New look for LoHud blogs being rolled out today; POSTPONED

Posted by: vmercogliano - Posted in Misc on Mar 13, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Good afternoon Yankees fans! Vin Mercogliano here from The Journal News offices in White Plains. I just wanted to post a quick note letting you all know that we’re going to be converting a bunch of our LoHud blogs to our new theme this afternoon, so please bear with us for the next few hours. You’ll still able to visit the blog while we’re doing our thing, but if something doesn’t look right for a little bit, there’s no need to panic. Everything will be back to normal soon enough, and we’re hoping that you all enjoy the improvements!

UPDATE, 1:36 p.m.: Due to a last second issue, we’re going to hold off on the conversion for this particular blog. We’ll still be converting it soon, but everything will remain the same for at least another week.

“There’s something to be said for trading Chamberlain, given the proper return. He’s injury-prone and annoying to be around, and a well-run scouting department can find good relievers.”

    LOL

    From Davidoff’s piece: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/.....z2NROJCeAB

  2. ac1 March 13th, 2013 at 1:23 pm

I sure would. I might not be able to forgive Cashman if he goes something like $250/9.
    __

Agreed. I said 9/225 was the ABSOLUTE MAX, taking into account this year. 9/231 passes that.

  3. Jerkface March 13th, 2013 at 1:24 pm

I hate change, so I hope you guys know what you’re doing with this new theme.

  4. Rich in NJ March 13th, 2013 at 1:26 pm

i feel like most yankee fans will forgive cashman if they offer cano 216 mil and he turns it down and leaves.
    -

Cashman doesn’t decide on these offers. Contracts of that size are up to the owners.

  5. DONNYBROOK March 13th, 2013 at 1:27 pm

Why these Geeks can Not MONKEY around during the dead of Winter, is anyone’s guess.

  6. Rich in NJ March 13th, 2013 at 1:27 pm

Annoying is now the test of whether or not someone should be traded? Is that a goof?

The max is relative, IMO. If they don’t give a crap about the budget, then they can pay him whatever he wants without me being mad at Cash or the FO. It’s only when they sign him to a big money deal and tell us they’re strapped that you have to consider either letting him walk or moving him mid year (I, like most of you, don’t think they’ll trade him at any point).

  8. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:29 pm

I am looking forward to the new and improved Lohud. Perhaps there will be a space for us to post selfies! *crosses fingers*

  9. Rich in NJ March 13th, 2013 at 1:31 pm

If the choice is between (hypothetically) signing Cano and no one else of note for a couple of years, or saving the money and money and making a bunch of smart signings over the same period, I would opt for the latter.

Obviously, if it’s a Shame-esque approach that would be preferable though.

“I am looking forward to the new and improved Lohud. Perhaps there will be a space for us to post selfies! *crosses fingers*”

lol…that could be scary in some cases

  11. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:31 pm

Davidoff is so confusing.. his take on the Biogenesis thing, for a journalist, is weird. He seems to think the New Times should hand the info over based on… emotion. And then calls the editor a junior for not understanding this. Odd logic.

And the thing about Joba is funny.. I wonder if Swish was also annoying to be around.

  12. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:32 pm

blake – Only if you really look like Youk. Which seems suspect since you know someone that’s willing to make the babies with you and stuff.

  13. Abe Peterham March 13th, 2013 at 1:32 pm

Joba is worth more to the yanks this year and even to sign him for the future. We sign all these mid road bums to millions, surely they can throw a few years 16 mill at joba.
Hopefully w the lohud update they improve the mobile program . … I wonder what the mobile/ desktop ratio is. I for one hate the “tweet” that starts all the mobile information imbedded as the first word :0

  14. DONNYBROOK March 13th, 2013 at 1:33 pm

This Cano offer is disinformation courtesy of the Yankee FO. You guys are falling for hit hook-line-and sinker.

  15. blake March 13th, 2013 at 1:34 pm

I vote sign Cano and all those other smart signing too…..but since that’s probably not an option…..I’d prefer several good signings over 1 Cano mega-contract at age 31

  16. RadioKev March 13th, 2013 at 1:34 pm

    Shame,

He didn’t even say, “annoying to be around for the players.” I’m sorry he doesn’t enjoy Joba’s company… maybe he should find a new occupation?

Me too… I want Andrus. Why can’t we just have Cano AND Andrus?

  18. DONNYBROOK March 13th, 2013 at 1:36 pm

You do Not get much for a 6th\7th inning RP. I would hang onto Chamberlain, but with Hal, this could come down to merely saving a buck or 2.

  19. blake March 13th, 2013 at 1:37 pm

“blake – Only if you really look like Youk. Which seems suspect since you know someone that’s willing to make the babies with you and stuff.”

Sasquatches apparently make babies somehow. I’ll change my twitter photo briefly.

    —————-

It’s not impossible. I have said I think the FO is leaking some of this stuff purposely to show they’re trying. Hopefully it means they are serious about keeping him and not just about pacifying people that they tried to keep him.

    —————-

Yeah! The wording is real weird. Was he implying he’s annoying to be around for the players or just in general for everyone in the Yankees locker room…?

  22. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Ugh, false alarm, no hope for selfies yet.

Anyway, I just reread that last bit Davidoff posted and need to correct myself: he’s saying that the New Times’ editor is being motivated by emotion. (I still don’t think it makes a ton of sense to disclose the records from a journalistic standpoint.)

  23. FiretheUMPIRE March 13th, 2013 at 1:43 pm

216/8 sounds more like Boras’ opening demand, not an offer that was never countered by Cano. It sounds more like a ransom that was never countered by the Yankees.

