalistic it’s a good sign. You always end up being wrong. I think it’s time for you to say the Yankees wonty win this game!
The Yankees deserve to lose this game. Luckilly Pearce saved a bases clearing double.
Now Ichiro show your teammates how it’s done and get a run home
Let’s go offense!!! We don’t want Garcia to pitch a 3rd inning.
And on Freddy’s behalf, if Curtis caught that fly out Freddy might have been out of the inning.
Game.
Maybe tomorrow the Sux will win.
Baltimore can enjoy its charmed year as far as 1-run and extra-inning
games. Next year, they’ll be .500 in both categories. I hate them more
than the Red Sox.
Anyone – please give me the rundown on Yankee pitchers today, just in terms of how many pitchers we’ve had in the game. Is our pen pretty depleted?
Yeah that pen is depleted if they don’t want to use Robertson or Soriano. mlb.com lists available pitchers.
Arod is late on almost every pitch recently. That pitch was right there to hit also. Cano is also off. It’s hard to win games late when your big boys are so lost.
Big bats not getting it done
I think the O’s have overachieved mightily, but they definitely have hung in there.
I just don’t see them having the same lucky karma throughout the post season. JMO
does anyone recall a worse Cano slump? “future MVP”s don’t let them last this long…good player though on many counts, obviously
Cano’s been pretty bad in September… need him to get it going again.
I’m gone. If I turn off the game the Yankees should win, so goodbye!
“Arod is late on almost every pitch recently. That pitch was right there to hit also. Cano is also off. It’s hard to win games late when your big boys are so lost.”
It can’t be the quality of the A’s bullpen, can it? Never that. It’s that our boys are lost.
Thanks Tyler. I’ll check it out.
Who’s left in the pen? I miss Cone
And herein lies the beauty of longmen in the pen.
GO CHIEF!
Not much left in the ‘pen…. Wade/Soriano/Robertson. Then guys like Thomas/Warren.
Since Robertson and Soraino aren’t available the rest of the bullpen is Wade and Phelps. They will either lose it with Garcia on the mound or win it with the offense. I don’t think Garcia is going to keep throwing up zeros. The A’s are starting to hit the ball hard.
How long before Freddy gives up a meaty one and they fall behind? I just don’t feel any confidence with him on the mound.
who would you have picked to throw the best in this game, Karim Garcia, Andy Garcia or Freddy Garcia?
The big mouths in the booths were all but saying that the A’s were going to score because it was the second time through the lineup for Freddy and they saw all Freddy’s stuff. Stuff a sock in your mouth, Singleton. Guess you got it wrong. Love the backpeddling too.
CHIEF!
It can’t be the quality of the A’s bullpen, can it? Never that. It’s that our boys are lost.
–
But they don’t face an amalgam of the bullpen, they face individual pitchers, and Scribner has one of highest ERA’s and WHIPS in the bullpen. A-rod got 2 hanging curve balls and flew out on the 2nd.
The top of the order has to get the job done because the bottom is a lot of easy outs.
“How long before Freddy gives up a meaty one and they fall behind? I just don’t feel any confidence with him on the mound.”
I feel nothing BUT confidence, certainly based on his last inning.
That said, let’s score this inning and end it.
Dickerson is going to show Joe why needs to play more.
“The top of the order has to get the job done because the bottom is a lot of easy outs.”
That’s what happens when you load the top and leave the bottom uncovered.
I like Ichiro in the 8 hole by the way.
We can’t reasonably expect any more from Freddy. We either win it
now, or just have to face the (nearly) inevitable run or two in the next
inning.
Now who plays 1st base? Nunez?? lol
Then I guess Arod is done because lohud says so.
Freddy, the ageless wonder. Now let’s get him the win, fercrissakes. I have to cook supper here, ya know? The cat’s complaining already. Walk off, now.
COME ON RAUL!!!
as these Ks pile up ever higher, just reminded me time to rake some leaves
That’s what happens when you load the top and leave the bottom uncovered.
–
Don’t be ridiculous this makes no sense. Not to mention the bottom of the order has chavez, granderson, and martin in it.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because Ibanez is old and worthless. Lohud said so.
LMAO!!!!!
Wow Ibanez!!! That was exciting/scary watching him run!!
pinch run Gardner!!!

I like the optimism but confidence in Garcia? Lets be real…
Wily vet, who’d have thunk it.
Wow look at the hustle from Ibanez. Cano is 10 year younger than him and he would never hustle like that for a double.
Brett Gardner still hasn’t been activated.
Chavez to 1B, Nunez to 3B maybe…
“Don’t be ridiculous this makes no sense. Not to mention the bottom of the order has chavez, granderson, and martin in it.”
Talk to the person who suggested the bottom had no hitters.
“Scribner has one of highest ERA’s and WHIPS in the bullpen”
He’s never been known to have a good game either.
LMAO!!!
what a great play by Ibanez, some of the other Yankees should be taking notes…
Let’s go Martin!!!!
“I like the optimism but confidence in Garcia? Lets be real…”
Here’s the beauty of posting on lohud. People don’t have to agree with each other!
You have no confidence in Freddy. Go for it! I have confidence in Freddy.
It appears he’s kept us in the game. I of course could be wrong since I only got here in the 10th…
Here comes a ton of curveballs in the dirt
It will be so cool if Russell gets the walk off here!
This A’s radio crew is so ready to be deflated… please please please.
