Nova pitched so well with Stewart the first time that of course he should get another start….

  2. blake April 16th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

The sweet Caroline thing is a nice gesture ….but that’s gonna be all kinda of weird

  3. blake April 16th, 2013 at 3:50 pm

@BNightengale: Aaron Hill will be replaced by rookie Didi Gregorius, acquired from the #Indians in the Trevor Bauer trade, for #Dbacks

  4. comnsnse April 16th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

    Why is Cervelli not starting?

What’s with these Girardi moves, Cervelli has defended and hit and having played only 11 games into the season can’t be tired!

What happened to the idea of playing the hot hitter?

  5. luis April 16th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

    Thanks Shame, I am…

    Primo,

Maybe you like some “Hitless Stew”, but at this point I like “Linguini alla Cervelli” better ;)

Nick, that was hilarious ( Hitless Stew ) I already imagine a commercial of “Chef Girardi” selling his “Famous Monstrous and Hairy Spaghetti”

  6. ac1 April 16th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

The Yankees had a day off yesterday. Cervelli should be fresh. You want to rest him, rest him during the stretch of games, not at the beginning of it. Nova will need all the offense he can get, meaning the guy with the team high in average should be in the lineup.

  7. Tackelberry April 16th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

YEAH STEWIE!!!! Let the forum eruption begin!

  8. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Oh, I don’t think the eruption Stew causes are on this board.

  9. kd April 16th, 2013 at 4:00 pm

sweet caroline, at face value, is a super creepy song. but it’s a nice gesture by the yankees.

why on earth did the red sox pick that to be their theme song?

  10. blake April 16th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

What good is starting Stewie when nova pitches….you can’t frame doubles in the gap…..ok that was mean

  11. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

I think Stew in the lineup is at least partially about vanity.

  12. Shame Spencer April 16th, 2013 at 4:07 pm

why on earth did the red sox pick that to be their theme song?

    ——————–

I think it was the other way around.. the song picked them!

(Remember when the Mets got Rick Roll’d??????? *Sigh* Good stuff.)

  13. Shame Spencer April 16th, 2013 at 4:08 pm

Marc Craig’s tweets covering the snow removal in Colorado are amazing.

  14. jacksquat April 16th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

    Stewart!

  15. Shame Spencer April 16th, 2013 at 4:10 pm

Who has Stewie been catching regularly?

Without comparing their ML readiness, mechanics, stuff, or future projections, the buzz that Harvey is now generating reminds me of the buzz that surrounded Joba when he first joined the rotation, and thinking about it makes me both sad and angry.

    —————–

It makes me very angry about what could have been

  17. yeayo April 16th, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Of course Girardi rests one of our best offensive players.

  18. jacksquat April 16th, 2013 at 4:16 pm

Cervelli is hitting too much, he needs two days off to cool him off. #Girardi’d

  19. Against All Odds April 16th, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Ys Guy April 16th, 2013 at 3:09 pm
this board spends half its time yammering about one guy who just never lived up to the hype either as a starter or a reliever and another guy who got traded and now spends half his time on the bench.

    ————————

It gets brought up because they haven’t developed players properly. If A number of their pitchers panned out Joba would be talked about not reaching his ceiling but it would be he was one of the few that didn’t make it instead of him being one of many that didn’t.

  20. Nick in SF April 16th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

luis, “Hitless Stew” was authored by astrocity (?), not me. The rest is mine.

Girardi can read the tweeting on the wall; Cervelli’s mind might be elsewhere right now.

(No, I’m not really being serious. But Stewart is going to catch games as long as he’s there.)

  21. Patrick April 16th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Girardi said the catcher position would be half and half for at least the first month of the season. If Cervelli is still outplaying Stewart by May we will probably see him take over as the starter. Stewart will still get a game or two a week though.

  22. Tackelberry April 16th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Girardi Said “I wanna keep everyone involved, including Stewie. I spoke to Cervy and he’s fine with it. I’ll get Boeschy in one of these game too”

  23. Niblick April 16th, 2013 at 4:27 pm

    1. Stewie stinks and should not be on the team.

    2. Real red sawx fans don’t want to ever hear that stupid song played at Fenway.

  24. luis April 16th, 2013 at 4:30 pm

    Nick,

Anyway, the whole post was hilarious “Chef Girardi” was as good as “Hitless Stew”

  25. Bronx Jeers April 16th, 2013 at 4:30 pm

I would need post-apocalyptic conditions in order to sing Sweet Caroline. And its a poser song anyway. It would be like the Fenway faithful singing YMCA or Cotton Eye Joe.

Dirty Water is a much better song.

  26. comnsnse April 16th, 2013 at 4:33 pm

    Blake @4:01 hilarious!

Why must we have all these “cutesy” names that the idiots on hockey broadcasts use? Stewie, Boeschy, does Joe call himself Joey?

I’m getting concerned about all this fraternization and clubhouse frivolity!

  27. Nick in SF April 16th, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Roadrunner by the Modern Lovers is the best Massachusetts song if all time, says me.

  28. blake April 16th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

@Joelsherman1: Teixeira simulating swings and then running the bases hard. Still not hitting for real yet #Yankees

    So he’s back to normal?

  29. Bronx Jeers April 16th, 2013 at 4:37 pm

    UMass by the Pixies.

  30. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 4:37 pm

    Boeschy isn’t “cutesy” is grotesque.

I was going to ask if he had an uppercut in his simulated swing

  33. Nick in SF April 16th, 2013 at 4:40 pm

I do like UMass, but Roadrunner is up with the classic rock songs of all time, I don’t think UMass makes my Top 20 Pixies Song list.

