Rivera to retire after this season

Mariano Rivera just made it official, this will be his final season.

Rivera said simply, now is the time.

He said he absolutely would have retired at the end of last season if not for the ACL injury. He said he did not want his career to end that way, so he will give one more year before stepping away as the greatest closer of all time.

Farewell, Mo. You were always one of my favorites.

Okay, this is going to be a bittersweet season, but it’s okay. He’s given us something no fans of any other team have had the privilege of knowing, and I believe, they never will.

I do believe he will be back with the Yanks, and I can live with that.

    THANK YOU MO!

And those comments about his teammates are why he is the greatest ever.

    Straw -

I am a ball of tears and with everything he says, it just brings more tears. There will never be anyone else like him. Humility defines him. You can tell he is truly centered in God because a lot of people talk the talk, but when someone lives likes he does, you know they are walking the walk.

I want to be one of the fans Mariano thanks.

    WHERE DO I APPLY ???

Cashman and Hal did you hear that? MO would like his last pitch to be at the W.S.

Don’t intentionally deny this man of that.

He should be involved with the Yankees, especially working with his son, Jafet, on the cutter so he can be the next great Rivera to don the pinstripes.

    Wow.

I wish a had a quarter of the grace that he has in his little finger.

    Just amazing.

Is there a more perfect ball player/teammate/person?

Every stadium Mariano pitches in, should play Enter Sandman.

Very rare to actually hear Mariano speak Spanish.

    Still very soft spoken.

‘He Doesn’t want you to be sad.”

    Sorry Mo.

Sad, but I don’t think I could be a prouder Yankee fan than right now.

I hope he gets the respect he earned in each away stadium this year, even at Fenway. I’ll be at Fenway cheering for him louder than anyone is year…. From wayyyyyy up in the Budweiser pavilion.

If the team can’t rally behind this guy this year, they never will. I think they do. Put the notion of an 81 win season out of your heads.

  16. ac1 March 9th, 2013 at 10:37 am

The young guys should be inspired to become even a little like Rivera…

    ac1

Like Chipper Jones, he’ll get gifts from each team and stadium he visits this year, and he’ll be applauded at each and every stop.