Captain Clutch,
Hustle aside, Cano couldn’t outrun Ibanez, or me, in a footrace. And I’m crippled. Only flaw in his game.
This offense is pathetic
Martin can’t have 2 good games in a row of course. That would be a travesty.
I can’t believe that Ibanez tried to come home on that. That made no sense. Nunez yes, Ibanez no.
is this even possible anymore, statistically I mean?
Talk to the person who suggested the bottom had no hitters.
–
You don’t solve the problem of the bottom of the order being a bunch of ‘auto outs’ by moving those players higher in the order. Its bad baseball.
Nice try Raul
And why not pinch run Mesa for Ibanez. I know it would be his first big league game but I thought Mesa was a pretty good outfielder?
Tyler
That’s a good point.
trisha-
It’s not about agreeing or disagreeing. You’re entitled to your opinion on Garcia obviously. I just don’t think even Girardi agrees with it lol.
Grandy can, Come on Curtis
It seems like the game will end when Garcia gives up a run. The offense is so hard to watch in these spots.
Scribner made a good pitch, Martin hung in there and got the bat on the ball, Ibanez busted it down the line and ran over the catcher who held the ball.
This is just good baseball, there is no criticism to be made there.
“This offense is pathetic”
This offense sucks. Horrible. Pathetic. Imagine how good they could be if they were 2nd in the AL in runs!
Oh wait…
But don’t let that fool ya. Any time the Yankees aren’t getting all the hits you want them to, trust that if means that the offense is pathetic and not that the opposition pitching might be decent.
I’m with ya!
Here comes ice cold Chavez
“I just don’t think even Girardi agrees with it lol.”
It may be game dependent lol.
Walk off wild pitch here we come
Come on Chavez. Get back in the groove.
“It seems like the game will end when Garcia gives up a run. The offense is so hard to watch in these spots.”
THAT’S what I want to hear. That almost assures the Yankees will take the game.
)
“This is just good baseball, there is no criticism to be made there.”
I agree. Even a faster runner would have been out.
But if it was me I still would have had a faster runner on.
“You don’t solve the problem of the bottom of the order being a bunch of ‘auto outs’ by moving those players higher in the order. Its bad baseball.”
Stop switching your story. You said they had hitters at the bottom.

————————————————–
Oh, I definitely give the A’s credit and no blame to the Yanks. I just like Mesa going down the line there. Maybe it puts a little more pressure on the A’s.
this guy is death on Righties, but Nunie is on the case
Good at bat for Chavez he was really patient. Let’s go Jeter!!! Be patient!!!
Jeter needs to end this game now, Cal vs. U$C starts in the few minutes.
This would be a great time for sweet Jete to get a hit!
Clutch said Freddy will lost the game for us.
I say Jeter will win the game for us.
Or Freddy will win the game for us.
GO YANKS!
Make him throw strikes
Please don’t swing at the first pitch!
Anyone who believes we’re going to win this game, raise your hand!
Hand raised.
They stink at situational hitting. So many of them are low average boom or bust hitters. This is why they struggle in the playoffs much of the time.
Stop switching your story. You said they had hitters at the bottom.
Talk to the person who said they didn’t.
Next!
–
I’m not switching my story, I am addressing your faulty logic. Whether they have bad hitters or not is irrelevant when your plan for if they did would be to move one of our better hitters lower in the lineup and giving the bad hitters a better spot in the lineup. I already addressed the original complaint by pointing out who we have in the bottom of the lineup.
Ok, Arod wins it in the Lucky 13th.
Hand still raised.
You can put your hand down now.
Wow.
Jerkface save it. I didn’t bother reading what you wrote. I’m done with your contrarian nature – for today anyway.
“You can put your hand down now.”
That was a pre-emptory strike for this inning!
still wondering if this RISP “thing” is even statistically possible…it’s like trying to figure out the number pie or something
That was a terrible pitch to swing at. In on his hands and no way he could get the barrel on it. Too bad he wasn’t more patient and willing to walk. That is the one negative about Jeter in that spot he will never walk.
Nunez at third, not good.
If Freddy comes through this inning unscathed, the Yanks need to put it away in the bottom of the inning. If Freddy shows any sign of troublle, I hope Joe has someone in the wings.
So, Game on Nova and Granderson so far – - – -
I would bring in Wade. Garcia is probably done but of course Joey binder doesn’t trust Wade so he will let Garcia blow it.
That’s what happens when you still with Freddy too long.
Crap.
Ugh.
Cargo, you were right about the homer.
yet another game lost because this “great” offense can’t hit a sac fly
I wouldn’tsay Garcia blew it, but I would say our many success stories from this game (Ichi, Lowe, Freddy) have been far outnumbered by our failures
Game over
Cespedes woke up Girardi?
=( No more meatballs
mighty blast by Cespedes, possibly the most dynamic player on either team. This offense is going nowhere against good pitching…
What a surprise. What in the world was Girardi waiting for? You have to bring in Wade to face Gomez. Leaving Garcia in just shows Girardi’s bad feel for the game. Garcia is one of his boys so he wants him to blow it instead of someone who isn’t on of the managers pets.
Garcia never should have been up again. We were lucky to get out of the top of the 12th even. Ugh.
Girardi rode Garcia too long. Game over.
pitching change? what’s the point, leave Freddy in there.

