BS, I am sure that has absolutely ntohing to do with it. He is sitting because they are saving him from embarassing himself. Everyone knows he can’t catch up to Verlander’s fastball right now. The only issue I have is Chavez for AROD. He has hit as bat as Alex and Alex has some success of Verlander this year. I feel they ultimately need a productive AROD to win, and they need to see if it is there. Five years as a platoon against lefties?

I’m pretty surprised A-Rod isn’t in there. I get that he’s looked bad, but he really has (had) a chance to pick this team up and be a leader. I guess Chavez is in there because he had a REALLY good series in Detroit earlier this year if I recall.

As bad as Arod has looked recently he might be the better option over Chavez. Chavez hasn’t looked good at all recently and who knows if he can catch up to that heat. I really don’t like the Nunez move. Nix has been hitting recently and considering how dead the bats have been they can’t afford a Nunez error.

I really don’t get Gardner batting leadoff. He wasn’t able to start in other games because Girardi said that he hasn’t had any at bats. So why do you want him to get the most at bats. He should be batting 9th.

Swisher needs to sit. He’s not making any contact.
Gardner can possibly get a base hit by just making contact and beating
the throw to 1st base. Matter of fact, look for Gardner to attempt a bunt at least once
tonight.
Arod will have lots of time to watch Kate in Verlander’s box.

Chavez over Alex is a bad idea. Alex did well against Verlander this year. And Nunez at short is not worth the risk. Ibanez in the field is better than Nunez in the field, so you cannot defend this by saying that Ibanez should not be in the field.
I probably would have seriously considered A-Rod at SS instead of Nunez. I bet the Front Office had something to say about that not happening. But I would take A-Rod at SS EVERY TIME over Nunez. Francesa is going off about it right now…and I agree.
Girardi put a line=up together versus probably the best AL pitcher in order
to manufacture runs, get guys on base with singles/speed and not wait
on the 2 or 3 run HR.

Surprised about Gardner leading off, though. I kind of pictured him hitting 9th in his “hey, it’s October 16th and we’re facing Verlander in Game Three of the ALCS, welcome back to the lineup!” game.
I love the speed of our outfield now, but we could also use Manute Bol as Outfield Rover in case someone has to leap high and bring one back into the yard.
I would play Alex over Chavez.
Otherwise, I like the lineup.

Gardner should just bunt the ball to Cabrera every at bat. He has a really good chance to reach base with that awful fielder at 3rd base. It’s amazing that the Tigers terrible defense hasn’t cost them in this series. Gardner and Ichiro have to test Cabrera.

The only thing I do agree with Francesa on is that ARod should be in there to either succeed or fail. It should be on him. That’s why we pay him $30 million a year. He shouldn’t be allowed to hide on the bench in the biggest game of the year.
Of course we’re panicking and I’m glad to see the changes.
Cashman, Girardi and the organization are trying to run Arod out of town. No question they want him gone. This is basically saying we gave you all of that money you signed that contract under false terms now you can’t play like an all star….goodbye.

Why is swisher sitting and not Grandy? Because they can’t bench everyone.
Arod has struggled against righties all yr. he’s been atrocious vs them since he hurt his hand. And he’s struck out 75% of his ABs vs them in the playoffs. Some of you think he’s going to suddenly hit a 95+ FB?
Looking at this line up makes me think the objective is small ball. Gardner, Ichiro, Nunez are able to run and possibly bunt or steal bases.
I’m not sure why Chavez over Alex, as Chavez hasn’t been hitting either, but maybe his defense is a little better for getting to balls. It must be the RHP match up.
Alex as a pinch hitter doesn’t thrill me either.

Girardi makes up the lineup, how exactly is Alex hiding on the bench when he is put there by his manager? Or do you know that Alex requested to be benched?
I seriously doubt this is what ARod desires. This is Girardi crapping his pants over having to face the media asking him why would you bat Alex.
Give Nunez a chance instead of just writing him off.
His offensive production can’t be any worse than what we’ve gotten thus far from a bulk of the team.

Could also be that the organization had two lineups, waited to see which catcher Detroit was starting, and went with the base-stealing lineup.
They are going for offense early. They need to score off Verlander in the first 2-3 innings before he settles in. This gives them a chance.
If they somehow take the lead early, I would bet Girardi subs Nix for Nunez to shore up the defense.
Chavez already is a better defensive third baseman than ARod, who has limited mobility but catches everything he reaches.
I like this lineup. It is the best the team can do given the circumstances.

Girardi will field far tougher questions for benching ARod rather than playing him. It’s a brave move, again, but one that I believe is foolhardy.

A-Rod is a narc of the highest order. He isn’t going to give back any money or approve a trade unless it is to a glamor destination like LA or Miami. Both LA teams probably have no money left to absorb even half of his his deal and the Marlins are rebuilding.
A-Rod is stuck here, so for the Yanks to try and alienate him is digging their own grave.
Arod can pull a Reggie and pinch hit for Chavez if needed.

A-rod just hasn’t been the same since coming back from the wrist injury. We all know how bad he’s looked in the playoffs but take a closer look at his numbers in the regular season after returning from the DL

His second worst month was in April where he hit .244/.354/.415 .. even in his second worst month of the season the difference in SLG is stark. The wrist injury has pretty clearly sapped A-rod of his power. I still think he can be a decent player going forward but right now he is not productive at all.
It doesn’t matter that he’s 4 for 7 with 2 HR off Verlander this year, those games took place before he got hurt.

hello, I don’t post much (almost never) but i just thought I’d add to this topic. I see most people on here don’t like Nunez playing (whether it be for defensive or offensive purposes) but I remember last year when Jeter went down Nunez stepped it up big and was very productive. Maybe this might also be the case this time around.

Arod isn’t the scapegoat, he is the goat. The guy has never been worth 1/2 his salary/contract. Ibanez had more memorable Yankee moments in 2 games than Arod has in his Yankee career. He has never been the “straw that stirs the drink”. And I thought it was impossible for anyone to top the Dave Winfield postseason fiasco.

Love the added speed, but how badly did you overestimate your talent that you are now forced to bench both Alex and Swish? And you are talking again about making adjustments that you didn’t feel were necessary in the regular season. Really? That is all I will say. Just win, baby.

Let’s see, Cano isn’t hitting, Granderson isn’t hitting, Swisher isn’t hitting, Chavez isn’t hitting, Martin isn’t hitting. So while Alex is doing poorly, benching him isn’t going to answer the issue of the Yankee TEAM not hitting.
I get it, he has not been hitting since coming back, maybe it’s due to his weeks off, but prior to his having his hand broken (which last I checked wasn’t something that was his body breaking down) he was hitting the ball well, even if the power wasn’t impressive.
I like Swisher being benched, but if the Yankees benched everyone who is doing as poorly at the plate as Alex, they would have to send out the AAA team as all of them are doing poorly at the plate.
This team had gone through this earlier this season. Couldn’t hit a lick, from around the time they got swept by the A’s.
It isn’t a brave move by Girardi. It is scapegoating Alex to make it seem like he is doing a tough move. Why not bench Granderson? He hasn’t been benched and has looked even worse than ARod at the plate.
Have you seen that Det OF, it’s huge, so Gardner Grandy Ichiro is your best OF.
