Have a … : Happy Birthday, Joba Chamberlain. You’re 27 today.

Broom time?  The Yankees have nine series sweeps and will go for No. 10 today, which would give them one more than they had last season. They’re also in search of back-to-back sweeps, which has happened for them just one time this season.

Twitter time: For anyone who would like to join me on Twitter during LoHud Yankees Blog downtime, you can follow me at @bheyman99. I would appreciate all new followers; trying to build. I don’t just tweet about the Yankees; NFL and other sports, too. But now it’s about time to watch this series finale here and blog here about the Yankees.

Update, 1:19: Shaky first so far for Kuroda, bases loaded, two outs.

Update, 1:21: Kuroda throws a wild pitch, run scores, looked like a hard splitter in the dirt that got away from Martin.

Update, 1:25: Kuroda gets a fly ball to leave two in scoring position. He came in with a 1.48 daytime ERA this season. This is his eighth day start. He’s won five.

Update, 1:35: Leadoff walk to Jeter goes nowhere. Griffin gets three straight. Griffin is one of four rookies in the A’s rotation. He started the season in Double-A, came in at 6-1, 2.45. Amazing, the A’s have 14 rookies currently on the roster and nearly have the same record as the Yankees.

Update, 1:39: First base ump Larry Vanover wasn’t close to getting that call right. Nunez throws out Donaldson at first, but it goes as an infield hit to start the second.

Update, 1:43: Blown call costs Yankees a run. Pennington drills an offspeed pitch into the right-field seats, 3-0.

Update, 1:56: Leadoff walk goes nowhere again for the Yankees. Martin raps into a double play to end the second.

Update, 2:02: Kuroda gets a double-play ball out of Gomes after a one-out walk. Yankees will look for their first hit now.

Update, 2:09: First hit, single to right-center for Jeter, extends his season-high hitting streak to 17 games.

Update, 2:12: We just received the promotional item of the day, No. 42 ring in honor of Mariano, with his 602 also on it for breaking the saves record. Kuroda just had a 1-2-3 fourth.

Update, 2:24: Swisher sends a souvenir to the second deck in right, two-run homer, No. 22. It’s 3-2 in the fourth.

Update, 2:32: Ibanez is contributing again, second straight day, this time RBI double to tie it, and then Nunez groundout gives the Yankees the 4-3 lead. Ibanez was 2 for 45 coming into yesterday’s three-hit game.

Update, 2:47: Kuroda obviously isn’t sharp today, now 4-4 on Cespedes RBI single, first and third, one out in the fifth.

Update, 2:54: Kuroda does do a good job to strand the runners, gets Moss looking at a 93 mph fastball and Gomes to bounce to third.

Update, 2:58: Ichiro seven-game hitting streak, line single to right to open the fifth, now 15 for his last 23. But A-Rod strikes out for the third straight time, gets booed.

Update, 3:02: Ichiro steals second. Cano walks, first and second. Griffin was at 103 pitches, he’s coming out. Lefty Jerry Blevins coming in.

Update, 3:10: Swisher called out looking — on a ball outside.

Update, 3:14: Granderson strikes out — for the 184th time. Inning over.

Update, 3:20: Nunez spins and throws wild to first — E-6. Such a pleasant guy, wish he could field.

Update, 3:28: Nunez error costly. RBI single for Pennington. Kuroda out, Rapada in, two outs in the sixth, 5-4 A’s.

Update, 3:30: Throwing error on Rapada on pickoff try, Pennington to third.

Update, 3:31: Drew fouls out to end the inning. Bottom six at Fenway, Orioles 1, Red Sox 1.

Update, 3:38: Ibanez at first thanks to a single, two outs, Ryan Cook coming on.

Update, 3:43: Jeter reaches on a throwing error (should’ve been on the first baseman Moss, I thought, not exactly Teixeira over there). But Ichiro grounds to short. David Phelps is warming, but Rapada is out to start the seventh.

Update, 3:46: Scoring change. Jeter gets another hit on the march to 4,000.

Update, 3:47: Rapada opens with a strikeout. Phelps coming in.

Update, 3:53: Would you believe another error by Nunez at short? Yes you would. Easy bouncer, ball pops out of his hand, throw is late. Jeter needs to play short regularly again if at all possible.

Update, 3:59: Orioles-Red Sox 1-1, top eight at Fenway.

Update, 4:01: Phelps leaves two on base.

Update, 4:09: For all those holding their nose and rooting for the Red Sox today against the Orioles, Cody Ross just hit an RBI double to drive in Pedroia, 2-1 Boston in the bottom of the eighth.

Update, 4:11: Swisher singles with two outs in the seventh. Robertson, by the way, is warming after his day off.

Update, 4:12: Granderson flies out to end the inning. Phelps back out for the eighth. Logan now warming.

Update, 4:19: Phelps leaves, one out, man on first. Logan comes in.

Update, 4:23: Logan gets a double play. Doolittle coming on for the A’s.

Update, 4:25: Top 9 at Fenway, Orioles have second and third with one out. Make that bases loaded after intentional walk.

Update, 4:30: Red Sox win 2-1. Yankees have potential tying run at first with one out in the eighth. Make that at second after bad pickoff throw by Doolittle. Soriano warming.

Update, 4:35: Nunez goes down swinging on 96 mph fastball. Up to Jeter.

Update, 4:36: Captain bounces to short to end inning. Chris Stewart now catching. Logan is out for the ninth.

Update, 4:42: Logan opens with two Ks, Eppley coming on.

Update, 4:45: Eppley gets third out. Can the Yankees force extra innings in all three games of the series?

Update, 4:47: Grant Balfour will try to close it out.

Update, 4:53: A-Rod flies to the wall in right, two outs.

Update, 4:54: Yankees lose 5-4, still up by a game on the Orioles.

