Cano going for X-ray on left hand
After being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, Robinson Cano stayed in tonight’s game, but he’s now going for X-ray to make sure nothing is broken.
The only test available at Rogers Centre is something called a fluoroscope, which is basically a bad X-ray machine. Cano had a fluoroscopy that revealed no break, but the test isn’t trusted so he’s going for an X-ray to make sure. For the time being, indications are that Cano should be fine, but given what happened to Alex Rodriguez earlier this year — and given the fact Cano is starting to heat up — the Yankees won’t be completely at ease until they know for sure.

Well… The Blue Jays should not be allowed to ever play again until they update their medical. No XRAY machine? REALLY. A multi million dollar baseball team has no xray machine? WOW. College football teams have xray, mri, and state of the art medical. But a pro team cant afford it? What a joke.
They’re making sure there isn’t any further damage, i.e. very small hairline fracture. Good stuff Chad, I learned something today.
Tabbert, I agree with you, the Jays can afford an x-ray machine.
When I was a child a local shoe store had a fluoroscope machine to help parents fitting shoes for their children. It worked.
Barry, my Jays should have had the equipment for Cano!
Sorry! Embarrasment.
Lack of an X-ray machine could be related to the Canadian medical system. It’s a long wait to get routine work done (although I would consider this an emergency procedure [Yes, I'm a radiologist!])
Barry-
I also had my feet fluoroscoped when I was a kid…totally unnecessary radiation exposure – but who knew then….
Fan since, you are right, but, Rogers has the money to pay for a stupid X-ray machine.
I am in Canada right now. It is my understanding that radiation therapy and mri’s in Quebec and Ontario are routinely handled by sending patients to Vermont and upstate New York.
Fan, I am a trained Dentist up here – get Cano an x-ray! Stupid Rogers!!!!
Barry, we are going broke over health care up here. ( But, Rogers has the $$$$$ to get Cano a damn x-ray!!!! )
I believe it!
A good friend (and former co-resident) was Chairman of Radiology at a major Toronto hospital some years back, and we spent a few hours, while I was there for some course work, discussing the advantages/disadvantages of Canadian vs U.S. medicine, tax structures, etc. There are some advantages to their system, but not if you want/need work done expeditiously.
I think that it’s not whether they can afford it, it’s whether or not the Government will let them have it!
Fansince – I am a Canadian born, but tired of the crying things up here – get to work!!!
Can’t, JM, I’m retired
Fansince, I don’t mean you, I mean other dumb Canadians.
