Third base market grows clearer
According to MLB.com, the Indians have agreed to a one-year contract with corner infielder Mark Reynolds. The deal could set the stage for Kevin Youkilis to accept the Yankees one-year offer.
Youkilis is believed to be deciding between offers from the Yankees and Indians (though others could be in the mix), and the Reynolds deal could knock Cleveland out of the running. The Indians have Lonnie Chisenhall to play third.
Reynolds could have been a match for the Yankees, but his third-base defense is pretty bad. Probably would have fit better as a designated hitter and backup at the infield corners.

Is YOOOOOOOK on the way?
Do not want Youkilis on our team under any circumstances. He is a certified Grade “A” douchebag.
Say no to Youk
This place is about to burn down to the ground with a Youk signing. Should be entertaining.
Go Dodgers!
I’m mentally preparing myself for having to look at youk every game next year…..or at least until he gets hurt…..
silver lining is the way this club is shaping up so far I’ll be asleep by the 4th inning most nights anyway
Drinking copious quantities of alcohol during games might make it easier to look at Youk in pinstripes
Youk presser soon!

Exactly.
If LAD offer a decent 2 yr. deal that might get him since he lives out there.
NOOO!!!!!
Glad Reynolds is off the market. It eliminates any chance he’d be on the team, even if the Yankees lose Youkilis. Reynolds is probably the worst defensive player in the game, giving back virrually all his value with the bat. He’s like a 0.5 WAR player. Horrible. Might as well go with Nunez at that point.

I consider myself to be a 6 beer minimum so I think Youk would take a case + a handle of vodka before he becomes pretty.
Youk’s chin … Shudder the thought

He’d been looking like he’d never make it in the majors and then had a bit of a break-thru last off season. Apparently, he developed a unique hitting program with a private batting instructor and, for the most part was able to carry that into the season to take a big step forward. He’s continuing with it this off season…

The Yankees remind me of VH1′s Divas Live which in the past featured Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Tina Turner, Cher, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, and Patti LaBelle..
This years Divas Live will feature: Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Jordin Sparks, and Kelly Rowland… that’s right… they couldn’t even get the most famous member of Destiny’s Child there.
We’re in the market for Kelly Rowland right now, is what I’m saying.
Gross.

So the plan is Youk at 3B and Ichiro in RF? Really?
———————
Yes as crazy as it sounds
@AndrewMarchand: If you sign Hamilton and trade Granderson, you essentially trading them for each other plus whatever players you receive in Grandy pkge
@AndrewMarchand: To me, Hamilton plus, let’s say a package of young players, for Granderson makes a lot of sense for Yanks
Straight from Lohud
As a Yankees and Marlins (for my NL team), I’m really glad either didn’t sign Reynolds.
Blake that would make sense, at least to me!
@AndrewMarchand: .@jackstrawelf I do think that the Yanks need to sell tix. I think right now, they will have a very unexcited fan base.
@AndrewMarchand: So the money you potentially will save being under $189M, you could lose with lack of tix sales, etc.

Some classic Blondie to cheer u folks up!
With local broadcast money and attendance for the league remaining strong, according to sources after two years of seeing revenues relatively flat at $7 billion, Major League Baseball will see revenues of $7.5 billion for 2012. To place this in perspective, when accounting for inflation, baseball’s revenues have increased 257 percent since 1995 when they were $1.4 billion.
And while the number is impressive, it’s just the beginning of what will likely be one of—if not the—largest spike in revenue growth in league history. That’s because starting in 2014 the new national broadcast deals with FOX, ESPN, and TBS kick in which will add an additional $788.3 million a year. That means if MLB’s revenues remained static, league revenues for 2014 would exceed $8.4 billion. That, of course, isn’t going to happen. Revenues will get a further hefty bounce when the Dodgers finalize their broadcast deal which is reportedly worth $6-$7 billion. Depending on when that kicks in, it’s very possible that MLB could flirt with, or surpass, the $9 billion gross revenue plateau in a couple of years.

