Joe Girardi just said Phil Hughes will, in fact, open the season on the disabled list. Girardi went a step further to say the Yankees are currently planning to have David Phelps, not Hughes, start on April 6.

Not a given that Phelps will get that start — still a chance Hughes could prove himself ready after one more outing — but the Yankees are currently planning to have Hughes make two more minor league starts before making his season debut on April 11.