    Thanks, JS!
I think he can be back mid-
season. It all will depend on
    his discipline and will. The
fact that it was a parcial
    tear give us more hope

  2. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:09 pm

After spending last week in NYC and going to the stadium, feels strange watching today’s game on tv with the A’s announcers.

  3. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:09 pm

    Let’s go A’s!!!!

  4. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:10 pm

    Ah Alex, that was stupid

  5. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Old man Aroid looking good in the field lol

  6. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Let’s go, boys. Time for a sweep. Keep it up, Ichi, and Kuroda, banzai!

  7. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Steven drew is channeling Ciriaco in this series

    OsOwn,
Go watch your own game. We’ll take care of this one, thanks.

Leave it to someone from Baltimore, to make comments on our blog.

  11. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:17 pm

    Tom,

Please don’t address me. You and your blatant rascism make very uncomfortable. Thank you in advance.

  12. Tar September 23rd, 2012 at 1:18 pm

This troll reminds of that Phitin Philies guy. HAHA what a moron he was as well. Left with his tail between his legs never to be seen again. I suspect the same result here. Anyway my one and only post on the subject.

  13. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:19 pm

By the way dim bulb, “banzai” is a cheer, similar to “yea” “let’s go” etc. It’s not racist.

  14. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 1:20 pm

For what it matters to certain cretins, “banzai” means, literally, “10,000 years”, and is used to mean “long life ans success”. That’s what I wish for Ichi and Kuroda, simpleton.

  15. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:20 pm

    Uh-oh….

Reddick is going GRAND SLAM here.

  16. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Orioles fans living in their grandmothers basements have strange definitions of racism

  17. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:22 pm

    HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAH.

    Nice pitch.

  18. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:22 pm

“This troll reminds of that Phitin Philies guy”

Not much to cheer for with the Phils this year

  19. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:22 pm

    Arrrrrgh. Bad start

  20. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:22 pm

walk and hit homers approach……they like the homers….they just don’t like the innings of nothing in between and the strikeouts and non-productive AB’s….it’s boring…..

    ——————————

And you can make the case that the game is not as popular or exciting as it once was. A lot of ppl ragged on the steroid era and wanted pitching to return well it has but can we say the game is better off.

  22. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Ok, not the end of the world.

  23. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:25 pm

    Griffen is dead nasty.

    Kuroda looks awful.

Yanks in big time trouble today.

  24. Tar September 23rd, 2012 at 1:25 pm

“Not much to cheer for with the Phils this year”

He didn’t have much to cheer about in 2009 either.

  25. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:26 pm

I love the game clean….I love that its trending back towards youth…..I just dont like the hitting approaches throughout baseball right now…..

  26. jackamir September 23rd, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Lets go Yanks!!! Score early & often…

  27. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Captain gets the bottom half started out right.

  28. MG September 23rd, 2012 at 1:29 pm

the Yankees are going to get this guy early today…

  29. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:29 pm

Took my daughter to some games at the stadium this year and she has become a fan. She told me that what makes the Yankees special is the history and the fans knowledge of the game. Have faith in the people you’ve introduced to the game.

  30. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Today Girardi comes out and says all the right things regarding Ichiro hitting 2nd. All things that I give credit to those on Lohud for already stating.

  31. The Return of Stoneburner September 23rd, 2012 at 1:30 pm

.I love that its trending back towards youth

    ******

No absolutes – it is dangerous – it is a mixture – it is trading promising youth like a Roberto Kelly for a Paul O’Neill – it is adding a Chili Davis to a lineup with youth such as Jeter and Bernie – it is having Matsui in there who was old in 2009 along with the youth of Cano – it is getting Ichiro Suzuki while developing Austin, Flores, and Mason Williams down below – two of which who made it to AA this past season – no absolutes – this is not engineering, math, or science – the Yankees have been successful at it for almost two decades – they withstood the Clevelands, Seattle, Boston, Tampa, Angels and hopefully now the charges of the O’s and Rangers – go Yanks – go stability – go Yanks – - – -

  32. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:31 pm

    Oppo bomb here Alex.

  33. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:33 pm

    Thats way down

  34. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 1:34 pm

    Hi, Tom, Blake and others!

    Go Yankees!
Read today’s pitcher is kind of a deceiver/soft tosser.

  35. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 1:35 pm

    Hey, Ump,
Save a couple of those calls for Hiroki.

  36. The Return of Stoneburner September 23rd, 2012 at 1:35 pm

Ump has to call it both ways – bs there on Robbie’s AB -

  37. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Yanks bats looked AWFUL that inning.

  46. Don September 23rd, 2012 at 1:39 pm

OsOWNtheEAST==why are you wasting your time here?

  47. MG September 23rd, 2012 at 1:39 pm

  48. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:39 pm

  57. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 1:44 pm

  58. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:44 pm

  61. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I’ve been going to tons of O’s games since the 70′s.

You jelly? Or just mad the A’s are kicking your butts?

  62. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 1:47 pm

Kuroda picked a bad time to stink up the joint.

  63. austinmac September 23rd, 2012 at 1:47 pm

Bad call at first and a number of balls called strikes on AROD and Cano.

  64. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 1:48 pm

still a long ways to go….Kuroda just needs to settle down and somebody needs to offer the umpires more money than the A’s did.

  65. NYY_Girl_Penny September 23rd, 2012 at 1:49 pm

Im just curious how the O’s own the east from 2nd place and also have not been to the post season more then 1X in the the last century …LOL whats this guy barkin about? Maybe hes confused by a Cal Ripkin fantasy dream LOL !

    Entertainment :-)

  66. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:49 pm

    C’mon Nick, start something

  67. jackamir September 23rd, 2012 at 1:49 pm

  68. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:50 pm

    Troll getting fat today.

Amazing, one lonely O’s fan comes in here and the place starts to melt.

Trust me OsOWNtheEAST is more tolerable then a few other “regular” posters who show up with their ALL CAPS and look at me look at me garbage.

