Notes from Tampa: Nova, Pineda, Cabral and Chamberlain

Tweet [1]

Things seem to be pretty quiet down in Tampa, but we’ll go to our Florida correspondent Erik Boland for the latest via Twitter…

[2]Ivan Nova spoke to reporters [3]at the Yankees minor league complex today. He said he’d been there for about a week and has his eyes set on winning a spot in the rotation. “I’m going to be there,” he said.

Michael Pineda threw 25 pitches off a half mound [4] and was followed by Cesar Cabral, who we were told earlier this winter is on basically the same program as Pineda.

Joba Chamberlain said he has heard back from Kevin Youkilis. [5]As you probably remember, Chamberlain and Youkilis have a history of bad blood, and Chamberlain reached out with a phone call after Youkilis signed with the Yankees. Now that Chamberlain has heard back, maybe the story of their relationship will go away. But probably not.

Phil Hughes and Clay Rapada were among those at the complex this morning. [6]Derek Jeter was also there going through his usual routine.
