Cashman says Sabathia will not pitch Game 7

More to come soon, but general manager Brian Cashman left no wiggle room tonight when asked if the Yankees would let CC Sabathia pitch on two days rest in Game 7 if the ALCS went that far.
“No,” Cashman said, flatly.
Tha means tonight’s rain wiped out the Yankees chances of starting their ace twice in this series.
Worrying about game 7 is just a bit ….premature no?
The dumb question
Hopefully if they do make it 7 then Hughes can pitch or at least start the game …..but there are 3 games between now and then

in case you didn’t notice, chavez’s ops was 70 points higher than alex’s this year.

Arod: .256/.326/.391 (356 PA)
Chavez: .298/.365/.531 (274 PA)
He blew him away and it’s not a small sample size. It got even worse late in the year.
This place has gone looney tunes with all this Arod conspiracy crap.
On top of that, Scherzer has a huge split differential. You have to go with with lhh even more because of that.

No you proved my point right there. Chavez’s OPS was higher than Alex’s this year because he got extremely favorable platooning in a half seasons worth of PA total. He had 274 PA vs RHP, favorable platooning, and only had 313 PA total on the year.
I was only responding to your point as to the reason Chavez’s overall OPS was higher than A-rod’s this year. He scarcely played and when he did it was in his favor almost 90% of the time.
You know what? Verlander beat us by one stinking run. So I’m not worried about him shutting us down if CC isn’t the challenger. And you know that Game 7 would be all hands on deck.
That said, and I say this with total objectivity and as factually as the day is long – it really feels like we’ve been totally snakebitten this postseason!
But I still retain great hope. Life is unpredictable and unexpected things do happen. I rewrite endings any time we’re given a script change. And nothing says my ending can’t and won’t happen. The final chapter to this would be “The Yankees were basically on death watch with nobody giving them much of a chance to survive, except for their manager and the team that plays for him. (insert player quotes). But after what seemed to be yet another strike thrown at them, this time in the form of a rainout that erased any chance that their ace CC Sabathia would appear in two games, a funny thing happened. Sabathia won Game 4, the Yankees started hitting, and they never looked back. “If anyone had told me that Phelpsie would be our Game 7 winner, I would have told you that they were dreaming. Phelpsie wasn’t even a thought for the rotation, and he’s a great little pitcher and we liked him just where he was, pitching in relieft.” But all of that came to an end when in yet another blow to the Yankees, Phil Hughes left Game 3 injured and MLB refused to let the scheduled Game 4 be played because of threat of rain. (MLB learned its lesson when the same two team were playing in last year’s DLS and after only two innings of play the game had to be called for good because of rain. They were not going to let the same thing happen this time around.)
And so you can fill in any blanks you want, but my ending comes out to the Yankees taking the whole thing.
I don’t really buy into the notion that there is something else out here about ARod. The numbers are pretty clearly in Chavez’s favor v RHP. And anybody who has watched ARod swing the bat over the past two weeks can see that he is robotic and not right, particularly against RHP’s that can reach the mid-90s.

Should have played the game, they could have had CC eat 6 innings. Then if the delay was long/game postponed gone to Soriano+Drob for the final innings
Joe Girardi is always between a rock and a hard place. So much boohooing throughout the season about him refusing to sit players who aren’t performing. So when he does it, so much boohooing that he’s sitting them.

Are the rules different in the postseason from what they are in the regular season with respect to what is considered a complete game (called because of rain?)
Despite the fact that CC won’t be available, I’m happy that they didn’t play. Give the Yankees an extra day to rest and regroup. Life happens.

i don’t believe there are any differences in scoring a PS game or a RS game.
there are proceedural things that might not be the same but a CG is a CG.
Ys Guy – then even more I’m happy that they called the game. Imagine if the Yankees hadn’t been winning by the 6th or were losing by a run. Imagine if they had the bases loaded and nobody out and the game was called but it was already considered a complete game.
Get a good night’s sleep and come out raring to go!
A post season game must be completed. There is no “rain shortened” post season games like there are in the regular season.
this crap they started doing the past decade or so where they don’t play when it’s not raining because they THINK it’s going to rain has to stop.

sorry i thought you asked if the rules for a pitcher to get credited with a complete game were different in the PS
If todays game had been called in the 6th, they would have had to finish the last 3 innings before they start the next game. Which is tomorrow , so that would suck for the pen.
Maybe we can win the next 3 games and then have another rain delay.

Thanks Tar and Ys Guy. Then same difference. It would have added a day to the schedule and we would have been at the mercy of the next in line to shut it out (I assume that’s how it would work.)

Ys Guy! They did it because exactly what they anticipated would happen, happened! They can’t sit and play with a flow chart, trying to see whether CC would get to pitch twice. They started playing Game 1 last postseason when it wasn’t raining, and rain was expected and we got screwed, glued, and tatooed because of it.
There is no way they should have started the game. Period. If it ends up biting us it does. But for once they’re trying to be fair. Look at the brouhaha it caused last season when they DIDN’T call it.
Guess what, chance of heavy rain more likely tomorrow and Friday ….
And part of my ending STILL deals with karma for the Kenny Rogers pine tar caper. So it will be even sweeter when this whole thing turns around. Talk about unlikely endings! And I’ll even let the lothario Arod be the hero in Game 7. I’m feeling generous tonight.

What could be better for the New York Yankees than rest, rest, rest! And that could even increase the chances of seeing CC in a Game 7. But I hate having to continually rewrite the ending!

whatever it is it is. i didnt care about the extra off day for the tigers, i dont care about the rainouts. i just feel sorry for the cost to the working folks who went to tonight’s non-game.
