X-rays negative for Teixeira

Mark Teixeira was scratched from today’s Team USA exhibition against the White Sox after feeling soreness in his right hand/wrist area. He went for X-rays, which came back negative.

“He was taking swings in the cage and felt something in his hand or wrist,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I’m sure there’s more tests planned, we just haven’t gotten any results.”

Long-time Yankees trainer Gene Monahan is the trainer for Team USA, so the Yankees have had a familiar source of information. Girardi said he’s not sure what’s next for Teixeira, including whether Teixeira will stay with Team USA.

“I’m sure our people are going to want to see him too,” Girardi said.

For whatever it’s worth, The Associated Press in Arizona reported that the injury is “not considered serious.”

Ben Zobrist took over at first base for Team USA. As for the Yankees, if they had to play without Teixeira — obviously that’s quite the hypothetical blow considering the current injuries already affecting Yankees camp — Girardi mentioned Dan Johnson, Juan Rivera and Kevin Youkilis (with someone else playing third) as the top in-house candidate to fill in at first.

Best case scenario is the injury prevents Teixeira from swinging lefthanded and he has to hit righthanded for the rest of his life.

Obviously, I hope it’s nothing serious, but whatever it is, the worst case scenario is for it to linger. Get it fully healed.

If he has to be out, and Adams isn’t an option. I would play Nunez everyday at 3B.

  3. kd March 5th, 2013 at 5:10 pm

youk at 1b, nix at 3b.

    ouch

  4. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:13 pm

@DKnobler: Teixeira has strained right forearm, 7-10 days, X-rays negative, but off Team USA

Shouldn’t affect opening day….if that’s all not is and it doesn’t recur

  5. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:14 pm

@AnthonyMcCarron: Teixeira is already gone from Team USA clubhouse. He’s going to see Yankee doctors

  6. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

Yeah, they’ll probably MRI it and won’t know anything for certain until then.

  7. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:17 pm

@JonHeymanCBS: that ped rumor thats been floating out there today is compete BS, and thats capital BS. lets move on.

  8. kd March 5th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

    what was the rumor?

  9. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:24 pm

Some guy tweeted that Granderson, Cano , and Arod were gonna get suspended….

    what was the rumor?

    ——————–

Grandy, Braun, A-rod, and Robbie were all going to be suspended for failing PED test

  11. jacksquat March 5th, 2013 at 5:25 pm

Rumor was that Cano, Granderson, Arod and Braun would be getting 50 game suspensions.

  12. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

The rumor was laughable. I don’t know why the MSM even dignifies it by acknowledging it.

  13. G. Love March 5th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

Well, on the plus side Tex won’t use up all his good swings in the WBC but I’d be lying to you if I didn’t think that this wrist/forearm thing will be this years “cough”.

  14. kd March 5th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

jeez. that’s an ugly rumor and it’s sad people put that stuff out there

  15. jacksquat March 5th, 2013 at 5:27 pm

Can those suspensions be served while a player is on the DL, or would they not start until a player is off the DL?

  16. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:27 pm

Same guy said Jeter and Bautista failed tests last year…. It’s nonsense

  17. Jerkface March 5th, 2013 at 5:29 pm

The thing with the rumor is that the same source nailed Melky’s suspension a month before it happened. So they are either lucky or have some credibility.

  18. Jerkface March 5th, 2013 at 5:29 pm

Same guy said Jeter and Bautista failed tests last year…. It’s nonsense

No, that was a joke. The tweet right before it was: “I’m going to just start making up rumors about age 30+ players having career years, I’ll probably be right 25% of the time”

  19. Jerkface March 5th, 2013 at 5:30 pm

Suspensions are served on the DL.

Wanna say that the rumor is almost assuredly bs, but the scary thing is the guy called Melky’s suspension before it was ever news.

  20. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2013 at 5:32 pm

If he got Melky’s suspension right, the guy must have porn connections.

  21. G. Love March 5th, 2013 at 5:34 pm

I was in the car and Francesa was saying the guy that started the PED rumor already came out publicly and said he did it just to get hits for his website and he has no source. Can anyone verify that?

    No. They’re sticking with it.

This analysis is basically the Yankees know best:

    http://itsaboutthemoney.net/ar.....ter-field/

Not much to debate if that’s your line of reasoning.

  24. Doreen March 5th, 2013 at 5:54 pm

My glass is down ton1/3 full with this news. ;)

  25. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2013 at 5:56 pm

    Keep the faith, Doreen!

  26. austinmac March 5th, 2013 at 5:57 pm

If his injury is to his wrist, that is a concern. We have to have him even if he hits .240ish.

Let’s hope we are getting the injuries out of the way.

  27. blake March 5th, 2013 at 5:59 pm

“No, that was a joke. The tweet right before it was: “I’m going to just start making up rumors about age 30+ players having career years, I’ll probably be right 25% of the time””

Kinda sounds like what he’s doing….Melky was the 25%

  28. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:01 pm

If Granderson’s name wasn’t in there then is but it more….Braun and Arod are already linked and it’s not a huge leap for me to think Cano may have been…..but Grandy? That’s be really surprising

  29. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2013 at 6:01 pm

The lengths that Tex will go to in order to prove his importance to the team. ;)

  30. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:03 pm

The only way a random person could know something like that about multiple players is if they either worked at or knew somebody that works for MLB that talked…..it’s pretty easy to claim to be an anonymous source on twitter and many people suspected Melky last year before te news came out

Yea but to make 1 call and have it turn out to be right? Thats a one in a million thing. And the jarring thing is that the tweet is from the ASB when we know Melky failed the test.

  32. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:06 pm

Maybe team USA can get Fielder to play….woukd be an upgrade

  33. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:07 pm

I’m guessing super lucky….I think it’s BS but man if its true the fallout in the Bronx……basically can’t see how the Yanks would recover. They might could get Cano at a better price though

  34. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:10 pm

Also leaking one name is different than 4….if its one name it could be somebody close to the player….if its 4 then it has to be somebody on the inside at MLB….again I doubt it’s true but if it is they have a serious leakage problem as usual

  35. blake March 5th, 2013 at 6:18 pm

Lets say Cano did get busted and had to sign 100 million cheaper than be would have…..would this be a bad thing? The answer isn’t a simple one

That wouldn’t happen (signing for that much less).

  37. RhapsodyInBlue March 5th, 2013 at 6:27 pm

You would think if Cano saw it coming he would have taken the Yankees first offer.
