Buster Olney from ESPN is reporting that the Yankees have agreed on a one-year deal with Hiroki Kuroda, which would be a very positive development even though he turns 38 in February.
Kuroda went 16-11 with a 3.32 ERA over 33 starts last season.
Mickey Storey is now Yankees property. Who? He’s a 26-year-old righty reliever who made his big-league debut in August and went 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 26 games for the Astros. The Yankees claimed him on waivers today. Storey was also 7-4 with two saves and a 3.05 ERA in 38 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, two of them starts. He was a 31st-round pick of the A’s in 2008.
The Yankees also moved six guys up to the 40-man, including lefties Manny Banuelos, Francisco Rondon and Nik Turley, righties Brett Marshall and Jose Ramirez and outfielder Ramon Flores.
Banuelos, of course, underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 4 after missing most of the season. Marshall went 13-7 with a 3.52 ERA in 27 starts for Trenton. Ramirez went 7-6 with a 3.19 ERA in 21 games, 18 of them starts, for Tampa. Rondon went 5-0 with one save and a 3.93 ERA in 44 relief outings combined for Tampa, Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Turley, a 2008 50th-round pick, went 9-5 with a 2.89 ERA in 23 games, 21 of them starts, for Tampa. And Flores hit .302 for Tampa.
The Yankees also said righty David Herndon chose free agency over being outrighted.
