Derek Jeter couldn’t remember the last time he’d been to see Dr. Robert Anderson, but it was definitely before spring training; maybe a week or two before. What Jeter does remember is that his ankle wasn’t fully healed the last time he saw the doctor. When Jeter saw Dr. Anderson yesterday, the healing process was complete.

“It’s always reassuring when someone says something that’s broke is not broke any more,” Jeter said. “Now it’s just getting through the normal aches and pains that come around it. As long as you know the break has healed, then the aches and pains, that goes away on its own.”

Jeter said Dr. Anderson gave him clearance for full activity, but during today’s workout, that clearance didn’t change anything. Jeter went through the same sort of drills he’s been doing for a few weeks, which did not include running the bases at full speed.

“It could be tomorrow; it could be the next day,” Jeter said. “But I don’t think I have to run them full speed before I play. If you go back to spring trainings of the past, I don’t think anyone is running the bases at full speed before the first game. As long as I can get around, that’s fine.”

Previously, Jeter had indicated that running the bases at full speed would be a fairly significant milestone, but today he downplayed the importance.

“I’ll give you the same answer I gave the other day,” Jeter said. “As soon as I’m able to play, I’ll play. I haven’t talked to Girardi. They’ve been gone. Stevie (Donohue) has been gone too. I’m sure I’ll talk to them at some point tomorrow. We’ll see. As soon as I can play, I’ll play.”
