Broken ankle for Jeter

Derek Jeter has a broken ankle. The Yankees say it is a three-month recovery period. The rest of his career, however, is not at risk.

The break is at a different place than the bone bruise that has bothered him for weeks.

    Sad, sad news…

  2. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:16 am

Chad, isn’t the rule that you can’t add to the roster even if a player is injured?

  3. Benny Blanco October 14th, 2012 at 1:16 am

Devastating blow to the Yankees. Just awful news.

  4. JobaTipsHisCap October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

Hate to say this now, but they won’t advance to WS no matter jeter plays or not.
    No chance at all.

  5. luigi21plus October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

Wow its swisher’s fault!! He should of have caught that ball lets hope for a quick recovery.. we gotta win 4 for jeter..

  6. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

Never mind. Joe just said they were activating Nunez. Good for our offense anyway.

  7. Locke October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

Hoping the best rehab for Jeter.

  8. Captain Clutch October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

Swisher can’t hit when it counts and everyone knows that. But that ball HAS to be caught. He is an awful outfielder and cost them the game. That stupid smile is getting old and he can’t control his emotions in these games. Girardi better sit him tomorrow.

  9. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

If swisher had made the play that 99% of RF make Jeter probably dont get injuried and we be still playing now

  10. kd October 14th, 2012 at 1:17 am

    they’ll add nunez. ouch

  11. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:18 am

Get better soon Derek. Thank goodness it’s not career threatening. Both Jeter and Rivera suffer bad injuries in the same season. Those two are forever linked I guess.

  12. rickc October 14th, 2012 at 1:18 am

I blame every single other Yankee on that roster for Jeter’s injury for not getting 1 run across in innings 1-8. So many lost chances.

  13. Locke October 14th, 2012 at 1:19 am

If the post season is as much of a crap shoot that everybody says it is then the Yankees still have a change. I can take the trash talk from my Tigers friends but stop ragging on the Yankees so hard guys.

  14. deleonj October 14th, 2012 at 1:19 am

moving on. a player goes down, others step up. it happened when mo, cc, alex, and teix went down. plain and simple. they need to step up now.

  15. JobaTipsHisCap October 14th, 2012 at 1:19 am

Nfl time tomorrow, definitely no baseball.

  16. LGY October 14th, 2012 at 1:19 am

    You are benching Arod???

Anyway, have to have Nunez, otherwise zero backup for SS/2B. Unless you think Arod can still play SS

    .——-

His final at bat tonight was the last straw. That was just pathetic.

I know going without a backup IF is super risky but the Yankees need to do something bold IMO

  17. DONNYBROOK October 14th, 2012 at 1:20 am

Swish shoulda caught that ball that almost landed on his foot, AND the line drive in the 12th inning. He butchered both balls that led to runs.

  18. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:20 am

But Darling said that he’s alright!

  19. Uncle Ellsworth October 14th, 2012 at 1:20 am

  20. EliasInNH October 14th, 2012 at 1:21 am

jeeze. this is tough. I need to work later, 9-6, i’ll see you all on the board for the late stages of the game. Hopefully they can find some way to win. Anything is possible. It is certainly an uphill climb, and to think otherwise is foolish. But anything’s possible. Don’t forget that.

  21. I Like Inge October 14th, 2012 at 1:21 am

F@#$$# Swisher screwed up the whole inning by not catching that ball. Counting the days until he’s off this team. Jeter’s injury is on him

  22. theREALkevin October 14th, 2012 at 1:21 am

OK. This is what’s going to happen. A-Rod will turn back the clock, morph into 2009 playoffs A-Rod and mash the Yankees into the World Series. Book it. (Jeter will transfer Alex his magical powers now that he’s injured)

  23. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:21 am

“If the post season is as much of a crap shoot that everybody says it is then the Yankees still have a chance. I can take the trash talk from my Tigers friends but stop ragging on the Yankees so hard guys.”

I’m with you. I’m not giving up on this postseason. It will be interesting to see how things change with Derek out. Everyone will circle the wagons. Maybe they wake up from their slumber state and they’re shocked into awareness!

  24. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:21 am

Maybe this brings the team together…. reaching for straws and positives right now, but maybe win it for Jeet becomes the rally cry.

