Injury updates: Mustelier, Jeter, Heathcott, Stewart
• Ronnier Mustelier has bruises on both legs after running into a railing while chasing a foul ball. He has a bruise to his right knee and left thigh. “No x-rays,” he said. “I just have some ice to take down the inflammation.” He said he’s hoping to feel healthy enough to play tomorrow, but Joe Girardi said Mustelier probably won’t play again until Tuesday.
• Derek Jeter said his ankle still feels fine. He expects to play again tomorrow.
• Slade Heathcott has patellar tendonitis. No word on when he’ll be back on the field.
• Chris Stewart took a foul ball off his right shoulder the other day, but he’s still expected to play tomorrow.

I’m starting to think Slade is never going to stay healthy. It might make sense for them to trade him if he can actually play (and well) the first half of the yr.
Did Jeter tweek his ankle?
I’ve had Patellar Tendinitis twice. It is extremely painful trying to run, even walk. For me, it took no exercise for 10 days and anti-inflammatories and pain killers.
Mr. mick,
No, that’s why it still feels fine.
Oh Slade….could be growing pains….my knees hurt there a lot when I was his age

Chip- How did you come up with this?
No Phelps? No Musty but Joseph?
13 pitchers and 13 position players?
No Nix?
Not happening…
Curry said Girardi doesn’t like the trio of Jeter Gardner and Ichiro together in lineup.
This should translate to Jeter Ichi at top and Gardy back to 9th.
Or Ichi as a rover in the lineup .
Gardner at the bottom is so predictable. Girardi has box-bound vision.
Welcome to the 4077th Yankees MASH unit.
Yanks sign Boesch.
Man i dont know how the 40 man is going to work.
No way Francisco/Rivera/Boesch all make this team unless Musty gets screwed or we risk losing someone already on there that can’t be moved to 60 day.
Makes no sense, though i actually believe Boesch is a good pick up. Guess Mesa has no chance now of making the team.
He wants Cano up 3rd.
Youk/ Pronk will hit behind him.
Against a lefty, Pronk will sit for either Nunez, Rivera or Francisco whoever is hot.
This will shorten the lineup.
Boesch has to start the year in the minors and fix that bat.

Yeah ok. Of course having speed and average at the top makes no sense. God Girardi cannot think beyond the status quo at all. No instincts.
Gardner will hit .280 and be on base .360-.370, Jeter is a .300 hitter and Ichiro can also hit .300 AND steal. Those three should definitely be hitting 1-2-3 with cano behind them mashing them all in.
Any other idea is just ridiculous.
‘Cause after allllllll you’re my Mustywalllll…

Says its a major league deal.
Dont see him going to the minors.
I like the Boesch signing.

You may be too young to know this terrible song, Shame, but…

Rich,
I like it, too, but for how much?

In a first for this blog I agree with Rich, does this mean a meteorite is going to hit the earth in the very near future?
I like the Boesch signing, from memory he’s pretty good defensively, has some pop at the plate, and is young so has some upside.
He’s certainly an upgrade, in terms of major league ability, from the other guys they have in camp.
I smell an OF platoon with Boesch and Francisco.
Why did Det. let him go?
I like it, too, but for how much? 1.5M plus incentives.
I smell an OF platoon with Boesch and Francisco.

Then Rivera is not coming north?
I feel like Rivera is a lock because he can back up first base.
I dont see Rivera, Boesch (who is definitely coming north) and Francisco coming.
I also cannot wait to watch how Cashman handles this 40 man situation.
Cash is always searching for lightening in a bottle.
Maybe Boesch loves the short porch.
Surprised no other team wanted him.
I’m pro-meteors, MG, as long as they don’t kill anyone.
Major league deal but he has one option left. So they can send him down if they like.
I think we’ll see Rivera/Boesch, and mustelier. Dont see Francisco or Mesa coming north.

This would be my ideal solution too.
Boesch vs. RHP
Rivera v LHP
Rivera can back up Youk at 1B (keep Youk healthy)
Musty will play 3B and Nix can back him and Cano up.
Nunez will DH/SS vs. LHP.

…Brennan Boesch…
The Tigers are stating that it was a financial decision.
Boesch and the Tigers agreed to a one-year arbitration-avoiding deal back in January that would have paid the outfielder $2.3 million this season, but it turns out that contracts like this aren’t fully guaranteed at the onset. The Tigers had until today to release him in order to recoup the largest possible portion of that money.
The Tigers are obliged to pay only one-sixth of his salary, meaning they are on the hook for slightly less than $400,000.
If he is claimed on waivers during the next 48 hours, the acquiring club is responsible for his entire salary.
Maybe they’ll (the Tigers) see that Casper Wells really is going to get pushed out in Seattle and swing a low-cost deal to bring him back in the fold.
They need a LH power bat.
This will come down to one of Nix or Musty .Francisco and Boesch will platoon.
Musty could be sent down with Rivera at 1st.

you just have to watch out for those dirty meteorites, the ones who would spike Robbie Cano on the way down…
I hope this wasn’t offensive to any of the Meteorites who read this blog or their children…

Since they will be facing mostly rightys and Tex and Grandy both hit from left side, we need 2 lefty bats to replace them for now.
Boesch could be one of them.
We need a lefty bat at 1st.

Neal looks like a potentially helpful player. He seems to have a chance to hit and has some speed.
It is a shame Melky has contact trouble because my limited exposure to him shows him to be a tremendous outfielder with a very good arm. He can steal. I suppose they have tried having him in a more normal batting position. He seems to wrap the bat necessitating a long swing.
I wish Rich and MG could gets on the same page when it comes to meteorites. It would portent a happier time for us all.
