[2] [3]The World Baseball Classic rosters will be announced on Thursday, but a few names are already leaking. Andy Pettitte and Mark Teixeira are among them. [4]

Pettitte will be back with former Yankees manager Joe Torre, who will manage the U.S. team. Seems like a cool situation for Pettitte, especially at this stage of his career. Also seems fair to wonder whether it makes sense for a 40-year-old to add this sort of spring workload, but I’m honestly not sure whether the workload will be significantly different than a regular spring training. And obviously Pettitte hasn’t pitched many innings the past three years.

As for Teixeira, Bryan Hoch makes a good point: Given his history of slow regular season starts, perhaps this is a new way of trying to avoid those April struggles.
