World Baseball Classic rosters announced today

This time of year, I usually start each day with our Pinch Hitters series, but I’m going to push today’s post to noon because the Team USA provisional roster for the World Baseball Classic is being announced in an hour. Although I’m not sure the Yankees will have a ton of players on it, I’m guessing the roster will be worth some discussion, and I’d like to legitimately give today’s Pinch Hitter the floor for a while.
So far, we’ve heard that Mark Teixeira and Andy Pettitte are expected to play for Team USA. Other’s reported as Team USA players include Brandon Phillips, Jimmy Rollins, David Wright, Joe Mauer, Ryan Braun, Shane Victorino, Adam Jones, Giancarlo Stanton, R.A. Dickey, Ryan Vogelsong, Derek Holland and Craig Kimbrel.
The full USA provisional roster will be announced on MLB Network and MLB.com at 10 a.m. ET. Rosters for other competing countries will be announced at 4 p.m.
It’s already been announced that Robinson Cano will play for the Dominican Republic, Francisco Cervelli is reportedly still deciding whether to play for Italy and both Ichiro Suzuki and Hiroki Kuroda have decided not to play for Japan.
The Yankees can only stop a player from going to the World Baseball Classic if that player is injured which will likely keep Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez and CC Sabathia out of the mix.
