X-rays negative for Teixeira

[2]Mark Teixeira was scratched from today’s Team USA exhibition against the White Sox after feeling soreness in his right hand/wrist area. He went for X-rays, which came back negative.
“He was taking swings in the cage and felt something in his hand or wrist,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I’m sure there’s more tests planned, we just haven’t gotten any results.”
Long-time Yankees trainer Gene Monahan is the trainer for Team USA, so the Yankees have had a familiar source of information. Girardi said he’s not sure what’s next for Teixeira, including whether Teixeira will stay with Team USA.
“I’m sure our people are going to want to see him too,” Girardi said.
For whatever it’s worth, The Associated Press in Arizona reported that the injury is “not considered serious.”
Ben Zobrist took over at first base for Team USA. As for the Yankees, if they had to play without Teixeira — obviously that’s quite the hypothetical blow considering the current injuries already affecting Yankees camp — Girardi mentioned Dan Johnson, Juan Rivera and Kevin Youkilis (with someone else playing third) as the top in-house candidate to fill in at first.
