The Yankees finally made a decision about their outfield alignment. Or rather, they finally decided that theres’s a decision to be made. This spring, the Yankees will try Curtis Granderson in left field and Brett Gardner in center. It won’t happen every game, but the Yankees are going to test the alignment to see how it works.
“We’re going to toy with it and see if we like it,” Joe Girardi said. “It’s looking at two guys and how they play together.”
When Granderson first came to the Yankees, he played a little bit of left field during spring training while the Yankees considered the idea of Gardner in center. However, the ultimately settled on leaving Granderson in the middle for the past three years. Making the change could depend more on Granderson than Gardner.
“I feel more comfortable going out there (to center) than I would to left field,” Gardner said. “I probably always will, even if I play left field for six or eight more years.”
Here’s Granderson discussing the potential change.
