Here’s the announcement from the Yankees…
The New York Yankees today announced they have agreed to terms with outfielder Brennan Boesch on a one-year major league contract.
Boesch, 27, hit .240 (113-for-470) with 52 runs, 22 doubles, 12 home runs and 54RBI in 132 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2012. He made 115 starts in right field, committing just two errors and recording five assists.
Originally selected by the Tigers in the third round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, he has appeared in 380 career games over parts of three seasons (2010-12) – all with Detroit – batting .259 (353-for-1,362) with 176 runs, 73 doubles, 42 home runs and 175RBI. He did not appear on the Tigers’ postseason roster in either of the past two years. Boesch was released on Wednesday.
The left-handed batter owns a .286 (96-for-336) batting average against left-handed pitchers, but has hit 36 of his 42 career homers off right-handers. He owns a .367 (11-for-30) career batting average at Yankee Stadium.
In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees placed RHP Michael Pineda on the 60-day disabled list.