  25. Tar October 14th, 2012 at 1:22 am

Its actually better that he broke his ankle as opposed to tearing tendons and ligaments. I speak from experience.

  26. Jeremy October 14th, 2012 at 1:22 am

I think we need to stop worrying about the ALCS because it’s clear that this team will be swept out. I think people need to start focusing on the next couple of years because once Jeter, Rivera, and Andy leave this organization is going to fall apart. Currently Cashman has no game plan except stay the course. A mediocre farm system, aging players, incompetent players, a dumb GM, stupid owners. People thought the CBS days were bad just wait this will be worse.

  27. deleonj October 14th, 2012 at 1:22 am

arod’s struggles will get much bigger if he doesnt start producing right now.

  28. RadioKev October 14th, 2012 at 1:22 am

If Cano actually starts hitting, he could cover up Jeter’s absence. Strong play from Nunez would help.

Or A-Rod rising up from the ashes. That would be a story.

Winning the World Series isn’t easy. It looks really bad right now, but these guys just have to play to their ability. Losing Jeter is no excuse.

  29. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:23 am

“OK. This is what’s going to happen. A-Rod will turn back the clock, morph into 2009 playoffs A-Rod and mash the Yankees into the World Series. Book it. (Jeter will transfer Alex his magical powers now that he’s injured)”

Kev, I’ll accept any scenario other than “the Yankees are done.” 1 game out of 7 has been played. I refuse to give up.

  30. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 1:23 am

    Scratch my last lineup

    Gardner CF
    Ichiro LF
    A-Rod 3rd
    Cano 2nd
    Tex 1st
    Ibanez LH
    Chavez DH
    Martin C
    Nix SS

  32. Warning Track Power October 14th, 2012 at 1:23 am

i’m not surprised Jeter fractured his ankle. i called it at home after seeing the replay.
the way his ankle moved around as he tumbled to the dirt. reminded me of a football player or running back that suffers the same injury.
was shocked the TBS announcers did not pick up on the broken ankle as the replays were shown.

  33. LGY October 14th, 2012 at 1:24 am

Fortunately I can’t watch tomorrow. I need a mental health break from this team

  34. Yogi Mantle October 14th, 2012 at 1:24 am

I just don’t think I can bother watching another of these games. The Yankee offense is a joke and with Jeter gone there goes about half of the offense they did have.

  35. RadioKev October 14th, 2012 at 1:24 am

Pettitte, sole “Core Four” player remaining this season.

  36. Patrick October 14th, 2012 at 1:24 am

That last inning feels like a kick in the gut. Ibanez and Ichiro with clutch homeruns then that 12th inning comes around … Lose the game, lose Jeter. I feel sick

  37. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:25 am

“Maybe this brings the team together…. reaching for straws and positives right now, but maybe win it for Jeet becomes the rally cry.”

Tyler, several seasons ago the Sux had several of their best players go down and everyone thought it was the end. Well they rallied and had one of their best seasons ever. I don’t think it’s reaching for straws. I think it’s human nature and it happens.

  38. Warning Track Power October 14th, 2012 at 1:25 am

odds are that ankle was already fractured or cracked before this game started
    tonight.
then again, that’s guess a conjecture on my part.
girardi made it known that Jeter’s ankle was “beat up” for a long time and without the luxury of having a day off, the wear and tear on that ankle was going to catch up to Jeter sooner
    or later.

  39. DONNYBROOK October 14th, 2012 at 1:25 am

I’m NOT shocked at anything missed by the TBS Crew. Horrid the entire game.

  40. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:25 am

    Ichiro LF
    Gardner RF
    Tex 1B
    Ibanez DH
    Cano 2B

    Nix/Nunez SS

The GM is a moron and the owners don’t care.

  42. ConcernedCitizen October 14th, 2012 at 1:26 am

“Pettitte, sole “Core Four” player remaining this season.”

And, let’s be honest, we probably won’t see him again in 2012. Hopefully he’ll agree to a one year deal.

  43. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 1:26 am

Cano just isnt someone that can carry a team by himself, he is not patient so the pitcher can just throw him balls and he gets himself out by pulling it softly to 2nd

  44. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:26 am

Patrick, I hear you but don’t give up. 6 more games to win 4.

