Is there such a thing as gambler loyalty?
    Can they co-exist?

  2. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:13 am

If we lose due to Nuney or Jones defense there will be hell to pay.

  3. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:13 am

    Yay on Nunez.

Oy, Jones on turf. It hurts to watch him run at the best of times.

  4. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:15 am

Nunez needs to go to Arthur Murray’s School of Dance to work on his footwork.

    Fred Astaire he aint.

    :)

Two starters in history have had a season over 80 IP where K/9 >8, BB/9 125: Shields in 2010, Nova in 2012. Odd year

  6. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:16 am

His right arm needs some work too.

  7. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:17 am

Does the reverse jinx even work with Jones ?

  8. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:17 am

The hoohaw on the Nunez error was way over the top. At most, it cost the Yankees one base. Jeter doesn’t get there so it’s a single.

  9. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:19 am

Yankees are playing the second easiest schedule[the Tigers are first], based on the opposing teams winning%. The Rangers the hardest.

The Yankees “should” finish with the #1 seed and play the winner of the WC on their home turf next Sunday, having 3 days rest to set their rotation.

If it’s the A’s do you go with CC and Hughes away, giving Hughes a bigger pitcher friendly park to pitch in?

If it’s the O’s, a short bus ride, is it CC and ?

If the Angels sneak in, Kuroda has pitched well vs them this year and last year as a Dodger. Does he pitch game 2?

    Thoughts?

  10. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:20 am

With his loyalty he could take Jones and Nunez.
If Gardy cant hit maybe you leave him home and take an extra pitcher not named Nova.
Bad message but would rather have experienced relievers like Eppley and Lowe.

  11. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:22 am

I’m a big fan of “Make the plays, you should make” and that’s Jeter.

Discounting Nunez’ range and ability because of a possible error is also wrong.

  12. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:22 am

    YT
Didn’t we establish that the WC team gets the 1st 2 games at home?

  13. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:23 am

    YT-

My thoughts are that the O’s have taken a magic carpet ride this season.

I’d rather go up against them than the A’s.

I think the O’s will prevail over the A’s.

Hope the Halos don’t make it and Scioscia get’s the boot.

  14. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:23 am

Look at these career regular season numbers for Romero vs the Yankees, and tell me why Jones is playing binder Joe:

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/.....cky-romero

  15. LGY September 29th, 2012 at 10:23 am

Nunez at SS. You have to be kidding me.

  17. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:24 am

  18. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:25 am

    Nix is 7/14 v romero

  19. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:25 am

Semantics. The Yankees would play games 1 and 2 on the WC’s[their] home turf! :)

  20. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:26 am

    gardy is 9/17 v romero

  21. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:27 am

Apparently Girardi see it has one his prime directives that his players should be rested regularly to keep them fresh and healthy.

Good in principle but we’ve got dobermans chasing us.

    So there’s that.

    ;)

  22. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:28 am

i’m starting to believe joe reads lohud and does these things to spite us.

  23. fantasygame101 September 29th, 2012 at 10:28 am

hope the hr is the beginning for andruw. If girardi is that stubborn then hope for the best for andruw

  24. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:29 am

def not going by the binder today.

  25. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:30 am

    ———————————-
    My feeling exactly.

I don’t even want to contemplate if the Yankees and O’s finish tied and have to play a 1 game playoff to decide who is the WC, playng the very next day!

  27. Chads Dog September 29th, 2012 at 10:32 am

    **bark bark**

Andruw Jones in LF… Lol, Girardi is a fool.

At least Nunez has some upside offensively and on the base paths. Jones is a flat out waste of space.

Girardi’s blind loyalty to his veterans earns him the name “Clueless Joe”

    **Roof**

  28. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:32 am

It’s funny – Joe gets the monicker “Binder Joe”.

But when he doesn’t then the Yelping is all about the binder.

Make an assertive statement – Maybe.

  29. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:33 am

Let me try this reverse Jinx.

Andruw. You’re like a Hoover. You suck and blow.

    Hope that works.

    :)

  30. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:34 am

    RAB’s:
Teixeira will play five innings today and likely rejoin Yankees next week
    Mike Axisa .

  31. bruceb September 29th, 2012 at 10:34 am

Was hoping we had finished with this lefty-righty stuff, but clearly we haven’t. Hope I’m wrong but playing Jones and Nunez on the “magic carpet” could come back to bite Joe G in the bum.

  32. MTU September 29th, 2012 at 10:36 am

    Girardi thinks he’s Tony LaRussa.

    The matchup King.

He has six-pack abs so in reality he has no gut.

    ;)

  33. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:36 am

Again. Nix is 7 for 14 vs Romero .
    It makes no sense.
    Jones on turf is crazy.
And he will strikeout 3 times vs Romero.
Gardy really can’t swing if his 9 for 17 isn’t good enough.

  34. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:39 am

Watching Ibanez and Gose play LF last night was a painful experience. And Jones comparatively is a steep step down.

  35. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:39 am

    Bo-

You’re right. I like Girardi and shouldn’t have jokingly referred to him as Binder Joe.

I wish the media would ask him however why he’s playing Andruw Jones, who has a career OPS .377 vs Romero?

  36. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:39 am

Joe is clearly playing a hunch today with the Jones/Nunez parlay.
If Nunez throws one away in the 1st inning LoHud will erupt.
If it works he looks like a genius…he is headstrong, for sure.

