Update, 1:13: So much for a carryover from Nova’s last start, 10 pitches, three doubles, 2-0. Let’s see if he can settle down.

Update, 1:22: How hot is Ichiro? He’s 12-for-16 hot after his solo shot, 2-1.
Update, 1:29: Nicely done by A-Rod to get his hand down on the plate and score on Cano’s single, 2-2. Walk and balk by Blackley set that up.
Update, 1:38: Bases loaded, two outs for ice-cold Andruw Jones, batting .197.
Update, 1:41: RBI walk on four pitches, 3-2.
Update, 1:44: Blackley got Stewart on a weak grounder for the final out, but he threw 40 pitches in the first. I think 23 were balls.
Update, 1:49: Much better for Nova, 1-2-3 second, three grounders.
Update, 1:55: Ichiro now 13 for last 17 after single. But he’s out trying to go to third on A-Rod’s single, although A-Rod moved up on the throw.
Update, 2:01: A’s just gave away a run, easy grounder booted by Pennington at second to extend the inning and Blackley wild pitches the run home, 4-2.
Update, 2:08: Nova gives up leadoff HR to Drew, shot over the CF fence, 4-3 in the third.
Update, 2:13: One-out four-pitch walk and then bloop single. Warmup action in the Yankees pen. Looks like Rapada.
Update, 2:15: Another walk. Nova is all over the place and now he’s done.
Update, 2:20: Excellent work by Rapada, 1-2-3 double play to get out of the bases-loaded mess that Nova left him. Josh Reddick had stepped in with 29 homers. The A’s are pulling Blackley, too. Jim Miller will take the ball. Not much good to say about either starter today.
Update, 2:36: Pennington RBI single, 4-4.
Update, 2:41: Two outs, first and third, Lowe comes on.
Update, 4:35: 1-2-3 inning for Joba.
Update, 2:44: Diving stop by Jeter and the Yankees hold it there.
Update, 3:00: Lowe gives up a leadoff single and then gets three straight. I saw Lowe was lamenting the other day that he might be left off the postseason roster, but he only blames himself for not pitching well enough this season. He had wanted to come here for a chance to pitch in October after the Indians let him go and after he went to Florida to tweak his mechanics.
Update, 3:06: Ibanez first pinch HR of the season, also snaps 0-for-18 slide, solo shot to right. So it’s 5-4 Yankees in the fifth.
Update, 3:08: Orioles leading at Boston 5-3, bottom six.
Update, 3:12: Ibanez stays on in right, Swisher moves to first. Ibanez hit for McGehee.
Update, 3:17: Lowe looking good, 1-2-3 sixth. Maybe they should consider him for the postseason roster, lot of October experience, although he can be erratic, too.
Update, 3:21: Derek Jeter singles to start the sixth, now has a season-high 16-game hitting streak. Lefty Jerry Blevins comes in to pitch.
Update, 3:24: Ichiro bunts Jeter to second. Relentless Orioles up 6-3 in the seventh, not that they’re playing a good team up in Boston.
Update, 3:37: 6-5 Baltimore, bottom seven. Relentess Red Sox? Logan coming in to replace Lowe after a one-out walk in the seventh, nice job by Lowe over 2 2/3.
Update, 3:34: Logan gives up a single and a sac fly to Carter, 5-5.
Update, 3:48: Just want to offer my condolences to Brian Cashman and family on the death of his dad earlier today in Florida. John Cashman Jr. was 72. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer. He had been a leading figure in the harness racing industry and was a member of the Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
Update, 3:55: Ryan Cook comes on after Nick Swisher bloops a leadoff single and Ibanez gets hit by a pitch.

Update, 4:58: Garcia gets them 1-2-3, albeit with one fly to the left field wall. Top 12 now, Orioles 6, Red Sox 6.
Update, 5:05: Jim Thome delivers RBI ground-rule double, 7-6 Orioles, top 12.

Update, 5:12: Red Sox are caving in, 9-6 Orioles.