Just ignore this dude or gal.

  70. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Ok. Good. Fosse gave some insight on catchers moving to soon to show the target

  71. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Good AB Swish. Way to foul off a few pitches until you got one that was definitely out of the zone.

This game is still way up for grabs.

  72. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:53 pm

Lol @ the crowd going crazy for a fly all to center.

  73. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 1:53 pm

32 pitches, 18 strikes. Patience. This guy won’t make it to the 5th

  74. Jdiddyshownopitty September 23rd, 2012 at 1:53 pm

    whos melting?

  75. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:55 pm

    Complete BS.

  76. tucker September 23rd, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Pat M predicted this a week ago, but the pressure of a September pennant race at the Stadium is showing for the young A’s.

  77. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:56 pm

    Ouch

  78. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:56 pm

    Russell Martin LOL

  79. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 1:57 pm

    jmv,
Pitch count up over 40 for two innings pitched. We’ll get this guy pretty soon.

    Backup 2B/SS – Nix re-signed
    Backup OF – Jones re-signed

  81. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 1:58 pm

    whos melting?

    ——

The people who have been responding to the troll for the past 4 or 5 days now. Call it melting, getting flustered, etc.
Whatever, I couldn’t care less if people respond or ignore. But if you respond don’t complain when the troll doesn’t go away.

    Go Yanks.

  82. Bo knows September 23rd, 2012 at 1:58 pm

Martin just put together an excellent at bat and then – a brain cramp. Swung on a ball and rolled over.

  83. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    Keep that ball down Kuroda!

  84. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    Lol Duh Innings,

No one is taking Aroid and Tex’s contracts.

+Tex has a no trade…. I hope you enjoyed wasting your time coming up with that post.

  85. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 2:00 pm

    Great defensive placement there.

Shift works for us too sometimes.

  86. Bo knows September 23rd, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I like Nunez. One of my favorites

  87. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Nice.

  88. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 2:05 pm

This could be a fun and entertaining inning if Ichiro can bat in the same inning as Nunez is going to.

You have two guys who can do some different things. Makes it fun.

  89. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Nice AB Raul!!!

  90. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:06 pm

    Sarc.

  91. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Griffen sure has thrown a lot of pitches

  92. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Captain. 2 at bats. 2 times on base. Simply the Best.

  93. Tar September 23rd, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Just an awful game by the home plate ump, and it’s only the third. And that’s not mentioning the call at first that cost us a run.

  94. Benny Blanco September 23rd, 2012 at 2:10 pm

    No hit bid done.

  95. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:11 pm

    Ichiro! C’mon, take a pitch!

  96. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Man, this ump really wants to go home early

  97. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Yanks are going to have to start swinging at those low pitches if the ump keeps calling them strikes. Griffen 59 pitches through 3.

  98. OsOWNtheEAST September 23rd, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Yanks are making Griffen look like Bob Gibson.

    LOL.

  99. Brappy55 September 23rd, 2012 at 2:13 pm

Yo – O’s fan, why are you hanging out on a Yankees blog….pretty pathetic. At least if you’re gonna talk, wait till the last day of the season and see what happens.

  100. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Don’t know why, jmv, he still has to get past TSA at JFK. Does he like to stand in line? Haha

Good routine out on their best hitter

  101. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 2:15 pm

That last was a strike for Griffen.

  102. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:17 pm

Way to show your loyalty Os fan, reference to Gibson instead of Palmer, McNally, Martinez, eyc. Do you even know who those guys are? Haha

  103. tucker September 23rd, 2012 at 2:17 pm

So Duh Innings, do you still think it was the right move yesterday to pull Ibanez for a defensive replacement?

  104. Brappy55 September 23rd, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I’ll say this about the Orioles – they’re good this year – yes…they’ve had a great season.

    Can’t see it being consistent.
-They have a smoke and mirrors pitching staff (lets be real – Jason Hammel is not good, Joe Saunders sucks, Gonzalez is mediocre etc.)
-Wieters and Jones and Machado are great, the rest of the lineup are going to turn into pumpkins (McLouth, Chris Davis, Reynolds)

They may be decent for seasons to come, but they’re no powerhouse

  105. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:21 pm

That AB sucked Alex, went up there like a rookie.

  106. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 2:22 pm

Also with Andy getting cut off around 90 pitches tomorrow, I am sure Girardi wants Phelps available to piggy back his start.

    Sox/O’s, 1-1, 6th.

  182. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 3:17 pm

At some point they are going to have to start swinging at some of those pitches.

HP Ump has made it extremely clear that today that is going to be a strike. Is it a strike, no. But standing there and getting called out on strikes isn’t doing any good either.

  183. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Granderson has been absolutely brutal. His swing is different now but he swings and misses as much as he did his first year as a Yankee. Just terrible.

  184. MG September 23rd, 2012 at 3:19 pm

if Kuroda can put up two scoreless innings here he has a good chance for a ‘W’.

  185. Bo knows September 23rd, 2012 at 3:19 pm

Yep, he’s guessing, it’s long, and the same damn swing on every pitch regardless of the count.

  186. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Here comes the usual flock. Yanks, send them home.

  187. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:21 pm

Great job Nunez…It’s unreal how bad his fielding is…

  188. Bo knows September 23rd, 2012 at 3:21 pm

  189. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 3:22 pm

You wonder just how many chances Nunie needs to prove that he can’t field the position. Will Joe ever get the message?

  190. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:22 pm

That was a strike. This ump is awful, the A’s get everything called a strike.

  191. tucker September 23rd, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Classic example of an error caused by poor footwork.

  192. Pat M. September 23rd, 2012 at 3:22 pm

  195. Bobby Murcer September 23rd, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Granderson has been absolutely brutal. His swing is different now but he swings and misses as much as he did his first year as a Yankee. Just terrible.
    ————————————————————-

I am disappointed with him, but he had 94 RBI and and an OPS+ of 115, so
he hasn’t been a total failure. But compared to last year (OPS+ 142) he has
been disappointing. I would let him walk after next year.

