Sabathia: Slimmed down and ready for The Show

Tweet [1]

[2]When I was a teenager, my best friend’s house included a small room above the garage. The room had an old sofa, a pool table and a Sega Genesis. I never had my own video game system, but Ben and I once sat in that little room for an entire day only to have his older brother walk into the room, hit the power button and wipe out all we had “accomplished.” I can’t remember which one of us screamed, “You hit the power!” but that phrase became an inside joke for years.

Point is, I’m seven months older than CC Sabathia, so I get it. I never owned a Nintendo, and I’ve never been a very good gamer, but video games were a key part of my generation’s experience, and being on a video game cover would be awesome.

CC wants to be on a video game cover, he actually has a chance to make it happen, and he’s legitimately campaigning for the honor.

The folks behind MLB The Show are letting fans vote on who makes the cover of this year’s game. The Yankees ace is one of the candidates, and you can vote for him by tweeting with the hashtag #mlb13cc or through this page at MLB.com. [3]

What’s CC doing to earn your vote?

Well, for starters he’s giving away stuff on Twitter, [4]but if you’re more interested in voting for him based on his offseason workouts, he’s also making the rounds at ESPN and showing up in noticeably better shape. [5]

“I’ve lost 20 pounds,” Sabathia told Colin Cowherd. “Coming off the elbow surgery, I just wanted to be healthy and stay healthy all year.”

My favorite show of support for Sabathia came from Phil Hughes who sent this tweet [6] with curious hashtags: Tweet #mlb13cc to vote for @CC_Sabathia for the cover of MLB The Show 13 #ForcedTweet #ListenToTheAce

Look at that picture up top. Would you want to upset that man?

As an aside, when I was back home for the Christmas holiday, I went to my best friend’s parents house only to discover that our old game room now has hardwood floors, a nice leather sofa and a sewing machine. His mother has taken over! Depressing. Never should have let that room out of our sight.