So Boras could have leaked it just to artificially inflate Cano’s tag and buy him some room for balking at lowball Yankee offers deemed by the Yankees as “significant”.

    This stuff is so easy.

  24. Bronx Jeers March 13th, 2013 at 1:48 pm

So we’ll have to wait a week to see everybody’s phony or severely dated photo of themselves?

  25. ac1 March 13th, 2013 at 1:48 pm

I think few believe the Cano story, but now that we have numbers to talk off of, we can discuss how ridiculous the number actually is..

  26. Jerkface March 13th, 2013 at 1:49 pm

If this blog moves to facebook I’ll not be sticking around, you hear me, LOHUD?

  27. FiretheUMPIRE March 13th, 2013 at 1:50 pm

Boras got then 28 year-old Mark Teixeira 8 years/$180M (2009-16). Cano’s contract needs to be kept in that ballpark. The “significant” offer was also an opening offer as far as we know so it probably started below Tex’s. They have plenty of time to meet somewhere in the middle.

This looks like the new Theme, ugh gross.

  30. blake March 13th, 2013 at 1:54 pm

“If this blog moves to facebook I’ll not be sticking around, you hear me, LOHUD?”

    wow me neither.

  31. Jerkface March 13th, 2013 at 1:54 pm

Its way too crazy pants looking. Theres too much junk in between the post and the comments.

  32. Rich in NJ March 13th, 2013 at 1:55 pm

No way with FB for me.

  33. DONNYBROOK March 13th, 2013 at 1:56 pm

I guess the Geeks have rescued us from DEFCON 1. Applaud Now.

  34. FiretheUMPIRE March 13th, 2013 at 1:57 pm

    My FB is love/hate. Depends.

  35. Irreverent Discourse March 13th, 2013 at 1:58 pm

Wow, that new “theme” is horrendous. Someone needs to take some web design classes.

Jerkface, someone left you a lovely note on that article you just linked… lol…

  36. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:58 pm

JF – Did you see the lone comment in the first post…? You were given a shout out by someone using Bret’s handle. Might be Bret. Has Bret just been responding to everything in here on the METS LOHUD BLOG because that would be insane.

  37. Abe Peterham March 13th, 2013 at 1:58 pm

Put me in the FB hate column

  38. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 1:59 pm

And omg, we can totally post selfies….. shoot, I better get my game face on.

  39. Irreverent Discourse March 13th, 2013 at 1:59 pm

and I was totally at that game where Mo got his only RBI (and 500th save). :)

  40. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 2:01 pm

Perhaps I’ll take a whole host of selfies to reflect my varying moods and change it accordingly… perhaps I’ll just find a snap shot of Cash’s mistress and stick with that as my default.. oh boy, so much to consider..

  41. Irreverent Discourse March 13th, 2013 at 2:01 pm

Another side note… that Met’s blog certainly has a lot of articles about the Yankees. I think that guy is jealous Chad, you better watch yourself in the lunch room. :)

  42. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Jetet leading off at SS, Ben Francisco starting in RF #Yankees

“perhaps I’ll just find a snap shot of Cash’s mistress and stick with that as my default.. ”

Don’t you mean a mug shot?

  44. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 2:03 pm

The new format looks like a mobile format… all that stuff at the top is a mess, btw, in case Vin cares what we think. I’m thinking they might still be working on the format.

  45. RadioKev March 13th, 2013 at 2:03 pm

I’m going to pin the crap out of newLOHUD.

  46. DONNYBROOK March 13th, 2013 at 2:04 pm

Lunch room? Pad lock your stall in the bathroom.

  47. Shame Spencer March 13th, 2013 at 2:05 pm

Don’t you mean a mug shot?

    —————

Is that available…?! Right now I’m kind of obsessed with Jodi Arias’ bangs but if I can find that woman’s mug shot I turn over my obsessions pretty frequently.

  48. Jerkface March 13th, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Wow the mets blog gets no comments. A good day is 2.

  49. RadioKev March 13th, 2013 at 2:07 pm

It definitely looks more tablet/mobile friendly.

Yeah, Shame, the word cloud article thing up top is difficult to take in.

  50. FiretheUMPIRE March 13th, 2013 at 2:07 pm

Why all the FB hate? Are people to ashamed to rant in front of friends and family and only reserve that sort of crazy behavior for anonymous people that you will never meet in real life?

Me personally, I prefer responding to Yahoo mainpage articles on my FB in a room full of people who know me well enough to know not to take me too seriously.

  51. Rich in NJ March 13th, 2013 at 2:08 pm

    “Is that available…?!”

    For a price, probably.

“Right now I’m kind of obsessed with Jodi Arias’ bangs but if I can find that woman’s mug shot I turn over my obsessions pretty frequently.”

Jodi Arias has made passion something to be wary of. ;)

    :)

  53. Bronx Jeers March 13th, 2013 at 2:10 pm

I thought we were going to do Facebook links a long time ago. I even did a fake Facebook account just for the occasion.

My photo was that pic of ARod lighting a cigar and looking like a true player (not the baseball kind)

As a side note if you google image search my screen name the first image up is of the O’Neill banner. Proud of that.

  54. Ralow March 13th, 2013 at 5:28 pm

That new layout is terrible…plus, now you have to click a link if you want to read the whole blog post. I guess that generates more ad revenue (which is blocked on my browser anyway) but still. The new format is very hard to read. Why couldn’t you guys dick around with this in January or December? This is probably one of the top 3 Yankees blogs as far as traffic and it was mainly because of the format (and the superb interaction of the beat writer). Why mess with a good thing??