  37. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:40 am

  40. mick September 29th, 2012 at 10:42 am

He is playing Jones because of the righty-lefty thing altho he could play McGehee at 1st and Swish in RF.
Guess defense doesn’t matter as much as the rh-lh loyalty platoon…

  41. Bo knows September 29th, 2012 at 10:43 am

I’m with Joe on Nunez on turf (I’m sure he’s ecstatic about my support).

Following that reasoning, Jones on turf, does not compute. I’d have shot Jones, a month ago.

  42. Yankee Trader September 29th, 2012 at 10:45 am

On top of that Jones at the Rogers Center is 1 for !5, a double, with an OPS .309

In 2001, Jones’ batting average fell and his strikeouts went up. Jones finished with 34 home runs and 104 RBIs but his average dropped to only .251 and he struck out 142 times. By now, Jones had gained nearly 30 pounds since arriving at the Major Leagues, greatly diminishing his speed on the basepaths (he would not steal more than 11 bases after 2001.

    MTU,

Nobody has the great walk back to the dugout smile like Jonesy. It can take a nothing at bat and make it all seem worthwhile.

Then, when he smiles while loping after a ball in the corner helps everyone on the team realize the game is just not that important.

  82. 86w183 September 29th, 2012 at 11:18 am

    My lineup today:

Jeter DH, Ichiro LF, A-Rod 3B, Cano 2B, Swisher RF, Martin C, McGeheee 1B, Nunez SS, Dickerson CF.

  89. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 29th, 2012 at 11:29 am

Romero has a much high percentage of ground outs than he does fly outs. That could have played into his putting Jones into the outfield today. Or at least it should put the minds to rest of those of you who immediately started to worry about Jones’s play in the outfield seriously affecting the game.

Perhaps Girardi is thinking that if his offense isn’t going to be made or broken by whether Jones is in the lineup or Dickerson is. (And is should be apparent that Dickerson isn’t necessarily needed for defensive purposes.)

comet, in Romero’s last start against the Ys, a week and a half ago, he gave up 1 ER in 6 innings and his outing before that against them 2 ER in 7 innings. I’m not saying that the Yankees won’t be able to hit him, just that he is capable of having good games and seems to like pitching against the Ys.

  106. Chads Dog September 29th, 2012 at 11:43 am

    Trisha’s posts…. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If Girardi put Andruw Jones at SS and started Rapada on the mound today she would try to come up with some reasoning why they were appropriate moves.

It must be nice living in a world where the Yankees can do no wrong.

  107. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 29th, 2012 at 11:43 am

    OOPS!

    I meant Andy, not Romero.

Why did I just know that “Chad’s Dog” was just lying in wait?

  109. Captain Clutch September 29th, 2012 at 11:44 am

Romero gets hammered against a lot of teams. The Sox own him. But he seems to pitch good against the Yanks. The key is seeing his change up and laying off of it. But the Yanks have trouble doing that.

  110. MG September 29th, 2012 at 11:44 am

The Yankees need to suck it up and score some runs for Andy today, he will pitch well against a very free swinging Jays team.

I’m not crazy about Nunez at SS but Girardi already said he would DH Jeter one game in Toronto on the turf, today’s about as good a day as any and Nix still won’t be available tomorrow anyway (or anytime soon, most likely, hip flexor injuries don’t resolve themselves overnight).

If Nix is out for any length of time, who is the backup at 2nd? Robby better plan on being out there every inning of every game because they don’t have anyone else.

  111. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 29th, 2012 at 11:45 am

Because of course “Chad’s Dog” is new to this forum!

    LMAO!!!!!

  113. Cashmoney September 29th, 2012 at 11:47 am

MG, i think they have some options in AAA if that’s the case. but then again, we got like handful games to go… everyone needs to man up… plenty time to rest in off season.

  114. Chads Dog September 29th, 2012 at 11:47 am

Just got in from a walk, **Woof**, read your insane reasoning and felt compelled to comment. My apologies.

They”ll have to activate Adams. I’d be on board with that.

You probably knew I meant Andy since Andy is ground ball pitcher.

    But who’s counting.

    Yep

    I say again “Dickerson”

  118. jacksquat September 29th, 2012 at 11:50 am

2B is actually the once place Nunez has a decent fld% (.977).

  119. MG September 29th, 2012 at 11:50 am

Activating a minor league infielder with no major league experience for critical games at the end of the season isn’t exactly a great idea.

If Nix isn’t available for the playoffs then Nunez will be on the roster and he’ll have to be available to play 2nd base in an emergency.

Of course Robby hardly ever misses a game so as long as his hand is OK he’ll play every inning there anyway…

I kind of see both sides. Sometimes a spark comes from out there.

With few other choices I’d go with the talent. Don’t know enough about Adams to make a valid statement.

Thanks for the warm welcome Bo. Based on that I guess I’ll go so the rest of you don’t have to be bogged down by someone raining on your parade. I’ll leave the boys to high five each other with all of their astute observations.

  123. LGY September 29th, 2012 at 11:59 am

I’d rather Girardi play his A lineup for 5 games and wrap up the division so Jeter and ARod have a few days off at the end of the season if they need rest.

Instead, Joe is still messing with these half days off and is risking having to play two games just to get into the ALDS.

No reason Jeter has the DH today.

Ease up. I like fiesty and spirited, your greatest attributes. It’s kind of the “Yeehah” spirit.

I gave you a drumroll and everything.

    .307 /.398 /.502 /.901 Romero vs LHB

    so see…..Jonesy had to play

  127. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 29th, 2012 at 12:02 pm

I mistook your drumroll for something else. I guess I’m a tad sensitive these days because I never know where the next shot is going to come from.

And thanks for clearing it up.
