This offseason, WCBS radio producer and engineer Carlos Silva was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. [2] He’s spent the winter getting treatments, and before spring training, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman will host a Hot Stove benefit to help pay for Silva’s medical bills. Joe Girardi, Brian Cashman, Mariano Rivera and Mark Teixeira will there. It’s a terrific cause and should be an awesome event for a very nice man who’s going through an awful lot. Here are the details from the Yankees. There are a lot of very cool items up for auction.

[3]Join New York Yankees radio broadcasters John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on Monday, February 4, 2013, at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square, as they host a live “Hot Stove” question and answer forum previewing the Yankees upcoming 2013 season. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, manager Joe Girardi and Mariano Rivera will take part in the forum with a VIP meet and greet beforehand. Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will join the group for the “Hot Stove” session, which will also include a silent auction of unique Yankees memorabilia. Net proceeds from the event will go to support the Carlos Silva Family though the SVG Sports Broadcasting Fund.

Silva, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, has been a producer and engineer for Yankees games on WCBS Radio 880 AM since 2006, and is currently battling esophageal and stomach cancer. Silva also produces and conducts Spanish interviews for yesnetwork.com and is responsible for translating and recording Spanish broadcast spots during the season. Throughout his career Silva has worked for ESPN Radio, Phillies Spanish radio, the NBA’s Orlando Magic and former New Jersey Nets. During the offseason, Silva resides in Lutz, Fla., with his wife, Teresa, and children, Leslie, Kimberly and Matthew.

Information for purchasing tickets for the general forum and VIP meet and greet at Hard Rock Cafe New York is available at www.CBSNewYork.com/yankeeshotstove. Only 50 VIP tickets ($150 per ticket) and 100 general admission tickets ($100 per ticket) will be sold, and are available for purchase now. VIP ticketholders will be able to meet, take photos with and receive autographs from Mariano Rivera, Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman. General admission ticketholders will each receive an autographed baseball from Mariano Rivera, Mark Teixeira, Joe Girardi or Brian Cashman.

In addition, all fans can take part in an online auction at www.yankees.com/auction with a number of unique Yankees experiences and items including:

· Half-hour instructional hitting session with Robinson Cano at Yankee Stadium
· Half-hour pitching instruction from Mariano Rivera at Yankee Stadium
· New York Yankees Bat Boy/Girl for a Day