Update, 5:21: Garcia gets out of it thanks to a diving catch by Pearce at first. Looked like Teixeira there.
Update, 5:28: 1-2-3 11th for Yankees. Orioles now a half game back after 9-6 win in 12.
Update, 5:33: Three scoreless innings now for Garcia. On to the home 12th.
Update, 5:39: Ibanez takes a chance and makes second, a one-out double. Another walkoff hit for Martin?
Update, 5:44: After a wild pitch, Martin grounds to second. The throw goes home, Ibanez tries to knock over Norris, but Norris holds the ball. Ibanez is out.
Update, 5:48: Granderson walks, first and second, two outs. Chavez up. Norris looks like he got crossed up, passed ball, second and third.
Update, 5:51: Chavez draws an unintentional intentional walk, I think. Bases loaded. Jeter up. Just about everybody on their feet here.
Update, 5:54: Jeter flies out. On to the 13th. Nunez takes third, Chavez moves to first.
Update, 6:01: Well, this got out of hand in a hurry. Two-runHR by Gomes off Garcia, then Cespedes made it back-to-back blasts; this was a tremendous one to the second deck in left, 8-5 A’s. If the Yankees lose, they can blame themselves because they had golden chances for more runs in this game.
Update, 6:05: Batting practice for the A’s. Chris Carter reaches the second deck in left off Justin Thomas, 9-5.
Update, 6:14: Singles by Ichiro and A-Rod to start the inning.
Update, 6:17: Single by Cano, bases loaded. Pedro Figueroa is done after three batters. Righty Pat Neshek is coming on.
Update, 6:21: Wild pitch 9-6. Sac fly by Nunez 9-7.
Update, 6:24: Ibanez two-run shot, we’re tied again, 9-9.
Update, 6:30: Cory Wade on for the 14th.
Update, 6:36: Wade retires three straight. Tyson Ross on for the A’s.
Update, 6:42: Leadoff single for Chavez. Melky Mesa pinch runs for him, Mesa’s MLB debut.
Update, 6:43: Captain bunts him over. Ichiro up. Intentional walk. A-Rod up.
Update, 6:46: A-Rod singles to center, but Mesa misses third and has to go back. Bases loaded for Cano.
Update, 6:48: Cano hits into a 1-2 force. Nunez up.
Update, 6:51: Mesa can exhale, Yankees win 10-9 in 14 on error at first on Nunez’s grounder. Yankees still up by a game.
Line up 6-9 is not exactly murderer’s row. Hope for the best!

Nova had so much trouble with his mechanics and his command that it was the right call. We can’t afford to lose many games, especially if you have a lead. It worked out, but if it didn’t it owuld have been the right call regardless.
I’m thrilled by Ichiro’s torrid run but he has to be smarter on the basepaths and realize he’s not 30 years old anymore.
No more baserunning mistakes by any Yankee from hereonin.
Nova is a #4 starter, nothing more, nothing less, until he proves otherwise.
He’ll probably be no better than a #3 starter but that’s ok as most pitchers can only be that.
Good job by Rapada who should be re-signed.

It’s not a stretch to think Nova won’t be in the PS rotation come Oct.. but looking at the lights of eppley, wade and other arms with marginal stuff, I still take him over that crew… mid inning and long man duty perhaps. And that’s long fall from grace for Nova.

Girardi thinks way too much of Logan–average pitcher at best
Logan wasn’t horrible. The IF should have gotten that hit. Although if Cano got to it, Logan forgot to cover 1st again. Still that prevents the runner from getting to 3rd and scoring.
What a surprise Girardi’s obsession with bringing in a lefty hurts them again. Logan is so over used and isn’t even that good to begin with. Lowe was missing low there was no reason to take him out. Girardi needs a better feel for the game instead of always thinking he needs a lefty because a lefty is batting. Tex’s injury really hurts because any decent 1st basemen makes that play at 1st base. That’s a ball that Swish has to field.
Lowe could have induced a double-play ball. Reddick is usually a threat, but look at his swings today. Reddick is beyond frustrated. A manager needs to read the body language and swings of the opposition … Not a smart move to pull Lowe.

