Here’s a good cause and a cool opportunity.

The 11th annual Hillside Food Outreach Gala will be held January 26 in Danbury, Conn. The event will be hosted by Bernie Williams with special guest David Cone. Tim Raines and Cecil Fielder are among the other guest scheduled to attend, and my good friend Sweeny Murti will once again serve as the MC.

Hillside Food Outreach works to provide food to those in need throughout Westchester County, Putnam County and Western Connecticut. Williams has been involved with the organization for more than a decade, and as a guitarist, he always performs at the annual gala (including a performance a few years ago with a 9-year-old girl named Carly Rose Sonenclar, [3] who’s now 13 and just finished second on The X-Factor).

This year’s gala will include dinner, a lively Q&A session — Sweeny promises it will be lively — as well as silent and live auctions featuring memorabilia and other unique items.

Tickets available at hillsidefoodoutreach.org [4] or by calling (914) 747-0095.

As for some notes from today…

[5]• Speaking at the owners meetings in Arizona, Hal Steinbrenner said today that there’s been “no real, significant dialogue” [6]about a contract extension with Robinson Cano.

• If you missed it earlier: Brian Costa has more of Steinbrenner’s comments from the owners meetings, [7] including this response when asked about signing Joe Girardi to an extension before his deal expires at the end of the year: “I’m not a big believer in extensions,” Steinbrenner said. “There’s exceptions to every rule, but I’m just not a big believer in extensions. I’m worried about this year. He’s not the only guy who’s coming up, obviously. I’m focusing on 2013, as I should.”

• Jack Curry says that Yogi Berra is seriously considering joining Twitter. [8]Amazing.

• Former Yankees prospect Eric Hacker — traded to Pittsburgh for Romulo Sanchez — is on the verge of signing with a team in Korea. [9]

• A couple of other short-term Yankees have signed minor league deals elsewhere. Ross Ohlendorf — who, like Hacker, was traded to Pittsburgh — has signed with the Nationals. [10]Darnell McDonald, who got into four games with the Yankees last season, signed with the Cubs. [11]