  196. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Last AB was a beauty from Hiro

  197. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 3:23 pm

This is the 147th game in which Nunie has played in the field in his career. He has 27 errors.

  198. hardwired7 September 23rd, 2012 at 3:24 pm

A’s pitcher dries his hand with a rosin bag, throws it to the ground.

Home plate ump Mike Estabrook calls it strike three.

  199. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 3:25 pm

Is what Nunez gives you offensively enough to make up for his defensive miscues?

Answering yes to that answer is getting to be a tough sell.

  200. RSM September 23rd, 2012 at 3:26 pm

    Nunez is frustrating.
Great range, good glove and strong arm.
But then he makes these Knoblach-like mistakes.

  201. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 3:26 pm

    Damn it!!

  202. JobaTipsHisCap September 23rd, 2012 at 3:26 pm

    Kuroda stinks

  203. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 3:27 pm

What? You don’t think Nunie’s career OPS of .698 warrants him playing every day?

  204. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Girardi is trying to get by with Nunez in the field. But it’s obviously not going to happen. His fielding is too bad and it just cost them the lead.

  205. lil m September 23rd, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Nunez error coming back to bite them, not helped by Kuroda :( come on Yankees, let’s pick it up . . .

  206. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Time to root for the sawx to beat the O’s.

  207. ConcernedCitizen September 23rd, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Error cost us a run. Frustrating.

  208. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 3:28 pm

Wow some odd symmetry going on here. Yesterday when I checked in on the game the score was 4-4. Hopefully we end up with the W, same as yesterday. Also I believed Sux and O’s were tied, as they are now. Hopefully their game ends differently.

Don’t know how our runs scored (were they all earned, etc.) but I have to say that 4 runs from a starter isn’t what I’m looking for. Don’t remember the last game where he either didn’t give back a lead or had a real low-scoring game.

    Ooops. Now 5-4.

    :(

  209. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:29 pm

It seems like everytime Nunez makes an error it leads to a run and comes back to hurt them. When was the last time we saw Arod dive for a ball? I am not saying that he should have had that but I don’t remember the last time he actually tried to keep one of those balls in the infield. He always gives up on them.

  210. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Another way to look at Nunie: He’s now played 1082 innings in the field, the equivalent of 120 9-inning games. 27 errors. Who knows how many unearned runs. But he sure makes up for it with his OPS of .698. That’s mighty fine hitting.

  211. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Rapada is one of the worst fielding pitchers I have ever seen. Just brutal.

  212. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    Could have a lot worse

  213. Pat M. September 23rd, 2012 at 3:32 pm

  214. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 3:32 pm

  215. yankeenate September 23rd, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    Sloppy

  216. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    Insert “been”

  217. Captain Clutch September 23rd, 2012 at 3:33 pm

Get Nunez out of the field and bring in Nix. They can’t keep running him out there hoping that in these important games he will learn how to field. An easy play just cost them the lead.

  218. Bo knows September 23rd, 2012 at 3:34 pm

I am disappointed with him, but he had 94 RBI and and an OPS+ of 115, so
he hasn’t been a total failure. But compared to last year (OPS+ 142) he has
been disappointing. I would let him walk after next year.

    ————-

See Blake’s post up above. Everything is now geared to slugging and walks. Makes for agonizing baseball. I have no problem with the first two strikes. Whatever works. But with men in scoring position or third strike counts, those long loopy swings are just atrocious. What’s Granderson got, twelve hits and five are HRs? That’s just stat padding baseball.

  219. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 3:34 pm

    trish,
Welcome back. The usual suspects are arriving by the minute. With the A’s now in the lead, the rest of the posse will be here soon.

Now’s the time, boys. A big crooked number will look fine, thank you.

  220. jmv September 23rd, 2012 at 3:34 pm

  229. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Clay for Smith here and then his day will be done.

  230. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Yes Trisha, several innings ended with runners on and week grounder outs.

  231. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 3:49 pm

Clay benefits from that low strike being called today.

Phelps in. Must be ready a day earlier then Girardi thought he would be available for use out of the pen.

  232. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 3:50 pm

    trish,

Yanks are 9-1 in their last 10. That’s pretty great baseball!

  241. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 3:58 pm

That’s a great streak Trisha, but, we have to keep it going.

  242. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 3:59 pm

Chad’s pregame notes on Friday. Slow down on trying to get to cute, please.

“With Pettitte and Nova back in the rotation, David Phelps will resume his role in the bullpen, but he probably won’t be available in this series. “My guess is Monday,” Girardi said when asked when Phelps will be available. “We’ll have to see how he feels on Sunday.””

  243. Pat M. September 23rd, 2012 at 4:00 pm

David is overthrowing his hook now…….Come on David, just rock and throw to the glove

  244. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Old School, I hear ya. But with the number of games the Yanks have left, a loss at some point is statistically reasonable. Just don’t want fans despairing if the Yanks don’t win every single game they have left. (Of course, they just might do it!)

    :)

  245. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Reddick has left a small country on base this series.

  246. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:02 pm

How lucky are we to have someone like Phelps in the pen. He is going to be a phenomenal help to the Yanks.

  247. jacksquat September 23rd, 2012 at 4:02 pm

I guess Phelps was available today.

It’s a one run game, stop complaining so much.

  248. Bobby Murcer September 23rd, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Reddick has had a brutal series (0-16).

  249. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Unfortunately, the O’s are 8-2 in their last 10.

  250. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Unknown-that’s been our good. Luck. Reddick is Oakland’s best hitter, loads of power.

  251. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:05 pm

What’s the odds O’s fan become more obnoxious than Sux fans if they get in the playoffs? I put it at 7-1

    Way to suck Alex.

  252. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Hey jacksquat! What version of Griffin did we get today? Did the A’s have errors or did he just not have great stuff?