I hate that it costs money lol.. because it does make some good sense (Team Greedy of course would advocate having Hamilton AND Granderson for a year lol), especially with Gardner on hand to man CF.

LOL, oh man this is going to be good.
“Yankees need to realize these prices, and inflating payrolls aint going away”
Correct….they are quickly becoming just another team (which is what MLB wanted) as their payroll goes down and other teams payroll goes up…..the gap is closing or has already closed for the dodgers…..
Rumor has it Youk is deciding on whether to accept the Yanks offer, or turn it down to begin filming Shrek 4 immediately….
there are going to be a bunch of trades at some point, i think the first one has to go down to break the ice then a bunch of others will follow. i’d guess the yankees think they can land a catcher.
If you thought Youk was ugly before, wait until he shaves his beard. Almost unwatchable.
Joe Girardi was introduced as manager of the Yanks shorlty after A-Rod opted out. He was asked repeatedly what would be done to replace A-Rod (as obviously at the time no one knew A-Rod would return). His repeated response was “We are the Yankees.” He said it as if it were a mantra. I think its about time he reminded Hal which franchise he has the keys to. This isn’t Milwaukee, isn’t Tampa Bay, hell, this isn’t Los Angeles. This is New York. I think pretty much every Yankee fan comprehends deep down that a World Series title every year isn’t realistic. But not trying? Not spending money we know he has? Its time for Hal to remember “We are the Yankees.”

I think Youk would be an excellent 1 year fit to play third when Alex can’t and back up at 1st base to replace Swish in that role. Swish always got a lot of important hits against us. Hopefully he will start getting thos big hit for us instead.
But I have to wonder if Joba will still find a way to keep hitting him with pitches. Maybe in batting practice.
another crappy player that nobody wanted signs with another team and the it prompts another round of lohudders wailing about hal being cheap.

Who? Nobody cares about Reynolds signing…the only significant thing about that is it means they probably aren’t signing Youk
so your point is that cheap hal is going to sign the most expensive 3b man on the board this offseason? (to cover a position he’s already paying $25M to cover?)

I don’t want them to waste 12 million on Youkallis….so no that’s not my point….
I’m not crazy about Youk at 3B. I thought the Red Sox destroyed a good thing when they had Youk at first and Beltre at third – all because Theo had the hots for Gonzales. The same as he had for Drew, Lugo, etc. …
Anyway, if I were Youk, I’d take the Yankees offer (no matter what it was), since it would mean that Joba would not be “accidentally” throwing near my head any more.

You seem to be making some point, but not addressing the fundamental issue many raise.

Oh oh. It looks like Youk has already shaved.

Since I live in Red Sox territory. I’ve seen Youkilis since his very first call up years ago, this guy’s a gamer with the ability to be clutch. He’s got some motivation when he plays against his old team if he signs here. I’ll take him for 1 year. I still think you could use Scott Hairston as well. If only Hamilton was real shot.
Tar, don’t worry, Alex Lifeson is going to set ‘em straight!

I don’t care Youkilis used to be a Sox pain in the rear or is ugly. But, can he play anymore? Will his signing eliminate other signings more helpful? Those are my concerns.

omfg highway robbery. The Rays just junked a reliever & 2 years of James shields for the most valuable position player prospect in baseball
I’s amazing how many good young QB’s are starting and actually doing good in the NFL.
Maybe MLB teams will take note (like Trout) and start giving younger players more of a chance.
What does the Rays rotation look like now w/o Shields?
Before we all jump off a cliff, lets just remember — Wil Myers is a prospect. A great one, but a prospect nonetheless. Lets also remember — the key to the Rays’ kingdom is pitching. Thanks to the Fish, the Rays’ stadium chances are basically kaput. That means — Big Game James will have company leaving Tampa Bay. Basically — this is Tampa Bay’s big shot. This year and maybe next year. Then, barring a miracle, bye bye David Price. And no matter how stupid Hal seems to be right now, do we really think he will allow his moneymaker Yankee Stadium to become a wasteland …
Price
Hellickson
Moore
Cobb
Niemann
Archer