———————————————
Well, I think your confidence was misplaced. I felt like Freddy being in there was just a matter of time against a team that can hit homeruns. Let’s hope for a comeback, but a night of an extra inning win by one team and a loss by another to lead to a tie at the top of the AL East would be an illustration of why the two teams collided in the standings..
Yanks are not winning squat with this offense in the PS, Book it!
We can’t call it over ’til it’s over. Imagine if the Yanks can pull it off in the bottom of the inning!
Raise your hand if you think Garcia just threw his last pitch as a Yankee?
My hand is raised!!!!
To be fair the Yankees are awful with runners in scoring position. I believe they are 1-13? Or something… It’s the story of the seasob
=D More meatball
Paco – he looked good in the 12th so I figured he’d look good in the 13th. I forgot that he hasn’t pitched in a while.
It’s starting to feel like we might be F’d.
Giro should not have even been in a position to make a second-guessable-decision. This game is on the O…again…first time in years the O has lost so many more games for us than its won…this game has been particulalry infuriating in the bottoms of innings, as much as it could have been for a game in which we actually scored 5 runs…this feels like a reverse shutout if ther eis such a thing
And to be fair the Yankees bullpen pitched a ton of innings without use Robertson or Soriano… Their offense did not pick them up
Boooo. Nice job Girardi. You suck.
I blame Girardi for the loss not Garcia. Garcia is what he is and he gave them 3 shut out innings. It was obvious that he was done and was starting to get the ball up. One of Girardi’s biggest negative’s as a manager is he will only pitch his boys. Everyone saw that Garcia was losing it but Girardi refused to go with someone else that isn’t in his circle of trust. No excuse for not going to Wade after the lead off hit.
“Raise your hand if you think Garcia just threw his last pitch as a Yankee?
My hand is raised!!!!”
I’ll be surprised if you don’t see him again, but maybe it will be in a blowout against Minny, or one of those things.
The Yankees need to use all the bodies they can so that the regulars can get some rest.
Trisha is prob the only person alive who still thinks the Yanks will win this game
Jerkface September 22nd, 2012 at 5:55 pm
I’m not switching my story, I am addressing your faulty logic
—
I advise giving up trying to talk logic with Trisha.
This would not sting so bad if the Orioles lost every once in awhile.
Yes Garcia is terrible… However he gave the yanks 3 innings the offense hates driving in runs when they are in scoring position…sooner or later Garcia was going to get light up
The blown call game is looming large right now, it can’t be overstated.
“I advise giving up trying to talk logic with Trisha.”
What’s the matter jacksquat, you inconsolable because I tipped my cap to the team with the 2nd best ERA in the AL? I know that tends to put you into a tailspin.
I’ll root for the unis all the way to the end, but the actual bodies filling out this year’s roster has been one of my lest favorite collections. There’s only so ,uch Giro can do if these guys can’t get the job done just a LITTLE more often at the plate…games that should typically be over for other squads past and present just end up in the dumpster
I don’t think Garcia is in Girardi’s “circle of trust” – he used Lowe twice before Freddy – but he is probably just “trusted” more than what’s left and available.
Baltimore finds ways to win these types of games. That’s the biggest difference between the two teams.

Agree the offense can kill the yanks in a tight game
Has the fat lady sung?
Let’s go, Yanks. It’s still possible.
“Trisha is prob the only person alive who still thinks the Yanks will win this game”
Well let me say that last homer definitely put a little crimp in my enthusiasm. But where there’s life, there’s hope. You can never give up until the last out of the game.
Would I lay strong odds that we win this? Not REAL strong. Do I give them 0 chance. Of course not.
The bullpen did a great job but they can only throw scoreless baseball for so long. The offense is really poor and hasn’t situational hit all year. There is no reason to think it’s going to turn around in the play offs. They will probably struggle even more. It’s really hard to believe that they can be this bad.
You can’t argue logic with a lawyer. Have you ever heard a lawyer admit they were wrong
If you can’t do the basics you don’t deserve to win. Martin was the hero last night but today he was the goat. Terrible at bat, swinging at balls out of the strike zone when all he needed was a walk or a sac fly. ANOTHER tough loss for the Yankees.

Agree…. Yanks have second and third they are not scoring
I do like ichiro in the 2hole though
Ichi starts it off. What a pest he is.
2nd and 3rd – 1 out – Granderson needs to drive that run in – that is the story for today – go get them tomorrow – - – -
But wait…is there a glimmer?
Too bad they gave up those 2 extra homeruns
Guys, here’s something you need to balance out. Though hitting with RISP has been a season-long problem – it had gotten better more recently – you also need to take into account the quality of the opposition pitching. That only makes sense.
The A’s have the 2nd best ERA in the AL. So it’s difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff when you look at something like that.
“You can’t argue logic with a lawyer. Have you ever heard a lawyer admit they were wrong”
Only when they are.
Take 2 strikes here
Went to wax the car. Came back hoping for a minor miracle. Got this instead.
It’s not Freddy’s fault. At this stage of his career he’s the type of pitcher that
can’t go through a lineup a second time. They’ll light him up like a Christmas
tree. So this really isn’t a surprise. He gave us 3 innings to score 1 run. Offense
couldn’t do it. This one’s on the offense.
Hitting with runners in scoring position has killed them this year against good pitching and bad.. Period
And also, I did not get to watch today’s game until the 10th inning. So I cannot be held accountable for knowing everything that came before.
Figgy has a 1 HR/9 rate, now would be a good time to hit a HR.
