Down a buliding, now out of a plane: Cashman going skydiving

[2]We’ve seen Brian Cashman climb down a building. Now he’s going to jump out of an airplane.

On Monday, the Yankees general manager is going to do a tandem parachute jump with the U.S. Army Golden Knights at the Homestead Air Reserve Base outside of Miami.

“In the winter I was doing something at Fox 5 with Duke Castiglione, who mentioned this as a possibility,” Cashman explained. “Duke is going with me, or I’m going with Duke. When the Golden Knights parachuted into Yankee Stadium last summer, they raised the opportunity and option of doing something. I went up to West Point and once we solidified the exhibition game with the Army, there are a lot of Army themes going on and a lot of conversations about doing a jump and jumping.”

Cashman has never gone skydiving — “It’s not like on my list of something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said — but he likes doing these sort of extreme events, and in this case, he’s doing it in the name of the Wounded Warrior Project, trying to raise awareness for that very worthy cause.

“I don’t even think I’m going to jump,” Cashman said. “I think they’re going to push me. It’s a big difference. Or, since I’m tandem, I’ll be dragged. It’s an exciting opportunity, as you can hear in my voice.”

Jumping out of a airplane and plummeting to the earth? Sounds a lot like being the Yankees GM these days. Cashman laughed at the idea.

“A nice safe landing,” he replied.
