TIME/TV: 1:05 p.m., none

WEATHER: Temperatures in the mid to high 60s. Beautiful day out here. Great spring stadium.

UMPIRES: HP Chris Conroy, 1B Gerry Meals, 2B Mike Estabrook, 3B Sean Barber

A KID’S GAME: With Gary Sanchez assigned to minor league camp, the younger player still in big league camp with the Yankees is OF Ramon Flores who was born on March 26, 1992. Mariano Rivera is, of course, still the oldest.

SECOND START Considered the favorite for the fifth starter job, Ivan Nova looked sharp and pitched two scoreless innings in his first spring start. He’ll likely go three innings today.

WHAT TO WATCH: Juan Rivera gets the first first base start in the wake of the full Mark Teixeira diagnosis. He came into camp trying to win an outfield job, but he might now have more of an opening in the infield. … Speaking of the infield, Ronnier Mustelier is getting a turn at third base. He’s become primarily an outfielder, but he spent most of his time in Cuba playing the infield. … SS Addison Maruszak is trying to get over some of the fielding mistakes that have plagued him early this spring. … Brett Marshall, Matt Tracy and Kelvin Perez are likely to follow Nova on the mound.

UPDATE, 1:09 p.m.: Gardner starts the game with a walk, but is picked off at first.

Meanwhile, Joel Sherman reports that Mariano Rivera is planning to announce [2] on Saturday that he will retire at the end of this season.

UPDATE, 1:16 p.m.:┬áRBI single and a stolen base for Cervelli. Clearly he’s just showing off at this point. It’s 1-0 Yankees and Cervelli maintains his lead in the catcher competition.

UPDATE, 1:25 p.m.: Looked like Diaz lost the ball in the sun. Could have been a catch in foul territory. Instead, the at-bat continues.
