Rosenthal: Nationals land Haren

The Nationals have added one of the market’s best risk-reward options.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Nats have agreed to a one-year, $13-million deal [2]with Dan Haren.
Coming off a down year, Haren was nearly traded before the Angels decided to decline his option for 2013. He’s only one year removed from a 3.17 ERA through 238.1 innings with the Angels, but there are some health concerns and his strikeout-to-walk ratio dipped considerably last season. Could be a terrific addition for the Nationals. Could be an expensive bust. I can’t help wondering if Haren might have been a fallback plan for the Yankees if they’d missed out on either Hiroki Kuroda or Andy Pettitte.
