Mentioned it on Twitter, but might as well mention it here as well:

I heard from a source today that the Yankees have “nothing alive” on potential trade target Mike Morse. The Yankees are still focused on finding a right-handed bat — and also working toward some minor league invitations to big league camp — but there’s no real traction toward a trade for Morse, who no longer seems to have an everyday job now that the Nationals have re-signed Adam LaRoche.

Meanwhile, down in Arizona…

Ken Davidoff spoke to Hal Steinbrenner [2]at the MLB owners meetings. Steinbrenner left what could be seen as a little bit of wiggle room in the Yankees plan to limit spending in 2014.

“Is our goal 189 next year? Yes,” Steinbrenner said. [3]“But only if I’m convinced if the team I see, that we’ve put together, is a championship-caliber team. … I believe that you don’t have to have a $220-million payroll to win a championship.”