  34. blake April 16th, 2013 at 4:41 pm

@Joelsherman1: Sense biggest worry with Teixeira is how right wrist will react when batting lefty (lower hand on bat). #Yankees

  35. Russell Munson April 16th, 2013 at 4:45 pm

Great. So the side he stinks from is also the side with the biggest worry?

  36. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 4:47 pm

“@Joelsherman1: Sense biggest worry with Teixeira is how right wrist will react when batting lefty (lower hand on bat). #Yankees”

Then he shouldn’t even try this season.

Hi All-Just wanted to mention I will be visiting NYC next week for 7 days.
Planning to see at least 1 Yankee game vs either Toronto or Houston.
If you have any advice/tips where to buy Tickets in person other than the Stadium in Manhattan, please share.
Getting excited about the trip and my 1st visit to the new Yankee Stadium.

    kd –

“Sweet Caroline” is popular at sporting events. Boston’s Fenway Park has played the song since at least 1997, and it has been played at every game in the middle of the eighth inning since 2002 by the influence of Amy Tobey, a production agent responsible for the audio played over the park’s loudspeakers. “She had noticed ‘Sweet Caroline’ was used at other sporting events, and she decided to send the sweetness over the Fenway speakers.”[7] On opening night of the 2010 season at Fenway Park, the song was performed (albeit abridged) by Diamond himself. It is also played at sporting events at the University of Pittsburgh[8] and Iowa State University.[9] The song is also played during television timeouts of Davidson College men’s basketball games and gained national attention during the school’s 2008 run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.[10] Penn State will no longer be playing the song at its football games. The Altoona Mirror reports this may be related to the Jerry Sandusky scandal.[11][12]

The University of South Carolina Marching Band is known to play Sweet Caroline at football, basketball, and volleyball games, as well as at pep rallies and other events which the band attends.

Sweet Caroline was played over the PA at nearly every home game of the University of Arizona baseball team’s national championship season in 2012.

On April 16 2013, the day after the Boston Marathon bombing, the New York Yankees announced they would play the song during their home game, preceded by a moment of silence, as a tribute to the victims.

    **********

I too am creeped out at hearing the song at sporting events (well when we hear it played at fenway, the only sporting event I’ve heard it at.) In addition, I am totally befuddled as to why that particular song would be played at ANY sporting event.

That said, what a classy gesture on the part of the Yanks. I would love to know who comes up with these things because it’s not the first time the Yankees have come up with tributes and such that absolutely speak to the situation in a very poignant way. I know hearing it tonight at the Ys game will probably cause me some emotion because I know I felt a catch in my throat when I heard about it on WEEI.

  42. Bronx Jeers April 16th, 2013 at 4:59 pm

I guess I gravitate towards the harder stuff although I’m not exactly a headbanger.

More like an aggressive nodder.

  43. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 16th, 2013 at 5:00 pm

That said, I would not be one singing it, either at home or at the Stadium. I could never carry it that far!

@jaysonst: At what point are #Yankees allowed to get excited about Vernon Wells (.324/.405/.649)? “Best I’ve seen him swing bat in 3 yrs,” scout said
    —————————

The fact that he has now had more than 100 ABs counting ST and regular season at least means this is not a tiny sample size fluke (still a small sample size, but not like hitting .333 because you are 4 for 12). Remember how hot Ibanez was at the start of last season – other than his insane burst in the playoffs he looked baked for most of the rest of the season.

  47. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 16th, 2013 at 5:04 pm

Paco – Vernon is the man. I’m hoping it remains a strong Wellsian season!

    :)

  48. Ys Guy April 16th, 2013 at 5:09 pm

wells is 34, ibanez was 40.

  49. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 5:10 pm

ST stats are basically meaningless because a player coudl be facing pitchers who will never sniff the ML .

    Fangraphs has this:

…at what point do statistics become reliable? For the answers, see below:

    Offense Statistics:

    50 PA: Swing%
    100 PA: Contact Rate
150 PA: Strikeout Rate, Line Drive Rate, Pitches/PA
200 PA: Walk Rate, Ground Ball Rate, GB/FB
    250 PA: Fly Ball Rate
300 PA: Home Run Rate, HR/FB
500 PA: OBP, SLG, OPS, 1B Rate, Popup Rate
    550 PA: ISO

    http://www.fangraphs.com/libra.....mple-size/

So basically a season’s worth of data.

  50. Bronx Jeers April 16th, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Wait they’re really going to play Neil Diamond? I thought it was a lohud joke.

    What a horrendous tribute.

  51. blake April 16th, 2013 at 5:13 pm

Wells does have a small SS but you can see better bat speed and could from the start independent of that…..he’s not going to OBP .400 all year but I think he could potentially be better than we thought

  52. Rich in NJ April 16th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

I personally think the tribute is a great idea. They sang NY, NY, and at YS they will sing their song.

  53. Doreen April 16th, 2013 at 5:17 pm

    Shame -

I miss Marc Carig covering the Yankees.

  54. dayglo April 16th, 2013 at 5:37 pm

This either shows that Joe trusts Stew with a young struggling pitcher (Nova) more than Cervelli, or really likes the Cerv/CC combination tomorrow.

The interesting thing will be if Stew catches Thursday’s game to pair him with another struggling pitcher. Then it would be Cerv=CC, Andy, kuroda and Stew=Nova,Hughes

In any event, if any of the games are close, Stew will be pinch hit for and Cerv will get into the game.

This weighting applies to both the bracelet, and the chain extender. The extenders ability to adjust the length is critical. There are many different sizes and styles of boots.
