WEATHER: Temperatures back into the 60s today. It finally feels nice here again.

UMPIRES: HP Rob Drake, 1B Sam Holbrook, 2B Jeff Nelson, 3B Gary Cederstrom, LF Mike Winter, RF Jeff Kellogg

IT’S BEEN A WHILE: Today, the Yankees will do something they haven’t done since October 28, 1981 (Game 6 of the World Series) — play a postseason game without either Mariano Rivera or Derek Jeter on the roster.

EXTRA! EXTRA!: The Yankees have played three extra-inning games so far in the 2012 postseason with all three coming in their past four games. That?matches their most extra-inning games in a single postseason all time (also 1996, 2004 and 2009). They?had played three extra-inning games over their previous 31 postseason contests entering 2012. The Yankees have lost their last two extra-inning games at home. Priot to those losses, they had won 10 straight extra-inning postseason games at home dating back to 1999. They have now played six extra-inning games in their last 10 home games. They have played 46 combined innings over their last four days.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Today is Joe Girardi’s 48th birthday.

UPDATE ON DEREK JETER: CT scan and MRI confirmed an ankle fracture. He will see Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist in Charlotte, in the coming days. Jeter is currently in a splint and on crutches. He is not at Yankee Stadium and will not travel to Detroit.

UPDATE, 4:34 p.m.: Kuroda dealing through two innings. He’s struck out five of the six batters he’s faced.

UPDATE, 4:44 p.m.: Nix gives it a ride but it’s caught at the wall to end the bottom of the second with Swisher left at first.

UPDATE, 5:13 p.m.: Another strikeout for Rodriguez, another scoreless inning for the Yankees.

UPDATE, 5:22 p.m.: Terrific play by Cano keeps Kuroda perfect through five innings.

UPDATE, 5:29 p.m.: Another 1-2-3 inning for the Yankees. Really need Kuroda to keep this going. Can he?

UPDATE, 5:37 p.m.: Kuroda finally allows a hit, but he leaves the runner stranded to get through the sixth with the game still scoreless. He’s been oustanding. Just oustanding.

UPDATE, 6:24 p.m.: Nix goes down swinging to leave Granderson at second. It’s a 1-0 Tigers leave heading into the eighth and Kuroda is going back to the mound.