  45. igotid88 October 14th, 2012 at 1:26 am

And don’t tell me you can’t bat -Rod 3rd. It doesn’t mater where you put him.

Also add the multiple he gave to the Tigers playing an awful RF. How does this guy gets starts? Gardner can hold a bat, throw a ball, run, and catch. That’s enough to bench Swisher.

  48. MoRings42 October 14th, 2012 at 1:27 am

This freaking sucks but they’re not out of it. They need 8 more wins.. just 8 more wins. They can do it if certain people step the hell up. I don’t want to hear excuses. The pitching is outstanding right now but someone other than Ichiro and Ibanez needs to freaking hit.

  49. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:27 am

    trisha-

I just don’t think their problem is not being galvanized or passionate. It seems like it’s a pure lack of ability/bat speed or just plain stupidity (i.e. Swisher). I never doubted the heart of this team but I just don’t know if they are good enough.

  50. user13 October 14th, 2012 at 1:27 am

    Gardner CF

Tyler – we’re going to find out!

  53. Tar October 14th, 2012 at 1:28 am

    Tyler

Thats kind of what Im thinking too. Thats 5 LH bats in a row that he he has to face.

I originally thought Nix should start, but as anemic as the offense is, maybe you start Nunez. Nix career wise is awful vs Rh pitchers.

  54. the vaunted chris October 14th, 2012 at 1:28 am

Can this team honestly play any worse without Jeter in the lineup as they did with him? It’s baseball, watch them start mashing now.

  55. DavidL October 14th, 2012 at 1:29 am

“was shocked the TBS announcers did not pick up on the broken ankle as the replays were shown.”

They said something along the lines of not wanting to play doctor and speculate, I’ll give them that.

  56. ZMANINSJ October 14th, 2012 at 1:29 am

They need to just pay off Rodriguez and make him go away. Swisher and Granderson can look elsewhere too.

  57. Patrick October 14th, 2012 at 1:29 am

Patrick, I hear you but don’t give up. 6 more games to win 4.

True but our only consistent hitter just went down for the rest of the postseason. Also the odds were in the Yankees favor being tied in extra innings and being the home team. But they couldn’t finish the game off. Just a crushing defeat, pretty much the worst result I can imagine.

  58. Uncle Ellsworth October 14th, 2012 at 1:29 am

Team? Team? What team? If they score another run ill be surprised. maybe 5 years after the steins sell they may have a team. its over over. just bitter it may pass. but the swisher show is over

  59. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:30 am

    Tar-

I was thinking about putting Gardner leadoff but I think Ichiro can do much more with the bat. I think it’s time to move Cano down and I’ve loved Cano since he was a rookie. Tex and Ibanez are now the best bats on this team and need the most at bats.

  60. Warning Track Power October 14th, 2012 at 1:30 am

if this team needs a kick in the ass, then maybe seeing the captain go down with a season ending injury is the motivation this team needs.
    anything is possible.
i’m not sure why so many of these players are struggling at the plate and refusing to do the little things with the bat in order to win a game.
time after time the hitter’s are swinging for the fences and looking foolish at the same time.
the game tonight could have been won in the 1st inning and the other innings where the bases were loaded or there was 2nd and 3rd with zero outs.
phelps on the mound is a joke. the kid is not ready for this stage.
he is overwhelmed and unable to get the job done. two critical losses for phelps is not what this team needs.

  61. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 1:30 am

Given Giardi matchups, we would probably see swisher in the lineup batting 6th….

  62. MoRings42 October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

Swisher is garbage. He wants Jayson Werth money.. ok, try hitting .100 points higher in the postseason and maybe you’ll get that.

If he doesn’t hit this PS, I hope he’s gone.

  63. Jeremy October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

    Trisha
You have the right to be delusional but facts are facts. You have hitters in the lineup who can’t hit for average, can’t hit with RISP, can’t even hit a deep fly with a man on third, can’t even hit a pitch down the middle of the plate. This team is going downhill fast and the sooner people come to realize that if changes are not made this team will be in the cellar in a few years.

  64. JT October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

You have to extend Robertson the 12th with those three hitters coming up. If you want to take your chances with Phelps with the bottom of the lineup the next inning–fine. I was shocked to see Phelps out there with those hitters due up. Just managerial malpractice.