Meatball please =D
No sabes?! Here we come!
Now why couldn’t they do this in the last few innings? Pressure perhaps?
I don’t care if Grandy hits a six run walkoff HR…he’s not the kind of player I want on my team…agree or disagree, but I prefer guys with 12-15 HRs, 80 Ks, .275 hitter and 75-85 RBIs…give me a whole roster of those guys and you take the guys who hit .235 and go 6 weeks without scoring a run. I’ll bet my calculator that I’d win more games than this year’s Yanks
“Hitting with runners in scoring position has killed them this year against good pitching and bad.. Period”
They had been much better at it of late. Period.
Ok the last 2 seasons Neshek has a 1+ HR/9 rate, and a terrible WHIP, but he has been good for the A’s in limited work since being traded to the A’s.
Well runners are in scoring position now… They are due to break out
Nunez has a chance and then everyone else will try to hit a homerun. Watch those 2 extra homeruns will be the difference in the game.
OK,
Bases loaded, no outs, new pitcher (#5 or 6 for the day), why not win this game, and send me to bed happy.
Neshek is damn good…unfortunately.

Do you have numbers to back that up?
lmao what are you swinging at nunez
Yankees are hitting .259 .374 .378 with RISP in September.
Nunez has to be patient. That pitch was no where near the plate….
tOM – bed at 6:20 on a Saturday? But the early bird special isn’t even over yet
Nunie, that was in the other batter’s box bro…
Nunez has no idea what is coming at him.
There’s one.
“Trisha is prob the only person alive who still thinks the Yanks will win this game”
I bet I have at least a little company at this point, besides tomingeorgia.
If they pull this out, I would like my ring kissed by every one on here who cracked on me.
Ah, the elusive, bitterswet sac fly…
OK Raul, you know what we need.
“Do you have numbers to back that up?”
Ken – I’ve been watching these games! Did you see the 10-run game? I didn’t say they’ve beeen olympiads, just much better of it as of late.
I knew it the difference in the game is going to be Girardi not pulling Garcia after the 1st homerun. Also brining in AAA Thomas.
The ump is going to call anything a strike because he wants to go home.
Pitching themselves into trouble
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!
Tie game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
\o/
TIED!
trisha! im back and youre an effing genius!!!
Go Ibanez!!! Now we know why he is still in the game. lol
Booya!
Raul knew what we needed.
Good news: Girardi can’t put Freddy Garcia in the game either.
=) Meatball !
UN – FREAKING -BELIEVABLE!!!! Trisha, even you couldn’t have hoped for this much
trisha is awesome and i seriously need to study! let’s go martin!
HARDEE HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR!!!!
I will now start to take apologies.
THOSE ARE THE NEW YORK YANKEES!!!
Triple, what are you thinking now?
Ibanez is old and washed up. So says lohud.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
lol, trisha is a broken watch that is right twice a day.
I wouldn’t have bet a nickel on this… and yet, here it is…
Wow.
Martin again. IDIOT.
Granderson please hit a homerun
Grandy FTW
Unbelievable…
And complainers, just shut up from now on-if you root for the Yankees you have to give it to them, they don’t quit in spite of their human shortcomings.
Kay shut up with that if it’s fair crap
“UN – FREAKING -BELIEVABLE!!!! Trisha, even you couldn’t have hoped for this much
”
lil m – I swear to you I thought we would pull it out, but I had to keep a little reserve just not to sound totally crazy!!!
OMG our Yankees!!!
I’ll say this. I have that much faith in this team, no questions asked!
SORRY GUYS, MY LOHUD ACCOUTN WAS HACKED , i OBVIOUSLY WOULDN’T HAVE SAID ALL THOS ETHINGS

I’ll take it!
Two and three and four. “I believe in miracles, you sexy thing”
Who’s up next for the Yanks? Goose Gossage?
And with Wade coming in, the Yankees will likely have to come back in the bottom of next inning too. The Yankees haven’t won anything yet.
Poor Grandy can’t buy a run – but wow, just wow what a rally . . . now Yankees please please please pitch a scoreless inning . . . .
Now if the Yanks lose this will really sting. Hopefully the bullpen can give them a shut out inning.
Triple – you accused me of being the only person who believed they’d win. You apparently gave them no chance.
One for me, none for you.
You callled me out, now deal with it.
Game isn’t over quite yet, but the Yankees got the job done.
You’re a total wash out when it comes to having ANY faith in the Yankees and all you do is complain about them.
Last I looked they were atop of the AL East.
One for me for the season, none for you.
Now put an egg in your hat and beat it.
I LOVE this team and I am always optimistic. You hate this team and you are always pessimistic.
Go haunt a cemetery.
Who’s up next for the Yanks? Goose Gossage?
——————————–
I’d feel confident if it was the Goose. And he could go three.
COME ON CORY!!!
I bet he can get it done. Don’t forget, we hadn’t seen him in a while and so of course he was rusty. This is going to tell the story one way or the other.
I hope that Wade pitches good not only for the team but for himself. Girardi doesn’t trust him at all but hopefully he can give them a good inning and show he can he used. If Wade can shut them out I think the Yanks will win it in the bottom of the inning.
ouch! well said.

Take a bow Tricia !!!! You deserve it, along with that washed up hack Raul Ibanez who shouldn’t have been invited to camp no less given a contract
You’re something special, Trisha… A real fan & pain to some but your devotion to the Yankees is unmatched… KUDOS, sister…..
