Nova stumbles again as Yankees lose ground

Another rocky start from Ivan Nova came at a bad time on Thursday. Given a chance to gain ground without watching the scoreboard, the Yankees lost 6-0 against the last-place Blue Jays and let the idle Orioles pull within a game in the American League East. Nova pitched his second dud in a row, allowing four runs on six hits through 4.2 innings. Brett Lawrie’s two-run homer and Edwin Encarnacion’s two-run double did more than enough damage against a Yankees offense that had just five hits, all of them from either Robinson Cano or Russell Martin. Derek Lowe and former Mariners closer David Aardsma — who made his Yankees debut — allowed a run apiece to let the game get further out of reach.