  65. DavidL October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

Gardner would play LF and Ichiro RF if Granderson is in CF.
Otherwise Gardner would play CF and Ichiro LF.

  66. 98NYY October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

Let’s win this for the Captain.

  67. Nick in SF October 14th, 2012 at 1:31 am

Gardner is suddenly batting near the top of our new lineup?

Ichiro, yes, Gardner (if he starts at all) can be down at the bottom with Nunez.

I don’t think Girardi is going to sit Swisher even though he now seems to be taking his approach at the plate to the outfield.

  68. DONNYBROOK October 14th, 2012 at 1:32 am

While Jeet lay face down, motionless, in the infield dirt, Ron Darling said, “He is NOT hurt”. This is what you get when using a Met color commentator.

  69. theREALkevin October 14th, 2012 at 1:32 am

    Trisha,

It’s never over until the other team wins that 4th game. That is for sure. But, it is going to be quite a challenge now with Derek. Just a 6-4 loss, even in that fashion could definitely be overcome. But without Derek, their leader, to say it is going to be tough is an understatement. You’re right though- they need to keep fighting because anything could happen. Hell, not that I would WANT this to happen, but Miguel Cabrera could break his leg tomorrow. Cano could heat up. Alex could find it. It’s sports, it’s unpredictable, and you can never quit. Just like life.

Good night everyone, here’s to hoping they can somehow even it up tomorrow.

  70. Tar October 14th, 2012 at 1:32 am

I haven’t been this pissed off at this team, or this kind of situation in a long, long time. I hope the players feel the same way and come out and kick the Tigers a@@.

  71. Bronx Jeers October 14th, 2012 at 1:32 am

i read earlier that people were dissing Swisher for his misplay that lead to the winning run.
something about he should not have been out there and someone else should have been
playing RF at that point in the game.
    really?
    who are these “fans” kidding”??
if not swisher, who else could have been playing RF at that point in the game?
    grandy was pinch run for.
    ibanez is already the DH

some people here are morons and you know what, they don’t get any smarter
    with each game played

  73. the vaunted chris October 14th, 2012 at 1:33 am

I think the silver lining is that the Tigers aren’t that good, and they are only missing Jeter for a maximum 13 games, which is definitely a small enough sample for this injury to be irrelevant. That said, if they don’t start hitting, it wouldn’t have mattered either way. Tomorrow is the important game in this series.

  74. 98NYY October 14th, 2012 at 1:33 am

Three of the Core Four break a leg in same year got tone a record.

  75. user13 October 14th, 2012 at 1:33 am

    Fastest out field ever lol?

  77. Nick in SF October 14th, 2012 at 1:34 am

Nunez was on fire when Jeter was on the DL last July, before he came back and got #3000.

That’s what we need now: Nunez to inject a shot of energy into this lineup.

  78. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 1:34 am

  80. Tyler October 14th, 2012 at 1:35 am

    Nick-

I agree that it’s pretty ridiculous that Gardner is near the top of the order but I just don’t want to see Swisher out there tomorrow. I think he earned his benching with all around ineptitude tonight. But I bet Girardi bats him in the 2 hole behind Ichiro and prays that it wakes him up.

  81. Jeremy October 14th, 2012 at 1:35 am

You would think after several postseasons where the offense showed incompetence that some on this board would admit that changes need to be made. Admit that Cashman has been a failure and that he has no vision.

  82. ZMANINSJ October 14th, 2012 at 1:36 am

I’m shocked so many people don’t wake up to the fact that the offense is worse than bad. You don’t just turn on such failures. The party is over.

  83. trisha - true pinstriped blue October 14th, 2012 at 1:36 am

Jeremy thanks for your kind words. I am hardly delusional, and what’s more, I’m not going to fight with you. I told you respectfully that not everyone agrees with you. I’ll leave it at that. If you’re angry, you’ll have to find someone else to take it out on.

    **************

Well I’m going to say good night and finish watching the postgame.

  88. DONNYBROOK October 14th, 2012 at 1:36 am

Swisher absolutely Butchered 2 balls in RF tonight that led to runs. Players are gonna have slumps, but they gotta play Defense always. 2012 should be Swish’s Last season in pinstripes.