Wow just wow.. We gotta close this out.. Did i say i love ichiro second
Scary but effective.
Alright the Yanks are winning the game in this inning!!!
Atta boy, Cory.
We have to, simply HAVE to win, this game…if only for Trish!!!
Kinda weird but seems like what we talk about here comes to fruition quite a bit! Did i say i love ichiro in the 2 spot?
Nothing wrong with that inning.
Time to think about giving Dickerson some of Granderson’s playing time. He is beyond lost at the plate.
Okay, here’s a very hittable pitcher. They should get to Tyson Ross.
kay well be late for his precious SPRINGSTEEN concert
i love it…
Triple – you accused me of being the only person who believed they’d win. You apparently gave them no chance.
One for me, none for you.
————————————
Actually if we are going to keep score lets give you losses for every time they went to the 9th and didn’t come back.
along with that washed up hack Raul Ibanez who shouldn’t have been invited to camp no less given a contract
–
He is hitting .222 .294 .415 .708 . They are paying 3 million for that.
Ross has a near 7 ERA. Please end game now.
COULD WE SEE sWISHER PITCH DURING THE PENNANT CHASE?
Now le’ts hit the only guy with an era over 3 on this team.
Stop the incessant bickering. SMFH.
Guys thanks for saying those nice things but I don’t deserve any more credit than you do because you are also always right there in the Yanks corner through thick and thin. I just shoot my mouth off more than you do, ha ha, but you are always in there believing. Same with Yanksfem, by the way – and others, I’m sure!
deleonj –
You are so sweet. Thank you.
Oops – and I just gave you creds YF!
Let me cook supper, fercrissakes. Hang in there, trisha, I’m here all the way, but it’s you who gets the flak. I’d be happy to buy you a beer, win or lose, bat that big Italian family can’t come.
Lead off on!
C’mon Jeter, no DP.
Melky, at least.
Trish this team has given us pessamistic type a lot of ammo, they havent exactly been the come back kids the last couple years.. And this year theyve bern the opposite, theyve found ways to lose games more oft than not.. I wanna believe but they just convince me time and time again not to.. With that said its not very fair for anybody to jump on anybody here for sake of opinion! I wish it would stop!
The yanks coneback this game was so weird because i really felt they would.. Now we are gonna win it too !! It takes a lot for me to be optimistic .. But Ichiro has sparked something with this team lately… We beed this win bad!!! We ARE gonna get it!!!
I just want a game thread that is about the game. Just sayin’
…. Taking out Eric mean we must win this inning ..
I don’t like the bunt here. Reddick and Cespedes have great arms so you aren’t scoring on a single. I woud have let Jeter hit.
I’m putting my hand back up.
Mesa sighting. Score him, please!
Ichiro is gonna do it … Lets go ichiro!!!!!!! If thry dont walk him.. Ughhhhh!!
I never like the move to pinch run a guy that can steal then bunt him to 2nd. Let him steal then bunt.
i’m with captain clutch here. although we’ll see with this walk
ealrier in the game they walked arod to get to cano and now they’re walking ichiro to get to arod
interesting
This is our game and OUR house! It will be OUR W!
I meant Melky, at last. Either way, scoring the winning run would be a pretty nice Yankee memory for him. Make it happen, Arod!
Alex, da man.
“Actually if we are going to keep score lets give you losses for every time they went to the 9th and didn’t come back.”
Okay I’ll take that. But you have to admit that you are always negative when it comes to the Yankees.
*********
“He is hitting .222 .294 .415 .708 . They are paying 3 million for that.”
You would have to be entirely disingenuous to pretend that you haven’t seen all the times he has come up huge for the Yankees. His low average isn’t terribly surprising seeing that he spent time in the field that could have anticipated. But he has had big hits, and timely hits, and he’s won games for the Yankees.
One of the best expenditures of 3 mil the Yanks could have made, IMO
darn it lol he missed the bag
How the hell do you miss a base????
what??????????????
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
GRRRR
Oh what a boneheaded play!
Ca-please!
Alex !!!!!!! LOLOLOL U HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME !! He missed the base lololol ONLY THE NYY! Poor kid!
“I’m putting my hand back up.”
And you know that the Os are glued to the sets in the Sux dugout.
Awwww.
That’s what happens when you put in a rookie. Unreal…
If Tom Coughlin was managing Mesa never gets put in again this year
Knew Alex would come through. Too bad Mesa missed 3rd.
Time to “no sabes!?”
if you all think about it…thats pretty funny
Heres Cano the most unclut h of them all, all he needs is a sac fly!
They cannot lose this now, can they?
RISP hit fails to score our pinch runner.
Hilarious.
Come on Robbie Wan Canobi!
Now Cano is swinging at anything in sight…Zero patience…
I really do not like Cano!

OK Trisha, he has hit some HRs, and got some big hits, but do you think a replacement wouldn’t also get some big hits? Its not like a replacement would hit 000. He makes a lot of outs, and doesn’t get hits very often, and is very platoon dependent. There is legit criticism against Raul as a player and a big HR doesn’t negate it.
Baseball is about consistent and repetitious production.
Now if he wants to hit a walk off HR in the world series and win a ring, then all can be forgiven.
DAMMIT
And if Raul were hitting better they might not be in the position where every game is going to matter. Their entire DH platoon fell apart.
