According to Evan Drellich in Fort Myers, Yankees outfielder Brennan Boesch has been scratched from today’s lineup because of soreness in his left rib cage. I’m not with the team today because I stayed behind in Tampa to see Derek Jeter’s workout and Phil Hughes’ minor league game.

Boesch was certainly expected to play today, listed as the Yankees starting right fielder and No. 2 hitter.

As for Jeter, he just finished a rather routine workout. He took batting practice and fielded ground balls but did not run the bases. He said he understands the Yankees idea about keeping him in minor league games for the rest of spring training, but he seems determined to change that plan by proving he’s healthy enough to play.

“I understand it, but I also know plans change sometimes,” Jeter said. “… When I’m ready to play, I’ll play here (on the major league field). I’ll play anywhere when I’m ready to play. It’s a day-to-day thing. Today was here. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