  89. Jeremy October 14th, 2012 at 1:37 am

    Warning track power

I don’t think the Swisher catch was the problem. The problem was the inability of this pathetic offense to score the winning run over a 12 inning period when they had a village of men on base.

  90. Hassey October 14th, 2012 at 1:37 am

There is no cosmic attitude change, rallying cry or even hypnosis that will help us score runs…this is a physical and skill problem that can only be fixed with roster turnover

Cash does not swing a bat, wear a glove or pitch the ball.
The players are failing and doing it well.
    ———————————————————

There were tons of signs that this team needed help whether it was last offseason or the trade deadline. I know he’s got budget constraints to deal with now but Ichiro was not enough to bolster this team. He needed to add a reliever or another bat and came up empty. The players are the main culprit but Cashman has built an aging team in decline at this point.

gardner is rusty. don’t you guys understand? the kid is rusty and it’s not fair to insert him into the starting line-up after being away for so long and expect him to be productive.
now that jeter is out, that might create an opportunity for Gardner to get more at bats, but let’s be realistic here when it comes to expectations.
    Nunez will be activated.
    ARod will get more starts

I think somebody in here hit it on the head when they talked about Swisher being unable to control his emotions (I forget who said it…). You can just see in his face that he wants to be a hero so bad. It was a tough play but major league RF’s make that play. He almost wanted to make it look like he was really going all out and butchered it. Which is weird because he didn’t dive at all for the ball he should have went all out for….

Tomorrows lineup should be very interesting. Hopefully no swisher and maybe no Arod. It’s hard to see a worse approach than these guys have. It’s terrible watching these guys continue to swing for home runs at bat after at bat.

  107. DavidL October 14th, 2012 at 1:41 am

I want to see what Gardner can do. He was the hottest hitter besides Posada against this team last ALDS, got to Verlander, started 2012 hot, and he can surely create havoc against Detroit’s subpar catchers.

  108. deleonj October 14th, 2012 at 1:42 am

Nobody is arguing that Gardner isn’t rusty. But literally anything he does is better than Swisher at this point in my opinion. He’s got speed… slap it around and maybe run into a few hits. I literally don’t care if Gardner goes 0-10. As long as it’s not Swish who does it….

I do want to say that Jeter’s injury is a mayor blow to our chances of advancing any further. I hope that his ankle heals right and fast. The season long RISP troubles continue, IMO as a result of combination of factors: age, lack of bat speed and inability to shorten the swing when is needed. That’s all I am going to say about it.

It’s horrible, beyond horrible to see that happen to a guy that gave and gives so much. You knew immediately it was something terrible.

Somehow appropriate that the horror that began with Mo’s freak injury concludes with Jeter’s brutal break.

It has been a season that exceeded my expectations for most of the year.

With that said, Nick Swisher is the biggest bleeping fraud ever. What a choker.

This lineup can’t hit anyone who doesn’t suck as much as Valverde, anyway. A Rod is the most hate-able Yankee in my lifetime and Granderson is pure garbage. And Robbie Cano’s massive failure this postseason is gruesome to behold.

Cano, I don’t know what to say. I’m never going to hate that guy, no matter how he confounds.

But the other three, I’d like to never see taking another postseason at bat for this team.

    Guys,

It’s been a very frustrating night. First, I couldn’t watch the game. Second, we lost. Third, we lost Jeter for the season, hopefully just for the season, ankle injuries are very tricky to predict and he is not 20 anymore. Let’s keep it on baseball. I am tired and extremely mad for several reasons, so I bid you all a very good night.

I’m booing myself for still planning my afternoon around tomorrows game
    ——————————————————

I’m watching my Rams game at noon and when that’s over I’ll probably get sucked into the Yanks game although I probably could do much more productive things. As frustrating as they are, I gotta keep supporting them. Probably dumb by me.

  189. jacksquat October 14th, 2012 at 2:09 am

Stop blaming Phelps. He had to navigate Cabrera+Fielder and probably no runs score if Swisher catches that ball like he should have.

  190. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 2:09 am

Btw just to show the different between two guys. Holmes got injuried on his foot too and he toss the ball away to the other team, while jeter breaks his ankles and still have the awareness of trying to throw it to cano so the runner at 3rd dont score. True pro thats why hes the captain

  191. Bronx Jeers October 14th, 2012 at 2:10 am

@TheTweetOfGod: If Ibanez doesn’t hit that home run, Jeter never fractures his ankle. I work in mysterious ways. Mysterious, dickish ways.