I can’t believe this
Terrible at bat for Cano. He is just dreadful in those spots. He looks like Vlad jsut swinging at anything in sight.
crap one runs please
That is an inexcusable play by that kid. He should not play again this year
=( this melkman don’t deliver
Capt Clutch, amazin that hes instantly 0-2 every time we need a clutch..
Please dont give worthless Cano a blockbuster deal and most definatley do not give him a NO TRADE contract!
Puedes, Eduardo!
What a weird game lol
I can’t believe this
————–
Have you not watched them this year???
Too bad they didn’t just leave Chavez in at 1st base. Unreal that Mesa can miss the bag.
this is the most bizarro game!
Cano sucks.
yes that kind of game hahahaha walkoff E3!!!
Fitting ending, walk off error
=D Nunez with his error
Yankees win
Making contact matters! I’ll take it!
Way to go Nunie!!!!
Walkoff!
HARDEE HAR HAR HAR HAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TAKE THAT O’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DA YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I am unabashadely crying tears of happiness. How could you love these guys more???
Wowwwwwwww weeeeeeeeee! 2 comebacks in a row!!!!!!!!!!! Love xmas gifts !!!
YES!!!!
this is beyond comprehension.
but a great win nonetheless.
Errors work, too! The Yankees win!, and i”m already untucked.
the good news is that I just figured out pie
Nunez always makes contact. Too bad he can’t field because the Yanks can really use his bat in the lineup everyday. They need more guys like him in there everyday.
He missed the base .. Kerazeee to an E3 walkoff
I’ll take it
6hr game!
By the way -
trisha – true pinstriped blue September 22nd, 2012 at 5:01 pm
Absolutely expected to come in to find out the score of the game, not to see the game still going on.
I’m thinking these are good signs for the Yanks. Another extra inning win?
So I called it in the 10th.
I would love to have seen this game (followed it here and on MLB)…
Wow. Just wow.
I told me wife as the A’s were coming back to 5-5 that the Yankees would need 10 runs to win this game.
But after the top 13, I can’t say trisha’s confidence was convincing.
Wow!
Great win!
Suck it A’s.
Suck it Orioles!
Yes thank God!
And Randy – this one is for you, and for anyone else that does not know the meaning of patience.
GOOD WAITERS GET GOOD TIPS!
That’s one of the most memorable games I’ve ever listened to. Wow. Still in shock.
Hassey, you’re cracking me up.
But I’m trying to figure out if you’re baking or doing math.
pi=3.1416
A bit of the old Aura and Mystique perhaps. No other explanation for this bizarre bizarre game. Just freaky.
So happy for Nunez. And so happy for Melky Mesa. They picked him up.
Can’t wait to watch this postgame!
tom – have the best dinner you’ve ever had. LMAO about my large Italian family. The beer will be just you and me!

trisha,
I’m a true believer like you. I liked last night’s game better than this one, but this one is strictly unbelievable. If we’re the only ones who believe, we may be enough to boot this team home. The Fat Lady has sung for the A’s, praise be.
Trish ur crying for reals??? I think you should try out for ball/bat girl
joe is absolutely a player’s manager esp. in his pressers

This belongs in Cano’s locker!
two teams play 6 straight one run games in one season…a record?
Let’s not forget to give credit to Arod for what should have been the walkoff hit.
Nunie makes things happen. Happy to see Mesa gets off the hook. Pena will make sure that that doesn’t happen again. Great win.
for those of you who trash Cano, without his base hit against a very tough lefty on a 3-2 pitch the Yankees don’t tie the game one inning earlier.
“That is an inexcusable play by that kid. He should not play again this year”
See this is the kind of thing that kills me about lohud. You may not have been one of them, but there have been a lot of poster calls for Melky Mesa. The kid messes up and all of a sudden he has no friends. Talk about jackyls.
He’s a kid! Heck, veterans make some boneheaded plays!
Its amazing when you 1-3 hitters do their job.. Love this Batting order!
“This belongs in Cano’s locker!”
LOVE Robby. Never understand anyone getting down on him.
Yeah, those are real tears. But that’s my nature. I’m one of those people who tears up easily. Tell me a sad story, I’ll tear up. Let me burst with pride for love of our Yankees, I’ll tear up.
One of those things I wish I could give back, but I can’t.
grillin’ burger time with the love of my life! Much better to do with a W instead of L!
ichiro at the top in the middle of things gotta love it!
mick –
That was so funny!
Give Mesa another chance. We need youth in the lineup. Fielding seams to be the Achilles Heel of Oakland.
“grillin’ burger time with the love of my life! Much better to do with a W instead of L!”
I bet those are going to be some of the best burgers you’ve ever tasted!
Penny, where are you at school?
A win’s a win! Sweep ‘em out tomorrow, Hiroki!
“A bit of the old Aura and Mystique perhaps. No other explanation for this bizarre bizarre game. Just freaky.”
It’s sure feeling like a renewed Yankee team! And what timing.
has any team ever won a game in extras after surrendering three HRs in extras?
who cares about Mesa missing the base? doesn;t mean he is not a good athlete nor does it mean he won’t go to the HoF
Where’d all the boobirds go?
Sweep tomorrow!
I love ichiro
“who cares about Mesa missing the base? doesn;t mean he is not a good athlete nor does it mean he won’t go to the HoF”
At the end of the day, he’s the only Melky we’ve got.
