I think our Musty hopes are dead. Francisco, Boesch, Rivera. Oh joy.

  2. Yankee Trader March 24th, 2013 at 9:39 am

Club officials have told ESPN’s Buster Olney that Scott Boras continues to ask for $14-15MM per season for Lohse (Twitter link).

    Good luck!

  3. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 9:40 am

Man,…Chad is sure fast with the new post thing.

  4. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 9:43 am

    No Cano again?

  5. Yankee Trader March 24th, 2013 at 9:45 am

Mustelier deserves a spot on the roster.

If they don’t plan to keep him on the roster than trade him, so he gets a chance to play in the big leagues.

Why hasn’t Dan Johnson been cut yet?

  6. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 9:45 am

Austin, I ran into a really stuffy audiophile yesterday. I don’t have his kind of money anyways :) as Billy Joel relates, you get more mileage from an old pair of speakers. He was playing something and trying to tell me it wasn’t jazz, when it was jazz. I told him that musical categories should be looked upon as liquid. Anyways, the person I was with dropped a few on one of those radios Tom in Georgia has. Very nice.

    No Cano again?
    ————
The Yankees are probably listening to trade offers for him, and don’t want to risk him getting hurt by playing today. :)

So instead of “pointlessly” asking Jeter….

    therealarieber
Derek Jeter is doing nothing today, according to Cashman. “He’s sore,” Cashman said.

  9. Yankee Trader March 24th, 2013 at 9:52 am

    Have a great day everyone

    Until later

  10. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 9:52 am

YT – u can have Aaron Sanchez, Jimenez and Colby for Cano contingent upon a contract.

  11. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 9:54 am

Chad, any news on Cano? It seems odd that he would not play two days in a row, especially with today being a home game.

I accept that Ed Randell has forgotten more about baseball than I’ll ever know, but, as this season marks the 40th anniversary of the Designated Hitter, he’s railing against it.

With the exception of the National League every league that plays baseball (including minor league affiliates of NL teams) use the Designated Hitter. Isn’t it about time for the argument to turn from “we should get rid of the DH” to “the National League should grow up and adopt the DH”

Mind you neither will happen: MLBPA won’t allow the league to replace the salary paid to a DH with one paid to a bench player and owners don’t want to pay another regular player if they don’t have to.

  14. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 9:57 am

BryanHoch RT @therealarieber: Derek Jeter is doing nothing today, according to Cashman. “He’s sore,” Cashman said.

    Good, he should do nothing.

  15. Chip March 24th, 2013 at 9:59 am

    Jack-

Regarding Cano – probably just giving him a few days after playing full games in the WBC.

    Trader -

You don’t trade Mustelier – no reason to. If you don’t take him North you leave him in Scranton for when Juan Rivera plays himself off the team.

  16. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 10:02 am

Cano had a day off after the WBC, then played two games in a row, the second being a road game, and now 2 days off again. I don’t think he needs to play, I just think it is odd.

  17. tomingeorgia March 24th, 2013 at 10:06 am

    jmills,
What did he have to give for that KLH Model 8? If the price is right, I might have one available.

  18. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:11 am

Tom, I’m not sure of a model #. His has an alarm and the abilty to plug a second speaker in for stereo. Including taxes, he paid about 270.

  19. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:14 am

Musty will make the team as long as Jeter opens on the DL.
They not playing him could mean he’s the RH DH.
Rivera could play every day for awhile.
The Muster better hit leftys or be gone when Jete is back.

  20. tomingeorgia March 24th, 2013 at 10:17 am

    jmills,
The Model 8 is mono only, but sounds wonderful. Most people don’t remember turning on the radio and waiting while for the tubes to warm up. There are a couple on Ebay, from $220 to mid-3′s.

  21. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:18 am

Mick, a contact is making me a copy of, ” Little Murders. ” I suggest you watch Betty Blue 37.2 degrees ( great soundtract ) after digesting Mulholland Dr.. Feel good doubleheader stuff.

  22. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:21 am

Sorry, Tom, I’m speaking of a new transistor radio I think made by your company. ( I should have paid attention but I was too busy fighting about what is and what isn’t jazz with the owner )

  23. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 10:23 am

Yeah, Mustelier could make the team if Jeter starts the season on the DL. They will need someone to DH vs lhp, I guess that could be Mustelier, or Neal, or they may let Hafner try, although he hasn’t been good vs lhp.

  24. ac1 March 24th, 2013 at 10:26 am

Rivera is the back up 1b and of so he is a lock. Boesch is lefty and Francisco is hitting. When grandly comes back, boesch may be in aaa unless yankees start well and trade grandy. Still think not bringing musty sends a horrible example to our prospects that no matter how good they are, cash man would rather pull trash off the soon to be retired heap.

  25. tomingeorgia March 24th, 2013 at 10:26 am

    jmills,
Mine was built in 1962, just as transistors began to take over.

  26. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:30 am

Might be missing somebody but thought I had Musty making the team before Jeter went down.

    Maybe not…

Boesch could go down if Francisco keeps hitting rightys.

    Nix is staying.

  27. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:32 am

Tom, I see, you would go well with my two Nordmendes

  28. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:32 am

Musty could fall into the Montero category.
    No position…

A nice soundtrack for your Sunday morning blues :)

  30. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:36 am

Did Yanks ever say Hafner is the LH DH only?

  31. Blutarsky March 24th, 2013 at 10:37 am

Musty could fall into the Montero category.
    No position…

    ————-

How can that be when he can play 1B – 3B – LF – RF ?