  192. user13 October 14th, 2012 at 2:11 am

Lol MLB Network was saying Swisher should bat second *facepalm*

  193. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 2:11 am

If Swisher makes that play runner on second 2 outs i say he gets out of it

  194. DONNYBROOK October 14th, 2012 at 2:11 am

Agree. Swish catches that line drive, and Phelps escapes the 12th, as does Jeet.

  195. Nilsson October 14th, 2012 at 2:11 am

Last time I saw Jeter in that much pain was when a Toronto catcher rammed his catching gear into this shoulder at 3B. Both times my body hurt watching the replay of the injuries. At least from the immediate reports it doesn’t sound like one of those really bad ones, like the Kendrys Morales injury. Get well quick DJ.

Swisher has to catch that ball. Just like Desmond had to make that play for the Nats. Luckily it’s the beginning of a series for Yanks and not the final deciding game. It’s funny how everyone who was watching the game with me was high on emotion after Raul’s HR and then to see that top 12 inning unfold … it was cruel.

  196. fantasygame101 October 14th, 2012 at 2:12 am

girardi was lucky in pinch hitting ibanez for arod and he thinks it is the right thing to do always. Chavez has done nothing in the playoff and then he did not pinch hit chavez against a lefty? with jeter out, gardner should play to improve the defense and nix for that matter. If they can not score runs then they might as well prevent runs. And cano better not let anything pass him if he is hitting the way he is.

  197. user13 October 14th, 2012 at 2:13 am

IMO again You have to play Arod now, he becomes such a big player now (Tell him your our guy now and let him play). We have nothing to lose at this point.

  203. Boss Tony N October 14th, 2012 at 2:19 am

I give u my word, nick swisher, one day im going to hunt u down Im going to make u pay the ultimate price for your crimes, im going to make u wish u were dead. There wont be any more smiling when im finished with you. I hate u more than any bostonian, and soon youre going to know that hatred.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was 2nd tomorrow. I won’t like it but I definitely could see it happening.

  205. fantasygame101 October 14th, 2012 at 2:21 am

if this postseason did not expose girardi’s weakness then cashman is either blind or missing something in his head.

  206. fantasygame101 October 14th, 2012 at 2:26 am

bat arod 2nd. he walks and only hits single. I would rather have arod in the 2 hole than swisher who should be benched. Swisher is a better pinch hitting option, not bec. he can hit but he is a switch hitter who can ran into one.

  207. Duh Innings II October 14th, 2012 at 2:27 am

Let’s all hope for a Brian Doyle in the 1978 World Series-like performance or some semblance of it from Jayson Nix this series and the next if the Yanks get to the next series – they’ll need it.

This was a poorly managed game by Girardi in extra innings.

Why on EARTH wasn’t Ichiro stealing second or Girardi employing the hit and run with Ichiro when Ichiro led off the inning with a hit in the bottom of the eleventh?

Cano has NO concept of the situation as he swung at a ball he should’ve taken so Ichiro could advance to second (scoring position) on the steal. It’s bad enough he wasn’t running hard enough on that play where he lined the ball off Fister. I say trade him and Granderson for as much as you can get this offseason. Cano turns 31 next November, Granderson 34 in March 2014 – too old to give long-term contracts to.

Swisher has to go this offseason, too. Take away 10 HR off his yearly total and he’s worthless. ‘Dude’s Jason Giambi in the outfield, nothing more, nothing less. All HR, SO, and BB, no BA or D.

  208. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 2:28 am

since spring training Swisher said he wants to make this year memorable and wants to redeem his past post season. what a sack of %@#%

  209. BobbyJones October 14th, 2012 at 2:29 am

Give Arod one more chance,he has earned it, start him tomorrow

  210. Jeremy October 14th, 2012 at 2:33 am

Both Cashman and Girardi are weak. But Cashman is the main culprit and I can’t believe the clown is still GM.

  211. fantasygame101 October 14th, 2012 at 2:33 am

cashman should tell girardi that he will be fired if he pinch hit for arod again. He got lucky once.