  253. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Definitely. I always get worried when Reddick comes to the plate. He is a good player. I am really pleased with how we have been able to hold him down this weekend.

  254. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:07 pm

“Unfortunately, the O’s are 8-2 in their last 10.”

    Yeah, noticed that too.

You’d think that the run differential would have to catch up with them some time.

    SUX TAKE 2-1 LEAD!

    :)

  255. jacksquat September 23rd, 2012 at 4:07 pm

I’d say neither starter pitched well.

  256. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:08 pm

    Thanks jacksquat.

  257. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 4:08 pm

    trisha,
Griffin threw 103 pitches through five.

    Tough one,

  259. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:09 pm

tom – yikes. Maybe the league is catching up with him. He didn’t start in the majors until the end of June, and he had an injury at some point.

  260. PacoDooley September 23rd, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Feels so weird to be rooting for the Red Sox, but great to see them take a lead on the Os! Thanks to MLB.tv I have both games going…

  261. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:12 pm

Good at bat Nick! C’mon guys stop stranding, Nicky! This is so like the last 3 games in Oakland,

  262. ConcernedCitizen September 23rd, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Painful to watch Curtis just guess at the plate. He’s better than that.

  263. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Paco, what makes it easy for me is where they are in the division. If they were fighting for a playoff spot, I wouldn’t be able to do it, even if it were to our benefit for their opponent to win.

  264. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Cody Ross was really a nice acquisition for the Sux. He definitely has power.

  265. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Bundy ML debut for the O’s right now in the 8th. 19 years old.

  266. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:18 pm

With the Sux game, the question is whether they are going to be able to close out the game. Hopefully Bailey will get the job done.

  267. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:19 pm

I’m blanking out on the name, but the Reds called up a 15 year old pitcher who won his first two games. I think it was Joe Nuxall or Nuxell? I don’t do google searches

  268. jacksquat September 23rd, 2012 at 4:19 pm

It’s not a Yankee game unless Boone Logan pitches…

  269. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 4:22 pm

    OldSchool,
Joe Nuxhall, signed at 13, up at 14, fine pitcher for a long time.

  270. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:23 pm

    Great!

  271. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Hopefully Phelps can still give Joe an inning tomorrow. Have to see how he feels after throwing today.

  272. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:24 pm

Old School, this is kind of funny but when I googled Nuxall, it said he was a Reds broadcaster who died in 2007 but was also a pitcher for the Reds who came up when he was 15. Could that be what you were thinking of?

  273. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 4:24 pm

Joe Nuxhall pitched when he was 15. Alas, he pitched only one game in the majors until he was 24, and he definitely did not win his first two games.

  274. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:25 pm

Look that up Tom? I’m sure he came up at 15, not 14. Anyway, it’s impressive even if it was during WWII. And no, I wasn’t alive then, haha

  275. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:26 pm

E chihuahua. Thome comes through and O’s have 2nd and 3rd and just IBBd the bases loaded. One out.

  276. Niblick September 23rd, 2012 at 4:26 pm

O’s have bases loaded in top of 9th. Can’t ever count on the sawx to do anything right.

  277. Duh Innings II September 23rd, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Michael Kay needs to shut up about “the fans” with his “I don’t understand the fans (getting on A-Rod)” nonsense.

This is the same guy who says one thing on YES then another on ESPN Radio. He has even said he can’t say certain things on YES that he can say on ESPN Radio. Really, Mike? Why not? Afraid you’ll be fired for really speaking your mind? As much as I don’t care for the Mets announcers, one thing I will give them is they don’t mince words, especially Keith Hernandez.
Kay has balls – never had them, never will have them. Time for him to get lost, too. Seriously, can anyone deal with Kay for an entire game? I can’t. I love it when he’s out of the booth. Zero egos in the booth and yet it’s all men who have actually played the game not a guy who gets on the fans more than the Yankees.

Kay has always been contemptous of the fans, thought he is above them (us.) Ef him.

A-Rod is an overpaid hasbeen and a contractual albatross plain and simple. If the Dodgers really want him despite this cold, hard fact Kay seems to be living in denial of, then the Yanks should trade him to get rid of his contract and use the money cleared from getting rid of him on new players. Legions of Yankees fans besides me would love for the Yanks to trade him.

  298. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 4:38 pm

The Yankees are getting addicted to these walk-off wins. I’d prefer a 12-3 victory every once in a while, easier on the old ticker.

  299. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:39 pm

I know this is definitely not a popular opinion, but I still like DJ and Ichiro split up. And if they have to be 1-2, I’d much rather see Ichiro lead off.

  300. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 4:41 pm

    trisha,
Splitting hairs. They’re both capable of doing either.

  301. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:41 pm

tom, we need the bottom of the inning magic again.

I was thinking that Minny was going to be the perfect bromide but they clobbered the Tigers 10-4 today. When you’re not in the hunt, it’s much easier to play relaxed ball and nothing but fun to play the role of spoiler. And what team would Minny rather play spoiler to than the Yanks!

  302. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:42 pm

tom – Ichiro is faster. Not splitting hairs at all.

  303. 4 NYY September 23rd, 2012 at 4:45 pm

I would go for Ichiro leading off as long as he hits well enough. Jeter with all his hits to right would be perfect.

Again, ONLY if Ichiro maintains a decent. avg.

  304. OldSchoolYankeeFan September 23rd, 2012 at 4:45 pm

    Ok, C’mon guys!!!

  305. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Ichiro leads off. It would be sweet if he got on. Maybe he could steal 2nd and 3rd.

    :)

  306. jacksquat September 23rd, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Ichiro is faster, so less likely to ground into a double play. He also makes more contact.

  307. jmills September 23rd, 2012 at 4:47 pm

Trish, as jmv said,” if you don’t feed the animals, they’ll go away.”

