Hughes arrives to familiar results

For four innings, Phil Hughes got big outs when he needed them. When that trend stopped, this game became far too familiar for the Yankees. A four-run fifth inning broke a tie and pushed the Tigers to an 8-4 win at Comerica Park. It was the fourth time in five games that the Yankees allowed at least seven runs. Their injury depleted lineup has yet to score more than four. Rushed back from the disabled list, Hughes kept the game tied through four innings, but three straight singles in the fifth chased him from the game and put matters in the hands of the bullpen, which once again faltered. Boone Logan, David Phelps and Joba Chamberlain let the Tigers pull away, making the Yankees three-run sixth little more than temporary encouragement. The Yankees have now completed one full turn through their rotation, and already four of their five starters have a loss.