Only because Francisco and Rivera are having good ST’s

  32. Blutarsky March 24th, 2013 at 10:38 am

    mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:36 am

Yes, Cashman did more than once.

    A wasted roster spot imo.

  33. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:44 am

Why would Musty be used at 3B or 1B if Youk and Rivera are hitting?
They won’t need him as the RH DH when Jeter is back and Nunez can DH with Jeter.
They will value Boesch over Musty for the last spot.

  34. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:46 am

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Musty involved in a trade before the Opener.

  35. MTU March 24th, 2013 at 10:46 am

Yankee Rule # 1 : Always go with the Veteran when you have a choice.

The combo of Musty at 3rd w. Youk at 1st is better than the combo of Youk at 3rd and Rivera at 1st.

    Why ?

Because Youk is a waaaay better 1st base guy than Rivera and Musty is more than adequate at 3rd.

Added bonus is that Youkilis has a better chance of staying healthy that way.

If you insist on keeping Rivera around see if Francisco would accept an assignment to the Minors.

Rivera can fill-in at 1st, RF, and DH. Other than that he can ride the pine. He’s simply not important past this year.

Ronnier has done everything possible to earn a spot. He should go North. He’s only 28 yrs. old.

    Plenty of primetime left.

    ;)

  36. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:50 am

Hey MTU, go youtube Toronto’s best kept free place. Youtube ” Alan Gardens Toronto “. People have made nice videos. Great setting in the dead of winter.

  37. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:50 am

Yanks thinking will be they can always call Musty up after making Rivera the everyday 1B.
If Youk needs an occasional rest they put Nix at 3rd.
Let Musty get his AB’s in AAA and be ready if needed.

  38. MTU March 24th, 2013 at 10:51 am

    Mills-

I’ll check it out when I get a chance. You really should think about moving somewhere warm though.

    ;)

  39. mick March 24th, 2013 at 10:52 am

Francisco and Rivera are raking …

  40. MTU March 24th, 2013 at 10:53 am

    So is Mustelier.

  41. jmills March 24th, 2013 at 10:57 am

MTU, I was thinking about coming down in the Prelude your way, because I think Vanishing Point can be done one more time :)

  42. Blutarsky March 24th, 2013 at 10:59 am

I for one am sick and tired of the old retread routine, these guys just breakdown with injuries anyway.

How can any young guy in the NYYml system ever think they will get a shot unless they hit .800 and or throw no hitters with regularity.

  43. MTU March 24th, 2013 at 11:01 am

    mills-

    Good flick.

They will value Boesch over Musty for the last spot.

That makes no sense. Boesch already has a spot, Granderson’s. Mustelier is not competing with Boesch. He’s competing with Rivera for 3B/1B and Francisco/Neal for rh/4th of. He could also make the team short term taking Jeter’s spot if he is on the DL, but I don’t know if they would want to put him on the 40 man for that.

I’ve given you classic Kim Carnes who also has a great # on the soundtrack for, ” Vanishing Point “

  46. MTU March 24th, 2013 at 11:11 am

    Got to run.

Sorry for the quick drive by.

Have a good one one All.

    :)

  47. blake March 24th, 2013 at 11:52 am

@LoHudYankees: Cashman says Jeter will almost certainly start the season on the DL. Says that reality is starting to sink in to Jeter himself. #yankees

  48. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 12:03 pm

So on opening day the lineup will be a complete turnover except for Cano. Wow.

  49. austinmac March 24th, 2013 at 12:06 pm

I am getting more concerned over Jeter’s return. Will a month help or will it not? We don’t know if it will or how much.

We start the season with two starters from the beginning of last year. Three in total if you consider Ichiro as a starter last year.

  50. pkyankfan69 March 24th, 2013 at 12:08 pm

So what is the opening day line up vs Lester?

Would we start 3 lefties at the top Gardner-Ichiro-Cano vs Lester or would Nunez possibly be in the 2 slot?

Whatever it ends up being is going to be UGLY.

  51. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 12:10 pm

It’s just Cano really. Gardner missed most of the year and Ichiro was here for roughly 1/3 the season. So complete turnover except for Cano if you go buy who played the most at each position. They are all gone or injured.

  52. 4 NYY March 24th, 2013 at 12:12 pm

Some of us called for Musty most of last year. It’s time to put the guy on the roster and see if he can hit up here or not. Spent enought time in the minors. Some 3rd., some corner OF, some DH’ing, some PH’ing.

  53. jacksquat March 24th, 2013 at 12:12 pm

    go *by*

  54. mick March 24th, 2013 at 12:13 pm

They won’t bring 14 position players north.
Boesch is hurting and we don’t know if he will be DLed.
It’s a numbers game and the more that are Dled , the more chance for Musty.
Again, if it came down to Boesch or Musty they send Musty down…for now.

  55. austinmac March 24th, 2013 at 12:17 pm

    JS,

That is true about the near complete lineup change. Gardner was only their a brief time. In essence, you are right. What is worse is other than maybe Youkilis, all other replacements are significantly lesser players.

Jeter and AROD’s absences could have certainly been anticipated. Teixiera has had his injury issues. Yet, despite knowing two of your main offensive cogs are questionable and others aging, they do nothing but add scrubs.

Good luck with that so-called plan.

  56. GregD March 24th, 2013 at 12:25 pm

didn’t now Musty could play first base….has he played there in ST?

  57. 4 NYY March 24th, 2013 at 12:25 pm

How many homers would today’s lineup hit over a season ?

    Maybe 70 ?
