Players Choice Awards announced tonight

Last year, the Yankees had one of the Players Choice Award winners when Curtis Granderson was named the American League’s Outstanding Player.

This year, the Yankees don’t have a single nominee.

The 2012 Players Choice Awards will be announced on MLB Network tonight from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET. The Players Choice Awards have been presented every year since 1992. Most awards are fairly standard, with the only exception being the Marvin Miller Man of the Year award, given to the player who “inspires others to higher levels of achievement by his on-field performances and contributions to his community.”

These are this year’s Players Choice finalists.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Outstanding Player: Adrian Beltre (Rangers), Miguel Cabrera (Tigers), Mike Trout (Angels)
Outstanding Pitcher: David Price (Rays), Chris Sale (White Sox), Jered Weaver (Angels)
Outstanding Rookie: Yoenis Cespedes (Athletics), Yu Darvish (Texas), Mike Trout (Angels)
Comeback Player: Adam Dunn (White Sox), Kendrys Morales (Angels), Alex Rios (White Sox)

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Outstanding Player: Ryan Braun (Brewers), Andrew McCutchen (Pirates), Buster Posey (Giants)
Outstanding Pitcher: Johnny Cueto (Reds), R.A. Dickey (Mets), Gio Gonzalez (Nationals)
Outstanding Rookie: Todd Frazier (Reds), Bryce Harper (Nationals), Wade Miley (Diamondbacks)
Comeback Player: Adam LaRoche (Nationals), Ryan Ludwick (Reds), Buster Posey (Giants)

EITHER LEAGUE

    Josh Norris ?@jnorris427
They projected Williams at: 60 batting, 60 power, 70 speed, 70 defense, 50 arm. #Yankees

  3. Jerkface November 5th, 2012 at 8:43 pm

The funny thing about the Yankees picking up Whiteside is that he must have cleared every single team in baseball before getting to the Yankees…

  4. blake November 5th, 2012 at 8:51 pm

If Williams realizes those tools then be will be an all star

60/40 Yankees RT @The_Resonator what are your odds on kuroda nyy vs njp?

@mattkardos @TarYank6 Montgomery’s slider is ridiculously good. Still needs some more upper level exposure.

Aardsma, Joba, Logan, Robertson, Soria, Mariano in the 7th inning on. That’s darn good. Arguably the deepest pen in the majors.

@Baseballblahs Whiteside for Justin Upton? Probably nothing other than a depth move.

SoriaNO, SoriaYES: Soria would be a solid move, and thanks to Mariano he sounds okay to be a setup man. #Yankees

  9. The Return of Stoneburner November 5th, 2012 at 9:08 pm

Oscar Suarez, the agent for Joakim Soria, has received calls from eight contending teams expressing interest in his client, writes Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. Suarez has yet to hear from Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, but says that Soria would be more than willing to pitch in a setup role for his idol, Mariano Rivera:

“If the Yankees call, we will be all ears,” Soria’s agent, Oscar Suarez, said by phone Monday. “If there is a fit, Joakim would be elated to work with Mo. He would close everywhere except there.”

I dunno. If price weren’t an issue clearly Soriano is the stronger choice.

    ——–

Well obviously price is an issue and I think Soria will accept a set-up role more willingly then Soriano did in 2011. He just never seemed content in that role and I highly doubt that changes in 2013 after closing most of 2012.

If Rafael comes back for the 2013 campaign mark my words he will come up with some “injury” in May that shelves him till at least September. I don’t trust him at all. Sometimes it’s better to be proactive then reactive on certain player personnel.

  13. Against All Odds November 5th, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Soria would be content because he knows Mo isn’t going to pitch forever and if he succeeds then he has a chance to be the closer on a playoff team

Comments closed in all new threads until after the election? The danger is too great.

Or maybe just until after Monday Night Football.

When Chad speaks nothing else needs to be said. He is the last word.

  22. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 7:48 am

    Let’s get Gordon AND Soria.

    :)

  23. austinmac November 6th, 2012 at 7:52 am

I vote for . . . Gordon and Soria. It is a landslide.