“I love ichiro”
I think we both said that from the time they traded for him. I said I felt like we died and went to heaven. Just to have Ichiro in our lineup was like an out-of-body experience. And man alive, he has not disappointed.
That game has got to be a Trisha special – now she’s never going to believe we’re ever going to lose. What an absurd game. I cannot believe they won that game. Cannot believe it.
RAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLL
Good for Ibanez – he catches a lot of flack – but for his one year deal – he is a nice piece for this team for this year – - – -
So incredulous about the comeback in the 13th. I had given up. They did an incredible job.
Was sooooooo happy to see how the veterans gave Mesa assurances after the win. In the end, you can laugh about it and it becomes a story, and adds to the bizarre and unreal feeling to this game.
When are Orioles going to lose? LOL
Gang – Yanks last 10 games – 9-1.
UNBELIEVABLE.
This is the kind of Yankee magic we saw so many times in years past.
Please don’t doubt this offense. They might not be as consistent as you’d like – but they get the job done!
Yeah!!!
This is how you payback!
Another 1 run walk off against subhuman! In extra inning!
Take that, sub!
Villa,
The O’s may never lose. That’s why we have to win every game. Do that, it’s in the bag.
Villa – can you imagine how the O’s are feeling right now? They’re probably asking the same question about the Yanks!
Heck, I’d rather have our schedule than theirs. 4 games with the Jays, they end with the Rays!
good thing melky missed 3rd….cespedes would have gunned him
tomingeorgia
LOL!!!!
Well, this game has certainly made a believer (rather than a hoper) out of me!
Have all of the last 6 games versus Oakand been decided by 1 run?
And isn’t it serendipitous that the Yankees have won these two games in pretty much the same manner Oakland won their games at home?
Doesn’t matter if the Orioles never lose again as long as our Yankees keep winning.
Ichiro stats for you: Did you know his current stat line with the Yankees is better than his career numbers?
Coming into today’s game, he was at .327/.347/.468 for an OPS of .814
His career numbers are .322/.365/.419 for an OPS of .784
Can you say resurgence?
He has mentioned the pennant race as a reason for extra focus.
If that holds true the rest of the year, it’s gonna be fun watching him in the playoffs.
THE ORIOLES ARE PISSING ME OFF
trisha –
True about the O’s!
speaking of burgers ….right in the middle of em when the crazy rally to tie happened….kinda like when children or dogs demand your attention when you are in the middle of something….raul put the cheese on the burger.
Wow — just woke up. I missed a game and a half! I’m watching the replay tonight.
Just an observation but Nova seems to do well when his place in the rotation is at stake, but this year, when it looks like he’s a lock again, we get these games where he’s all over the place, giving up doubles. I sure hope it’s not an attitude problem. I mean, he’s already admitted he loses focus when there aren’t runners on base.
I’d rather go with Phelps in the playoffs.
Bret,
Send them a couple of case of Cheetos, then. No Cap’n crunch, tough.
I felt bad for Melky — talk about nerves. He’s a kid. Give him a break.
Man just finished a 6 hour drive with John Sterling…what a gane!
Watching the post game.
How about all the people who left after the top of 13th??!!!!???
blake,
better than an hour in your chair, I’ll bet.
pearce looked just like tex on that diving catch…
I will point this little gem out ….

Girardi is keepin Ibanez in because the game is tied (for now). He’s hoping there is another HR in that bat today… My biggest beef with Girardi was pulling Lowe … Sox and O’s go extras.
—————
Yeah cuz a guy who was 2 for 45 before his solo shot is gonna hit another homerun – are you serious?
LOL @ you wanting the worst defensive outfielder in the field.
Ibanez served his purpose (then go-ahead run), time for him to be replaced in the field.
“Watching the post game.
How about all the people who left after the top of 13th??!!!!???”
Wow what they missed!
raul taking that extra base then trying to bowl over the catcher was awe inspiring….could use more of that.
In years past, YES rewind was available for all YES customers. They stopped that several years ago. How I wish I could watch this whole game! I saw from the 10th on but still you don’t get the real flavor of the game that way. Plus I would LOVE to watch the bottom of the 13th again, just staring at the television with no other distractions.
Is there any way to save the game from MLB.com to my hard drive and then somehow get it to my television? I’m not a real tecchie, as you can tell!
mick – seriously, raul is awe inspiring!
” Man just finished a 6 hour drive with John Sterling…”
You must be wondering what happened.
If anyone can either tape or DVR the rewind of this game, and then save it to a DVD for me, I will be happy to pay you for materials and labor.
With a streaky hitter like Ibanez, you stick with him when he starts to warm up. And it looks like he is heating up at the right time.
I would also like to see CorynWade get more innings down the stretch to see if he can be helpful at all …
trish. they are doing the replay right now on YES
Mr. mick,
Raul is a player, always has been. I don’t care if he’s 40, he still plays the game as if he were 30. Problem is, he’s 40. Like Jones, he’s about done, but he didn’t look like it today. Praise the Lord!
this one will be a YES instant classic next week
Mr Tom…..when i went to baltimore last sunday grandy did the same thing coming off the bench in a terrible slump and took over the game
And the fact that we got Ichiro for so cheap! How do you not resign him eith our OF needs and the price of the other FA.. Im already drooling over Hamilton if hes willing to go at it with something reasonable im all in.. But a 8 year 20+ W/ntc
, next year our OF should be .. Gardner LF, CF Grandy, Ichiro RF .. Id prefer ichiro over Grandy or Swisher in heartbeat! I think it will come down to contracts dependent upon the better bargain for Hal’s spreadsheet!