I know you can take care of yourself, but I do worry that it has carry over impact on you. Prufrock is exhausted with some of the things coming around. ( I have encouraged him to come around for you guys – higher element and all that )

    Best

  308. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 4:48 pm

    trisha,
But Jeter has been a better hitter, and can run the bases, too. Take your pick, but I won’t lose sleep over it.

Win this game, then worry about the Twins. We own them, and will continue to do so.

I love Australia and its denizens, but let’s kick Balfour’s ass this inning and go to Minnesota, the land of my birth, and sweep there, too.

‘Wanna beat the 2012 Yankees? Have a lead after eight innings.

This is the mentally weakest Yankees team I have ever seen and I wouldn’t be surprised if they finished as a wildcard team and lost the wildcard game at all.

Cano is not worth more than four years or $18M a year because history shows great secondbasemen fade after age 32 – see Hall Of Fame secondbasemen Ryne Sandberg and Joe Morgan which Cano is neither of.

Cano turns 31 at contract’s end (I’m assuming his 2013 club option will be picked up.) Offer him four years at $18M a year and if he refuses, thanks for the memories.

How could the Yanks possibly give five or more years and $20M or more a year to a guy who nice a player as he is has never posted at least 30 HR AND 100 RBI in a single season (85 RBI the way he’s going)?

The Yankees just won a series. And they lost the game on an error made by a player who is not a regular. And they are now 8-2 in their last 10 games. And the game before this series started, they scored 10 runs. It’s hard for me to get down on a team like that.

As long as our starting pitching holds up, we should be nothing but good to go.

    ————–

‘Never said Cano was a Hall Of Famer, I’m pointing out that HOF 2B go south after age 32.

baseball-reference.com Ryne Sandberg and Joe Morgan. Crap after age 32 for the most part (both had decent age 33 seasons and those were their last good seasons post age 32.)

I would definitely consider moving Cano. He turns 31 next November and I don’t see anything about him to make me think he could have a 1998 Jeter or prime A-Rod like season.

The guy will have spent his entire twenties never posting 30 HR and 90 or more RBI in a single season (like I said 85 RBI the way he’s going.)

  338. Nilsson September 23rd, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Seriously. The team concludes a 7 game winning streak and there are still inane, rants. Dumasses. Turn the page on this game. It’s over with. Start a new winning streak tomorrow.

Speaking of dumasses, Dolphins try to ice the Jets kicker in OT. Jets kicker is blocked. But TO is already called. Jets win on the next kick.

And no way should CC pitch on short rest this postseason after the problems he has had this year.

CC – Kuroda – Pettitte – Hughes. They have 4 good guys, no need to go to short rest.

  342. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 5:12 pm

“So Kuroda has a couple bad games and you are already knocking him out of the playoff rotation? Pretty ridiculous. You never like the guy, for no reason, and it’s showing again.

jacksquat, stay with me on this one. I don’t have favorites. I want the pitching that gives the Yankees the best chance of winning. It’s that simple.

You don’t give up 4 runs and give back leads in the postseason and come out the victor. Kuroda’s last several games haven’t been good.

Look, I was afraid to have CC in the rotation if you remember right. But after his last game, I think his stuff has come back!

If Kuroda was throwing up nothing but goose eggs then you’d have an argument.

Please don’t accuse me of things that aren’t factually correct.

You have the right to want any rotation you want. So do I have that right.

  343. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 5:13 pm

“So CC is not only back in your postseason rotation but pitching game 1? That’s quite a jump! ”

I didn’t have those in any particular order.

  344. jacksquat September 23rd, 2012 at 5:14 pm

It doesn’t matter Trisha, you can’t use only 3 pitchers this year, there aren’t as many off days in series’. So you have to use 4, and Kuroda is one of them.

  345. bruceb September 23rd, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Very good home stand but Yanks will need a bit more offensive output on this seven-game road trip. Can’t keep calling on Soriano and Robertson day after day. Trouble is you don’t feel comfortable with our B relievers no matter how big the lead.

  346. Hassey September 23rd, 2012 at 5:16 pm

The 1998 team just devoured the whole league. The 2001 mariners won 116 not by devouring anyone but because they magically took advantage of literally every opportunity they were given. It would be wild to know how many wins the 2012 yanks would have if they took advantage of even more opportunities.

  347. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 5:16 pm

    jmills,
People always envy. In the end, you get what earn and pay for. Shouldn’t that be the ideal? At least, that’s the Yankees way. On to the Twin Cities!

“It doesn’t matter Trisha, you can’t use only 3 pitchers this year, there aren’t as many off days in series’. So you have to use 4, and Kuroda is one of them.”

Then maybe you just don’t use him in a pivotal game if you can at all avoid it.

  349. jmills September 23rd, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Duh, on top of it- I don’t like the way Rand treated her partner in favour of Nathaniel Brandon – but she does have some very relevants – please keep that in mind, sir or madamme or whatever you are.

I just think Robbie’s most expensive years lie ahead for him and his best years are behind him…….I also question how well he’ll age……..If the right deal came calling The Yankee Front Office I’m certain will think about moving him……..Granderson should be on the move this winter and I’ve always been a Curtis fan, however the club needs to retool with younger components…….Tough call for Cashman and company

  354. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 5:24 pm

“Right deal come about, you have to think about moving Cano”

Id listen in anything……but I think it would be very difficult to get fair value for him and unless you replace him it will really hurt the offense short term….youd have to get a star hitter back in return to consider it I think.

Nunez really hurts them defensively…..I really wish he could catch the ball because he can do some other nice things…..between the umpire costing them a run early and the errors just a bad day.

Still 2 of 3 is a good series against a good team and they were gojng to lose eventually ….luckily the Sox actually won a game and we head to Minny still a game in front.

  355. Against All Odds September 23rd, 2012 at 5:24 pm

They aren’t moving Cano. I can see Grandy but Cano…no way.