  24. blake November 6th, 2012 at 7:53 am

    MTU.

    Chad is censoring us!

    Vote Hamilton!

  25. austinmac November 6th, 2012 at 7:55 am

As a charter member of Team Greedy I also support Hamilton.

  26. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 8:02 am

    Morning guys.

    Big day.

    I’ll leave it at that.

Like they said in one of the Indiana Jones movies, “Choose wisely” America.

The Hamilton thing is all about risk and contract.

I’d rather get Gordon than Hamilton unless he can be had for less than I expect.

Sorry but I just don’t see the Yankees going there.

    ;)

    Morning MTU

I vote for Soria and Hamilton.

  29. Chip November 6th, 2012 at 8:11 am

I see what the Yankees are doing now…first Chris Stewart, now Eli Whiteside – Buster Posey can’t be far behind

  30. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 8:11 am

    Kuroda-san

Please come back. We need you. You can win a ring with the Yankees this season.

I know you want that. Don’t leave your Countryman Ichiro out in the cold.

We promise to get you more run support.

You can return to the Land of the Rising Sun next year.

    Sincerely,

    MTU

Is this because there MAY be some comments made, other than baseball?

I’m sorry Chad, but your No Comments Allowed, is just plain juvenile! (:

  34. blake November 6th, 2012 at 8:25 am

I’m sure the no comments thing isn’t intentional…..it’s happened before

  35. BIG AL November 6th, 2012 at 8:25 am

    MTU -

Enjoy your hike, I hope I’m allowed to say that.

Bye y’all, have a great day, and please be sure to take time to vote.

Oh my, there I go, I did the unthinkable. :)

  36. Chip November 6th, 2012 at 8:31 am

I don’t think the no comments thing means anything – someone just forgot to activate it. I’m sure as soon as it’s realized by the LOHUD staff it will be fixed.

  37. Chip November 6th, 2012 at 8:32 am

    Blake –

the question I have is this; Chris Stewart, Gus Molina, Craig Tatum, Eli Whiteside – you think the Yankees are trying to tell us something about Frankie Cervelli?

  38. blake November 6th, 2012 at 8:34 am

“the question I have is this; Chris Stewart, Gus Molina, Craig Tatum, Eli Whiteside – you think the Yankees are trying to tell us something about Frankie Cervelli?”

I don’t know….I think Cashman just likes diving into dumpsters

  39. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 8:54 am

    Blake-

You might be onto something w Cashman.

    He sure likes trashy women.

    ;)

  40. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 8:56 am

    Thanks Al-

    Today’s the big day.

I turned 18 so I can finally vote, and I’m going hiking too.

    ————————-

I’m just saying, it wouldn’t shock me if Cervelli is dumped this winter.

  44. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 9:08 am

What difference does it make if they move Cervelli ?

He hasn’t played much of a role in quite some time.

At this point he’s just taking up a MiLB roster spot.

If they can actually get anything for him so much the better.

  45. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 9:13 am

    Chip-

Now that Bret has been banished to the Gulag the pressure is on you to come up with trade proposals all OS.

It is very important that LoHud be entertained all Winter.

You are that Man. I hope you’ve been eating your Wheaties.

Or at least putting tons of maple syrup on your pancakes.

    :)

  46. blake November 6th, 2012 at 9:14 am

Since the Yankees didn’t make Martin the qualifying offer to ensure they would only be committed to him for one year…..I’m moving more towards the opinion that they should move on from him and try to go cheaper at catcher…..try to get a really solid back up and then just hope Romine can stay healthy……Id rather go with a rookie catcher than commit to Martin for 3 years.

  47. MTU November 6th, 2012 at 9:16 am

    Blake-

I don’t think the Yankees want to let Martin go.

    I’m guessing they’ll make him a multi-year offer.

I agree that there may be better options out there.

If Romine can stay healthy I’d take another hard look at him in ST.

  48. Against All Odds November 6th, 2012 at 9:18 am

Yep more than likely it will be Martin and Stewart(or his replacement) with Romine and Eli in AAA