Cano is not worth a contract of five or more years or $20M per year.
He will turn 30 years old never having a season where he hit 30 or more homeruns AND driven in 100 or more runs (at this rate, 90 or more runs with his pathetic 79 RBI.)
He is a very good hitter but not as good a hitter (or OBP man) as Jeter.
He hits for power but not even close to as much as prime A-Rod hit for power.
Cano is Mr. Almost. Almost a 30-100 man. Almost having a breakout season. Almost a batting champion. Almost this, almost that, and almost isn’t good enough, or at least not good enough to ask for more money than Jeter got after 2000.
How could the Yanks possibly give a 31-year old (what Cano will be on 10/22/13) who has never had a breakout season (to me at least .300 BA, 30 HR, and 100 RBI which are not impossible) five years or more?
Four years at $18M per year for $72M taking Cano through age 35 would be the third highest contract by a homegrown Yankee player (position player or pitcher) in club history as it should be as Cano is not as great as Jeter or Bernie Williams and spare me “Cano plays 2B”. Get back to me when he is the best all-around player on a World Champion Yankee team like Bernie was in 1996, Jeter in 1998-2000 and 2009.
History shows Hall Of Fame secondbasemen are not great from age 32 on even though they have nice to MVP age 32 seasons.
Ryne Sandberg had a nice age 32 season hitting .309 but he had no power that year, missed his age 35 season, and was a shell of his through age 31 self from age 32 on.
Joe Morgan had an NLMVP age 32 season – the second of back to back NLMVP seasons – but was a shadow of his through 32 self from age 33 on (although he did have a nice age 33 season.)
Chase Utley is not a Hall Of Famer but look at him since age 31 – not the player he was before that.
There is no excuse for having a 40 year old play the outfield in a tied game in the 8th inning. No excuse. Girardi always goes for offense over defense and it might cost them the game if Gomes gets a hit. Why is Logan facing another righty? Girardi makes no sense sometimes.

Captain Clutch this is the same manager who had his ace intentionally walk Sean @#$%ing Rodiguez to load the bases to face Carlos Pena, the biggest homerun threat on the Rays and one of the biggest homerun threats in MLB in the season opener, and set up Pena’s grandslam the reason why the Yanks aren’t two games up on Baltimore with a chance to go up three games and only one game behind Texas for homefield advantage throughout the AL postseason as I type.
Where are all you “It’s only the season opener” morons now? (Not you Captain Clutch.)

Well, I think your confidence was misplaced. I felt like Freddy being in there was just a matter of time against a team that can hit homeruns. Let’s hope for a comeback, but a night of an extra inning win by one team and a loss by another to lead to a tie at the top of the AL East would be an illustration of why the two teams collided in the standings..

I blame Girardi for the loss not Garcia. Garcia is what he is and he gave them 3 shut out innings. It was obvious that he was done and was starting to get the ball up. One of Girardi’s biggest negative’s as a manager is he will only pitch his boys. Everyone saw that Garcia was losing it but Girardi refused to go with someone else that isn’t in his circle of trust. No excuse for not going to Wade after the lead off hit.

There’s only so ,uch Giro can do if these guys can’t get the job done just a LITTLE more often at the plate…games that should typically be over for other squads past and present just end up in the dumpster
I don’t think Garcia is in Girardi’s “circle of trust” – he used Lowe twice before Freddy – but he is probably just “trusted” more than what’s left and available.
Baltimore finds ways to win these types of games. That’s the biggest difference between the two teams.

Guys, here’s something you need to balance out. Though hitting with RISP has been a season-long problem – it had gotten better more recently – you also need to take into account the quality of the opposition pitching. That only makes sense.
The A’s have the 2nd best ERA in the AL. So it’s difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff when you look at something like that.

OK Trisha, he has hit some HRs, and got some big hits, but do you think a replacement wouldn’t also get some big hits? Its not like a replacement would hit 000. He makes a lot of outs, and doesn’t get hits very often, and is very platoon dependent. There is legit criticism against Raul as a player and a big HR doesn’t negate it.
Baseball is about consistent and repetitious production.
Now if he wants to hit a walk off HR in the world series and win a ring, then all can be forgiven.

In years past, YES rewind was available for all YES customers. They stopped that several years ago. How I wish I could watch this whole game! I saw from the 10th on but still you don’t get the real flavor of the game that way. Plus I would LOVE to watch the bottom of the 13th again, just staring at the television with no other distractions.

If you dont have a xbox some internet ready Tv’s have it built in i kbow panasonic does .. But your best bet is pluggin your computer into TV if you have the proper cables.. Of course for 100.00 you can by the new tiny apple TV .. Thing is super cool , definitely worth every penny!

I have ABA from cantv the highest speed available 100 mps if I am not mistaken. But I think the key is the router you have. My kids play on line all the time, they get beat by players from other countries with faster internet, but they play fine. So I guess I can watch the game in there. Heck I watch most of the games in my computer. My office does have real fast service since I get from Spain.

I took the servers out of the country for security reasons and internet speed. Unfortunately is to costly to do it for your home.
Usually after 8 the speed is ok. Got to go, have a good one!

Love watching Ichiro. I don’t like looking too far ahead, but assuming Gardner is back next year, can the team really sign Ichiro for the other corner? I’m not sure the Yankees would go that way. They need to get younger.