There is a reason why the Royals suck.
That is what the rayd do.
Trade older players that are about to become expensive for a haul.
Royals would have improved more by not trading for the pitchers, keeping Myers and dumping Francouer.
rays
I should say the most valuable position player prospect with no MLB time, Profar would of course be the #1. Hopefully Myers busts hard because if the Rays get their hooks in him on some team friendly long term deal its gonna suck.
Price is on the team until 2016, maybe longer as he has been opining for long term deal on twitter.
That is still a really good Rays rotation. They needed another bat to pair with Longo. Kind of sucks, looks like well be seeing him for a long time. Shields never scared me, I always thought the Yankees had a good chance to beat him.

Lies!!!!! RT @Ken_Rosenthal: Source: #Rays will send James Shields and Wade Davis to #Royals for Wil Myers and other prospects.
I agree, Tar, James Shields is crazy overrated. He never even earned his ‘big game’ name. He has like a 5 career ERA vs the Yankees. The rays will have good pitching without him. Hellickson is the next james shields anyways.

The Rays got top 5 prospect, top 20 prospect, top 60 prospect and patrick leonard who hit .251 .340 .494 .833 in the APPY league holy balls what a stupendously ddumb trade for the royals.
Myers was the minor league player of the year, 12 of the last 14 have gone on to be stars and one of the misses had a rare disease
Bad
Have no clue who those other players are. But in doesn’t sound good for us.
Davis will probably start for the Royals, so I guess the thinking is 2 quality starters for the rotation. But it seems like a lot to give up for 2 yrs of Shields.
JIM BOWDEN ?@JimBowdenESPNxm
Gutsy deal by Royals that will help them next two years to contend and haunt them six years from now
***
robneyer ?@robneyer
My quick take: This is the worst trade in MLB history unless Wade Davis becomes a good starter, in which case it’s only the second worst.
I look at it like this…..Yankee Stadium, runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, down by 1 bottom of the 8th, who would you rather have up after Jeter and maybe Cano if he’s not slumping….Granderson, ARod, Teixeira, or Youkilis….
I go with Youkilis, he is clutch…..and would be a good signing for an offense in need of some real professional hitters…
So both Rays fans are feeling pretty good tonight?
The worst hockey trade -’92, basically the Flames get Gary Leeman for Doug Gilour. Gilmour goes on to be a major#1 player with Toronto, while Leeman disappers. Gilmour had previously been traded from St. Louis for Brett Hull, and won a cup with Calgary vs Montreal.
Keith, I appreciate the effort… I will file that away if/when Youk actually comes on board, but I won’t want to waste any emotion on come to terms with Yankee Youk before I have to.
Mariners Minors ?@MiLBMariners
Shouldn’t be surprised by the Rays Royals trade since Dayton Moore did acquire Yuni Betancourt not once but twice. Bavasi-esque deal.
Not only did the Rays get younger and better and cheaper, they did it by getting rid of 2 pitchers that they really had no need for. One of them that the Yankees like to beat up on.
Sucky trade for a Yankee fan.
Sorry, ‘ disappears “
Read it and weep
$40M for the Yankees 3B ($28M A-Rod + $12M Youkilis) – ridiculous.
The Yanks should sign Jack Hannahan for a year.
‘Dude plays good defense, isn’t old, and made only $1.14M in 2012.
He’ll automatically cost $12M minus X less than Youkilis who isn’t as good a 3B as Hannahan is defensively.
Maybe Hannahan gives us a year like Scott Brosius gave us (‘not expecting a 1998 or 2001 Brosius, but a 1999 or 2000 Brosius would be nice.)