  356. RSM September 23rd, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Bad call and an error cost this game.
Final score should have been 4-3.

  357. UnKnown September 23rd, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Everyone’s got 5 more starts left. Depending on if the division race goes down to the final game, everyone will probably just stay on turn as you try to TCB winning the East.

The way the season ends will probably dictate how (CC, Kuroda, Hughes, and Pettitte) are slotted into a playoff series.

Meaning Kuroda is scheduled for Game 162 so if the Yanks end up with the best record their series would start on Sunday and Kuroda would fall naturally in place to pitch Game 2 on Monday.

Lots of decisions to be made. Putting the broom to the Twins these next three days comes first before worrying about the Postseason rotation.

  358. Andymelillo September 23rd, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Kuroda hasn’t been pitching all that great an risp is bad

  359. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Hope all is well with you. Exciting pennant race, no? A real fan’s dream, a “results now” type’s nightmare. We’ll get at least two in Minnesota, and wait and see what the O’s do. I like it, and we’ll just have to see.

  360. bruceb September 23rd, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Don’t know whether to look on this series as a positive or a negative. On the one hand, we could have easily lost all three games. On the other, we walked off twice. It worries me that we had so much trouble putting away a light-hitting team with good pitching, but for now I’ll go with the positive. Least we won a couple of nail-biters. Still don’t think this team will go very far in the post-season.

  361. NYY_Girl_Penny September 23rd, 2012 at 5:29 pm

The umps did us no favors today thats for certain, but Grandy and Cano as well as the usual Martin hurt us just as much.. Get tiresome watchin the HR or nothing.. You can add Arod to the list today too .. But why Arod gets the boos i dont get it.

  362. jmills September 23rd, 2012 at 5:30 pm

LGY – I don’t recall Trish, ” riting,” off any one person worthy.

  363. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 5:31 pm

Id have to get like a Felix and Ackley or….an Upton and Skaggs or…..something like that for Cano……

I agree that they run the risk of overpaying long term on him but he just means so much to their current offense…..hes their only prime age hitter….so if you deal him then you either need to get another prime age hitter back plus more or you need to be ok with taking a step back for a couple of seasons.

  364. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 5:32 pm

  365. Tidrow September 23rd, 2012 at 5:34 pm

  366. NYY_Girl_Penny September 23rd, 2012 at 5:34 pm

All the .200 hitting players are whats killing ghis offense and for the month of september thats 5 out of 9 bats! Grandersons .190 for septmber is killing us.

  367. Pat M. September 23rd, 2012 at 5:36 pm

tomingeorgia……..I think we might see another down to the wire thriller , although I can’t imagine anything like what we witnessed last season on game 162………..For the record, I’m once again not promoting the tradfing of Robbie Cano, however I’m less likely to be shocked or surprised if that were to happen……Tom, still no word or updtaes on our pal Greenberet 7……..I know that Doreen does scans for him with no news which I guess can be viewed as a positive of sorts………Giradi needs to keep Ichiro in the 1 or 2 spot in the lineup if they want to prosper next month…….

You really cant “build around” one player in baseball anyway….you need multiple good players to be a good team…..and the issue with Cano is that he would be very hard to replace in the short term……you take Cano out of the lineup and its suddenly very old and one dimensional……youd have to get a ton in return to deal him I think….

This is the schedule for any team in the AL playoffs. Will be very tough if you tie in the division and if you become a wild card.

Wed. 10/3 -last game regular season
Thurs. 10/4-tiebraker games if needed to determine division winner
    Fri. 10/5- Wild Card Game
Sat. 10/6 -ALDS for division winning #2 and #3 seeds
Sun 10/7-ALDS for #1 seed and WC
    Sat 10/13-start ALCS

Might need 6 starters if you are the team to need a tiebraker and go in as the wild card!

There’s no sense trading one of your best players for prospects when you are a team that’s expected to compete in the post season.

If he doesn’t turn things around this season, or if he underperforms next season, it would certainly give the Yankees something to think about.

Boras will encourage Cano to test free agency. He’ll have his aides prepare a 300+ dossier showing how Robinson Cano will go down as the greatest 2nd baseman in the history of the game.

The Yankees might try to extend him, and the final decision to accept an extension will be up to Cano, but I suspect Boras will just have him look how Jared Weaver took a too team friendly contract in a major metropolitan city.

I think we’ll just have to wait and see if Cano is instrumental in the Yankees advancing in the playoffs and what happens during the 5 day window the Yankees have to decide if They have Sori one more year, if Swisher get’s a qualifying offer, etc.

  401. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 6:45 pm

If there is anything I am fanatika about it is starting pitching. Big surprise. Since starting pitching is so critical it is natural that I would want the best out there at any time.

If a pitcher is having a down time, no amount of your wishing and hoping is going to change things.

I guess your memories of 2008 are nonexistent. At least I’m looking for the Yankees to win.

With the rest of the team that some posters obssess over, an individual hitter in a dry spell isn’t going to have the impact that a losing pitcher is over the course of a season because there are 8 other hitters to pick him up.

So laugh at me all you want. And if one of your pet starting pitchers is the one to blow up the postseason, I know that the lohud faithful will do nothing but praise him.

  415. yankee21 September 23rd, 2012 at 7:03 pm

This was a game you flush and move on. NYY did its part by taking 2/3 from a red-hot club.

    Three points:
Kuroda needs to get back on track. He has not pitched well recently and I wonder if the season length and stress is catching up to him a bit. I would love for Joe G to give him an extra day if the opportunity presents.
Ichiro needs to stay in the line-up until he cools off. Everyday, regardless of LHP or not.
Nunez needs to figure it out defensively damn quick, NYY needs what he brings to the table offensively but they cannot risk a routine play getting botched.

Move on though and take 2/3 in MIN.

  424. Yankee Trader September 23rd, 2012 at 7:15 pm

    Yankees21-

The Yankees have the easiest schedule down the stretch, except maybe the Tigers who blew a chance at 1st by losing to the Twins today 10-4, while the White Sox were losing to the Angels.