  212. deleonj October 14th, 2012 at 2:37 am

Trisha, i really don’t understand how you can still post so regularly in here with some many 2faces that only show up when the good times are rolling like the ones in the comments that i have copied below.
I’m grateful that you do, though. If it weren’t for people like you i’m sure many other fans would leave this forum and wouldn’t come back because they would be scared to find so many clever fans who could manage, hit, pitch, own a baseball team and yet choose to hide behind their computer screens instead while being completely pompous a-holes.

Baseball is a sport. Girardi, for all his flaws (and believe me, I disagree with some of his moves) is a good man and a good manager. Most of you have never seen what a curveball looks like when it is thrown at you, let alone know how to hit and yet believe that you would be perfect for the job.
As for the players, what do you expect? It’s a game of ebbs and flows. Past performance indicates that they will get better. That leads fans like Trisha and me to believe that they will get better. And even if they don’t, at least we don’t quit on the team after bad losses.

Many of the fans in here are only “fans” because they have the “we have 27 & counting” phrase that go along with being a yankee fan.
The player do care. They care so much that they struggle on the field because they are pressing so hard. Let’s just hope they perform better and stop complaining so much.
btw, i know what some will say here: ‘it’s our opinion, if you dont like it, leave’. To which i would tell you: great freaking attitude, that will certainly help our case. -or somthing like that.

Let’s go Yanks. time to play better tomorrow. I mean, today.

I really don’t understand why Trisha makes up a thousand excuse for bums in the Yankees lineup but she will place full blame on a rookie pitcher and Kuroda if they make even the smallest mistake. Never mention Swisher and Granderson the most incompetent hitters in baseball when it comes to situational hitting and approach. Or old steroid man A-rod, or batting a .180-.200 Martin. Or the great wonder Cano.

After the Yankees win it all, it will go down as the team that had to navigate through the most obstacles to ever still be crowned Champions. And it will be awesome.

This wild ride isn’t over yet. Tomorrow we got to go out and win a ballgame. That’s it.

No matter what and by doing whatever it takes, tomorrow we HAVE to win a ballgame.

    Nuff said. In out.

First of all many here are fans and love the Yankees not just because they won 27 championships. Many are not delusional apologists who are okay with failure from the same cast of characters in the lineup every single year. Maybe you should stop making assumptions and painting people with a broad brush.

  216. ZachA October 14th, 2012 at 2:50 am

Ok, I know it won’t happen (and I wouldn’t do it if I was Yankee manager), but wouldn’t it be hilarious if Girardi benched all of the nonfantastic four tomorrow?

    RF Ichiro
    SS Nunez
    1B Teixeira
    LF Ibanez
    DH Martin
    3B Chavez
    2B Nix
    C Stewart
    CF Gardner

It would be crazy reactionary, but that imaginary lineup probably wouldn’t do any worse than the one we ran out there tonight. Plus, ESPN would lose it’s sh*t. (And we’d prolly get a new manager in ’13)

  217. Boss Tony N October 14th, 2012 at 2:52 am

I hate nick swisher. Truly hate. I wish nothing but the worst upon him

  218. deleonj October 14th, 2012 at 2:56 am

Jeremy, i think the 27 championships is a big part of why some in here are ‘fans’.
Also, the same cast puts up big numbers every year to get to the playoffs, which are very hard to win btw. The delusional apologists that you refer to are either a) being optimistic about the chances of the team or b) expecting the team to perform like they did during the regular season.

“Maybe you should stop making assumptions and painting people with a broad brush”

btw, you just did this as well.

Crap- this sucks, I remember the Leafs losing Gilmour over similiar sh#t.

If one of the Yankees in the bottom of the sixth inning (Granderson) with 2nd and 3rd nobody out, could have gotten a fly ball and/or a base hit, the game would not have reached the 12th inning and Jeter would not have got hurt.

    Delonj:

you should not paint every one on this message board as a bandwagon fan. Some of us here have been LIFE LONG yankee fans and have been through the worse times imaginable that occurred in the 1980′s and early 1990′s with the Yankees. Those years they were awful and that was when George Steinbrenner was still the owner of the Yankees.

Steinbrenner is probably rolling over in his grave right now with what is going on with the current Yankee team.

So, just keep your comments to yourself unless you have proof otherwise. thank you.
