I wish I could sleep in on Saturdays, but with all this baseball machinery,…might as well take another go.

  2. blake March 16th, 2013 at 9:32 am

Sadly if you add Cano this is probably the primary guys for the lineup…..Cervelli might beat out Stewie but I have my doubts

Watching the game last night….the catchers for both sides just stood out.

Yadie is the best defensive catcher I’ve ever seen….especially receiving…..he’s underpaid…..just ridiculous how good he is.

Then there is Joe Mauer…..who just hits like very few players today….his ABs remind me of better times in the Bronx where the Yanks would just grind ABs and every player had an approach up there. Mauer never is off balance….he tracks pitches so well and waits forever to committ. If I were Cashman Id call and offer to take his entire contract just for the bat…..he’s going to have a big year

Given that Girardi said he won’t use Gardner, Jeter, Ichiro as the top three (which I think is what most of us would do) I think you’re probably right Blake

The only difference is I think that he will split the lefties and righties by putting Pronk between Youk and Rivera.

The lengths the Yankees have gone to in order to test the canard that pitching wins…

    Go Boesch.

    Blake -

The other thing that stood out watching Team USA in the WBC is that I had forgotten how painful it is to watch Joe Torre manage. I’ll always be grateful to him for the way he helped bring a dynasty to the Yankees again, but he was and is just a brutal in game manager.

  6. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 9:41 am

Yeah, Mauer is premium,…almost too good to catch. We only ever had serviceable catchers up here if you don’t count Delgado. I still like the tandem of Buck Martinez and Ernie Whitt, not to mention Borders choking on his chew :) ( kinda’ gave it up after that collision )

  7. blake March 16th, 2013 at 9:42 am

    Chip,

Yes the lineup may be different but these are probably the names….I think they are leaning heavily towards Rivera playing 1B every day…..which means they’ll get zero offense from 1B in 2/3 of the games

  8. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 9:45 am

If Adam Lind makes it back, he’ll be the second coming of Encarnacion.

  9. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 9:46 am

    Too many ST games……………just sayin………….

  10. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 9:48 am

    jmills……………

You mean if Lind overcomes being a ‘K’ machine ?

  11. blake March 16th, 2013 at 9:48 am

    Chip,
Yea some of it I’m sure was Torre having to serve 2 masters…..trying to win and also keeping everybody happy (team USA treats it like an all star game…. They don’t play to win) …..but that said…..he killed them …..he was terrible…::maybe in 4 years they will get active manag

  12. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 9:50 am

Oscar, you could say that, and to think in one sample size, he was crushing lefties.

Totally agree. I think the Boesch signing ends Mustellier’s chances of making the team.

I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but like I said, I wonder if the roster crunch gets Mesa and Joseph up on the 25 instead of Francisco and Nix?

  14. Chip March 16th, 2013 at 9:53 am

The funny thing about the WBC pitching rules is that my guess is they were set up as much because Joe Torre was a manager as anything.

  15. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 9:56 am

    jmills…………..

He was and then it all vanished quickly, even that stint in the ml didn’t help him

  16. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 9:56 am

The WBC has weird rules that the Mexicans forgot, resulting in their first hockey game vs the Canadians.

  17. blake March 16th, 2013 at 9:57 am

@JackCurryYES: After Tigers released Boesch, he said Yankees were 1st team on his list. Once Yanks expressed interest, he implored agent to get deal done.

  18. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 9:58 am

    blake………..

Is Torre getting the blame here based on his NYY days and his being disliked by many here ? After all it is a team game………..just sayin………

  19. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 9:58 am

Oscar, some guys just lose it seemingly out of the blue.

  20. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 10:01 am

I wish double A hadn’t traded Hill and Johnny Mac for Johnson. Like Lind, Hill had lost it, but seems to have regained some altitude.

Would venture to bet that the young guys all get sent down for the usual continual playing time / more seasoning excuse. That’s the way it almost always is imo

  22. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 10:04 am

    jmills…………

Much like Hill yes, and now Hill was very productive in AZ last year, will be interesting to see if he can do it back to back which he couldn’t do in Toronto.

  23. blake March 16th, 2013 at 10:04 am

“Is Torre getting the blame here based on his NYY days and his being disliked by many here ? After all it is a team game………..just sayin………”

No….he was terrible ….but they mostly lost cause they couldn’t hit crappy pitching.

  24. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 10:07 am

No use crying, I’ll be happy just to get solid D at second. Regardless of the outcome, I wish Hill well.

  25. Tar March 16th, 2013 at 10:08 am

“It’s time to have a little national pride and play this thing to win in 4 years like everybody else…..or simply not send a team USA”

Until the USA sends its best ball players it’s going to continue to be embarrassing. And the best players are not going to go unless the time frame is changed.

WHEN it takes place is the real issue here

  26. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 10:09 am

….but they mostly lost cause they couldn’t hit crappy pitching.

    ————–

Yup, mostly scrubs. I think Torre kept in mind that it is still ST and not the WS. Do you know if the players even get paid or is it a pride thing representing their respective countries ?

  27. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 10:13 am

Good to see Votto there; take note Bautista, although I guess it was the team telling you not to go.

  28. Bronx Jeers March 16th, 2013 at 10:34 am

Before getting traded to the Chunichi Dragons in the middle of spring training, what team did Tom Selleck play with in the 1992 film “Mr. Baseball” ?

(Hint- this team would never make that trade in today’s reality. More likely he would be offered a large one year contract! )

  29. jmills March 16th, 2013 at 10:37 am

Bronx, I vaguely recall that film and stand here, clueless.

  30. Oscar Madison March 16th, 2013 at 2:13 pm

    Bronx……………..NYY