Just cracked up thinking about “spreadsheets and binders” lol,
mick – they don’t show the rewinds to out of market viewers anymore!
going by today’s game here is my PS roster
the 8 usual starters + stewart,nunez,nix, chavez, ibanez and gardner(if healthy)/dickerson
cc kuroda andy hughes
joloroso, eppada, phelps
would trust lowe but it would cost eppley
blessing in disguise on the melky mishap
cespedes threw a bullet from shallow cf
Missed most of the game….Got back home and I find out that I missed probably the game of the season! Grrrrrrr!! What a roller coaster game it must have been by reading the the thread. Winning run by an error! Down 9-5 and we manage to tie the game! Then Mesa misses a base, we don’t score, but still managed to win?!
I don’t want to get to far ahead, but this could be the game that gives us the division.
Trisha, the easiest is if you have a 3rd party device . We watch mlb.tv from our xbox and playstations, you can purchase a single game i think if not a month subscript is so worth it. If you dont have a xbox some internet ready Tv’s have it built in i kbow panasonic does .. But your best bet is pluggin your computer into TV if you have the proper cables.. Of course for 100.00 you can by the new tiny apple TV .. Thing is super cool , definitely worth every penny!
You can watch MLB.tv from an Xbox? How?
2 Melky’s had bad moments in the field their first days. Melky C misplayed a ball vs Boston. And Melky M. overran a base. I think that was MM’s first game.
do you who ralph kramden is trish?
Melky C misplayed a ball vs Boston.
==================
was at that game at YS-his 1st
Luis
You have to have the X-Box connected to the internet. Buy a membership to X-Box live, download the MLB app and you done.
Trisha— The A’s repeat the game tonight on Direct tv–698
What is wrong with Nova?
He’s enigmatic to say the least.
He might have pitched himself off the PS roster.
Well, 2 more starts in his audition…
jackamir – thank you so much!!! It’s the A’s version, but I’ll still get to watch it!
watch the 13th inning…i hear it was exciting…
mick –
I get mlb.tv on my toaster. I’m not complaining.
“And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
Joe Girardi, trisha, and me.
“You must be wondering what happened.”
Nah I heard…..Yankees win……thhhbbbbaaaaaa Yankees WIN! So that told me the bottom line
Kudos to Lowe who really held the As down….and Kudos to Raul and the offense for not giving up there when inevitably the As got to Freddy.
Big win….big confidence boosting win.
Hi, there!
Didn’t catch the game, but almost had a heart attack reading the thread! I truly desire the O’s have watched the last inning, LOL
Tar,
You made my day! I have all of that, didn’t know they had a MLB application. I rather see it through that than see it in my computer.
Tar,
Thank you by the way
Glad to hear it luis.
Hey Nick did UNC make you happy today? They really should have scored probably 14 more points, but had a bunch of dropped passes.
luis,
Who are you going to crowd off the playstation?
Hi Luis!
Sorry to ask, but what kind of internet connection do you have? Mine is painfully slow
trish,nothing on ralph kramden?
Nick in SF gets todays funniest comment inre Sterling….lol
Tom,
If I can, my two daughters will be the victims!
I know easier to say than done.
Jmv,
I have ABA from cantv the highest speed available 100 mps if I am not mistaken. But I think the key is the router you have. My kids play on line all the time, they get beat by players from other countries with faster internet, but they play fine. So I guess I can watch the game in there. Heck I watch most of the games in my computer. My office does have real fast service since I get from Spain.
Jmv,
The part I dread the most is downloading the app, that might a while though.
Thanks, Luis!
I had lost faith in ABA (a lot of episodes of lost connection), but maybe it’s time to give it a shot… Hey, maybe it will get faster after 7-O!, LOL
Tar, I could have used a higher point total, but otherwise I’m happy. I might not be betting UNC again in the near future, however.
Luis, I really miss Spain’s internet speed…

Was just thinking about that… Must be bumping their heads on the wall, LOL
Prayers and condolences to the Cashman family as Brian apparently lost his father tonight. RIP.
Jmv,
Hay un camino!
Seriously though, I don’t think the service is going to get better any time soon. They would have to privatize or open the competition. The latter might happen sooner.
Mlb.tv is a billion x better then extra innings.. Its even cheaper with more options! I’ll always get mlb.tv bye bye cable extra innings!
Jmv,
I took the servers out of the country for security reasons and internet speed. Unfortunately is to costly to do it for your home.
Usually after 8 the speed is ok. Got to go, have a good one!
I tell ya….I wouldn’t mind watching THIS Ichiro again next year …..boy hes fun to watch when hes going like this.
Blake-
I want to see more Ichiro and more Nunez.
Cano grounded to the pitcher, who forced Mesa at home, but Nunez then squibbed a ball to first that was misplayed by Moss.
“I thought he was going to have trouble because the ball had a lot of spin,” Nunez said. “That’s why I ran hard.”
If that had been-fill in the blank/blanks, the game might still be going on. Team needs their speed and hustle in the lineup if they want to win the division.
mick – to the moon, Alice!!!
Love watching Ichiro. I don’t like looking too far ahead, but assuming Gardner is back next year, can the team really sign Ichiro for the other corner? I’m not sure the Yankees would go that way. They need to get younger.