I’m a new member of Team Greedy. I want a sweep of the 63-89 Twins, and 3 of 4 from the Blue Jays before the Yankees come home to face the Red Sox while the O’s go to Tampa their last 3 games.

  425. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 7:15 pm

“can anyone explain what this person is talking about?”

Not sure but it certainly doesn’t sound kind or complimentary!

  426. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:16 pm

Right now Nova is slated for game 2 in the ALDS but because of the rainout Andy is pushed back to Thurs 10/4 and there is likely no game.

I would rather see Andy in game 2 than Nova, meant to be?

  427. Madrugador September 23rd, 2012 at 7:16 pm

I am not sure giving Kuroda one more day is going to make much of a difference and I don’t know how you would give him that day since they have no more off days.

Seems too simple but Trisha is right, if they don’t pitch well they won’t do well.

  428. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 7:20 pm

“Seems too simple but Trisha is right, if they don’t pitch well they won’t do well.”

Geeze Louise thanks for recognizing that. That’s all I’ve been trying to point out.

  429. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:21 pm

CC and Andy on the road vs Det or Chi and Kuroda and Hughes at home games 3-4. CC game 5 if necc.

  430. Yankee Trader September 23rd, 2012 at 7:27 pm

    Trisha-

I would like the Yankees to win the division and be the #1 seed and play the Orioles who would be the WC and just beaten the A’s, or the Rangers[the A's and Rangers have 7 games remaining].

I think based on their remaining schedules the Tigers will win the central and be the #3 seed facing the West division winner.

    The absolute worst scenario:
Yankees and O’s finish tied, O’s get home field.
O’s win that Thursday and the Yankees end up the WC flying out to Oakland that night to play the A’s on Friday.

  431. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 7:27 pm

    mr mick,
He means that anyone who doesn’t see eye to eye with him knows nothing. After all, as a batting practice pitcher who knows everybody, he doesn’t need our opposing opinions.

  432. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 7:28 pm

YT – be right back to discuss this! Have to take a call.

    :)

Duh Innings II September 23rd, 2012 at 4:26 pm

    *Kay has NO balls.
    ==================
But he did see Springsteen last night.
Is that a badge of honor for generation X?

  434. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:30 pm

After all, as a batting practice pitcher who knows everybody, he doesn’t need our opposing opinions.
    ======================
I thought he was a catcher and spoke to Steinbrenner in that photoshopped picture?

  435. Yankee Trader September 23rd, 2012 at 7:31 pm

    Mick-

Don’t you think the Yankees will save a lefty, Pettitte for YS game 3 and go with CC and Kuroda on the road?

Of course all bets are off if the Yankees have a playoff game to decide the division winner and then end up the WC. :(

  436. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:31 pm

O’s win that Thursday and the Yankees end up the WC flying out to Oakland that night to play the A’s on Friday.
    ==========
Something like that happened once and they won that too.

  437. Madrugador September 23rd, 2012 at 7:32 pm

How do ties for the playoffs get broken? They Yanks and O’s split the season series and at the moment, the O’s have a better record against the division.

  438. blake September 23rd, 2012 at 7:36 pm

“I would rather see Andy in game 2 than Nova, meant to be?”

If I had to guess….as of right now we wont be seeing Nova at all in the ALDS unless its out of the pen.

  439. Yankee Trader September 23rd, 2012 at 7:37 pm

If they are tied the O’s and Yankees play October 4th, the next afternoon after the end of the season. The team with the best division record would get home field.

  440. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:37 pm

If balt an ny tie, then these remaining games are crucial as right now I have it as 29-19 NY and 28-18 balt in division (baseball talk)

  441. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:38 pm

tie goes to div record, head to head they are even

  442. Pat M. September 23rd, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Mick……I agree with Blake, you’re not going to see Ivan Nova starting any games once The Postseason begins …..Unless there’s some type of injury to the front 4 guys

  443. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Of course all bets are off if the Yankees have a playoff game to decide the division winner and then end up the WC.
    —————————–
If the Yanks play on thurs it’s andy’s turn

  444. Madrugador September 23rd, 2012 at 7:40 pm

I have NY 36-29 and O’s 37-25 in the division.

  445. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Nova is just too inconsistent and is good trade bait this OS….He will not sniff a PS game and should not even be on the roster….rather have functional, versatile relievers like Eppley and Lowe.

  446. Yankee Trader September 23rd, 2012 at 7:45 pm

    I have to go.

    Enjoy the evening.

  447. mick September 23rd, 2012 at 7:45 pm

i missed TB in my calcs, madrugar is right, balt wins if a tie unless they collapse , then we win anyway

  448. Madrugador September 23rd, 2012 at 8:07 pm

Minnesota tomorrow after their double header today.
Petit for us and Hendricks for them.
Hendricks- a 23 yo who recently won his first game. Horrible ERA/WHIP but may have found something with his last starts.
Hope Petit gives us 6-7 strong innings.
    We’ll see.

  449. tomingeorgia September 23rd, 2012 at 8:08 pm

    Fellas and gals,
All we have to do is win our games. Is that too hard to realize? I don’t care what anybody else does. It;s in our hands, and we have the horses. Just do it, fercrissakes.

  450. Madrugador September 23rd, 2012 at 8:26 pm

Nice post game wrap up Brian.
    I miss Chad.

  451. Nilsson September 23rd, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Still recall when Chad Jennings published 7 or 8 blog posts dedicated to Jorge Posada … on the same day. During the peak of the Joe Paterno scandal. Chad was working his tail off back then lol. In all seriousness, Chad’s good and he runs a quality blog.

  452. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 23rd, 2012 at 8:42 pm

tom, I was just wondering what iterations people would desire most. I’m talking strategy. Some people think it’s better to play one team, some another.
