Yankees pregame: Ichiro No. 2 again
Brian Heyman back again for Chad today, rookie hazing day at the Stadium. The rookies are supposed to dress up in costumes left for them after the game for the trip to Minnesota. I do have a sense of humor, but never really cared for the whole hazing concept, even for NFL rookies having to sing their school fight songs for a room full of veterans. Anyway we’ll see what it’s in store after the game.
Nick Swisher has hit anywhere from second to seventh. He has batted second 51 times, but he’s in the five hole today. Ichiro Suzuki is batting second for the second straight game. He’s batting .700 over his last five games.
“He’s just swinging the bat so well, and it gives you a real speed element up there,” Joe Girardi said. “Swish has been really good in moving him around this year, because he’s one of our wild cards in breaking up all the lefties. So I’ve had to move him around a little bit without (Mark Teixeira) being here. We’ve been missing one of those right-handed bats or a switch-hitter for the last two and a half months basically with Al (Rodriguez) being out. So it’s just the way Ichi has been swinging and getting on base and can run, the speed that he has — it’s helped.”
The last six games against the A’s have been decided by one run.
“We were on the wrong end of four in a row at their place,” Girardi said. “We’ve been fortunate to win these last two. They’ve been very good ballgames. Who knows what’s going to happen today?”
Teixeira is set to fly to Tampa this afternoon to continue the rehab process. Brett Gardner still hasn’t been activated, but Girardi said he will travel with the team for this final road trip of the regular season.

And frankly, I like that the O’s have improved so much. This has been sort of a boring year from a Yanks’ perspective. Not much young blood (notwithstanding Phelps), inconsistent offense, so-so pen (other than Soriano and Robertson)
But this race with the O’s is downright exciting.
Having the Orioles relevant is good for baseball….good teams in baseball towns with awesome stadiums is good for baseball…..doesnt mean they arent annoying me this year though
Trisha, today’s A’s pitcher, unlike the previous two, actually has better numbers on the road than at home. So his ERA hasn’t been helped by his home park. However, he has only 12 starts this year, so it’s kind of a smaller sample size. We’ll see how he looks when he pitches.
The O’s finish in TB with a WC still at stake.
Someone will collapse…
You can tell that the people complaining about lack of moderation haven’t been here very long. We have a lot less bickering going on than when Pete was here, and Pete moderated this forum. Pete cut down on some things but there was a lot of duking it out allowed when he was here. However, the O’s joker wouldn’t still be here if Pete were here. He absolutely did not tolerate trolls who showed up with the sole purpose of talking trash. He did always allow people from other teams who came here to talk baseball and did so intelligently.
Blake-
“doesnt mean they arent annoying me this year though”
Beats being annoyed by the Sux or the Rays.
“doesnt mean they arent annoying me this year though ”
I don’t have much use for those attention-grabbing fans either with inflammatory and personal-attack posts. And it really doesnt matter which team they represent: could be the O’s, the Sox, the Yanks or the Mudville 9.
Sorry Trish but I ain’t no troll.
Just a truth teller.
Enjoy wat hint your season end in the 1 game WC playoff followed by years or Yankee mediocrity.
This place has been relatively calm and more mature than in the past lately.
It’s just evolution.
Some call it survival of the fittest.

jacksquat, I was actually only joking with ya.
And I agree with you that despite his numbers, it is a small sample size. And anything can actually happen on any given day. So it definitely is a wait and see.
It also shows that people of good will (you and I in this case) can go at each other a little and have moments of frustration with each other but as quickly get past it! Because we are nevertheless rowing in the same direction.

Perhaps it’s the way you choose to tell your truth. Believe me, you would have been ridden out on a rail if Pete were still running this forum. In fact, I think that Chad would do the same thing if anyone showed him your posts.
But I have bigger fish to fry. Besides, I know who my Yankees are and that’s what matters to me.
I could care less about the O’s or any other team. All that concerns me is the Yankees, and how they are going about their business. Do things properly, and Everything else takes care of itself. You notice Girardi got off his duff after that blown call at 1B yesterday, in contrast to the Balt. blown call that decide that game??? He is sensitive to public opinion. Probably explains why he no longer keeps his binder in Full View.
Some call it separating the wheat from the chaff.

mick – not a question, and more about that later.
Definitely won’t be here for the start of the game – leaving now to get a few things done – so here’s my game cheer now:
GO HIROKI!!!
GO YANKS!!!
GO JAYS!!!
DON’T GO O’S!!!
Later y’all!
Trish is hilarious.
Obviously a simpleton when it comes to IP bans and things of that nature. Go ahead, be a little tattle tale and sen Chad some of my posts. I’ve never used any profanity or personal attacks. Just hear to discuss some baseball with a rival team, sorry if I hurt your feelings. Besides, if I get “banned” I have a sneaking suspicion I will still be able to post.
Go A’s Go!!!!
Go O’s Go!!!
Go Yanks Go right to the retirement home!!!
Have a great day everyone….. even you “OsOWNtheEAST”
I actually hope the Orioles win…. the Wild Card, that is.

just like intelligent people aren’t interested in tea party fanatics, intelligent people aren’t interested in oppositional people who just use their yankee fandom to put out their personal dysfunctional opinions.
quite frankly this blog has been way dumbed down by an oppositional minority and it has nothing to do with baseball.
“Just hear to discuss some baseball with a rival team”
Discuss is respectfully then…..rival fans have always been welcome here if they offer anything of substance….so far you haven’t.
“just like intelligent people aren’t interested in tea party fanatics, i”
I thought someome as sophisticated as you would love tea parties
So how does this fight to the finish impact the Yanks in the postseason? Are they tired in the postseason like 2005? Are they peaking at the right time?
They said that Pineda might start throwing in September. I wonder if he is throwing yet.
Hi, guys!
Seems the breakfast club has been kind of infected. Just don’t feed the animals, and they’ll go away
MTU, good to see you around, it’s been a while since the last time I did catch you!
JS, that’s good news about Pineda! Where did you read it?

I think he can be back mid-season. It all will depend on his discipline and will. The fact that it was a parcial tear give us more hope
